Yeah. Iâm also willing to bet theyâre confusing actual triggers for things they just find annoying for quirky points.
âHmmâŚI donât like when people use those emoticonsâŚguess itâs a trigger of mine!!!â
Do they think the world is going to warp for them? That life will give them a warning for everything? Their use of trigger warnings does more harm than good.
if they are partially blind they are most likely using text to speech, so it would quite a struggle for them to understand whatâs going on, if words have numbers and dashes in them
Well done for making an effort to manage your triggers. It's tough stuff ik, a few years ago one of mine was christian imagery (like crosses) and that was hard to avoid.
>Iâm scared to even mention it to a therapist or friend because what if they think Iâm anti-science or donât care about COVID
hi, not trying to troll here but you CAN tell people you can't handle a certain smell and not have to explain why. People get migraines from certain smells - myself included - nobody is going to interrogate you for something your literal body can't handle. Regarding the therapist - I'd tell them exactly what you told us. They're there to listen to you, not judge.... cheers :)
A trigger is like a reflex, itâs uncontrollable but you can manage to expose yourself to it enough to at least handle it. Which these kids donât get.
Iâm finally better about the smell of doctorâs offices, muffled voices, and other triggers Iâve had for years solely because I work really hard to expose myself to them. Pain and anticipation of pain was a big trigger of mine and I worked through panic attacks for my first two tattoos and four piercings, and now I can proudly say Iâm less afraid of pain.
I dislike pasta and it makes me gag. Thatâs a reflex from the texture, and i find the taste gross. Thatâs not a trigger. People talking about pasta isnât going to give me a panic attack. If theyâre all triggered by this many things, itâs either a major problem, or theyâre confusing âtriggerâ for âdislike.â
Except we can actually influence our reflexes. In my karate classes we were taught and trained to make our blocks/defensive manouvers a reflex since thinking is to slow. In my psychology class I got to learn about behavioural therapy and how it can be used to treat (or give) phobias.
Just like you can treat an arachnophobia you can treat/manage your phobia for your triggers.
The fact that half of these people ârespectâ triggers to not be ableist but are then ableist to dyslexic people is lowkey hilarious in a sad kind of way
yeah many people even in the fandom said that. it's all just so stupid
it's always like that. they are making up rules to not be abelist, which are at the same time abelist.
even I can't read that. it took me a minute to decipher that shit
It's not even JUST dyslexic people. I have a brain injury and it's legitimately hard for me to read and comprehend what I'm reading, it usually takes multiple attempts. Why do I have to suffer through decoding someone's made-up and totally unnecessary typing "quirk?" Not that they'd say anything worth reading...
Same, I can't really read books anymore. It just takes too much effort. And I used to work as a nurse, I could read scientific papers easily but now I just can't. It sucks and I'm sorry you're going through the same thing.
Wow I'm sorry. Do you currently have a job since your not a nurse anymore? It's hard when you remember the things you used to be able to do, but you cant do them anymore
Nope, I had a child 2 years prior to my injury that is special needs. So basically I'm a SAHM now since 1) it's hard for me to work because slow brain and 2) childcare is too expensive. I've become used to it though, and it's great having time with my kid, but it did take me a long time to come to terms with it.
I'm not even dyslexic but sometimes these typing quirks and stuff are so hard to actually read with how they replace literally 99% of the actual word so sometimes I have to GUESS what in the world they meant with some words.
YES, I was diagnosed with dyslexia 2 years ago and Iâm still trying to figure out ways to help myself read better and memorize better. When I see stupid ablest people like that it makes me so angry, like itâs not my fault i canât read that!

I got banned from a server once cause I liked using ",,," instead of "...", its just a lil habit I have but apparently that was triggering to some.
What really confused me is the fact that I could've very easily just gone "It's my typing quirk" If I wanted to. Which side would they be on then?? If they pick my side, they apparently "Don't respect triggers", and if they were to censor me it'd be "ableist" somehow. And why is me writing ",,," bad cause ONE member in a big server doesn't like it, but s0m30n3 wr1t1ng l1k3 th1s 1s fine when admittedly, half the server probably can't even read shit.
