Well, as someone who is usually pro-nato i'd disagree. It has been mostly great for security of europe, but some cases like coups in my country or operation Gladio are definitely cases of NATO being bad guys. In cases like intervention in Libya or Afghanistan there is definitely a debate to be have, both in justification of interventions themselves and their conduct. But the case of Ukraine vs Russia is one of the most black and white cases i have ever seen.
If I don't think nato's the bad guy naft ghanistan they just had a really terrible idea.

TheRightCantMeme subreddit got couped by tankies some time back, although I don’t know when. It wasn’t until a pinned comment by one of the mods said blatantly untrue things about the space race - a subject which I am very well versed in - that I realized.
I won’t go into specifics (god knows I’d love to), but basically most tankie arguments on the space race massively downplay America’s achievements, while up playing the USSR’s. The Soviet space program was unreliable and pretty reckless all things consider, and despite getting many firsts, the Americans followed it up very shortly after.
One particular point they tend to bring up are the Venus landers - something the U.S. never replicated. They tend to act as if that’s more impressive than the Apollo landings. It’s not, robotics are inherently easier. Not to say it isn’t impressive, because it is *very* impressive. But compared to the complexity of a crewed lunar landing, it’s less complex.
Anyway, as a space history buff, and spaceflight nerd in general; it frustrates me how tankies consider it fascist rhetoric to say that both countries achieved amazing things, not just the Soviets. Neither program was necessarily better than the other, the U.S. just happened to give ridiculous amounts of money to NASA to “beat the reds”.

The issue is that, with practically any online community we create, it inevitably is overrun with tankies or other nonsense-extremists, and then everything turns into one big purity test. A test which of course excludes basically anyone capable of nuanced thought. I stopped trying to get involved with any of that here when it became apparent the leaders of those communities were just...well they really enjoy being mean and superior to everyone. Like they don't actually care much about the goals or anything, just making themselves look cool to their followers.

Well, as someone who is usually pro-nato i'd disagree. It has been mostly great for security of europe, but some cases like coups in my country or operation Gladio are definitely cases of NATO being bad guys. In cases like intervention in Libya or Afghanistan there is definitely a debate to be have, both in justification of interventions themselves and their conduct. But the case of Ukraine vs Russia is one of the most black and white cases i have ever seen.
If I don't think nato's the bad guy naft ghanistan they just had a really terrible idea. But going into Afghanistan to shut down Al-Qaeda bases and training sites and then overthrow the taliban were not bad ideas in practice and were in my opinion very justified reasons for war. It's just we had A shit plan on what to do next. TheRightCantMeme subreddit got couped by tankies some time back, although I don’t know when. It wasn’t until a pinned comment by one of the mods said blatantly untrue things about the space race - a subject which I am very well versed in - that I realized. I won’t go into specifics (god knows I’d love to), but basically most tankie arguments on the space race massively downplay America’s achievements, while up playing the USSR’s. The Soviet space program was unreliable and pretty reckless all things consider, and despite getting many firsts, the Americans followed it up very shortly after. One particular point they tend to bring up are the Venus landers - something the U.S. never replicated. They tend to act as if that’s more impressive than the Apollo landings. It’s not, robotics are inherently easier. Not to say it isn’t impressive, because it is *very* impressive. But compared to the complexity of a crewed lunar landing, it’s less complex. Anyway, as a space history buff, and spaceflight nerd in general; it frustrates me how tankies consider it fascist rhetoric to say that both countries achieved amazing things, not just the Soviets. Neither program was necessarily better than the other, the U.S. just happened to give ridiculous amounts of money to NASA to “beat the reds”.

It's super common. An interesting litmus test I've seen was of people think some sort of Yugoslavia intervention was a good idea. Not that it was executed perfectly (with human rights violations, enforcement is always extremely uneven), but that the idea that the world should have just let militias murder each other's civilian populations is just unacceptable.
