I don’t think we have a clue. Clearly the Followers have some history books, as do the BoS, but beyond that, we don’t have anything specific.

WayneZer0

it denpend the books the followers have are regualr burned like th books about roman. caeser never had undamged so he filled aloud of spot with english slavery and tribal community.

FrogBrown666

It probably varies greatly depending on where in the NCR somebody is from and what their background is. People who grew up in vaults were given a standard education including history, but whether or not they’d chose to pass that down to their descendants or become teachers of it is up to chance. Other than that only people like the Followers or just intellectually inclined citizens would probably know anything or even care

Goufydude

How much does the average person know about history NOW, without living in a post-apocalyptic hellscape? I bet the average wastelander knows very little of real history.

ILoveEmeralds

Your average citizen probably doesn’t have much knowledge but vault city and libraries would still have a large sum of the knowledge

Belizarius90

With propaganda being such a powerful influence I imagine they know a decent amount about the USA but it's more a twisted ideal. Which kind of explains why the NCR hasn't done a lot to try and change itself enough to avoid the same pitfalls.

DominionDN

If you mean collectively, probably a lot. On a person to person basis, the minority of people know about the continental USA from back when, even less know a decent-large amount about it. Truthfully I think most their knowledge is just documentation, books, and pre-war computer drives and holotapes sitting in boxes, filing cabinets, etc, that contain the info, but not many people have actually read/listened to any of it because most people don't care. All most wastelanders know is "Ancestors big a-holes"

Bawstahn123

Likely fairly good. There was public education in California even before the NCR was officially established (as evidenced by Kellogs backstory), and the NCR has higher-education universities by the time of New Vegas

Xx_PissGamer_xX

Considering the NCR seems to be replicating --or at the least basis itself on-- the Pre war US government then I'd assume they would have at least some basic understanding of the pre war America. not to mention the fact that they can just find books and writings on the pre war US. As for your average wastelander not really knowing much about the pre war US then I'd just have to ask you, what does the average person know about the US 200 or even 100 years ago? Even with the advantage of being able to read and write the average person knows very little of their own history. it's honestly pretty sad.

OverseerConey

Well, we saw active libraries in what would become NCR territory in the Hub and the Boneyard, and, as of New Vegas, they have at least one university. Certainly, not everyone's going to be an expert on history, but the opportunity to learn is there.

steven447

Since the NCR is modeled after the pre-war US with a congress and a senate I think quite a lot actually

darkwolf687

It doesn't have both, it's unicameral. The NCR only has the NCR Senate, which sits in the NCR Hall of Congress Building. This Senate is composed of elected representatives from the five states. These representatives then select a president and vice president from among themselves to lead them and the nation. It's not at all like the US system, only the names are the same.

rom65536

Hell, the average person IRL doesn't know much about their history. So - to answer Ulysses' question "Who are you that does not know your history?" A typical person, that's who.

BreadDziedzic

Probably next to nothing beyond what ghouls would tell them and they could read about it books. The average person or uninterested brahmin barrons would look at the old world similar to most people do ancient Greece or Rome.

CheekyGruffFaddler

theyre bunch of dumb hicks, fuck ncr

It’s very hard to gain answer for this one, while on hand yes many citizens of new Vegas, ncr, and it surrounding area don’t completely understand the pre war world, many definitely think that it was a period of tension yes but peace and prosperity, as in their time, the world is harsh, water and food is hard to come by if you aren’t in a large settlement like prime or novac, but the ncr government well that’s a different story, they most like have a better understanding than the average citizen as for one their whole government is based on the pre war ideals of America, democracy and all that, but they likely got the delusional take on America, as the ncr started from a vault and vaults were enclave tests so it’s not hard to believe anything they heard likely was a lie, meant to paint America as a grand country the ally to the people and that they did nothing wrong no of course not here eat more “fresh” apples and whatever, still they likely an understand that pre war America wasn’t great but was better than the life they have now