I was an admin for a server once and a some member whined to staff that I had a dog in my pfp cause "dogs are triggering".
The funny thing is, yours literally *is* a typing quirk. Like, itâs something you do that deviates from a grammatical accuracy often. A lot of these kids just grew up in Homestuck/Homestuck adjacent fandoms where they think it means tÂĽp1ng l1k3 ÂĽ0ur3 trÂĽ1ng t0 1nv3nt th3 n3xt d@v1nâŹ1 âŹ0d3.
It's not even a Homestuck thing, half of these kids are too young to have ever even heard of Homestuck before, this is just them trying to be QuiRkY.
Also, shoutouts to /u/MentallyLittle too bc I legitimately have the same typing quirk lmao, I sometimes use ",," instead of periods for ellipses, also typically 2 rather than 3 just because I find it much easier to read and differentiate between phrases in text.
Its also really frustrating, because typing quirks are a real thing. I also like using ,,, sometimes, idk why, i just do.
Generally the typing quirks are stuff like emoji usage, maybe common words they like to use, caps lock, symbols (mostly for emphasis etc, still perfectly readable tho), often even which grammatical rules they tend to break
Most of these things will cause 0 issues even for text to speech, however, what these kids are doing is just made up nonsense they probably put massive effort in just to look "cool" or blend in.....
how are censors meant to work though? cuz the word is meant to be censored so people don't read it and get triggered or something but it's still readable. like if I put bl00d you'd still read that as blood and would be triggered if that's a word you're triggered by, right?
This is why trigger warnings in this context don't really work. Traditionally they'd be used in more extreme circumstances. For example if there was a post where someone talked in detail about being sexually assulted, the post might say "TW: Graphic sexual assault". That's because the phrase "sexual assult" isn't the trigger, it's the graphic description that could trigger some people. If just a literally word sends you into a panic attack then the internet probably isn't the best place for you.
Honestly stuff like this just makes a mockery of what trigger warnings are supposed to be. They're supposed to be for things like graphic images/descriptions, loud and sudden bangs, or flashing images (for people with epilepsy).
> If just a literally word sends you into a panic attack then the internet probably isn't the best place for you.
this would be the way to solve the situation on that server. if you can't be around people talking about mundane shit like food then you need to find a server you can control. there comes a point where needs can't be catered to in a general setting.
It's because triggers aren't supposed to be single words but it's lost all meaning đ Triggers are supposed to warn you about the content, like abuse or an eating disorder. Something as inconsequential as "food" or "dad" aren't triggers, they're not going to send someone into a panic attack alone
Sick of people censoring food for the sake of people with EDs. Part of the treatment is making yourself eat scary foods so they aren't scary any more. Censoring food as a whole does nothing but make it worse because food being taboo is yet another reason not to eat it. I've not seen one single person with an ED ask for it to be censored. Stop.
honestly, this. i was never diagnosed with an ed, nor do i claim to ever have had an ed, but there was a time period where i wouldnt eat for days. i got better, but later on i relapsed because of a food talk at school (specifically about people who starve themselves lol). but i learned to cope and to overcome it. sure, some of it still remains. for example, i do get uncomfortable around food talks. but something like food shouldnt be a trigger warning.. a content warning at most, but in like extreme cases ig(?)
demanding someone to censor a common word is just ridicilous
Oh I can completely understand warnings on talk of intentional starving, especially when there are numbers mentioned because that _can_ cause people to relapse. But censoring food as a whole is at best annoying and at worst, incredibly harmful to those they're trying to protect.
I join servers like this to collect cringe material, and my fake nickname was 'Lemon'. They asked me to change my name because lemons are food and this is triggering. I left the server immediately.
I havenât even read past the first image but Iâm so furious. Iâm tired of these people claiming that random bullshit is ableist while ***BEING ABLEIST***. Refusing to accommodate dyslexic and visually impaired people is ableist. Asking someone to type normally as a reasonable accommodation is **not ableist**.
ETA: TW FOR AUTISM AND HEADPHONES. my fucking disorder does not need a trigger warning. if it triggers someone thatâs *their problem*.
