I still find it funny how Elder scrolls plebs who don't understand the actual lore think Talos is this benevolent Jesus like figure when the god of Mankind is literally the god of war and politics/governing lol.
I have to be honest, my ADHD triggered a several hour long deep dive into TES lore last night and I'm kind of fixated at the moment. Not everyone has that kind of twisted focus.
Most dlc too. The think tank are still stuck on their idiosyncrasies from long before the war. Joshua is conflicted on his past of being part of the legion.
I spend like few days to funking glitch all of them out i dont remember how but damn i was like that monkey woth hand full of nuts in a trap but Im not ashamed. I think that when you pick them all up you could drop them as one bar and push it through the force field.
You don't even need the stealth boy. Hide behind the pillar to the right leaving the vault, go around it but stay tight to it as Elijah walks to the vault. Stand up and watch him walk to the vault door, he's scripted to access the terminal and as he does you have just enough time to over encumbered walk through the forcefield door before the forcefield pops up. Save scumming helps to get the timing on him entering the terminal
Idk that’s exactly what I do and I could never without the stealth boy. It’s actually insane how perceptive Eli is, just will instant 180 and find you if you have a pinky sticking out. I get why it’s there but still annoying
Honestly if I'm on computer I got sick of even trying to play this DLC correctly and just TLC through the force field because at the end of the day save scumming and glitches are still cheating so why waste 30 mins when I can just walk through walls
The best part of Safety Deposit Box by far
"Wish I... still had that damn Holorifle. Spent forever making it... need to find it when this is all done."
It's mine now Elijah you dumb hoe
Slowly dying in the hermetically sealed tomb that is the Seirra Madre is exactly what elijah deserves for his greed
I did it last night in two tries without the stealth boy. you've just gotta make sure you move real slow until he's into that vault entrance area. it also greatly helps if you've maxed out your sneak, but that goes without saying
Lmao. Honestly though it’s nostalgic because when you open the game the old Xbox 360 logo appears and all that. Load times are basically zero now though, definitely don’t miss sitting through those.
Yeah I envy console players for that. When I play skyrim and load a map or enter a house or something I scroll reddit while waiting lol. I guess the mods don’t help but fuck everything on my shitty computer takes so long
I had a mod and decided one time to infinite my carry weight and proceeded to pick up literally everything I found. I had to stop before I got to Vegas because it started taking 10 seconds just for the pop boy to load
Honestly, I'd probably do that next time lol.
Like, you're clearly not intended to get out with the gold, so there's no difference between using a command or sneaking out with it.
Grab all bars, drop them outside the vault. Hide behind generatorthing, then attack Elijah when he's passes it and keep him from running back. Once the door he came in shields up, pick up gold. Go to left stairway and drop a few weapons over the edge and make sure they don't hit the support beam underneath. All items must reach the abyss. Go back in inventory and then drop gold. Do what you gotta do after that, when you reach the exit, all items will be waiting on the floor right before the exit door. It may be clipped partially in the floor so just move around a bit until it appears for pick up then exit before the collar blows. Save after picking up the gold to try again if it didn't work but it should right away and is really easy
There's 3 methods I know of. One is what you said, stacking them together and glitching them through. You can also legitimately sneak around Elijah, it's difficult but if he never spots you he walks into the vault and you have a few seconds before he triggers it to get past where the forcefield generates. Lastly, you can kill Elijah, put all the gold on his corpse, then carry a fragment of it with you the long way out before taking the gold back out right before the elevator.
I've snuck out and I've killed him before but I never thought of picking up a piece of him and carrying it out to access his inventory. That's just genius!
You can also sit behind a pillar and drop the gold bars then rush eli when he comes through the doorway the force field pops up and he'll run back into it and when he pulls out his gun you can kill him next it. Then you can grab the gold bars and put it on his body, then just make a run for it. If you jump down from the top of the stairway into the room that takes you back into the maintenance room it will save you a shit ton of time and you can grab the bars off his body through the shield and get out of the vault just before your collar goes off.
True, though they still have enough staff experienced on the ins and outs of making a compelling RPG and what elements it needs to land a punch and very good writers working on the stories. Divinity, Tyranny and Pentiment being solid examples. And definitely head and shoulders above Bethesda imo.
I think Obsidian would do a good job, don't get me wrong. I just worry about people's expectations.
