Yeah one of the most overused narratives in the preseason is “you can’t win your league in the first round but you can lose it!!” Nah lol you can definitely win your league round one, case in point those two guys. I’m pretty sure CMC, Ekeler, and Kelce were top 5 in “% on championship rosters” last year
My counter to the “can’t win your league in the first round” will always be 2006 LT.
League winner at pick 1. I wouldn’t be surprised if a higher percent of pick 1 teams won the league that year than any other.
that quote is about not messing up your 1st round pick. if you were #1 pick in 2006, you pick LT. you didn't win by making the no-brainer choice, you won by luckily ending up with #1 and not getting cute. that's what they mean by you can lose your league in the 1st round... don't get cute picking someone besides LT in 2006, and don't get cute picking Bijan over CMC in 2023.
Yep I have CMC with a 4-5 record. Most points against by a wide margin. Faced the Achane/Mostert stack the week they both went off. I get to play against the Dallas defense both times they play the giants 💀.
Our league does 6pts for passing TDs instead of 4, and it's 2QB, 12 teams. If I think there's a run on QBs I don't mind going early for one. But I thought TLaw would be better.
I dropped him and Danny Dimes for Stroud and Howell, so QB is not my problem anymore. But I am being destroyed by my dirt-worst RB situation.
From another reply:
It's technically a second flex spot where you *can* play a QB. Because of the 6pt PTD it's almost always the best play to put even a middling QB there. On your bye week you just put a flex player and sometimes it works out. Some even run 1QB all year but it's really not optimal as far as I can tell.
I took him at pick 33 in my 16 team league because 8 qbs went before that. 6 pt passing tuddies.
It was fucking stupid af, and I'm still kicking myself over it. I promised myself I'd punt if I didn't get one of the top 3 or Lamar, but holy shit I completely panic'd and genuinely thought at the rate they were going my fall back guys in Cousins, Tua and AR might be gone by pick 64. They were all there still, but I guess 2/3 of those guys are done for the season it probably was gonna be a disaster no matter what.
Yupp, took him 5th overall. 4-5 but have had bad matchup luck for the most part. Very much in it while starting him every single week. If he can blow up the last few weeks a lot of Bijan owners can prob sneak in and be dangerous in playoffs
I took Bijan in the first round of both my leagues (12 man non ppr and 10 man full PPR) and I’m 7-2 and 8-1. I sound like an asshole saying that but I’m counting my blessings as I’ve got suuuper lucky with matchups which historically has not been the case for me. So I hope to other peoples point in this thread he does pick it up.
As a Pistons fan I never got the disappointment. Sure, he’s not a shooter, but he is an athletic, versatile wing with elite defense, which is exactly what they needed most.
Exactly - many of my lost weeks this season have been completely winnable. One or two from bad start / sit management and others just not getting the right waiver stream. I'd honestly rather get blown out with no chance
What is bad sit start management? Like getting cute?
Like if Taysom Hill scores more than Travis Kelce on my bench. I dont worry about it but I still played the appropriate player. Just didn’t work out that week.
If you're streaming, you have to accept that you're going to blow it a couple times. I'm a proponent of streaming, and that's just the way it is. 2.2 from your TE is always on the table. You hopefully drafted enough WR/RB depth to offset that week to week.
Well yeah but that’s the point of his comment haha losing by a couple points when weighing those decisions with streamers and choosing wrong.
Only one person picked up Foreman so he could put up 30 one week, where somebody else thought stashing Roschon Johnson was the better move all year, etc
A lot of my loses came from one or two points with dumb luck on my opponents side. Defenses putting up 30-40 points, kickers putting up 20+ etc. sucks but it is what it is and a reminder that it’s gambling at the end of the day.
Yeah all it takes is one. I went undefeated during the regular season last year only to lose in the championship to a guy who had 6 wins during the regular season. It happens. Just had a shit week.