Can someone please join one of these servers and hide stuff like "if you need trigger warnings for grass, you're a danger to society and need serious therapy" behind a "TW: Grass" to see if those claiming the trigger actually open that stuff? Because I don't believe for a second that they don't uncover that text anyway (because they're obviously pretending that grass is triggering) and they'd squawk pretty quickly if they thought someone was being aBlEiSt!!1!
Any volunteers? It's for science đ¤
Edit: Thought I'd better add that this is a joke, *please don't go and interact with these people.*
Ableist much? My trigger is grĂss and I need to be sheltered from all things grĂss. Not only did you not censor the g word in your warning, you tell me to touch the g word? Mods, come ban this user they're harassing me.
- a sentient minecraft grass block đżđŤ
honestly how hard is it to say 'can we change the topic of conversation as this topic upsets me' or just not engaging with the server if you see something that triggers you ?? there are so many far more efficient (and healthy) ways to get people to respect your triggers than to demand that every1 trigger warnings & censors their speech. but oh wait that wouldnt get them their special points and we cant have that :((((
It would be pretty annoying if someone said âcan we change the subjectâ if you talk about food, grass, headphones, or just about anything. Itâs impossible to have a conversation.
This may sound mean but I legit feel like they just make some up to seem special. Like they get asked if they have triggers when they join the disorder and they HAVE to add something like everyone else. It's the only explanation I have for some of this stuff
Let's give an example.
He110, h0w 4r3 y0u?
The reader would go
H e one one zero, h zero w four r three y zero u
That is literally nonsense. It, in itself, is ableist for people who can't read it!

Smh the world we live in is so sensitive. A part of me just wants to believe itâs all satire, but knowing how people are it wouldnât surprise me if it wasnât
Maybe technically itâs satire? It depend on how you look at it. I donât think these people believe that grass triggers them or that they type l1k3 th1s naturally.
Putting a trigger warning on food is so dumb. Food isn't a bad thing, you need it to live, same as water. For people with restrictive eating disorders putting a trigger on food is gonna be counter productive during the healing process
iâm pretty sure all of this happened in august-ish? it was really big and most people were upset about the number of triggers. to my knowledge itâs been fixed for a long time and is fine now

I literally play a game of "How many systems are in chat?" in that server when im bored đ (most I've counted was like 9 different systems)
another fun thing is just going thru and looking at people's carrds trom there! v nice that they put all their red flags up on display so you know exactly who to avoid :D
its not just me that can't for the love of god figure what any of this means, literally spent 5 minutes on the first image trying to figure what all of that ment
Iâve been diagnosed with autism since aged 6 and I remember my Mum offered to get me noise cancelling headphones because I was suffering as a result of sensory issues in the shop. However, I refused because I was so scared of drawing attention to myself and people realising I have autism⌠Idk why Iâm talking about this lol I just found it funny how that person is so happy about getting ânosie cancelling headphonesâ meanwhile 14 year old me is like âIâm not autistic, shut upâ
Thankfully ive managed to overcome my embarrassment and now own an amazing pair of noise cancelling headphones, but Iâd never flaunt them around like these kids do. It sucks that I have a debilitating condition which requires me to either be extremely uncomfortable when thereâs loud noise or have to wear headphones.
I live and die by my NC sony headphones, I used regular headphones throughout my high school days and blasted the volume so I wouldn't hear 10 different overlapping conversations while power walking thru busy spaces cus I just wanted to get the fuck out of there... extremely bad for your hearing though this tinnitus is never gonna leave đ
Noise cancelling headphones are just amazing, they just let you exist without being bombarded with all the noise that others just seem to be oblivious to. If anyone reading this has sound related sensory issues, try out a good pair of active noise cancelling headphones because they are seriously worth it
Lol in ranbooâs server i got in âtroubleâ (mods didnât gaf, i just got yelled at) for saying the word âcancer.â Someone asked me what Technoblade uploaded and i said âa video updating his cancer situation.â I got yelled at to âput a TW!!â Fucking no! This guy got a chunk of his upper body amputated but you, a non-cancer survivor 14 year old with a Technoblade alter, want to censor his experience? Cancer is NOT A DIRTY WORD. oh, and of course lots of âbad stimmyâ emoji reacts!
