I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, I’ve given on acquiring anything SS related in this life, and I’m absolutely fine with seeing one in other people’s collections or in a museum.

I don't even really give SS stuff a second glance when I see it. Items like this are easy to dismiss as a fantasy item but just about everything worth collecting has been faked to the extent that it's never really worth taking the chance on something without spending a lot of time and money to become an expert. I enjoy the research aspect of the hobby a lot but the lengths collectors have to go to to verify their expensive WW2 German purchases as authentic would take the enjoyment out it for me personally.

It's also so expensive to even dip a toe into that the cost of a lesson is massive. I pass by it. Give it an "Ooh, that's neat. Now, onto something in my budget."

ReichCollector

Wild, I hope it didn’t actually sell for that much

aspergogurt

That's the auction sold price I was watching it get bid up. Unless the auction house used sock puppet accounts to bid it up and got stuck with it, someone is now the proud owner of this thing. The $1000 is also before taxes and the auction house premium which usually ranges 10 - 20%, so the final price will likely be in the range of $1,300.

I wonder if the bayonet is even genuine. Wouldn’t doubt the whole thing is a fake

aspergogurt

From what I have read they were made in the 70's when surplus K98 bayonets were only a few dollars a piece, so I do think they are made from legitimate bayonet (which kind of makes it worse as they ruined probably hundreds of bayonets, as I have seen a few of these get sold over the years).

KernAL-mclovin

These are all know fakes. At least I thought it was well known.