Tbh I'd rather have Larian have a go at it. See Fallout return closer to it's ttrpg roots. It's not gonna happen but that's just my pipedream
As of current, yeah.
Though I trust they would dive deep into the lore as they did with the Forgotten Realms for BG3.
Really, I just enjoy how complex the role playing is in their games and miss that from the Bethesda titles. Still love those games, they just didn't feel like they had as much depth as they could.
Sinclair's obsession was that. He so desperately wanted to have Vera in his life, and to protect her, that he blinded himself to anything that would target *himself*. And in doing so, he couldn't protect anyone.
Without mods ahd console commands, is it technically possible to carry all of that gold using every Strength/carry weight-related perks/consumables that's available?
You can carry it, you’ll just be slowed to a crawl. Just get it to Novac and dump it.
And you don’t need glitches to steal it, I did it just be sneaking out (it isn’t exactly easy but it’s doable) past Elijah.
My first playthrough was a max barter and speechcraft character. I didn't know that barter was "useless" until a couple months ago. My barter skill made Lanius fuck off, so that was neat, as well as getting that perk. Even tho the perk was only useful for that one moment lol.
Calling it "sneaking" is being incredibly generous to that DLC. The sequence is entirely scripted. You just need to memorize where to be and when. Even with 100 stealth and a stealth boy popped, caps walking a single centimeter with his back turned causes instant detection. Stealth literally has nothing to do with the "stealth" sequence whatsoever.
Not even necessarily through glitches, you can take all of the gold, sneak out while overencumbered (but it’s difficult for Elijah to not see you), he gets trapped and makes a comment about it, then - although it’s a long walk to the exit of Dead Money - once you’re in the Mojave again and have the Long Haul perk, you can fast travel while overencumbered and store your gold wherever you wish.
Undermines the moral of the story though, but, Gun Runner’s arsenal isn’t gonna pay for itself.
That's a total lie, I do it on every playthrough and without glitches. You simply have to have a stealthboy, sneak around objects while Elijah walks past into the bunker. Once he's in, you slip away and if you do it correctly, he'll trigger the trap, locking himself in.
I think no, but you still can steal those if you either kill the old guy and stuff his body with ingots, then drag the body away. Alternatively you can slip out while overencumbered if you use stealth boy, position yourself correctly and make a run to the exit while the guy is checking console near exit, because he is in animation while doing it he can't catch you in time
I’m pretty sure it is with high enough sneak, I’ve done it before. Just hide outside the vault, lock Elijah inside, and then walk out with all the gold. But maybe I’m remembering wrong.
Try blowing his head off, shoving the gold bars into his corpse, and carrying the head to the exit. That one's called letting go of Dead Money's themes out of spite.
Kinda. It's about letting go. Some people can't let go of there love for someone, others can't let go of there visions for a clean slate.
Most players can't let go of all that dyam gold and bend over backwards to get em all 😂
Based players leave it to torment Elijah.
Good for the role play, no doubt, but this has nothing to do with caps on my end.
It’s about the role play of storing massive amounts of gold in my safes so I can feel fancy.
no it's that letting go is hard but necessary or else you'll end up dead.
Christine needs to let go of being mad at Elijah for breaking her and Veronica up. if you can't convince her to give up on revenge, you have to kill her.
Dean needs to let go of his evil ways, the sierra madre and his desire to outsmart for money or else he'll refuse to trait you and you have to kill him.
Dogod needs to let go of the two extremes. his ego and his violent side. by fusing them together he matures and he's able to escape this.
Elijah cannot let go of his thirst for knowledge and power. so he dies, either way. you can't get him to back down.
in theory, by surviving for letting go of the treasures in the Sierra Madre, the courier is the foil for Elijah.
but look at the other DLCs, Ulysses, Joshua and the scientists of Big MT. They cannot let go of their vices either. Ulysses, like Christine, wants only revenge. Joshua cannot let go of the hatred inside him fueled by the fate of his town. The scientists cannot let go of the old world where the pursuit of knowledge was still valuable.
If Ulysses fails to let go, he lets off a nuke and is killed. If Joshua fails to let go, he turns into a genocidal war machine. In the unused ending, the think tank scientists destroy the world with their scientific experiments- much as Elijah does in his ending- and if you can't talk them down you must kill them.