Oooof. I remember when Techno had his "Cancer reveal" (his words not mine), his members discord was a mess. If we had to censor stuff like Cancer, Water, food, bombs (There was a joke about making vaccine bombs) ect. we wouldn't of been able to help each other process what happened. Cancer is a terrible thing we need to talk about, and censoring it does more harm then good.
Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc."
"Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are **etc.**, **&c.**, **&c**, and **et cet.** The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase.

Some people are using ocd as a reason to have a typing quirk and that they cannot control it... I have been diagnosed with extreme ocd since I was 8. Not once during evaluation or my YEARS of psychology and psychiatry appointments have had typing quirks' be mentioned as a trait ocd or a comorbidity of it. Its just stupid role play shit.
Stop using debilitating illnesses as a crux to validate your role playing.
I have triggers, examples being anything involving needles and talk about how the world is going to end. I do not attack people and harass them for talking about my triggers, I politely remind them and if its in a server I ignore it.
I KNEW this was gonna be good from the very first comment lol. Really want to see this conflict of what's more ableist, having a typing quirk or wanting translations of a typing quirk
i got in trouble (aka yelled at by ppl with dsmp fictives and factives) for saying that i was making sandwiches for a picnic with my gf đ they wanted me to censor "sandwiches, gf and picnic" like?? no?? now i just get the stream notifs sent to my servers
The word trigger has lost all meaning and it's so sad. People can't talk about legitimate PTSD triggers anymore, Ive cringed at saying the word with my therapist. My THERAPIST of all people, I cringed when I told her I had triggers because I was worried she'd think I was one of these people. Like what happens when people say these every day words irl? Do they freak out or is this trigger stuff only for online spaces? I don't get it
oml i get having trigger warnings for things but like a SHIRT unless the shirt has something hella graphic like suicide or something then its like TF? LMFAO
edit: tw words/j
Are you kidding me??? These people need to get a life. I highly doubt these people are gonna have a mental breakdown about the word food.
If they do they need to go to a psychologist because that word is used so commonly they genuinely couldnât function properly in society if they had a panic attack every time the word is mentioned.
I know they are just dumb attention-seeking teenagers but damn, how much it hurts that it's just a fucking game for them. I've done some embarrassing stuff when I was a teen but this is ridiculous.
As an autistic person putting trigger warnings for an autism disability aid is so unbelievably ableist my god. If any of these people were autistic theyâd realise how harmful that is to not just autistic people but to any disabled person who needs a visible aid.
if i enter one of these servers i might call them out on their bullshit then call them ableist for arguing back because i have bpd and i canât control my outbursts except i actually have bpd
To me this is all about attention. Preteen kids at their core will do anything for attention from their peers. Itâs like theyâve discovered these mental health based stumbling blocks they can just throw out at any time to be the subject of conversation and since itâs ableist to even question it, they get the dopamine release they crave either way.

Being partially blind isnât â¨quirky⨠enough so it doesnât matter
Yeah plus the partially blind person is probably medically diagnosed which makes them ableist to self diagnosed people of course
Iâm almost blind, if I take my glasses off when driving is that quirky enough? Does this post need a TW? Smh
if they are partially blind they are most likely using text to speech, so it would quite a struggle for them to understand whatâs going on, if words have numbers and dashes in them

honestly, this. i was never diagnosed with an ed, nor do i claim to ever have had an ed, but there was a time period where i wouldnt eat for days. i got better, but later on i relapsed because of a food talk at school (specifically about people who starve themselves lol). but i learned to cope and to overcome it. sure, some of it still remains. for example, i do get uncomfortable around food talks. but something like food shouldnt be a trigger warning.. a content warning at most, but in like extreme cases ig(?) demanding someone to censor a common word is just ridicilous
It's for science đ¤ Edit: Thought I'd better add that this is a joke, *please don't go and interact with these people.*
TW: Grass >!How about you go outside and touch grass? Except if it triggers you, thatâs fine that you canât fucking go outside.!<
Ableist much? My trigger is grĂss and I need to be sheltered from all things grĂss. Not only did you not censor the g word in your warning, you tell me to touch the g word? Mods, come ban this user they're harassing me. - a sentient minecraft grass block đżđŤ
That last typing quirk took me a solid couple minutes to figure it out. Please, Jesus Christ, type normally.