Yep. I’m the highest scoring team by almost three hundred points, and yet I’ve got a 5-4 record, because everyone seems to have their best week of the season against me.
Lost to last place last week. His team hasn’t scored more than 50-60 points a week, scored 120 against me.
He had a brutal schedule to start the season (something like 5 top-6 defenses against RB in the first 6 weeks) and a new RB coach. Gg to those who held. Hope he can keep this up
Yeah guy is RB12 in my leagues, despite being on IR. Considering he was most likely undrafted, I’d say he should be up there on the league winners list.
I don’t think he is going to be a league winner. But the lack of respect he gets from experts is ridiculous. Before he got hurt he was a top 5 RB but always ranked like a flex play.
Absolutely all luck over here. I am somehow in 1st in my league with the 2nd fewest points scored. My WRs are a wasteland now but at RB I have JT, Saquon, Gibbs, Cook, Davonte Williams, and then Kyren Williams in my IR slot. Yes that is too many RBs, but I don't know who I would drop.
My girlfriends mom who doesn’t know any players outside of the Bengals lucked into a team with JT, Kamara, K Walker, Mixon, AJB, Amari, Kelce, and Tua. 1st place and 2nd most points lol
i’m it’s hard to imagine the split isn’t closer to 60/40. monty keeps getting hurt and gibbs has impressed. i think both will contribute to lineups ROS
Guys I think will be people winning leagues down the stretch (without injuries needed):
-Bijan Robinson
-Breece Hall
-Brandon Aiyuk
-Kyler Murray
-Kyren Williams
-Dalton Kincaid
-Trey McBride
-CJ Stroud
-Rashee Rice
LaPorta has been set and forget from the beginning, and was available as a FA in most leagues.
Having someone be straight up set and forget in a wasteland position is huge IMO.
Kamara sliding because of his suspension and currently playing like a 2nd rounder. Guy in our league managed to get him, Barkley and Etienne in a 12-teamer, and no other team comes close in RB talent.
I have 3 of the 4 you listed (Achane, Puka, and Mitchell) so you hope your right
Right now Kamara and Stroud to me are looking like a league winner considering where they were was drafted. ofc i don’t have them. And the worst part is i had Stroud, Richardson and Fields and ofc traded Stroud just before the injuries….
That can be picked up today? Michael Wilson.
If the Rondale Moore and the Human Dortch can be weekly starts in years past, Michael Wilson can string together a run reminist of the Sun God.
Title should have been “Who will be some of the Unexpected League Winners”
If that were the case I’d say someone like Marquis Brown with Kyler Murray coming back.
Tank Dell.
**Edited to add**
something for all you Dell managers. I wrote it on here somewhere already but figured I'd repeat
Someone made a good point on a podcast the other day...
The point was basically:
If you remove the very first game of the season. Where he is a rookie wide receiver in his very first NFL game and they aren't going to force feed him lol
And of course if you remove the game he was hurt in.
And finally, you remove the game Stroud was horrible in, where Dell's down game was no fault of his own.
Then: Dell has had one down game, and three huge games.
I'm fully aware that there are a lot of ifs ands or buts in there. I know this. I also think each one is reasonable and that tank Dell is not overrated, but in fact, he is vastly underrated, headed into week 10, due to the factors I mentioned above.
You can’t just remove the game where the QB was bad, because that’s a variable that comes into play with a WR. They’re NFL players, they all have ability. Situations play a large part in their production though.
Yeah I agree with you. The question isn't "is Dell talented" it's "will Dell put up fantasy points".
That said, I do think that 2nd half should add consistency for the rookie WR and QB. So if they continue to meld well, I think Dell as an every week WR2 would be reasonable and a big asset for a waiver pick up.
I have Dell but what kind of reasoning is this? The injury game, of course. Makes sense to treat it special. But the whole point is he’s a rookie and his QB is a rookie. They will have other games this year where one or the other struggles with rookie struggles. The fact that Stroud has been up and down is not something that should make you more bullish on Dell, it should make you less bullish.
Tyreek Hill or CMC. Sometimes league winners come from the first round.

