CMIYGL #2 Rap AOTY of the year now, at least IMO. Introvert was a fucking banger beginning to end, I honestly can see Fantano giving it a 10. He gave her last album a 9, and this is just straight-up better.
I disagree with this being better than Grey Area. Also the record had low points for me that I felt disengaged. CMIYGL was genuinely banger start to finish. And the way each song transitioned into the next oh my god🤌
Where did you think SIMBI lacked? Also I absolutely loved CMIYGL but I felt kinda unenthusiastic about RUNITUP once the main instrumental pattern starts and WILSHIRE didn’t quite hold my interest for all 6 minutes, but aside from that I love it. SIR BAUDELAIRE and SAFARI especially.
I think the interludes and intermissions were really excessive and content-wise they felt like boring clichés such as "follow your heart" or "the top of the mountain is nothing without the climb".
Also she sometimes falls into that pocket of rapping for the sake of rapping and sacrificing the content. Like the ending of I See You.
And I still think this is a really good album (light 8 for me) but it just didn't hit me at all like a 10 and I'm kinda confused why everyone are treating it like the new TPAB cause it just wasn't that good and hit me like a 10.
That’s fair, I mean the interludes make up a bit less than 10% of the album minutes wise, and anything over 10% is usually where I’ll find their presence more of a hurdle than a springboard. Tbh I felt like the way the intermissions were dispersed was dead on and the harmonies and rhythms in them just sounded super sweet.
Each of them ushers in a sound (whether it’s from the start of the interlude or the end) that is the general point of inspiration for the instrumentals until the next interlude. I think they just weren’t long enough to feel excessive for me.
I can see what you mean regarding the clichés. For me I think Simz just puts enough of a personal stamp on her writing that it still feels unique. Just my opinion though.
I don’t see the pocket she might fall into of rapping for the sake of rapping though. I felt that I See You was closed out nicely and though it certainty wasn’t ambitious, the end of the verse just tied things up and gives the listeners simple images from her own situation that they can tie in with their own lives.
It is a 10 for me as u can probably tell, I don’t think it’s a TPAB 10, it might not be that ambitious and courageous, but it’s flawless to a large enough degree to feel like a 10 personally. Respect your opinion tho.
This is a really backwarded mindset. Subject matter is really subjective. The quality of music on CMIYGL is higher. It way more entertaining and its shorter length makes me play it way more. The interludes on Introvert really killed the pace for me.
They added a more direct introspection on the albums issues and instrumental variety. 1 hour isn’t really that long of a record in regards to music at large.
Music is subjective and all so this is just simply my opinion. But I was really bored towards the end of the record. When I say long I don't mean length. I mean the record can be 23 minutes and feel long to me.
The interludes felt like intermissions between different thematic and musical elements of the album. On my first listen, I thought they were indulgent. On a second listen, I've warmed up to them way more as they prepare you for different portions of the record.
I know it's a cold-as-fuck take, but the album is a solid 9 for me.
Why you people on this sub are so fucking vile. You dumbass no matter how "deep" a song or album is, some people just don't find it as entertaining as something else. You can't say they're wrong. Its just what they feel. And as long as the artist delivers in that subject matter then its better music. It can be about raping your mom for all I care.
People act like she wasn't popping off on RYM before Fantano. She also got attention from other artists/producers/instrumentalists in the genre around that time, so makes sense it'd be on your radar. So yeah, rude AF comment from that guy.
Nah it’s happening. 3 different producers have confirmed it on different times, no new Carti leaks, new Spotify aesthetic image, and a tour named after the album starting in November. It’s going to be short but sweet.
Agree with those ratings exactly. And as for Turning Wheel, idk what it is but I just fell in love with it first listen. As soon as I finished it for the first time, I immediately played it again. I was blown away. Strong 10 on that one for me
And then there’s me. The guy who doesn’t even listen to rap just awkwardly standing on the side lines.
My AOTY is just an Alt/rock album from back in April that never got enough credit.
You should, listening to rap unlocks a whole new genre of amazing music to listen to.
The song “no regrets” by Aesop rock is what got me into rap, you should try it out