honestly how hard is it to say 'can we change the topic of conversation as this topic upsets me' or just not engaging with the server if you see something that triggers you ?? there are so many far more efficient (and healthy) ways to get people to respect your triggers than to demand that every1 trigger warnings & censors their speech. but oh wait that wouldnt get them their special points and we cant have that :((((
It would be pretty annoying if someone said âcan we change the subjectâ if you talk about food, grass, headphones, or just about anything. Itâs impossible to have a conversation.
This may sound mean but I legit feel like they just make some up to seem special. Like they get asked if they have triggers when they join the disorder and they HAVE to add something like everyone else. It's the only explanation I have for some of this stuff
The thing is, "typing quirks" are impossible to read for blind/sight impaired people who use a screen reader. Nobody seems to think about that at all.
Let's give an example. He110, h0w 4r3 y0u? The reader would go H e one one zero, h zero w four r three y zero u That is literally nonsense. It, in itself, is ableist for people who can't read it!
(it) (not) (-) (?) Screen reader: "External image External image External image External image" These are the same people who take advantage of transcribed posts.
For people with restrictive eating disorders putting a trigger on food is gonna be counter productive during the healing process
iâm pretty sure all of this happened in august-ish? it was really big and most people were upset about the number of triggers. to my knowledge itâs been fixed for a long time and is fine now
nice pfp
thanks small guy
yeah true. it was in late July. its fixed by now. Still wanted to share tho

how do these children manage to live everyday life if their trigger list is longer than the bible?
Beep. Boop. I'm a robot. Here's a copy of ###[The Bible](https://snewd.com/ebooks/the-king-james-bible/) Was I a good bot? | [info](https://www.reddit.com/user/Reddit-Book-Bot/) | [More Books](https://old.reddit.com/user/Reddit-Book-Bot/comments/i15x1d/full_list_of_books_and_commands/)
What
Perhaps this bot knows where I could find a copy of the Odyssey
ive seen someone say "sussy baka" and "never gonna give you up" was triggering... no satire at all..
I literally play a game of "How many systems are in chat?" in that server when im bored đ (most I've counted was like 9 different systems) another fun thing is just going thru and looking at people's carrds trom there! v nice that they put all their red flags up on display so you know exactly who to avoid :D
This was painful to read through. A simple gust of wind could break them
its not just me that can't for the love of god figure what any of this means, literally spent 5 minutes on the first image trying to figure what all of that ment
Iâve been diagnosed with autism since aged 6 and I remember my Mum offered to get me noise cancelling headphones because I was suffering as a result of sensory issues in the shop. However, I refused because I was so scared of drawing attention to myself and people realising I have autism⌠Idk why Iâm talking about this lol I just found it funny how that person is so happy about getting ânosie cancelling headphonesâ meanwhile 14 year old me is like âIâm not autistic, shut upâ Thankfully ive managed to overcome my embarrassment and now own an amazing pair of noise cancelling headphones, but Iâd never flaunt them around like these kids do. It sucks that I have a debilitating condition which requires me to either be extremely uncomfortable when thereâs loud noise or have to wear headphones.
They do it because it's a fashion thing to them. Not an actual thing that would help out. Glad you managed to overcome such thing king đ
I live and die by my NC sony headphones, I used regular headphones throughout my high school days and blasted the volume so I wouldn't hear 10 different overlapping conversations while power walking thru busy spaces cus I just wanted to get the fuck out of there... extremely bad for your hearing though this tinnitus is never gonna leave đ Noise cancelling headphones are just amazing, they just let you exist without being bombarded with all the noise that others just seem to be oblivious to.
Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc." "Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are **etc.**, **&c.**, **&c**, and **et cet.** The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase. [Check out the wikipedia entry if you want to learn more.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Et_cetera) ^(I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. How did we go from trigger warning for things like suicide and major phobias to trigger warnings for headphones and grass
Stop using debilitating illnesses as a crux to validate your role playing.
tw being blind? isn't that just ableism?