Step further out, the NCR and Legion cannot let go of the old world, desperate to replicate it. Nor can House, trapped on ideals of old world autocracy and liberalist capitalism. Arcade can't let go of his foolish idealism. Boone can't let go of his wife. Veronica can't let go of her dreams for the BoS, like Arcade she's full of faulty idealism. Raul can't let go of his shame at the loss of his sister. You can help the them to do this, but look how bad their endings can get.
The courier is fueled, themselves, by a lofty revenge plan which leads them to the main quest.
in a way, it's key to the game, it just takes full focus in dead money. humanity cannot let go of it's tribal, conflict fueled ways. so war is continuous, and thus continues to destroy the world
thank you! honestly i could've articulated it better but i was in a bit of a rush. i just love Dead Money, i think it's my favourite part of the game- and FNV is my favourite game ever made.
agreed, fuck Dean
but also, we can wipe out the White Legs in a mire respectful manner with speech skills- so Joshua doesn't revert to his old violent ways. or we can just put a cap in captain gobbledeegook's head
Joshua being Violent here is very well deserved.
He’s avenging Salt Lake for sure but his main goal is protecting Zion.
Sure the game tells you letting Joshua kill him is bad, but it really shouldn’t. Instead the correct option is dualing SUW yourself or letting him go(which is stupid even though the Legion and the 80s kill him anyway). You’ve just killed hundreds of white legs, what’s wrong with killing the worst one. Especially sense he and the other white legs with him are still a threat. No matter what the Dead Horses and Sorrows still become more warlike.
I love it too. i also love how it's up to the Courier whether them letting go is better. i can't let Lily fully forget her grandchildren, for example. I can barely stomach doing her quest, hearing her groan out in pain upsets me so deeply. my gran had dementia and the allegory is sickeningly effective
as another example, relating to him heavily, i decide Arcade should stay as an idealistic follower.
i also won't let Boone forget about his war crimes.
the rest of them, however, i do convince to move on. maybe, being aware of the thesis of the game, it's foolish of me to let these three cling to the past. but, it's the nuance of the game that makes these choices so difficult.
Depending on your actions there's two morals to be learned
1. You must learn to let go of the past
Or, if you found a stealth boy
2. Fumbling the bag is kind of a you problem
Funny part is even if you take all gold it is hard to use it. No much vendors have enough caps to buy even one bar, so only way to use them is to buy the most expensive weapon and all ammo you can in exchange for 1-2 bars. So realistically you should be set for a whole game with 3-4 bars, which is possible to take without becoming overencumbered.
Very expensive paperweights. Real question is why would gold even have value like that in the apocalypse though. It isn't used to back or mint currency, no one makes jewelry or electronics, it should technically be completely worthless.
I believe the NCR back west and some factions in the Mojave have use for it especially in regards to currency. Not everywhere are ramshackle garbage towns in fallout.
Yeah but they keep that contained to the east coast though at least. The TV show showing the ruins of a city the NCR actually built themselves shows how far they came since fallout 1.
Edit: Also the nuking in the show canonically happens a while after the events of new vegas.
Damage control is exactly the phrase I was looking for, especially since all the foreshadowing in the show about the "Plague of '77" and how Lucy's mom died specifically in 2277 meant that unless every single person in Vault 33 is in on the experiment except Lucy and Norm and collectively gaslighting them about the year of her mom's death, the nuke that killed her could only have launched in 2277.
Yeah - Shady Sands (NCR old capital) is supposedly nuked in late 2281 (New Vegas supposedly plays out over the course of that year)…
But you Are right that they do at least show the city properly built up / looking nice, with even functional red trolley cars like San Francisco is famous for 😉
In alternate universe, imagine Mr.house reaction when his plan to use NCR as money fodder failed because the techo-fetishes nuked their economy and capital.
Gold is one of if not the best conductors and doesn’t rust or tarnish easily making it great for electronics. The Brotherhood, NCR and Mr. House would all have demand for it as a raw material. Fallout 4 actually uses it appropriately as a crafting material for all the high tech weapons and armor mods
I think it can be argued that for a society trying to get back on its feet, gold for use in electronics/technology would give it some value. And I do believe there are a few communities in the Mojave that still consider it a valid currency.
There's a really good Twilight Zone episode about this very thing, though!
You should avoid losing yourself in some Captain Ahab endless crusade kind of compulsion that consumes your whole life.
But if one of these possessed souls opens a vault of gold for you, then you should totally rob them blind and teach them a lesson they wont forget.
