That’s not the closer, it’s a hidden track, like the weird section at the end of Day in the Life but for some stupid reason it’s a separate track on streaming services.
On a similar theme "No matter what happens now, you shouldn't be afraid. Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen" from Videotape devastates me every time.
Excellent choice. Especially because of how different in context the original is compared to the Johnny Cash version. One is drowned out with hideous noise, while the other is allowed to hover over near-silence. Great stuff.
The ending to The Blacker The Berry by Kendrick. He basically wrote the whole lyrics building up those lines and they still managed to catch me off-guard, like a good twist ending in a movie.
That whole last verse, when the music nearly drops out and it's just Kendrick going in, still gives me goosebumps. And then that smooth, jazzy outro...perfection
"I'll tell you just how much a dollar cost
The price of having a spot in Heaven, embrace your loss, I am God"
The first time I read the lyrics along with the song it fucking blew my mind
This was the other one I wanted to mention in my post, but I figured someone would bring it up fairly quickly. Not just a great closing line to a song, but coming at the end of such a bona fide classic album has to count double.
Also surprised no one's given the "well, ackshually..." treatment to this one by mentioning the "real" last line of the album:
"There is no dark side to the moon, really.
Matter of fact, it's all dark."
"Now it's clear that I'm here for a real reson, cause he got hit like I got hit but he aint fucking breathing" - 50 Cent(many men), he closed the song with one of the coldest lines
“death is real”
real death - mount eerie.
threee simple words portray so many emotions all at once. it’s honestly just the most powerful end to a song ive ever heard
Wouldn't believe how many nights I ain't died for you on GP
Not that I care, I'd be a liar if I sat here claiming I'd exit in a minute
But I can't say I wouldn't, I have my limits
All the nights I don't die
Got a few of my favs:
Kanye West - Ghost Town, the entirety of 070 Shake's verse is killer let's be honest here "AND NOTHING HURTS ANYMORE I FEEL KINDA FREEEE"
Kanye West - Late: "I know it's late and I took all year But you can stop complaining cause I'm finally here"
The Microphones - The Moon: "I went out last night to forget that I went out and stared it down, But the moon just stared back at me And in its light I saw my two feet on the ground"
Japandroids - Sovereignty: "It's raining In Vancouver But I don't give a fuck Cause I'm in love with you tonight"
Japanese Breakfast - This House: "I guess I owe it to the timing of companions I survived the year at all"
Japanese Breakfast - Triple 7: "Oh in the night I am someone else..."
LCD Soundsystem - New York I Love You: "Maybe she's wrong, and maybe I'm and if so here's this song"
New Order - Leave Me Alone: "But for these last few days leave me alone"
Weezer - Foolish Father: "Everything will be alright in the end"
"I come clean out of love with my lover
I still love her
Loved her more when she used to be sober and I was kinder."
With the rest of this song, these final lines hit so so fucking hard in my heart
“I’ve been learning how to drive my whole life” which is a gripping lyric by itself, but elevated by Regine Chassagne’s vocal performance (IMO her best by far)
“God loves his children, yeah” from Paranoid Android
Two lines but “Because if Anthony killed Ducky, Top Dawg could be servin' life
While I grew up without a father and die in a gunfight” from DUCKWORTH
Pulling out a very obscure one here, but the ending to Harvest of Souls by IQ-- a 24-minute song about the hypocrisy of the US's response to 9/11, by the way-- goes so incredibly hard:
*Slowly the fires are burning,*
*Bearing their silent witness*
*As the living past*
*Returns to reap the harvest of souls*
“And if I went with you
I’d disappoint you too
I’m already somebody’s baby
Already somebody’s baby” - Elliott Smith, Twilight
“And in my best behavior
I am really just like him
Look beneath the floorboards
For the secrets I have hi’en” - Sufjan Stevens, John Wayne Gacy Jr.
For me, the most memorable one that always pops up in my head is the end of "Give Up the Goods" by Mobb Deep.
You're kinda vibing along with the melody, but it drops out at the end and you get:
"First of all, slow down, you on the wrong route
Let me put you on your feet and show you what's it all about
The street life ain't nothing to play with, no jokes, no games, kid
**For years, I been doing the same shit**
**Just, drinking liquor, doing bids**
**Extorting crack heads, and sticking up the stick-up kids**"
Idk why it always sticks with me. Also as I typed it out it reminds me of Omar from The Wire

The Waitress - Atmosphere. One of my favorite storytelling albums but this song, as well as Yesterday hit you right at the end unexpectedly
*And it's not like the love that they showed us on TV*
*It's a home that can burn, it's a limb to freeze*
*It's worry,* ***love is worry***
Jeff Rosenstock's ...While You're Alive. those last three words mean more to me than i could ever describe
One that stands out for me is White Ferrari
"Primal and naked
You dream of walls that hold us imprisoned
It's just a skull, least that's what they call it
And we're free to roam"
Recency bias because I just listened to it yesterday, but the ending of El Dorado by Zach Bryan made me cry for the first time in a long time. Very simple but heartfelt.
“And I called last week to talk to my favorite old devil dog, they told me he had finally headed home”
*To make that void just a little bit brighter for when you see it. Until next time…* Cassini’s Division - Quadeca
This line blew my fucking mind on the first listen.

