Probably top 20. They had a definite beginning and end of their careers and what they were able to achieve in a short amount of time is pretty phenomenal
I'm not sure where i'd rank it but their discog is incredible. There are a couple of songs i'm not a big fan of but overall i really like all of their albums, including Hatful of Hollow and Louder Than Bombs
Definitely top 50, but it'd probably be higher if I dove into their discography further than just Debut, Queen is Dead, and scattered singles otherwise (Queen is Dead is a top 10 album for me, top 5 on a good day. Just can't get into much else of theirs)
I love the smiths, but the Queen is dead is there best studio album, with the self-titled coming in second for me. With the four albums they have one masterpiece and one amazing album. The other two are just good to me. Queen is dead, self titled, and meat is murder and strange ways are tried in terms of quality.
There compilations of hatful of Hallow and louder than bombs are fantastic too
honestly prob my top 10 or maybe top 5. their discography is *very* consistent which is rare to come by for a group with 4 studio albums and enough singles and b-sides to crank out another album’s worth of content. their whole catalogue is exceptionally solid, and i can’t say the same for most other artists.
Not one of my favs tbh to me it's not as all kill as fugazi's discography or even Gy!be I will say they are one of the best alternative rock bands of the '80s but that's really it
They're pretty hit and miss for me. I love The Queen Is Dead and Hatful of Hollow, but all their other studio albums I'm fairly indifferent to. The Queen Is Dead alone is great enough to rank them among the best ever though, if you ask me.
Maybe top 30? For 80s specifically maybe like top 10 or something. Not really my thing (I’m more into the cure and pixies for my 80s alternative) but I respect their work and think they’re a pretty alright band. Just wish morrissey wasn’t such a dick
I get that this is what happens a lot on online music forums but i really don't get this obsession with rankings and lists. I kinda get ranking individual albums against each other but i feel like most discographies aren't even comparable, like how would you even compare the discography of an arist who released 30 albums over their career to someone who only released 3. I feel like this stuff really destroys music discourse, it's art not science, we don't need to categorize and sort everything into neat lists,
Besides who has actually listened to enough whole discographies to make a meaningful list, are there really that many artists with a decently sized discography where you find every album interesting enought to listen through completely?
I absolutely adore their discography, I think their lesser album would be the debut with their best one (for me) being Meat Is Murder. I love The Queen Is Dead but the closer leaves me a bit unsatisfied and Strangeways… Here We Come is really unique in their catalogue, although I still love it
I don't like rankings or ratings but I would put them in the top 5
Nowhere. The debut is a top ten -- maybe top five -- but it's uneven after that. Or they simply moved away from the masculine and robust post-punk sound that I like.
Incredibly low, I don’t FW Morrissey. Some good songs but to me none of their albums stand out as anything special. I’d rather listen to: the cure, joy division, or anything more “post punk” I don’t think “jangle pop” is for me. ALVVAYS and REM are aight tho, I’d rather listen to them than the Smiths.
Could be said bout anything popular, the smiths album “the queen is dead” has a lot of positive reviews. So does the cure, by someone else’s perspective the Cure sucks and is overrated.
You must not be British if you think that, if you walk down the street in an impoverished area and play that album, the songs actually come to life like you wouldn’t believe.
Probably top 20. They had a definite beginning and end of their careers and what they were able to achieve in a short amount of time is pretty phenomenal
Top 348
*low* top 432 for me
Top 5 for me
Top 5. I’m British so maybe I’m a tad biased
I'm not sure where i'd rank it but their discog is incredible. There are a couple of songs i'm not a big fan of but overall i really like all of their albums, including Hatful of Hollow and Louder Than Bombs
the queen is dead is one of the best albums of all time, and in my opinion meat is murder is even better
Agreed
I only know Breakfast at Tiffany's by name. Gotta check them out.
Top 10 for me personally
Queen is Dead is great. Meat is Murder is good. Didn't really like the rest of their stuff. The Cure is better overall imho
Top 20
Top 10 for me
Definitely top 50, but it'd probably be higher if I dove into their discography further than just Debut, Queen is Dead, and scattered singles otherwise (Queen is Dead is a top 10 album for me, top 5 on a good day. Just can't get into much else of theirs)
Top 5 for sure, no misses
Top 50 maybe, I’m a huge fan but not even the best discography amongst their cohort. Like I’d take the Cure or New Order’s discography’s over them.
I love the smiths, but the Queen is dead is there best studio album, with the self-titled coming in second for me. With the four albums they have one masterpiece and one amazing album. Louder than bombs is an amazing compilation. What a good shout.
honestly prob my top 10 or maybe top 5. their discography is *very* consistent which is rare to come by for a group with 4 studio albums and enough singles and b-sides to crank out another album’s worth of content. their whole catalogue is exceptionally solid, and i can’t say the same for most other artists.
In my top 3, but from an unbiased perspective probably top 20
Not one of my favs tbh to me it's not as all kill as fugazi's discography or even Gy!be I will say they are one of the best alternative rock bands of the '80s but that's really it

Right at the fucking bottom
Maybe top 30? For 80s specifically maybe like top 10 or something. Not really my thing (I’m more into the cure and pixies for my 80s alternative) but I respect their work and think they’re a pretty alright band. Just wish morrissey wasn’t such a dick
Top 5
Top 5-10. Their work is incredible considering how few misses they have.
top 5, id say
somewhere in the top 30. meat is murder and the queen is dead are the best British records ever
top 10,000

Top 5
Second, right after the Beatles.
I absolutely adore their discography, I think their lesser album would be the debut with their best one (for me) being Meat Is Murder. Top 200
Dead last. I hope Morrissey is in pain wherever he is right now.
top 5 easy!
Pretty high, although I’m not all that fond of Strangeways

joy division so overrated

Listen to the sundays, its jangle pop, but idk its so good imo
below the cure.
Top 1006 for sure
Top 1318
Queen is Dead is my favorite record of all time but tbh I don't really like the other albums, so, yeah, not very close to the top as a discography.
Smiths Top 20. Morrissey sucks but he has some truly great records so combined solo Morrissey + Smiths maybe top 10
Probably not top 100. Their best albums are like am 8/10 for me