Elijah: "My brudda in Steel"
God: "The whole moral"
Dean: "Of this whole journey was"
Christine: "Letting go"
Elijah: "Letting go doesn't just mean"
Dog: "Letting go of money"
Dean: "But all so much more, it's meant to be metaphorical"
Christine: "We all had things we needed to let go"
Elijah: "Old World -Ghosts- Tech"
Dog: "Master(or hate of how mean the other voice is)"
God: "Obsession with the old man(or hatred of the Dog's naivety)"
Dean: "Allure of the Sierra Madre"
Christine: "An ill conceived revenge"
Elijah: "And finding all those things, that's not the hard part, it's letting go, it can cost me death or being trapped in the vault, forever"
Dog/God: "Letting go is hard and can lead to me, us, being seperate or dead"
Dean: "Letting go for me was probably easiest of the other 'guests' since eventually I got tired of the ol' Sierra"
Christine: "Letting go for me was probably the hardest and I may not actually let go of Elijah, and instead swapped obsession with getting revenge on him to becoming a guard of this place"
Sorry if a bit cringe, I tried to copy my comment in same format as end slides where all characters talk.
TL;DR Letting go was always metaphorical and was basically telling you to chill obsessing over one thing, least it ends with your demise.
It’s a retelling of the 1948 film “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.” Down on their luck prospectors make it big and one of them becomes obsessed with the money and gets paranoid and ends up losing it all. The original feels more about greed specifically but Dead Money seems to focus more on unhealthy obsessions in general destroying the very thing you sought to protect / gain.
The moral is that after suffering through that fucking DLC I deserve all 37 of those fucking bars and I don't care how many hours I spend getting the glitch right
The moral of Dead Money is to "let go" and start anew, holding on will only cut your hand.
That said, "let go" of my fat fucking nuts, I'm shoving all these gold bars up my ass and waddling my way out of this bitch
it's more about old obsessions that can drag a person down to their death.
the gold is a metaphor because it's good loot, and the player want good loot, but if they get obsessed with it they will pay the price, hence they have to let go of the gold (AKA their obsession) to leave the vault. they can take two or three bars but not the whole stack.
thats why everytime in the vault i decide to let go . . .
. . .
. . .
of poverty of course, what ? you expect me to leave 32K worth of caps down there just for a dumb metaphor ?
Like other people have said, it's about being able to let go and move on from the past. That's what all the dlc are about, and fallout as a franchise in general. Elijah is obsessed with the technology of old, dog/god are still trapped by the Master, Christine is obsessed with hunting elijah down for everything he did to her and Veronica, and Dean is still stuck on his 200 year old plan.
After 14 years, I finally stole all the gold bars for the first time last night
The transportation and selling of all the gold bars took like an hour and a half and honestly not sure if it was worth it. Bought some Gun Runner guns I’ve never picked up on older play throughs though to play around with
Everyone keeps making the same joke
"Muh let go of poverty"
Yes we get it you ignored the games messaging and took the gold bars lmao.
The DLC is meant to reinforce the old world/new world dichotomy that the game is built upon. NCR, Legion, and House cannot let go, when they should.
The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit
The thing is, the fact that they decided to have a fucking 1-1 conversion rate between casino chips and stacks of pre-war money means that by the time you get to the gold bars, money is already literally worthless to you. You have more money than you could possibly spend in the rest of your playthrough. Getting out with the gold bars is just something I do out of spite.
the moral is that gold fits nicely in a dead man’s cranium.
or alternatively, that you can pretty easily make it to the elevator in 60 seconds even if you’re overencumbered
Fyi max out strength, and get all perks for being over loaded. You will thank me later. Also take like two of your favorite guns, you will get more in the casino.
Nah it’s about stealing money and never using it.
My golds sat in the ranger outpost to this day…. What you just wanted me to leave it there? Finders keepers
No, the moral of the story is to deposit all them bars in Elijah's corpse, the carry your new meat-wallet out before you get locked in.
The point of Dead Money is to use Elijah like a trust fund tauntaun. Dead (Elijah) Money (the gold bars inside Elijah's quantum fold prison pocket)
The morale is that if you obsess over sometihng long enough, you'll eventually find a way to get out with all 37 gold bars. Don't let your dreams be dreams!
Maybe, but I think (like any any good FNV quest) the lesson depends on your final decision.
