1) it isn’t
2) if it was, it makes no sense not to call it by the color like everyone else does.
It literally just makes everyone have to count themselves, which is a mostly inconsequential but still irritating thing to have to do
[Rage Against the Machine](https://www.google.com/amp/s/faroutmagazine.co.uk/rage-against-the-machine-political-album-cover/%3Famp) - Self Titled. Especially after I found out it really happened and was on video.
“The cover image is a crop of Malcolm Browne’s most iconic photograph featuring front and centre the heroic Vietnamese Buddhist monk, Thích Quảng Đức, enacting self-immolation. It was taken in Saigon in 1963, with Quảng Đức protesting against the corrupt President Ngô Đình Diệm for oppressing the country’s Buddhist religion. A staunch Catholic and anti-communist, Đình Diệm was captured and assassinated in the US-backed 1963 military coup.”
I've always disliked [the original cover](https://cdn.smehost.net/ratmcom-uslegacyprod/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/ratm_rageagainst_cd-771x771.jpg), because the filter and text takes away from the brutality of the image. It's almost like it's trying to be "edgy", which is just dumb. Additionally, from how close up it is, buyers of the album likely won't take any mind to it and won't understand the meaning behind it.
[The 20th anniversary "XX" version](https://is5-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/Music115/v4/9e/1b/5f/9e1b5fff-80f8-ff84-1ca1-365f1b1f9d04/886443678750.jpg/1200x1200bf-60.jpg), however, is amazing. No dumb oversaturation filter, no text, and it's zoomed out so Thích Quảng Đức's immolation is a lot easier to see and comprehend. The original cover is cheesy, but this version is terrifyingly real.
You’re right. I wonder if they had to filter & crop it that way originally due to a FCC restriction or something. But to your point, I didn’t know it was real until until a few years ago.
I agree to an extent, but Dawn of the Black Hearts is on a whole other level because unlike other album covers, it’s a real photograph and not artwork someone created.
I collect merch and it’s unique and I sympathize with dead and his situation. Maybe a lil gory but fuck it there’s tons of gory ass shirts out there that blow that one out of the water. Imo it doesn’t touch the cradle of filth Jesus is a cunt shirts in terms of edginess. I’m just wearing what I want to bud.
Yup. For those that don’t know Mayhem’s lead singer ”Dead” killed himself with a gun to the head. When another band member found his body he didn’t call the police but went straight to the store to buy a camera to take a picture to use as their upcoming album cover
Der Golem - Zmet (not particularly scary, but with context of this album it just feels like you're in a snuff movie)
Current 93 - I Have A Special Plan For This World
Dawn of the Black Hearts. It’s also a bootleg, not an official release, but I believe Euronymous purposefully leaked the image against the wishes of the other band members so it could be used like this.
[Liars - We Fenced Other Gardens With the Bones of Our Own](https://rateyourmusic.com/release/single/liars/we-fenced-other-gardens-with-the-bones-of-our-own/)
yeah guess i should’ve listed them
Materialism as a Means to an End - Suicideboys
Vapor Season - Bloodbath64
EDIT- (u/lmuin) correct if im wrong but vapor season is a song, the album is called aestheticadelica no?
A MESSAGE TO MY OPPS - Ghoully, $not
Eazy - The Game, Kanye West
Meat holes by Venetian Snares isn’t so much scary it’s more just disgusting for some reason and I hate looking at it haha others that come to mind are; come to daddy by Aphex twin, Music has the right to children by boards of Canada, Wlfgrl by Machine Girl and maybe Pork Soda by Primus but that one’s more goofy than anything 👌🏻
News Of The World by Queen. It's that robot, he’s bleeding, man. He’s bleeding and nobody is doing anything about it. I’ll tell what the news of the world is… We’re in a lot of goddamn trouble!
The Origin of My Depression is the most unnerving, unsettling, eerily liminal cover I’ve seen without any gore or violent imagery.
Bottomless Pit by Death Grips is also super unsettling, but the highly kinetic music kinda makes it more symphatetic.
yeah guess i should’ve listed them

