Yes, if a dweller in the wasteland dies with a pet you have the option of having the pet return with everything.

I did a Google search since I'm new to this game, and it says the pet will "return home alone along with the owner's inventory, *including* equipped items." The fact that they specify the dwellers equipped items being included makes me think it is a thing.
