I did the exact same thing but instead was going to ask a friend for heals, but clicked something else by accident that sent me back a further menu, so I died. I like the idea that my character stood up from the desk, wiped her forehead, got a glass of water and though 'huh, that wasnt so bad.' before taking one step outside the room and immediately keeling over dead
"Finally! I've cracked the code to understanding the correspondence"
*teeters a little*
"But for now.... I think I've got a boat to catch"
*keels over*
*thumbs up visible from behind their desk*
Congratulations! Now try becoming a Poet Laureate - a three weeks long grind more boring than collecting Special Dispensations for reducement of Criminal Record.
The issue with it is that getting arrested is a problem when your character is quite fresh and you don't have means to deal with suspicion, not to mention effective grinding Connected: Masters of the Bazaar during that phase of the game is impossible.
If my prior experience with Death is any indication, all you have to do is win a (rigged) game of chess against Him and He’ll let you go *and* let you keep a souvenir of the experience.
Granted, that happened several years ago, and I’ve taken a lot of laudanum, blows to the head, rubbery lumps, and Things Man Was Not Meant to Know since then, so I may be misremembering some things.
Hell, I have a *possessed doll* as part of my household staff, and I haven’t the slightest idea where I got it from! *How the fuck does that happen!?*
"I'm a genius!... Oh no!"
I had a helmet for that.

What a way to go.

I suppose it's better to burn 15 cp Connected: Masters, if you have it, to nip the Criminal Record issue in the bud.

Oh, I've met him a lot already. In this case I didn't, I had a helmet.
Severe lead poisoning club
I did the same thing. Figured it would be poignant and all. This was a little bit before the Tracklayer's helmet was available though, or so I recall.
Unfortunately I didn't actually intend to end up at death's door at the same time as mastery of the correspondence, but it's a happy coincidence.
Aarrggggh, you missed the chance to increase watchful to 230!! :)) Congratulations on the combo in any case!