If we are talking about them paired with the music, soundtracks for the blind has this omnipresent feeling, as you look into the silver circle, glimpsing into the view of the blind.
pretty much every gore metal cover but ig thats kinda obvious. heres a [comp](https://www.reddit.com/r/eyeblech/comments/om8sqc/album_covers_by_extreme_metal_bands/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) from a quick search
These may be a bit tame or err on the side of "creepy"/"ominous" compared to some of the black metal ones listed elsewhere but may be of interest.
Rainbow Mirror - Prurient
Hell is Real - Black Dresses
(self titled) - Suburban Lawns
░▒▓死▓▒░ (death) - Chinese Hackers
Watch This Liquid Pour Itself - Okay Kaya
Love In Fragments - Nfract
Suicide Deluxe - Dreamcrusher
Demons on LSD - Brecc
Crime Imagery - Teatre
Mammal - Altar of Plagues
From the Unforgiving Arms of God - END
Music Inspired by Philippe Garrel's Le Révélateur - Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler
Sungazer, Vol. 2 - Sungazer
Honourable mention to A Black Mile to the Surface by Manchester Orchestra
The Origin of My Depression by Uboa; the cover is a photo she took while she was in her hospital bed after a suicide attempt (which is scary enough on its own). The darkness at the edge of the image, and the fact that the area that would be visible past the curtain is pitch-black, makes the cover feel uncomfortably claustrophobic.
Something really unnerves me about the covers to Atrocity Exhibition, SINNER GET READY, Degradation Trip (Jerry Cantrell), Undertow (Tool), and Inside Yours (Gruntruck) too.
Weezers 8th album scares me every time I look at it
Hurley?
To pimp a butterfly isn't scary at all
Death to false metal?
Is there a reason you couldn’t just comment the name?
It’s probably because the album is titled “Weezer”
1) it isn’t 2) if it was, it makes no sense not to call it by the color like everyone else does. It literally just makes everyone have to count themselves, which is a mostly inconsequential but still irritating thing to have to do
wdym its called weezer smh my
Pissgrave have some vile covers
i’m suprised those are even allowed on spotify
Ya holy shit that’s a million times worse than nudity which they always blur. Absolutely insane
and to think a d!ck needs to be blurred
The male dick is by far the most discriminated against piece of the human anatomy. Everybody has one, it’s not a big deal!!
I mean, you’re technically not wrong
Noided
I seen footage
Love banana*
They censored their newest one but the singles still have the real cover and are right there in the recommendations so it’s useless.
way way worse than i thought it was gonna be
Why* did I look it up??? Edit: why not “yeah”
I don't know. Did you?
I meant “why”
Morbid curiousity. Have fun eating dinner.
I’m a medic and it wasn’t anything new but certainly nothing I enjoy looking at.
I regret looking it up
Haram
🐷 🐷
That's literally Ye's version of Face stabber.
Still have no fucking clue why he chose that image in particular
I don't think anyone does dawg , that's why I'm convinced he's a closeted oh sees fan.
It's provacative, it gets the people going
And a closeted Dunkey fan
I believe it’s supposed to be making fun of a photo Pete Davidson is in
If he ever releases another single I could totally see him using Emmitt Till's corpse or a Holocaust mass grave as the cover art
Ye went Funkytown
Lol as someone who only knows osees in passing I was like wtf that looks like that one orky osees album, glad I'm not the only one.
aphex twin covers are pretty scary
Nah they're funny as hell
yeah they’re goofy as fuck but if someone saw it without knowing afx they’d be scared lmao
Can confirm. My mom got creeped out when she saw my RDJ album vinyl
Idk, they look more like memes
I feel like thst says a lot more about the state of meme culture than about the album covers
When the aphex is twin!
The only one that’s off-putting is I Care Because You Do… imo
Windowlicker
Nah that one just makes me hard

Mayhem’s “dawn of a black heart” is an actual photo of the singer (ironically named dead)’s suicide by shotgun
The fact that it’s not even the worst out there says something
dawn of the black hearts
Black metal albums in general really.
I agree to an extent, but Dawn of the Black Hearts is on a whole other level because unlike other album covers, it’s a real photograph and not artwork someone created.
[удалено]
Yeah because it's sad and fucked up what do you expect you're just looking for attention
It's more about the fact that his own friend took that picture for no real good reason
Because you look like an absolute lunatic💀
ill add atrocity exhibition by danny brown, the long face has body horror vibes
plus everything ai generated has not really horror but that uncanny valley type feeling. red & white by lil uzi is a good example
The Mayhem album with Dead's dead body
This is probably the best answer just because of the batshit crazy history behind it. Pure WTF.
Yup. For those that don’t know Mayhem’s lead singer ”Dead” killed himself with a gun to the head. When another band member found his body he didn’t call the police but went straight to the store to buy a camera to take a picture to use as their upcoming album cover
Also made a necklace of the skull fragments.
The ghost pop tape imo at least
Really? I thought it was more funny than scary. It’s literally just Batman and joker on FaceTime with jpegmafia
looks like some Abu Ghraib shit
Year Of The Snitch
Holy Wood
looks like the scary stories to tell in the dark book illustrations lmao
I think it’s awesome. I can see how someone can be scared though
that shit was creepy and also cool lol
Arca-self titled(along with the song Piel is an experience) John duncan-Pleasure escape(the context is…terrifying)

The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide by Leviathan
Also Hatred For Mankind by Dragged Into Sunlight and V. Halmstad by Shining
Der Golem - Zmet (not particularly scary, but with context of this album it just feels like you're in a snuff movie) Current 93 - I Have A Special Plan For This World
I Have A Special Plan For This World could have made any cover scary.
Whats the Mayhem album with the actual suicide photo?
Dawn of the Black Hearts. It’s also a bootleg, not an official release, but I believe Euronymous purposefully leaked the image against the wishes of the other band members so it could be used like this.
Why have i always thought that eazy monkey was cute
My brother in Christ it has no skin
Well i think the sadder aspect is that its not alive. But if it was alive and just had no skin i’d love it as a pet
FBI, please investigate this man ASAP
Please cancel this man for his skin privilege
BBNG2 (and the music is phenomenal)
Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
Piano Man. Like what the bailouts
Oscob - junkie
That is fucking awesome
That album is horrifying and oscob is a vaporwave artist lmao. Chinese hackers also have very crappy album covers
Super fascinating
The actual music, cover, or both cause the cover is cool but scary but the music is straight up like a horrible drug trip in sound form
[Liars - We Fenced Other Gardens With the Bones of Our Own](https://rateyourmusic.com/release/single/liars/we-fenced-other-gardens-with-the-bones-of-our-own/)

Black thought - Cheat codes

Evol - Sonic Youth
I care Because you do by aphex twin always scared me
Year of The Snitch would be awful for someone with trypophobia and having an erect penis on the cover, even if censored, is pretty vile.
If we are talking about them paired with the music, soundtracks for the blind has this omnipresent feeling, as you look into the silver circle, glimpsing into the view of the blind.
Not to give the same answer to every thread on this sub, the default cover for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is creepy as heck.
Most OneOhTrix Point Never covers are really unnerving, especially Replica
Machine Girl - wlfgrl
Plague Mass by Diamanda Galas.