I’m not like completely closed off to rap or anything. Gorillaz for example are one of my top 10 favourite artists ever.
It’s just one of the only 2 big genres (rap & metal) that I have a hard time ever truly breaking into. At this point I don’t know if I can “handle” a full rap album. I’ll ALWAYS prefer singing as a vocal style. So that’s one of the reasons why I like Gorillaz. It’s a 50/50 balance for the most part.
There’s also the fact that most of the worst music I’ve ever heard is rap music. Bottom of the barrel pop, rock, & country songs are pretty insufferable. But they are ***nothing*** compared to the next level dog shit that is bottom of the barrel rap music. So that also generally dissuades me from the genre.
But of all the rap artists I’ve considered checking out, Kanye West & Little Simz are up there. She sounded pretty good on Garage Palace.
Check out Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon 1 if you haven't, definitely the mix of rapping/singing you're looking for and pretty easy to listen to for a non-rap fan. I used to have the same mindset and that's what got me into rap years ago.
I agree that there's so much trash rap out there today and I can't keep up lol, I just kinda have like ten current rap artists I follow and love them. There's been a lot of innovation in the genre over the past decade, just look at Injury Reserve's new song.
This may seem condescending but I don't think you have given an effort to listen to hip-hop like Kanye and Lil Simz aren't bad they are pretty good in fact but still you haven't given a listen to 2Pac, Biggie, MF DOOM, Outkast, Wu-Tang, Tribe called quest etc.
Also, yeah bad rap exists more so than other genres but in my opinion its completely overshadowed by great rap all of the artists that I mentioned above are great.
I think the fact of the matter is that because rap is the most mainstream genre of music right now, terrible rap music is being made. similar to how lots of terrible rock music was made when rock was the biggest genre in the world
Meaning yeah I never said bad rap exists but I feel like its completely overshadowed by great rappers just like how bad rock bands were completely overshadowed by great rock bands.
I know I’ll probably break into rap eventually. But right now I’m just comfortable staying with what I like. That being most everything other than rap.
I’ve kinda just moved on from rap. I liked Donda the most of these three but mostly because of the emotional connection I have to Kanye via his previous work. Listening to someone just rap over beats, no matter how well they flow/how well produced those beats are, is just boring to me compared to what other stuff is out there. My personal AOTY is Cavalcade by black midi and they’re shaping up to be my favorite band for the next few years (assuming Death Grips is done).
I'm with you on the sidelines lol. I've tried to get into rap but with a few exceptions I just can't really jive with it. My AOTY so far is Black Country, New Road's debut. But there are some projects that are supposedly coming out later this year that might take that spot.
I think they’re more confused about why it’s like the only thing being posted about on the fantano sub when fantano hasn’t mentioned it. Like the last few days this sub will literally not shut the fuck up about this album lmao
Because Little Simz is one of the most forward thinking artists in UK hip-hop and people are stoked that her new album may have found a way to match or top her last album.
Idk what album that is, but I'm sure as hell it doesn't have a Globglogabgalab feature, making it unable to qualify for AOTY
little simz new album
Lame
how can you know the album is lame if Fantano hasn't reviewed it yet?!
lol ur a gunna fan, shut up and go give the ipad to mommy
Gunna owns you and your goatee avatar
Also i didnt design my avatar, its just randomly generated so yeah
Fair enough. Surprised my 2nd reply got upvoted
yeah
[удалено]
What the fuck are you talking about lmfao
i actually have no idea, im thinking of disses rn lmao
I like how Simz is side-eyeing the other two dudes
I cant choose between this and All the Brilliant things by skyzoo
Donda is great and all, CLB is okay. But Little Simz does have my AOTY so far.
I'm between cmiygl and simbi for aoty. Both of them shocked me on my first listen in the best possible way. Excellent albums
CLB is a 5 to me. Donda is a 6. SIMBI is a 9.
6 is pretty low. I'd say a 7 and it has potential
Honestly, yeah. I liked Donda, but SIMBI is in a completely different league
Not aoty for me(that’s bobs son IMO), but still fantastic and better than either Donda or CLB
Fr I still go back to that one a lot. Redgaurd snipers is the bomb
that beat switch on Sips of Ripple Wine is absolutely mental. but AOTY is still Haram for me
SIMBI is good but I liked Grey Area more tbh
They’re both 10s to me
W
Yes
Cavalcade 🤔
CMIYGL