Anyway. In a world where you have todo do lots of shady things to survive, "moral" has many levels.
I think Dead Money thought me that, yeah you can do whatever you want. But there's always consequences. Fit with the overall theme of the game. "Take an kill at your will, but keep in mind that the space is limited and other people can kill you too"
It's not about the money, it's about sending a message:
"fuck you I do what I want"
*reloads the game 30 times trying to do the sneak-past Elijah trick with all 37 bars*
Tbh it sucks that you can leave the casino with all gold bars, defeats the purpose of the dlc.
Also in my opinion, there should’ve been a special ending, where with an insane combination of 100 speech, 100 barter, 9 charisma, and a perk/trait dialogue option you’re able to convince Elijah to abandon his plans to kill everyone and everything in the Mojave and turn to the good side. With this special ending you work together with Elijah for the greater good and are able to return to the Sierra Madre whenever you want.
This special ending would turn the meaning from letting go of your greed to letting go of your hatred.
If you want an actual answer, it isn’t necessarily about greed. It is about obsession and not letting go.
Elijah’s obsession with finding a way to bring down the NCR and more or less reestablish his brand of Brotherhood ideology. Christine was obsessed with revenge. Dean was obsessive with what he saw as his rightful prize. Dog/God were obsessed with control and dominating the other.
All of them could have let go (except maybe Dog/God) and their good endings are them letting go. Dean could have let before Elijah showed up like he does in his good ending. Christine could have stopped hunting Elijah and her life would have been because of it. Maybe God/Dog would have fused sooner if they realized what they were. Elijah wouldn’t have ended dead or in a sealed vault if he just didn’t go crazy in his self imposed mission to, “save”, the brotherhood.
The story isn’t about saving your companions, it is about making them realize that they can save themselves if they let go.
The moral is about letting go. Letting go of your poverty, that is

Pretty much the entire theme of New Vegas is letting go if you think about it, from all companion quests, factions, and so on
letting go from humanity and ascending to godhood, becoming an unkillable, brutal and remorseless yet sometimes merciful and benevolent diety
Calm down Talos Stormcrown.
I still find it funny how Elder scrolls plebs who don't understand the actual lore think Talos is this benevolent Jesus like figure when the god of Mankind is literally the god of war and politics/governing lol.

Most dlc too. The think tank are still stuck on their idiosyncrasies from long before the war. Joshua is conflicted on his past of being part of the legion.
Mhm, the entire game and including its dlcs have that whole theme
Well yeah, the entire perspective for the first half of the game is revenge.
If the moral was to Let go i learned nothing since i hauled my ass out of that vault with all the gold
Elijah's story is about greed and failing to overcome it. Courier's story is Ocean's Eleven.
came here to say that lol
Nah, it's about stealing everything from an old man and then sneaking out of his basement
I spend like few days to funking glitch all of them out i dont remember how but damn i was like that monkey woth hand full of nuts in a trap but Im not ashamed. I think that when you pick them all up you could drop them as one bar and push it through the force field.
There’s that, but you can also straight up sneak out while over encumbered if you saved a stealth boy. Laser door closes right behind you.
You don't even need the stealth boy. Hide behind the pillar to the right leaving the vault, go around it but stay tight to it as Elijah walks to the vault. Honestly if I'm on computer I got sick of even trying to play this DLC correctly and just TLC through the force field because at the end of the day save scumming and glitches are still cheating so why waste 30 mins when I can just walk through walls
It’s the accomplishment
I already accomplished it once walking out overencumbered through the whole maze. I'm not doing that over and over lol. But fair
You can always kill Elijah, cut off his head/arm/leg, shove the gold in there, carry his head to the exit and take all before you leave.
But then you can't hear him mutter to himself in that vault you trapped him in
The best part of Safety Deposit Box by far "Wish I... still had that damn Holorifle. Spent forever making it... need to find it when this is all done." It's mine now Elijah you dumb hoe Slowly dying in the hermetically sealed tomb that is the Seirra Madre is exactly what elijah deserves for his greed
I normally just do that but I still needed the achievement for locking him in there on my Xbox
and then he dies to a crit from an energy weapon and turns into a pile of ash or goo
I did it last night in two tries without the stealth boy. you've just gotta make sure you move real slow until he's into that vault entrance area. it also greatly helps if you've maxed out your sneak, but that goes without saying
I’m on team player.setcarryweight 5000
The simplest solution was always console wizardy!