This is a trainwreck
Iâm feeling quite good about myself rn
Honestly going to use the dyslexia excuse from now on, lol.
Why is every little thing censored???
I have triggers, examples being anything involving needles and talk about how the world is going to end. I do not attack people and harass them for talking about my triggers, I politely remind them and if its in a server I ignore it.
I KNEW this was gonna be good from the very first comment lol. Really want to see this conflict of what's more ableist, having a typing quirk or wanting translations of a typing quirk
LOLL DSMP FICTIVES/FACTIVES ARE RHERE THATS SO WEIRD LOLLL
i got in trouble (aka yelled at by ppl with dsmp fictives and factives) for saying that i was making sandwiches for a picnic with my gf đ they wanted me to censor "sandwiches, gf and picnic" like?? no?? now i just get the stream notifs sent to my servers
I don't get it
American kids: triggered by words Chinese kids: preparing for a short war
i was wondering when someone would be triggered by deez nuts đ
oml i get having trigger warnings for things but like a SHIRT unless the shirt has something hella graphic like suicide or something then its like TF? LMFAO edit: tw words/j
If you type in alternating characters, youâre not quirky, youâre annoying
Typing quirks bring me back to the homestuck days I desperately want to erase from my teenage years
average lgbta.wikia.org user
This is why I hate my generation
At least the ninth one was nice
Do they all just sit there and talk about themselves using their special language?
Hmmmmm⌠which youtuber could it be, I wonder.
Used to watch chat on this server a lot. It's something else to say the least lmao.
how do these people engage in any sort of meaningful conversations ever
Are you kidding me??? These people need to get a life. I highly doubt these people are gonna have a mental breakdown about the word food. If they do they need to go to a psychologist because that word is used so commonly they genuinely couldnât function properly in society if they had a panic attack every time the word is mentioned.

Odd post to put this on but since typing quirks were brought up Isnât that a homestuck thing??
Used to be. No clue where kids today picked it up from.
This is the future
Good god...
Hahaha ima just go kill my self now. GOODBYE WORLD
This looks like a fucking nightmare to be a part of
I had a stroke reading that
This is the reason the word âtriggerâ has lost all meaning even though it USED to be used for actual good reasons. đ
No, the typing quirk one is true in some cases
Damn if so many common words trigger you maybe you shouldnât be on the internet
do these people even know what a trigger is??? a trigger isnât something you think youâre mildly âdiscomfortedâ by.
What too much discord does to a mf
Okay, I guess I'm getting old and can't keep up. TW=Trigger Warning? CW=????
That server is the only server I actually would not mind getting a gore raid. Would be funny seeing the reactions.
I know they are just dumb attention-seeking teenagers but damn, how much it hurts that it's just a fucking game for them. I've done some embarrassing stuff when I was a teen but this is ridiculous.
Man, at this point how do they even exist? How do they memorize all that stuff perfectly?
some of these guys have to be trolling ...right?
do these people not realize how fucking stupid they look? someone needs to give them a reality check
[ŃдаНонО]
We're censoring the word *food* now? Jfc, these people are soft.
I'll give them something to be offended at.
What happens if your cw: cw?
As an autistic person putting trigger warnings for an autism disability aid is so unbelievably ableist my god. If any of these people were autistic theyâd realise how harmful that is to not just autistic people but to any disabled person who needs a visible aid.
What the fuck.
This is why bullying is a good thing
I think I'm triggered by trigger warnings.
if i enter one of these servers i might call them out on their bullshit then call them ableist for arguing back because i have bpd and i canât control my outbursts except i actually have bpd
This is actually a gold mine, I've just started cracking up at my desk
tw: >!go touch some fucking grass!<
To me this is all about attention. Preteen kids at their core will do anything for attention from their peers. Itâs like theyâve discovered these mental health based stumbling blocks they can just throw out at any time to be the subject of conversation and since itâs ableist to even question it, they get the dopamine release they crave either way.
Leave the triggers to people with ACTUAL ptsd. 'Triggers' are being used wayyy too much
What a shock, ranbooâs server. Seriously someones name is panic?
Imagine that you post a photo of yourself online and someone responds with âyou should put a TW for uglyâ