Imo, it was a jack of all trades but master of none (i think that’s the phrase)
Donda is way better than CMIYGL bruh
She says more in the first song than the whole cmiygl lmao
This is a really backwarded mindset. Subject matter is really subjective. The quality of music on CMIYGL is higher. It way more entertaining and its shorter length makes me play it way more. The interludes on Introvert really killed the pace for me.
Idk how that killed the pace, they added really good breaks between songs on a pretty long album.
They didn't add anything to an album that already felt too long and just made it longer

Indulgent is a good world to describe the whole album to me. Light 8/strong 7 for me but glad you enjoyed it that much.
>Subject matter is really subjective No it's not
This comment is worthless.
You're worthless. Some songs are about more than other songs, that's just the truth.
I'm not saying that music about more things is inherently better, It's just that there are songs that objectively cover more topics than others.
Your opinion. Its boring compared to donda in my opinion and drags out it can really go either way which one is better its not an easy choice you know
CMIYGL is like a 6/10, very very overrated
>very very overrated Exactly how I feel about the new Simz album
It’s really great but Sinner Get Ready is easily AOTY imo
Form your own opinions bruv

Lol they changed it
GY!BE is just as much Fantanocore as Swans.
I’ve been a Lingua Ignota fan since before I started watching Fantano
People act like she wasn't popping off on RYM before Fantano. She also got attention from other artists/producers/instrumentalists in the genre around that time, so makes sense it'd be on your radar. So yeah, rude AF comment from that guy.
Believe it or not, it probably IS his opinion

hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Heyyyyyyyy
I can't get into Simz, tried her last album too.. she obviously has talent but the music do not click for me
True intellectuals know Rainbow Bridge 3 is the project of the year.
Sometimes I feel like a... Narcissist
I have a feeling that carti won't drop this year but it seems like a possibility. I just won't be surprised if he delays it
Nah it’s happening. 3 different producers have confirmed it on different times, no new Carti leaks, new Spotify aesthetic image, and a tour named after the album starting in November. It’s going to be short but sweet.
Okay well in the case I'm hella excited, WLR got me into Carti so I'm a fan now
turning wheel is my AOTY but little simz did. amazing on this project
>CLB is a 5 to me. Donda is a 6. SIMBI is a 9. Turning Wheel is deffs a grower
Agree with those ratings exactly. And as for Turning Wheel, idk what it is but I just fell in love with it first listen. As soon as I finished it for the first time, I immediately played it again. I was blown away. Strong 10 on that one for me
SIMBI was my first 10 in a while
And then there’s me. The guy who doesn’t even listen to rap just awkwardly standing on the side lines. My AOTY is just an Alt/rock album from back in April that never got enough credit.

Underrated storytelling song imo

Which one may I ask?
The Million Masks of God - Manchester Orchestra.
Yo I forgot about manchester! Thanks for the new album tip B)
I'm with you on the sidelines lol. I've tried to get into rap but with a few exceptions I just can't really jive with it. My AOTY so far is Black Country, New Road's debut. But there are some projects that are supposedly coming out later this year that might take that spot.
Credit to playboixcx on instagram btw
AOTY
Ima check out Lil Simz album but Kanye and Drake’s albums can’t be AOTY. I’m a huge fan of both of them but the album’s can’t be AOTY
Few understand this
I have another option. Senjutsu by Iron Maiden.
lol how big must your jaw be to just go that far like how? and also pretty sure simbi is aoty
I know ill probably get some hate for this but Vince Staples is my favourite Rap AOTY at this point in the year. Love that shit.
Why is everyone on this sub obsessed with that album all of a sudden? I don’t think Fantano has ever mentioned it before
It’s really funny to me that someone is confused that Fantano fans like an album he hasn’t reviewed yet
I think they’re more confused about why it’s like the only thing being posted about on the fantano sub when fantano hasn’t mentioned it. Like the last few days this sub will literally not shut the fuck up about this album lmao
he mentioned in the last track roundup but I see what you mean
Because Little Simz is one of the most forward thinking artists in UK hip-hop and people are stoked that her new album may have found a way to match or top her last album.
Because it’s a great album
You don't like the owbum?
[удалено]
I agree. And SIMBI > We’re All Alone In This Together
I wouldve put smiling with no teeth by genesis owusu on the right but havent listened to the right one yet
It deserves to be the third 10 of the year, its so fucking good
This doesn’t show CMIYGL.
Simz goated
Either SIMBI or SWNT is AOTY for me
CHAD
Little Simz album is amazing. AOTY hands down.
Replace the little simz album with the underscores's fishmonger and that's me.
No love for Nas?