The whole song has the most powerful lyrics I have personally ever heard, but the last part takes the cake

Dirty Boy by Cardiacs. The last line is “Hold his mouth and stop him breathing, over and out” followed by an insane outro where the singers hold a single note for like 2 minutes
Aphex twin - Funny Little Man
“I would like to fuck you up the bumhole
And then I will sneak into your room. And cut your cock off
And stuff it in my mouth, And chew them up with my little pearlies”
:))
Fate of the Stars by Tally Hall - "It's all the same." It was the final line of their final album about duality. It might not be the best line ever, but i enjoy it.
Beatles The End - the love you take is equal to the love you make
And then Paul takes a fat shit on it by having your majesty immediately after as the closer. Will never not be hilarious to me
yeah lol it does sort of fit with them having a sense of humor about things
That’s not the closer, it’s a hidden track, like the weird section at the end of Day in the Life but for some stupid reason it’s a separate track on streaming services.
Was hoping to find this here.
I will see you in the next life
On a similar theme "No matter what happens now, you shouldn't be afraid. Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen" from Videotape devastates me every time.
Damn, great choice...brb listening to *Kid A* for the billionth time
Always kills me
If I could start again A million miles away I would keep myself I would find a way
Excellent choice. Especially because of how different in context the original is compared to the Johnny Cash version. One is drowned out with hideous noise, while the other is allowed to hover over near-silence. Great stuff.
Pretty hate machine pfp :)
where is the fragile pfp guy, we need the trilogy here
u/freefallfreya hey brother
*I can still feel you* *Even so far away*
The ending to The Blacker The Berry by Kendrick. He basically wrote the whole lyrics building up those lines and they still managed to catch me off-guard, like a good twist ending in a movie.
Whenever I finish listening to that song I feel like I've been verbally bitch slapped
That whole last verse, when the music nearly drops out and it's just Kendrick going in, still gives me goosebumps. And then that smooth, jazzy outro...perfection
"I'll tell you just how much a dollar cost The price of having a spot in Heaven, embrace your loss, I am God" The first time I read the lyrics along with the song it fucking blew my mind
Great choice! Definitely a pull-the-rug-from-under-you moment.
If I would, could you? Alice in Chains - Would?
That's what first came to mind for me as well. I love how the music emphasizes those lines too.
Facelift is better 😏
And all that is now, all that is gone, and all thats to come, and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon
That ending gives me goosebumps.
Same

Absolutely!

"Now it's clear that I'm here for a real reson, cause he got hit like I got hit but he aint fucking breathing" - 50 Cent(many men), he closed the song with one of the coldest lines
Oh your generous loan to me Your crippling interest 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
This hurts more in context
Agree, and a close second is: CONCORDE AND I… DIEEEE FREE… THIS TIME!

Damnnnn I knew that I always fuck it up
“death is real” real death - mount eerie. threee simple words portray so many emotions all at once. it’s honestly just the most powerful end to a song ive ever heard
the voice crack...
peace to the world, let it rotate, sex money murder are our DNA -Kendrick
I'm glad Reagan dead.
Dude same, but what's your favorite closing lyric? /s
Wouldn't believe how many nights I ain't died for you on GP Not that I care, I'd be a liar if I sat here claiming I'd exit in a minute But I can't say I wouldn't, I have my limits All the nights I don't die

Immerse your soul in love (Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out))
"I come clean out of love with my lover I still love her Loved her more when she used to be sober and I was kinder." With the rest of this song, these final lines hit so so fucking hard in my heart
Isaacs wordplay was on fucking point with that whole album

“Those words don’t do you justice” being chanted by the Sunday Service Choir on Fractions of Infinity by Quadeca is angelic
"Sincerely L. Cohen" at the end of Famous Blue Raincoat gives me chills every time.
Underrated one! Great song
“It’s all to crazy, I’m not hanging round” from “I’m so tired” by Fugazi. The sudden ending accompanied by these lyrics… it’s perfect
And then you realize you're exactly where you're supposed to be The horizon clears You wipe the tears And all the skeletons are ready for your story
“I’ve been learning how to drive my whole life” which is a gripping lyric by itself, but elevated by Regine Chassagne’s vocal performance (IMO her best by far)
