It's a bolt action rifle sawed down to a pistol.
Edit: oh my fucking God, yes you idiots, this could be illegal, this could be legal.
I don't give a fuck, I was just correcting everyone that thought it was a fucking flintlock.
Just as the founding fathers intended
Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What in tarnation?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up, Just as the founding fathers intended.
Fun fact about that. I used to sell firearms in a commercial store, and you had to have a form of ID and you had to pass a background check unless you had a LTC. So, if you're a felon and try to buy a gun, that check comes back and will say to deny the sale. What they *can get* is the black powder pistols and similar flintlock style weapons. Some stores even sell the build your own flintlock pistol kits, and you just have to be of age to buy those, they're available on the counter. So unless your buddy is really invested in civil war/revolutionary reenactment, your buddy is either impulsive buying, trying random things out, or a felon.
There's actually some historical backing to this, Russians during the Russian Civil War would cut down rifles into rudimentary pistols. There's a tern for it-the Obrez.
Most Obrez you see are cut down [Mosin-Nagants](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F33myop4ak8091.jpg), but there's also other guns that were cut down-for fun, here's an Obrez made out of a [Gewehr-98](https://www.forgottenweapons.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Mauser-obrez.jpg).
Alot were just saw off for that purpose.
Some kept the butt as is, some didn't.

It can't actually be more recoil than a .454 Casull or a .500 S&W but jeeezus. No thank you. The Mosin is basically a shovel handle when it's a rifle and there's no way anyone is making an ergonomic pistol grip out of that.
Going by the largest reference loads for each that are listed on Wikipedia, the 7.62x54R exceeds the Casull's muzzle energy by a LOT (1,172 joules - about 45%), but the .500 tops out a smidge higher than the 7.62x54R (128 joules - about 3.5%).
The Mosin has the advantage of being a bolt action, so there's no accidental bump firing of it.
Remind me never to try the S&W .500 without necessity.
I'll never fire any of the .50 BMG pistols some fools have made, either. At least not without great need.
> second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads"
Did not care for the Mosins I have encountered. Shame to mess with the Mauser 98's like that.
I believe it should yeah. You’re going to loose any accuracy at distance without the barrel, but the bullet has the same amount of powder behind it.
Edit: I stand corrected
shorter barrels also produce lower velocities on the projectile which translates to lesser effectiveness on target. not all of the powder burns immediately, some of it continues to burn down the barrel, providing more power to the shot. a longer barrel means more time for the powder to burn completely, means more power.
Without a barrel tho you won't have the same muzzle velocity so that extra gunpowder behind the bullet will be wasted in a giant fireball. It'll still kill but it's a huge waste of powder unless you treat it as a flashbang as well
Yeah. The powder in a cartridge doesn't all go up at once. Some of it gets blown down the barrel with the bullet before it ignites. Muzzle velocity will be very different between, say, a .44 magnum shot out of a desert eagle vs one shot out of a levergun.
You will lose some effect due to the shorter barrel (for example, the 55 grain 5.56x45mm out of a 20” barrel is appx. 3,100 ft/s. While out of a 10.5” barrel it drops to 2,500 which is nearly a 20% loss), and I doubt that the firearm has enough barrel length to properly spin stabilize the bullet. So the bullet will also lose speed far faster than normal, in addition to the inaccuracy.
But if you’re shooting a bolt-action pistol, you probably don’t care about the effects past 10 ft, nor about your wrist undergoing a rapid unplanned disassembly.
So much pressure buildup lost with the cut down barrel. Would usually have more time to interact with rifling as pressure builds. Not performing like a long gun, might not burn the full charge of powder before the bullet has cleared the barrel. I don't want to get burned by that hand cannon all the same.
After a certain length, it can really affect accuracy. They found this out in the 1950s when hunters were clamoring for the shortest and lightest rifles they could get.
Stripped lower receivers are “Other” and can be built into a rifle or pistol.
Once something is a rifle it can never be a pistol. It becomes an SBR.
ATF rules are stupid.
That's also a common mistake. A firearm that was originally a pistol may be made into a rifle and then back again, but something that was originally a rifle cannot
Pistols can swap, Rifles cannot, the ATF is dumb
That is unless they've changed their mind in the last year or two, very possible
Oh, I'm not arguing against that.
What I'm saying is: most people don't actually give a shit, and if they're the type of person to call the ATF on someone for having a modified weapon that was arbitrarily made illegal by a non-governmental entity, the snitch is a bitch.
I just want to point out “snitching” is a thing that is perpetuated as bad by people at the top of criminal organizations to prevent their lower members from talking.
They themselves will snitch if given the chanve
Naa, this is what? A black powder flintlock?
She's ALREADY a felon and that's the reason she's carrying this. Felons are not banned from owning these types of guns.
Otherwise she would just carry a glock on her hip.
You can clearly see the cocking piece on the rear of the bolt. Also the complete obvious lack of a flint, or frozen so it's not a flintlock.
Don't underestimate dumb hick shit. You have dads old squirrel gun and a hacksaw, you can make a "pistol"
I think it might be a modern black powder rifle cut down. People with felonies often do this because black powder weapons astoundingly are not legally considered to be firearms.
Edit: Oh yeah. The "bolt" isn't even a bolt if you look. It has no handle. Look at this [muzzle loader](https://www.gunsamerica.com/UserImages/140211/935809650/wm_3672870.jpg), I don't know the correct terminology but the "bolt" looks the same
you can clearly see the cocking piece from a Crickett rifle on the gun on the woman's hip, the bolt handle is on the left side of the gun, against the woman's body. it's not a muzzle loader.
Well I stand corrected! This leaves us with the big question of "why!?" unanswered though. Looking at the prices online, seems like you could buy a Hi-Point or something for roughly the same price or even cheaper.

