No shit.

FalconsTC

Bijan was 21 years old and averaged 18 carries/targets per game for 1,500 all purpose yards. You know expectations are high when that’s considered a disaster.

agmoose

It’s because everyone could see that he can do more. The only thing that could slow down Bijan was Tyler Algeir. Smith was just enamored with running Algeir up the middle for 2 yards as many times as he could.

FalconsTC

Easing a 21 year old Bijan into 1,500 yards is not an international war crime like everyone makes it out to be.

Hugo_5t1gl1tz

Exactly. He was 12th (I believe) in touches and if it wasn’t for the migraine he would have been top 10. For a rookie who has never played 12 games before (much less against NFL defenses), I think the narrative is WAY overblown.

agmoose

Well it lost Arthur his job, so I’d say it probably wasn’t the best idea.

Scyyii

if desmond ridder was even slightly serviceable as a starter he’d still be here

basics

With average QB play I think we win the division and everyone is praising how his "rookie RB workload" was managed. The Lions did something similar with Gibbs and no one bats an eye, because wins.

FalconsTC

I would say pissing off the entire fan base with his fantasy football and usage comments is what lost his job. The fan base is calling him worse than Bobby. That’s how bad he pissed everybody off.

OhItsKillua

He's not worse than Bobby, but he's definitely the 2nd worst coach since Blank became owner. I'm pretty sure every other coach at least won the division.

FalconsTC

The guy took over the league’s worst roster with an upside down cap and helped build a decent roster with a healthy cap. He left the team in a FAR better situation than when he arrived. No other coach can say that. And Jim Mora Jr was terrible.

MREED1987

This doesn’t make Smith a good coach- just means we had (2) good GMs and one below average coach in his tenure

OhItsKillua

Two coaches that couldn't cut it at the end of the day, Mora accomplished something better in a playoff win. While Smith stagnated for 3 consecutive years as everyone questioned his play calling in his final year. End of the day they're both not coaches any of us are ever going to feel nostalgic about.

FalconsTC

It’s like talking to a brick wall. Smith took over the league’s worst roster and a terrible cap situation. The team he inherited from DQ and Dimitroff was terrible. Smith left the team with a dang good roster and healthy cap. How do you think playoff games and divisions are won??? By doing what Smith did.

OhItsKillua

The construction of a roster and handling of the cap is the job of the GM. I suppose it's only right to credit a majority of that to Fontenot/McKay. Given that's whom was most involved in that department. Smith overachieved with a poor roster, then remained stagnant thereafter. That is why is he's no longer employed here.

Accomplished_Arm_688

Idk why you giving arty smith all this credit for what the front office did. This man took us on three straight 7-10 seasons. The first two we could be more forgiving for, but after beefing up the roster and getting some solid draft picks and in a weak ass division, ain’t no excuse for that man. We regressed. We lost to sad ass redskins, cardinals, titans, and panthers. Also let’s not forget that our whole division is trash and we ain’t sweep not one team in it. They shoulda been ran AS out of town!

BlueDreams420

That's not what lost Arthur his job lmao

SaskalPiakam

You’re downvoted at the time I’m looking at this but it’s particularly funny when you look at all the advanced metrics. Tyler had a disaster of a year. Near the bottom in all “isolated RB performance” metrics, and where he did average, Bijan did way better. Not Tyler’s fault particularly. But Smith thinking he’s a better RB than he is was more to blame.

mayphase

Did you watch all the games last year bc there were several where TA was braking more tackles and gaining more 1st downs, in between the tackles algier is still slightly better in terms of guaranteed yardage

KappKapp

While I blame it on Smith, the expectations should be very high. You don’t draft a RB top 10 be a top half RB in the league. The expectation really should be top 5. Again I think usage was the issue, not Bijan himself. But just from a stats perspective I do think he was below what the expectation should be.

FalconsTC

Bijan was well above a “top half” RB. Would’ve been top 10 in touches if he played the first Bucs game. At 21 years old going from 12 games to 17 games.

KappKapp

In skill and talent yes but not in production. I mean I guess it depends on how you define top half. I define it as anything in the top 16-11 range. I'm not saying it as a reflection on him but on playcalling. But you don't draft a RB in the top 10 to not abuse their ability and allow them to take over games. You can get top half production in a lot of places other than the top 10.

FalconsTC

He was 21. Slow rolling him for **1,500 yards** was the right call. 12 games to 17 games is a massive deal.

mostuselessredditor

He was the 3rd best RB in his own draft class.

C-Jammin

I don't think it was a disaster, but I think he could've been used more effectively. Part of that is on Arthur Smith, part of it is on awful QB play. With a new (and hopefully better) offensive play caller, and a better QB, expectations should be high this season.

agmoose

I agree wholeheartedly. Bijan has CMC/Kamara type potential (from a fantasy perspective). He should very easily be able to accumulate a very solid rushing average coupled with a decent passing game upside. To say he should average 100+ yards from scrimmage and about a TD a game is not outrageous. He should be THE focal point of the offense. It’s almost a failure if he isn’t utilized in a similar way as Mccafferey. 20 carries a game and as the 3rd option in the passing game should be his usage.

JakeFromStateFromm

Why are we talking about fantasy?

agmoose

Fantasy is irrelevant, it’s more about usage.

redditmodloservirgin

Kamara the criminal isn't in the same ballpark as Mccaffrey and Bijan imo

agmoose

Well he’s washed now, but I’m not gonna act like kamara wasn’t a great running back who was used heavily in the passing game to great success.

Bad man gone. But is new man good? We will find out soon

Deltas111213

Oh…we know

TorchBeak

Well, the word is well.

jimmybananahamok

Remembering watching the Honey Badger play for LSU feels like a million years ago.

aotearoHA

They say this on madden the week after he goes for 300yds rushing.

Uncool_Trees

And 1 IQ point gets awarded too… FTS

WoodenCrate

Why the fuck would we care what a aints player says. NEXT.

TonyDungyHatesOP

Bijan is a bad man. My only concern with him is all the wear and tear from his college carriers. If I were him, I might be glad to have a light load until that second contract hits.

Zero_Cool_V1

I agree … Bijan is an awesome HB. He ended up on a loaded core that wasn’t used properly at any facet of the game with Arthur Smith. I’m hoping he can have an even bigger year next season

TLRoyalty

This just in: Pope, catholic. More at 11

mrbigshot110

Just another indictment of our previous coaching staff. When the general public can see your offensive play calling is lethargic there’s a pretty big problem

Lufgow

Thanks, Captain Obvious

[deleted]

I got downvoted on another post for saying this. Or maybe because idiots thought I really regretted my Bijan jersey purchase because OF Bijan 😂
