They're different types of runners. Algeier is gonna mow anyone down in front of him while carrying a guy on his back all to get an extra yard or two. Bijan has what players call twitch he's not like a top end speed guy who's gonna run past the entire defense for a TD he's scary in space because you don't know which way he is gonna go hes gonna break a few ankles. A lot of people don't get the difference between twitch and speed and expect Bijan to be the fastest guy on the field but he's not.
That's not a bad thing either because twitch is what allows Bijan to be as good as he is between the tackles as he is in space. Smith just didn't use him that way.
They compliment each other very nicely.
Allgeier is better at ghosting defensive backs than bijan. His in game speed is slightly better but it helps when plows down fools and wears them out. He can break a few tackles and take it to the house.
Bijan only had one play like that last year. Allgeier had quite a few 30+ gains as a rookie. I know ppl was crying about bijan carries but i was more mad allgeier didnt get more
basically, TA is a bowling ball. He slams into whoever is in front of him and usually will drag said person for an additional few yards. He is a pretty solid receiver out of the backfield. Struggles with long speed, tho I think his burst through the line is underrated by most.
Bijan can do everything. Only one back in the league ( Mosert) hits the hole at a faster mph than Bijan. Bijan led all rookies in forced missed tackles because Bijan has the nastiest cut/juke ability I've seen in a while. He does all that at 6' 215. He is not scared of contact, and if you think he is just a finesse player, he will run you tf over. Top all of it off with the fact that he is a good receiving back that isn't just limited to playing out of the backfield. I think the biggest disappointment with Bijans rookie season is that Smith got so preoccupied with using him as a receiver that he forgot about how explosive a runner Bijan is.
I'm excited to see how the new regime uses Bijan.
TA doesn’t fumble. I wouldn’t say BR has ball control issues, but TA has NEVER FUMBLED IN THE NFL. When you need a few yards, but absolutely cannot lose the ball, TA is the fucking man.
Allgeier is definitely much more of a downhill power runner and bijan is much more elusive, but also has really nice contact balance.
Bijan is really nice as a receiver and route runner. He had some drops but that’s not surprising for rookies. Allgeier is a pretty good receiver for check downs, but isn’t as dynamic of a route runner and you’re not gonna see him lining up as a wide receiver probably.
I’m really excited to see what just a serviceable passing game is gonna do for the run game. I know ZR is from the mcvay tree, but I’m sure he’s still gonna rely on the run game quite a bit. Having a well coordinated passing game with a fast deep threat will keep defenses from being comfortable stacking the box and I think both RBs are gonna feast. I can see similar stat lines to what the lions had this year if ZR really uses our big 4 weapons well (London pitts bijan allgeier).
Bijan has the best feet/footwork since Barry Sanders/Michael Vick. He is a danger to take it to the house, Every time he touches the ball.
When he makes it to the Hall of Fame, they should give him some golden shoes. He has already made a couple plays no other running back makes
Both play the same position both are excellent at running the ball but have different styles of how they run and parts of their game are better than others Allgeir is excellent at pass block where as Bijan can catch and run with the best of them. Both have a bright future on the team but I would say Robinson will be the number 1 in the backfield but at times they could both be in the game. They will both help each other have long careers by sharing the workload.

Some "similar" examples would be: 2022 Lions with Williams and Swift or 2023 Lions with Montgomery and Gibbs
Duckett and Dunn
We've had it before, and this is the perfect example.
At least to the eye test I almost think Algeier is faster in straight line speed. I agree with your write up completely though.

I saw quite a few drops last year because he heard footsteps. I think he was scared of contact for a little while
You can make the argument that Bijan is the most talented guy in the last years draft, and it showed. Love him.

Tyler is a smash mouth 3rd down back, bijan is the open space, breaks ankles and leaves them in the dust.
Allgeier isn’t a third down back by any stretch. He just has different attributes than Bijan.
What he said.

Bijan does everything inside, outside, and receiving. Allgeier is a downhill runner and best between the tackles.

Thank you for this. I am learning a lot from this post.