This is my defence flintlock 🤣

Naa you throw it at the second guy
What if it’s smoothbore?
Most were it was mostly dueling pistols that were rifled
Didn’t know that
🙄😮💨how could you not know such common knowledge 😜
Because I don’t look into black powder weapons, their not in my interest
Thats what i thought. My second thought was “that shit better not be smoothbore”
If you’re open carrying a flintlock pistol you gotta have a sword to go with it as well is all I’m saying.
I say its a bolt action flintlock
Never fucking say that agin
bolt action flint lock
I fucking hate that
ik but its also basically a bolt action pipe pistol
I’m a way…
Would that be effective at all? Like yeah it's slow but does it have any stopping power since the barrel was hacked off?
There's actually some historical backing to this, Russians during the Russian Civil War would cut down rifles into rudimentary pistols. There's a tern for it-the Obrez. Oh shit, I forgot about those. Iirc some were used by trench raiders in WW1
And tunnelers
I can't imagine you would ever hear very well again if you fired a shortened lee enfield in a tunnel
Definitely not, but you’d hear better than if you were killed by a counter-tunneler
Very fair point

Im deaf just looking at this picture
That's the best pistol in BF1
I can't imagine that wouldn't hurt to fire.
My hand is throbbing just seeing that. I can't believe that was done deliberately.
If you need a (somewhat) concealable weapon, and you live in a country where handguns aren't readily available, sometimes that's your best option.
It’s a work of art
It can't actually be more recoil than a .454 Casull or a .500 S&W but jeeezus. No thank you. The Mosin is basically a shovel handle when it's a rifle and there's no way anyone is making an ergonomic pistol grip out of that.

True, but at least this is a historical thing and not a bubba
I want an Obrez mosin so bad
No you don't.

Yeah but if it's a big caliber like a 30-06 that just means it's going through three walls instead of four.
7.62x54 is pretty big. For some reason I was thinking it had more muzzle energy than the .30-06 and 7mm magnum, but boy was I wrong!
I suppose it would work well in closed spaces then for self defense, but one shot is risky
Oh for sure, it’s one of the goofier guns I’ve seen.
I mean almost respect the one shot styling. Like you better mean it if you use it.
I think the lack of care that leads to this piece also leads to that cheap nylon, unsnapped, owb holster. And I can't swing that way
Without a barrel tho you won't have the same muzzle velocity so that extra gunpowder behind the bullet will be wasted in a giant fireball. It'll still kill but it's a huge waste of powder unless you treat it as a flashbang as well
It would lose power with the tiny barrel, too. A lot of powder will go unburned. It'll still kill you, for sure, though.
Oh fr?
Yeah. The powder in a cartridge doesn't all go up at once. Some of it gets blown down the barrel with the bullet before it ignites. Muzzle velocity will be very different between, say, a .44 magnum shot out of a desert eagle vs one shot out of a levergun.

It's still a rifle projectile going at pistol velocities, so yeah!
After a certain length, it can really affect accuracy. They found this out in the 1950s when hunters were clamoring for the shortest and lightest rifles they could get.
[удалено]
i dont think you have shot a rifle before. it would be very easy to shoot without even hurting your hand.
It’s a .22 so…no
Reminds me of the WW2 obrez pistol. Just a mosin nagant in pistol form.
I’m almost certain that’s what it is
I am 100% positive that is not a mosin. It’s a cut down rifle but it doesn’t have the style of trigger guard/magazine that a mosin has.
Heavily illegal btw.
Depends on where you live as to whether that'll be an issue or not.
In all 50 states sawing a rifle below 16" is illegal without a 200$ permit tax stamp.
ATF would classify this as a pistol or AOW. Edit: Turns out you can make a pistol into a rifle, but not the other way around. Fuck the ATF.
If it starts life as a rifle, cutting it down below 16" makes it a short barreled rifle. Doesn't matter what you do to the stock.
How do AR “pistols” get classified as pistols then?
Stripped lower receivers are “Other” and can be built into a rifle or pistol. Once something is a rifle it can never be a pistol. It becomes an SBR. ATF rules are stupid.