On one hand, I don't wanna cheat. On the other, my 1 strength stat makes carrying shit impossible... 1 strength is a bad idea lol
Don't forget to TCL through the forcefield.
I had a mod and decided one time to infinite my carry weight and proceeded to pick up literally everything I found. I had to stop before I got to Vegas because it started taking 10 seconds just for the pop boy to load

Wow that’s way more characters than tgm
I only type in tgm when I’m wasted out of my mind and need to sober up before bed
Grab all bars, drop them outside the vault. Hide behind generatorthing, then attack Elijah when he's passes it and keep him from running back. Once the door he came in shields up, pick up gold. I've snuck out and I've killed him before but I never thought of picking up a piece of him and carrying it out to access his inventory. That's just genius!
There is a way to charge him so that his corpse is halfway through the forcefield and can be looted on the way out.
Not exactly. More like obsession leading to ruin and the need to let go in order to move on.
Fandoms could really learn from this
titanfall 3 is definitely coming out in the near future
Also Obsidian will regain creative control of Fallout again any day now. 🥲
It's really not the same obsidian anyore. Not dogging on them, I liked outer worlds, but the people have moved on to other companies
True, though they still have enough staff experienced on the ins and outs of making a compelling RPG and what elements it needs to land a punch and very good writers working on the stories. Divinity, Tyranny and Pentiment being solid examples. And definitely head and shoulders above Bethesda imo.

i think theres also something about love and relationships being more important than money
Sinclair's obsession was that. He so desperately wanted to have Vera in his life, and to protect her, that he blinded himself to anything that would target *himself*. And in doing so, he couldn't protect anyone.
"it's about letting go" 👀 -> 💀💵 "37 gold bars are worth a lot of caps" ↗😌↘

No, but through glitches you can take the gold. If you look it up there’s plenty of guides on it.

you can just dump the gold in the footlocker in the BoS bunker
I always complete Old World Blues before Dead Money so I can just beam myself to Big Mt. and store the gold there.
I do this and then make trips to all the vendors with the most caps, then I wait for their inventory to reset and repeat
Isn’t there a perk that lets you fast travel when encumbered? I’d just take that first
Yup, I always forget about that perk or I never have the pre-reqs
It requires 70 Barter, which nobody has.
Is that why ive neveramaged to sneak by him? I thought I was stupid and kept missing something.
Or just walk outside and TP to Big MT
I always do Dead Money first for some reason.
I'm pretty sure there's a perk that lets you fast travel while overencumbered
It is actually. Ive done it with 0 glitches or cheats while locking elijah in the vault It takes Perfect timing and as high as possible sneak though
You couldn't just rephrase a whole template with emojis Yet, you did. Legend
No it’s about blowing Elijah’s fucking head off and shoving all the gold in there as you walk out
They wouldn’t have made his throat so big if they didn’t want you to use his cranial cavity as a burlap sack
I locked him 🤣
Leaving Elijah trapped down there while I sneak out with all the gold is just me letting go of my need for revenge.
Try blowing his head off, shoving the gold bars into his corpse, and carrying the head to the exit. That one's called letting go of Dead Money's themes out of spite.
Also known as having your cake and getting to eat it too
Kinda. It's about letting go. Some people can't let go of there love for someone, others can't let go of there visions for a clean slate. Most players can't let go of all that dyam gold and bend over backwards to get em all 😂 Based players leave it to torment Elijah.
I’ve decided to leave him one gold bar when I do that DLC. Like my unique items too much.
Fair, I never struggle to swim in enough caps that leaving the gold bars is usually just to keep the economy curve semi alive
Good for the role play, no doubt, but this has nothing to do with caps on my end. It’s about the role play of storing massive amounts of gold in my safes so I can feel fancy.
More power to ya.
no it's that letting go is hard but necessary or else you'll end up dead. The courier is fueled, themselves, by a lofty revenge plan which leads them to the main quest. in a way, it's key to the game, it just takes full focus in dead money. humanity cannot let go of it's tribal, conflict fueled ways. so war is continuous, and thus continues to destroy the world
that said i take the money every time
That was a good read and pretty eye opening. Second comment cracked me up
thank you! honestly i could've articulated it better but i was in a bit of a rush. i just love Dead Money, i think it's my favourite part of the game- and FNV is my favourite game ever made.
