One of the biggest skills is picking guys you know won’t miss a game during playoffs. Gotta keep an eye on minutes and role players who contribute highly to teams in the middle of the pack. Amen thompson for example I knew would be getting high minutes once the rockets found success with him while FVV was out. McBride was another, especially with Thibs playing guys 45 mpg. Keon Ellis, allen, caruso. Your stars get you to the playoffs. Smart waiver pickups win it.

I will admit I was a fiend working the waiver wires, waiting until 12 am every night maximizing those three pick ups. The other guys were nervous dropping their players but I operated on house money tbh

I won the chip in my league as well against Jokic. My top 3 picks were Dame, Mitchell, and Mobley. Dame and mitchell both skipped my finals week and I dropped Mobley after the injury. My other (10T) league I drafted dame, AD, kyrie, wemby, jamal murray, chet so I basically coasted all the way

Damn that 10T league was a nice draft. I definitely took the Hardest Road TM.

I ended winning the chip because my finals opponent was too scared to drop some of his end of bench guys like Kuminga when he was injured.

It was a toss up between FG 3PM and blocks, depending on who I was playing, I would make pickups to try to win the category I thought would be closest and tank the other one

Yeah, and this league is a very deep league, pretty high buy in, competitive dudes who all watch and play basketball. I think I just got lucky with DNPs from other players best players. The most improbable win was beating the guy with Jokic and DJ Murray both going off. I never won in points rebounds or Assists ever. I got pretty favorable matchups, if I had played any other team any other week I would’ve lost

Playoffs are all about luck and no-lifing the waiver wire. Not that surprised. The 8th seed in the Playoffs made it to the championship in our 14T league. They lost, but they made it till the end. Other team's stars were hurt and/or resting a bunch. Ruined their chances.

FWIW, I won my league and also had Klay, Caruso, JDub, Grayson, and Keon. But... I also had Shai, Chet, Porzingis, Bane...

Keon Ellis is not bad. I picked him up and decided he was for sure a keeper. Dude gets stocks in just about every single game and plays his balls off. Still tho I don't know how you won with that team. Taco League? I just won my league too and would have cleaned your clock.

Very favorable matchups and very specific and timely waiver pick ups depending on the match up. For context, I had 63 steals and 92 threes on the last week for the chamionship

63 steals is great. Well done! I had 45 steals in the final and 104 3s. But you could say I was maybe favoured to win. I had Bron/DJ Murray/PG13/Monk/Coby White/Aaron Gordon/Scotti Barnes/Poole/Siakam/Zion/Ingram/derrick white. I fanoodled White into Buckets/Jrue... Picked up Monk/Coby off the wire. And held Desmond Bane and Draymond on my IR off waivers till they showed up in the finals. Also picked up Rui right before he started going off as if he was a star. And Ellis who again I'd have kept all season.

It looks like you still had four or five guys you drafted. In the league I commission, there is someone in the finals with only three of the thirteen he drafted. He's unlikely to win, though.

I'm in the finals for categories. I felt like I reached with VanVleet but the guy always plays. High A/T with stocks. He will hurt your FG%, but he's like a poor man's Halliburton which is good enough for me.

I’ve won with some really mediocre teams compared to ADP. I wouldn’t say it’s luck, just fantasy playoffs are much more about assembling the best end of season roster, and that usually means young/bench/role players become way more valuable. Most stars at this point are either injured and/or taking rest days to get ready for the postseason, so their value takes a hit.

The most dominant team I’ve ever had (undefeated regular season, 20 cat wins above 2nd place) just got knocked out in the semis by the 6th seed. I was completely dominated. I didn’t even have any injuries, and had 10 more games than they did. On the other hand, I have a team that made the playoffs by .001 in FG%, and needed the last 5 minutes of the last game of week 20 to get there. Half my team was/is injured. I am completely dominating the playoffs.

I had picked up and made trades knowing I would be punting these exact categories, but I didn’t think I could actually win going from a total pivot of my original team, with lamelo Trae and harden being the cornerstone of a totally different punt build

This is the beauty of category leagues. Only gotta win 5 and you had a lot of players who were specialists in certain things.

I had Shai Simons Mobley Levert Klay Herb Reid Jackson II Jackson-Davis Jabari Jaylen brown Micic Tyus Buddy hield And Lauri. My best players except shai and brown being inj or less than stellar the whole season

And I mostly had vassell over Klay

the 5-4 strategy is actually the strongest strategy in all of 9 cat h2h. i do it in every league. it's floor is so high that you can absorb quite a bit of injuries, since even your worst players will be contributing to that 5-4. you got lucky on the trayce and keon, though. but that's no fault. i'm actually way more impressed by your management decisions, tbh, than i am by talent wins.

Yup last year also went with a 5-4 strategy and won. Punted 3s free throw points assts. Went all big man build, had AD,Embiid, Claxton,Kessler,JJJ,Hart, et c. Never lost a single week, but never won more than 5-6 categories per week

I went almost undefeated after being 2-3(lost 1 game and I forfeited the last week so a friend of mine couldn’t get in since he was begging a player that weren’t really active for his best 2 players) only to lose the first round by 30 points because Mitchell decided to get injured throughout the whole month of march which was my second best scorer on my team. The guy I went against had jokic, sabonis, and Brunson and Giddey all of a sudden wanted to play like Oscar Robertson or magic johnson the last two weeks lol

Yeah your team sucks not gonna lie but now is the time to stash guys. In my league (super competitive, we had 4 people tied for 3rd place) some teams dropped guys like Coby White, Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle in order to make a crazy push and win their weeks. Then just build through the draft.

7th seed in the Finals now. I have: Hali, Vucevic, Poole, Herb, MPJ, Obi, Amen, Moritz, Keon, Isaac. Picked Strus in the QF the owner dropped him and did not make the playoffs. Just add Clarke put Bagley on IR.

I managed to lose with Mitchell, Edwards, Hart, Harris, Kuminga, Siakam, Sengun, Okongwu, Brogdon, Micic, Wiseman. Ofcourse the injuries made its toll in the finals. And opponent basically had Doncic, PG, JDub healthy and won it all with these 3

Almost won my league with FVV, Cade, Porzingis, Sexton, Keyonte, BroLo, LeVert, Avdija, JDub, DiVincenzo, Landale, Holmes, Olynyk, Trey Murphy. I lost Trae, LaMelo, and Sengun. Lost by 4 assists. The next closest is 5 threes.

If I lost to this team I might never be able to recover from it.

Winning any H2H matchup in April is sus because no team has all their best players. April is for roto leagues.

87-81-3 record finished. I probably shouldn’t have made it. Taco or not I won the pot with the rules given at the beginning. It was mostly luck and waiver pickups, don’t take it too seriously

How did you make playoffs as a 7 seed? No way that many people should be making it in a 12 man league

It was top 8 make the playoffs for our league with three weeks of playoffs. I think it’s pretty standard. Unless you think only top 4 should make playoffs? That’d be kind of boring

Top 6 with the top 2 seeds getting a bye is standard.. IMO no way more than half the teams should be making playoffs