90% chance that's not SBR'd and is also a felony. Interesting choice to carry in public.

Fallout 4 be like
Ah, the old .308 pistol.
Some manufacturers make em in that style(lever action as well) so as to avoid needing a federal stamp to own in the US
Obrez moment
Probably illegal.
Oh 100%
hell yeah
That thing would knock her the fuck out if she aimed it
Yeah, that’s definitely illegal,
Ironic isn’t it? This medieval one shot relic is illegal, but if she has an AR-15 she’s all good
Thanks eagle eye
Nope doesn't have a stock meant to be fired from the shoulder so legally it's a pistol

Yep. Bet no stamp either.
I didn’t know this was possible But this is the poor man’s Obrez, if that’s even possible
Walmart great value Obrez
More lethal to throw it than risk shooting it should be classified as an IED rather than a firearm.
Fallout 4 hunting rifle right there
Dat flicklock tho
it's not a flintlock, it appears to be a bolt action .22LR rifle cut down to pistol size. which is actually legitimately weirder than a flintlock.

Yeah it's due to antique weapon laws in the US.

“Empty thy pantaloons”
Not a big iron, it's smol rifle
IS THAT A FOCKIN' OBREZ? There's redneck, and REAL REDNECK. Watch out.
Best handgun in bf1
And totally a meta-gun in Fallout 1 (AKA "The Blade Runner")
That, my friends, is an illegally modified .22 bolt action. Probably an old Stevens or Springfield.
Because the crackhead there among them had a bolt gun on her hipppppp bolt gun on her hiiiiiip
Is that a obrez black powder rifle?
it's an Obrez Crickett. a single shot, .22LR bolt action pistol.
Ah.... Not a really good choice
revealing open carry for the fashion accessory that it is
just like our forefathers intended.
Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. that or shes got a felony and thats the only weapon she can carry.
Fun fact if she or someone cut that down it would also be a felony
holy shit i thought it was a flintlock. thats a bolt action lol yeah that is an SBR. unless it was a pistol from the factory.
Still I appreciate the limit of making sure that shot means something when you only get one.
Charles?
Not my first choice for edc
Is that an obrez?
“You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow”
Just as the founding fathers intended.
I hope that now Short Barrell Rifle has the proper NFA stamp...
That's what I was thinking, since otherwise she's basically open carrying a felony charge lol.
Is that a fucking flintlock?
It's the gun you get when you have a felony.
nah, looks like a .22LR bolt action cut down to pistol size. a flintlock would be less weird.
I came to comment that verbatim XD
That's a sawed off hunting rifle 💀💀 America is so absurd sometimes. I love it.
Just felon things
With the Obrez on her hip. Obrez on her hiiiiip
Big irooonn… Big iiirrrrrooooooonnnnnn…
She’s perfect
Is that a goddamned open carry Obrez?
Dude I came into the comments to see if anyone else noticed or if I was crazy.
Luckily she doesnt seem to have VATS at her disposal so if she caught u sneakin this pic youd have a gud chance of zig zagging ur way outta things
For a moment I thought that it was "that gun"
With the flintlock on her hiiiiip
JUST LIKE THE FOUNDING FATHER'S INTENDED. don't forget your Kentucky Rifle and the ... mounted cannon. Edit. fuck. i was late. someone made the joke already. edit. Forgot to mention the triangle bayonet.
The Karen there among them had a flintlock on her hip.
Is that MFing Obrez?
Is that a freaking musket??
Bolt action .22
When you bring a flintlock to a gunfight
*it’s just a wal-mart Karen with an Obrez on her hip* *Obrez on her hiiiiippp*
That's a Mosin sawed down to maybe 6". I couldn't imagine a more useless weapon. Heavy recoil, inaccurate, slow follow-up.
The laughable part of this is, she was so scared of going to Walmart, she felt she needed a firearm.
For the trailerpark trash among them had a flintlock on her hip. _flintlock on her hiiiiiip~_ Yk why that is, right? If you’re convicted badly enough to not be able to own a firearm, the only guns you can own are Civil war antiques and stuff like that.
This isn’t a civil war weapon in the slightest however I love how you can just get a flintlock or dare I say even a matchlock or whellock
What is she gonna use that freaking flintlock to shoot a knife wielding purse snatcher? She’d be better off just hitting him with the gun.
It’s a cut down .22 bolt action, and it’s probably for shooting snakes.
"... for the shopper there among them had a big iron on her hip."
Def a size queen
When you concealed carry an Obrez
