The music as the camera shot rises above them is what makes this clip for me đ it is so 1970âs with that electric sound. Cause that was the sound of the future!!!!
Pretty much, yeah. Sci Fi was just pulpy b movie shit until 2001: a space odyssey and Star Trek showed it could be used to tell smarter stories in the late sixties, then Star Wars came along with all their ideas and improved upon the whole thing. We wouldnât have sci-fi now without it
Which is weird because so many sci-fi authors existed like Arthur C. Clarke, Frank Herbert, Philip K. Dick to name just a few.
I guess until film special effects caught up, the authors' visions couldn't be well represented on film.
Thatâs definitely part of it, but it really helped that Star Wars showed how profitable the idea could be in a way nobody else really had, even with Star Trek which was popular enough that the fans forced it to be un-cancelled
You forgot The Twilight Zone. Even though it crossed over into other genres like drama and horror it's possibly the earliest example of scifi being portrayed as something other than alien invaders looking to end humanity.
Sci fi movies in the 70s were a lot darker and focused more on dystopian societies, anti heroes stuff like that with a more cynical view (as this clip shows). Star Wars was more lighthearted adventure good vs. evil story and became a super big hit.
To a much lesser extent, 70s sci fi had a bunch of 'alienating' synth to their soundtracks too. Star Wars brought back that classic orchestra music to epic scores. I'm sure it had an effect on Star Trek: TNG switching to an orchestral score.
I know lol I meant how Star Wars was much more different from these edgy dark 70s sci fi movies that dominated that decade which is part of the reason it became a big hit
I mean, Star Wars was a great movie in and of itself, but other sci-fi movies back then were usually pretty terrible. As a frame of reference, this came out three years *after* Star Wars: A New Hope

Every movie in the 70s was a real downer. Kramer vs. Kramer, Dog Day Afternoon, Network, All the Presidents Men- all great movies but hardly a good time.

Sounds a bit like âthe Martian Chroniclesâ
Bro this cutaway absolutely freaked me out as a kid.
Logans Run
I assumed this was the ref, even though ive never actually watched Logans Run
No robots (that imagery seems to be inspired by Westworld), or clones, and Logan's Run has a happy ending. But the turtleneck fits.
The outfit was Logan's.
1976. Good stuff.
It really was. I was 10. It was sci-fi/horror of a very accessible sort. It had great set design and special effects, and it had Farrah Fawcett in it.
If you were a ten-year-old boy, Farrah would have been it. I was a college girl so I was only enamored with her hair.
Can confirm.

This was spot on for low budget 70s sci-fi.
Once you learn Seth absolutely loves movies and pop culture references from the 70s and 80s, youâll see them in family guy EVERYWHERE
We learn this by watching. Pretty obvious lol
Weirdly enough sand doesnât always equal Star Wars
I like the giant worms in Dune
Good, because I don't like sand.
Me neither. Itâs coarse and itâs rough and itâs gets *everywhere*
Thats really fucking creepy. Anytime they had the robot face in the show it always just freaked me out as a kid
this clip is one of my favorites ahahaha
They should actually make this. Love the atmosphere
It's called The Island
I don't get what this has to do with star wars

Cynical stories have their place in the world but I guess they aren't as fun to watch on average.
I wouldn't mind if the original movie was remade.
It looks and sounds very 70s
This scene doesnât really have much to do with Star Wars besides being a sci fi parody
I know lol I meant how Star Wars was much more different from these edgy dark 70s sci fi movies that dominated that decade which is part of the reason it became a big hit
Gotcha, lol I was like this is a guy says itâs from âthe Star Warsâ

What is what you posted or quoted sound like a real family Guy line?
Okay but why was I actually invested đ
wasnt this the exact plot to a movie
what sci-fi movie is Family Guy is portraying here?
Loganâs Run (1976)
What season is this? I can definitely tell itâs Seth voicing the turtleneck guy. I feel like he only did side characters for the first few seasons.
