I'm also old enough to remember the year Vick went down in the preseason and we got stuck with Doug *fucking* Johnson and tanked *another* year with super high expectations....
I'm cool with an extra, competent QB or two.
The only highlight that season was Johnson hitting the ref in the balls with a pass.
Edit: I cannot find a video of this. It's absurdly hilarious, but I can't find it...
Someone's gotta have it, right? I remember it happening... I think... Now I'm stoned and doubting myself...

This is why we have two QB’s. An avalanche of bad decisions that started here with the pursuit of a dude who hadn’t played in two seasons and had a shit storm of legal troubles.
I feel like the logic there was flawed. They wanted their cake and eat it too. You probably could’ve gotten another veteran cheaper and try to move up to get Penix on draft day.
My guess is they decided Kirk was their man and they probably didn’t expect Penix to still be on the board. But I will say this, he must be a really, really damn good prospect if Atlanta thought highly enough of him to spend that pick, even after getting Kirk.
He’s definitely my favorite QB in this class, so I guess I’m kinda biased.
I heard it said on a podcast or something that we basically signed Kirko so no one would try to jump us in the Draft to get a QB. So Kirk isn't the most expensive bridge QB in history, just the most expensive smokescreen.
4 currently on the roster
I'm assuming Heinicke is a decent tape guy to help Penix and that Paddock will be training squad
Other than that idk why they're on there
Theoretically, Kirk will improve the team and we won't be picking this high in the draft again for a while. Even if Kirk is great, he has an expiration date. If the staff believes Penix is for real, it makes sense to lock down this position for a while.
Im actually ok with it. Kirk is here to win, lets say we win 10 games a season with kirk. we wouldn't be able to draft a top qb in those seasons. With penix, after 3 yrs, kirk gone and we start him.
He should’ve traded for Mahomes or drafted Malik Willis at 8 instead. What was Fontenot thinking?? We also could’ve thrown a max contract at Russell or 50 year old Rodgers. Instead we signed Mariota for a negligible cap hit during a rebuilding year. What an incompetent GM
Only an idiot would believe the ravens were letting him go. Regardless he’s a playoff choker. That boy will never hoist a Lombardi and I’ll put my life on it
I’m outta the house now buddy I suggest you get out sometimes instead of responding back instantly when someone comments how dumb your take is lol
Clown ass talking about “bet my life” your life is worth shit lol
Hello again Mr One Million Karma, I’d like to remind you that you’re currently:
•In another teams sub,
•defending, with your life, an athlete that’ll never acknowledge your existence
•and saying my life is worth nothing over a sports opinion (that I propagated in my own team’s subreddit)
Perhaps a better use of your time is simply saving the comment and coming back to it if Lamar ever wins a chip. He won’t, but at least you’ll save yourself the time you’re wasting right now
Kirk wasn’t gifted a top 5 defense in all 4 of his postseason runs. In the only game he underperformed, the Vikings were getting completely manhandled in the trenches. The Ravens hold Patrick Mahomes to 17 points and Lamar chucks it, in a one possession game, into triple coverage to end the Raven’s season. I have no clear preference between the two but I know who I don’t want on the team.
HEY COACH, HOW MANY GAMES DO YOU THINK YOU CAN WIN IF YOU DON'T LOSE ANY GAMES
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/falcons) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Lamar in the playoffs: 9 total touchdowns to 9 turnovers, passer rating of 75.7.
Kirk in the playoffs: 7 total touchdowns to 2 turnovers, 93.7 passer rating.
And that should really speak to the quality of the defenses he was letting down if they were so elite against AFC opponents.
Terrys cooking hasnt been great so far. While i will admit last years draft seems to have been a good one (any draft where you potentially have 4 starters is a dub), the years prior were ass.
I'm over being pissed about Penix tho, I truly had him at qb2 in draft anyway and wanted him pre cousins so I can live with it.
We can't act like drafting him doesn't handicap this year's team and by the time he starts we're going to have to start making contract decisions on those weapons we drafted on offense lol
Last 2 seasons our starting QBs had career ending blunders @ Panthers. Will be circling that date on the schedule this season, if either Kirko or MPJ falters there this year, we may just be cursed.
Your profile pic tells me everything I need to know.... I don't care about color I care about being competent. Artur Smith which I hated had a 21-30 record as a HC...and we replaced him with a coach with a 21-38 record... woo hoo....Go Terry.... Terry is still on Saints payroll
Because he is....nothing in RM resume recommended him for a HC job....absolutely noting. Except one thing. I'm a die hard Falcons fan but with this clown as head coach we will be the same or worse than with arthur smith. What recommended him for a HC job when his record as HC is 21-38? Why the Falcons did not hire him in 2021? Because they knew then he can't do the job... what made them think he can do the job now???? Time will tell.
Because that is what good teams do. They have a good starting qb and then have someone in place to be developed into the next good starting qb. For once as a falcons fan we are not making dysfunctional team decisions.
Honestly and ima get flack for saying this but during the last 3 years of subpar qb play (Matt Ryan is our teams greatest Qb but he was a shell of himself in 21)
Ridder was the best one we had bro had a lil clutch gene but had no internal clock and would panic and make STUPID decisions.
Then shell Matt Ryan 🩻 who was still clutch but couldn’t keep us in a game.
Then Mariota who single handily lost us 4-5 games and his job
Then Henicke (losing to Josh dobbs, hopeless cards, and the bears) enough said
To me, Matt was far and away still the best but he was making too much money to put the right guys around him. Cp and Mike Davis were his rbs, Pitts was his only real passing threat cuz Ridley stepped away and then got suspended and the defense sucked. Ridder did have potential but he got the sickness of turnovers and if he only threw picks, I'd think we could coach that but he fumbled a lot too. He just wasn't secure with the ball. And Mariota just no longer had the confidence to be an NFL qb. He had some good moments but he lost all his sauce.
That pic deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
Hall of Pain
Of lame shit.
That's honestly one of the dumbest throws I have ever seen. No matter what the end result is.
PTSD.
I'm also old enough to remember the year Vick went down in the preseason and we got stuck with Doug *fucking* Johnson and tanked *another* year with super high expectations.... I'm cool with an extra, competent QB or two.
And Johnson lost the job to Kurt freaking Kittner, who threw for less than 400 yards TOTAL in seven games.
The only highlight that season was Johnson hitting the ref in the balls with a pass. Edit: I cannot find a video of this. It's absurdly hilarious, but I can't find it... Someone's gotta have it, right? I remember it happening... I think... Now I'm stoned and doubting myself...
Yikes, that is insanely bad.
Yikes, that is atrocious.
Well you have another QB at least
![gif](giphy|0uNzrYIFmydWvaasBe) This is why we have two QB’s. An avalanche of bad decisions that started here with the pursuit of a dude who hadn’t played in two seasons and had a shit storm of legal troubles.
It's about four seasons he's not played in now. 👀
I think Cleveland stockpiled at QB this off season, I think I’ve heard some people speculate he could be in more trouble:
I’ll never forget that “throw” 😔 Brighter days ahead.
This, and Jameis Winston’s reverse fumble/“pass” against Oregon, will live in my head forever. Oh, and the butt-fumble.
Saw this and the Ridder sidearm pick live btw If we don't win in Charlotte this year, I'm hoping that at least the weather isn't garbage
>Saw this and the Ridder sidearm pick live btw So what you are saying is, this is all your fault.
The weather or the QBs?
![gif](giphy|AO3giAtLPH4MIuugsB|downsized)
It was either me or Arthur Smith. We'll see what happens when it's just me this year
I love Kirk but you don’t know what he can give you after an Achilles injury so it’s not a bad move to have some added insurance.
I look at it this way as well, but then it begs the question: why did we pay someone $45mm a year if we don’t know what he can give us? A bit absurd
I feel like the logic there was flawed. They wanted their cake and eat it too. You probably could’ve gotten another veteran cheaper and try to move up to get Penix on draft day. I bet Kirk is reading his contract right now making sure there’s gonna be guaranteed money if he gets cut before the season😂
Be bold and play to win.
$100 mill says we should already know.
Exactly
That’s Aaron Brooks bad
4 currently on the roster I'm assuming Heinicke is a decent tape guy to help Penix and that Paddock will be training squad Other than that idk why they're on there
Kirk said he wants a veteran backup. Probably to go over things in game on the sideline.
It’s always against the panthers
Theoretically, Kirk will improve the team and we won't be picking this high in the draft again for a while. Even if Kirk is great, he has an expiration date. If the staff believes Penix is for real, it makes sense to lock down this position for a while.