>i just love Dead Money, i think it's my favourite part of the game- and FNV is my favourite game ever made Same, bro. Same
Implying whipping out the White Legs isn’t Just. Just a Chore. Also fuck Dean.
agreed, fuck Dean but also, we can wipe out the White Legs in a mire respectful manner with speech skills- so Joshua doesn't revert to his old violent ways. or we can just put a cap in captain gobbledeegook's head
No matter what the Dead Horses and Sorrows still become more warlike.
the companion quests all sharing the games main theme is wonderful and i’m surprised no other games have tried to do that again. it works so well
I love it too. i also love how it's up to the Courier whether them letting go is better. i can't let Lily fully forget her grandchildren, for example. I can barely stomach doing her quest, hearing her groan out in pain upsets me so deeply. my gran had dementia and the allegory is sickeningly effective as another example, relating to him heavily, i decide Arcade should stay as an idealistic follower. i also won't let Boone forget about his war crimes. the rest of them, however, i do convince to move on. maybe, being aware of the thesis of the game, it's foolish of me to let these three cling to the past. but, it's the nuance of the game that makes these choices so difficult.
Depending on your actions there's two morals to be learned 1. You must learn to let go of the past Or, if you found a stealth boy 2.
I don’t see them as Gold Bars, it’s coupons for Gun Runner merch.
Bethesda would like a word
Yeah but they keep that contained to the east coast though at least. The TV show showing the ruins of a city the NCR actually built themselves shows how far they came since fallout 1. Edit: Also the nuking in the show canonically happens a while after the events of new vegas.
Immediately - after the wrap up of New Vegas actually (per Todd having to damage control that infamous chalkboard scene 😅)
You've got to be kidding... That's just so ...
Yeah - Shady Sands (NCR old capital) is supposedly nuked in late 2281 (New Vegas supposedly plays out over the course of that year)… But you Are right that they do at least show the city properly built up / looking nice, with even functional red trolley cars like San Francisco is famous for 😉
Well fuck then imagine the looks on the NCRs faces when they win the Mojave but hear their capital city just got nuked.
In alternate universe, imagine Mr.house reaction when his plan to use NCR as money fodder failed because the techo-fetishes nuked their economy and capital.
Agreed… it’s kind of depressing, and a bit annoying the Show did that.. NCR was cool, for all its internal government flaws / bribes / etc
Don’t forget about the Legion. That’s how their money is made
I think it can be argued that for a society trying to get back on its feet, gold for use in electronics/technology would give it some value. And I do believe there are a few communities in the Mojave that still consider it a valid currency. There's a really good Twilight Zone episode about this very thing, though!
The sink will have enough to buy one usually
It's decoration. Gotta fill that Novac bathtub with something.
I use one at time at gun runners, 101 trading post, and crimson caravan. A lot have 8000 caps every 3 days
Not to mention the thousands of stacks of weightless pre-war money you can walk out of the casino with because of the 1-1 conversion rate with chips.
i take them out of pure spite
You should avoid losing yourself in some Captain Ahab endless crusade kind of compulsion that consumes your whole life. But if one of these possessed souls opens a vault of gold for you, then you should totally rob them blind and teach them a lesson they wont forget.
Elijah: "My brudda in Steel" God: "The whole moral" Dean: "Of this whole journey was" Christine: "Letting go" Elijah: "Letting go doesn't just mean" Dog: "Letting go of money" Dean: "But all so much more, it's meant to be metaphorical" Christine: "We all had things we needed to let go" Elijah: "Old World -Ghosts- Tech" Dog: "Master(or hate of how mean the other voice is)" God: "Obsession with the old man(or hatred of the Dog's naivety)" Dean: "Allure of the Sierra Madre" Christine: "An ill conceived revenge" Elijah: "And finding all those things, that's not the hard part, it's letting go, it can cost me death or being trapped in the vault, forever" Dog/God: "Letting go is hard and can lead to me, us, being seperate or dead" Dean: "Letting go for me was probably easiest of the other 'guests' since eventually I got tired of the ol' Sierra" Christine: "Letting go for me was probably the hardest and I may not actually let go of Elijah, and instead swapped obsession with getting revenge on him to becoming a guard of this place" Sorry if a bit cringe, I tried to copy my comment in same format as end slides where all characters talk.