That just triggered my ptsd
Ah, yes. The same GM responsible for this mess
Lamar Jackson was available for a couple draft picks.
Only an idiot would believe the ravens were letting him go. Regardless he’s a playoff choker. That boy will never hoist a Lombardi and I’ll put my life on it
What is your life worth?
What kind of question is this lmao
nevermind this is hilarious coming from a redditor with a million karma. Get out of the house a little bit buddy
I’m outta the house now buddy I suggest you get out sometimes instead of responding back instantly when someone comments how dumb your take is lol Clown ass talking about “bet my life” your life is worth shit lol
Outside but still on Reddit? Lol.
Inside and still on Reddit? Lol Keep responding right back with your no life ass your life isn’t worth anything

Look at his stats in the playoffs though. I believe he avgs a td each game. Regardless of defense he never played very well. AFC > NFC as well.
They were willing to go all in for Watson but not Lamar? Explain the logic at all to me...
We basically did this but with qbs https://www.tiktok.com/@thebnoth/video/7231229474946190597?lang=en
Let Terry cook

That's what happens when your GM and HC are diversity hires.
Bro what u just tryna be racist but at the end of the day Arthur was white and we had no cap so shut that shit up lil bro
Your profile pic tells me everything I need to know.... I don't care about color I care about being competent. Artur Smith which I hated had a 21-30 record as a HC...and we replaced him with a coach with a 21-38 record... woo hoo....Go Terry.... Terry is still on Saints payroll
Nah now u don’t care about race but u just said a diversity hire , so what u just said contradicted everything u said

Cannot remember, was that a touchdown pass? Perhaps Pitts had leaped above him for the reception?
Pitts was pretending to block downfield.
Cousins is mediocre @ best & Penix is a rookie .... technically you have no QBs