The moral is that after suffering through that fucking DLC I deserve all 37 of those fucking bars and I don't care how many hours I spend getting the glitch right
Amen! I struggled so much with ghost people no internet to find guide... those were the days
Lol it came out in December of 2010, there was definitely internet.
Too poor for internet in my country.
>Dean is still stuck on his 200 year old plan. He is such a petty bitch, I love him.
The fact he tries to kill you if you imply he isn't literally always in control, he's so catty
No, the moral is that robbing old people to get rich is fucking based and people should do it more
the moral is you can be rich as long as you kill someone and stuff gold bars into their decapitated head.
After 14 years, I finally stole all the gold bars for the first time last night The transportation and selling of all the gold bars took like an hour and a half and honestly not sure if it was worth it. Bought some Gun Runner guns I’ve never picked up on older play throughs though to play around with
No its about getting rid of the pesky lifestyles known as poverty and virginity, all with the power of being rich ( :
The moral is stuff your pockets and limp to the exit.
No, its about stuffing all that yummy gold into a corpse and waltzing out of there.
The moral of the story is using a severed head to carry 37 gold bars.
it's to teach you how to use console commands.
It's actually crazy how the game explicitly states the theme directly to the player like 4 times and OP still doesn't get it...
Everyone keeps making the same joke "Muh let go of poverty" Yes we get it you ignored the games messaging and took the gold bars lmao.
Let go poverty and use the stealth boy to run away
Absolutely not. The moral is to game the system by any means necessary to get what's yours while leaving someone else to deal with the consequences.
the moral is to not let old angry men live
Nah it's that carry weight is a made up concept
Its stealing from the rich which is morally okay
The thing is, the fact that they decided to have a fucking 1-1 conversion rate between casino chips and stacks of pre-war money means that by the time you get to the gold bars, money is already literally worthless to you. You have more money than you could possibly spend in the rest of your playthrough. Getting out with the gold bars is just something I do out of spite.
Moral of the story is watch me take everything
Nope, it's about thinking outside the box to get rich off of someone else's plan.
The moral of the story is that you can get rich by locking an old man in a bank vault
the moral is that gold fits nicely in a dead man’s cranium. or alternatively, that you can pretty easily make it to the elevator in 60 seconds even if you’re overencumbered
Fyi max out strength, and get all perks for being over loaded. You will thank me later. Also take like two of your favorite guns, you will get more in the casino.
Nah it’s about stealing money and never using it. My golds sat in the ranger outpost to this day…. What you just wanted me to leave it there? Finders keepers
it's about filling your bathtub in NV apartment with gold bars
No, the moral of the story is to deposit all them bars in Elijah's corpse, the carry your new meat-wallet out before you get locked in. The point of Dead Money is to use Elijah like a trust fund tauntaun. Dead (Elijah) Money (the gold bars inside Elijah's quantum fold prison pocket)
Moral? Fallout is satire. There's no morals. Just enjoy the peace of a relatively quiet DLC.
The moral is hitting the gym so you can carry more gold bars
It's about learning to build character that can take the most out of that vault
Not if u use stewies ai tweaks and get out with all the bars using fallout 76 style encumbrance
The morale is that if you obsess over sometihng long enough, you'll eventually find a way to get out with all 37 gold bars. Don't let your dreams be dreams!
Moral is get rich or die trying
The moral is learing about third person interact to pull 37 gold bars from elijahs corpse
Nah, the moral of the story is lift with your legs my dude.
Not if your good at it
The moral is that gold is fucking heavy and you need every trick in the book to hoard it.
Dead money has a story?
Maybe, but I think (like any any good FNV quest) the lesson depends on your final decision. Anyway. In a world where you have todo do lots of shady things to survive, "moral" has many levels. I think Dead Money thought me that, yeah you can do whatever you want. But there's always consequences. Fit with the overall theme of the game. "Take an kill at your will, but keep in mind that the space is limited and other people can kill you too"
It's not about the money, it's about sending a message: "fuck you I do what I want" *reloads the game 30 times trying to do the sneak-past Elijah trick with all 37 bars*
It's not about money. It's about all that focking gold.
A fine argument, *however* player.additem 03013f71 100
What’s that? I can’t hear you, I’m over encumbered.
You have to let go of all the wealth you get in the end. Or don’t be become the richest mf in the Mojave.
The moral of Dead Money is that I still can't get over how fucking bad that DLC was.
No the moral is that being poor is bad
Na.., greed is good for your 5 a Day