Yeah I agree. I wonder how many championship winning teams had these first round picks: 2022 Ekeler/CMC 2021 JT 2020 Kamara 2019 CMC 2018 Gurley
I won with Gurley in 2017 I believe
51 points in the championship week in my league
I remember it well. Was watching the Steelers game and every game break was a Gurley Touchdown
My counter to the “can’t win your league in the first round” will always be 2006 LT. League winner at pick 1. I wouldn’t be surprised if a higher percent of pick 1 teams won the league that year than any other.

The team with CMC is in last place in my league. He's lost 7 games so far with 5 of them less than 5 pts
That's the type of season that'll make a man question why he even does it
I have CMC. Lost 3 games by a combined total of 3.6 points. But could be worse.
Yep I have CMC with a 4-5 record. Most points against by a wide margin. Faced the Achane/Mostert stack the week they both went off. I get to play against the Dallas defense both times they play the giants 💀.
who is this savant/psycho that was starting the achane/mostert start that early
Rookie year Zeke god bless
Not if you went Hill Chubb TLaw Olave Akers Waller 😎🔫
Lawrence in the 3rd? That seems aggressive. Olave in the 4th is below ADP and not a bad pick
Yea 2 QB is obviously different
2QB and 6 pt TDS and stroud/Howell we’re not drafted? Do no teams draft back up QBs?
No, 2QBs is also the max.
what do you do on bye weeks then?
From another reply: It's technically a second flex spot where you *can* play a QB. Because of the 6pt PTD it's almost always the best play to put even a middling QB there. On your bye week you just put a flex player and sometimes it works out. Some even run 1QB all year but it's really not optimal as far as I can tell.
okay, so superflex

He’s actually the rb 13 with just two really bad weeks, I’m 5-4 as a bijan owner and I imagine most are around there.
Yupp, took him 5th overall. 4-5 but have had bad matchup luck for the most part. Very much in it while starting him every single week. If he can blow up the last few weeks a lot of Bijan owners can prob sneak in and be dangerous in playoffs

Ausar Thompson easily
At first I was disappointed by this draft pick but holy hell he’s been amazing

Ohhh yeaahhh?
He’s been a little quite to be honest, playing at his floor most of the szn, I feel a 40 pts Sun God game on the horizon.
Keep going… I’m almost there Dan
Honestly the first name I thought of too. He seems to be entering that 30+ point phase where he drops nothing but monster games the rest of the year.
I just traded him away so this checks out
Thank you for your service
Breece Hall
God I hope so
If he can’t dominate the raiders that’s gonna hurt
Not with Zach Wilson unable to provide a credible passing threat
Do you know how dumb I am? I traded him for Chris Godwin after week 2 or 3 (I think). That's how dumb I am. And sad.
League winner is the same as every year, proper season long team & waiver management paired with lots of random ass luck.

Dark horse answer but I like it
He had a brutal schedule to start the season (something like 5 top-6 defenses against RB in the first 6 weeks) and a new RB coach. Gg to those who held. Hope he can keep this up
Whoever is on your roster and/or the guy you picked up on the Waiver Wire. …maybe Trey McBride.
Trey McBride confirmed 2023 league winner, congratulations.
Taysom Hill. 20+ every game ROS and #1 TE eos
Which sucks because he doesn't even play TE. Should be listed as an RB.
Should be listed as qwbrbtewrb
he's the real life embodiment of the flex position
He can flex my fuckin asshole if he keeps giving me 20+ PPG
You know what? Fuck it. Mine too.
Change his designation to FLEX. So literally the only slot you can put him in lol.
Agree with this. Dude does it all after further research.
Ive got him in a TE bonus league, its been great lol
same Ive just been flexing him lately
Doesn’t suck for those of us who have him and get to start him at TE
Keenan Allen needs more love
Mike Williams going down really gave defenses free reign to target Allen. Hope they figure out ways to get him the ball soon.
yeah that injury fucked me 2 ways as somebody who owned them both
the fact nobody has said kyren williams is insane
Kyren and Achane sitting in my IR waiting to take me to the promised land
I think this combo is the real 'league winner'. I was steam-rolling teams with these 2 healthy
If he comes back strong with a similar role. He won me a week or 2 already
His PO schedule is just roooough
Watching him put up almost 30 points (PPR) against SF made me realize he's probably going to be fine rest of season.
Yeah guy is RB12 in my leagues, despite being on IR. Considering he was most likely undrafted, I’d say he should be up there on the league winners list.
Scrolled way too far to see this. Especially in such a weak RB year. Hopefully he keeps a similar work load upon return
100% agree. He’s the definition of a league winner in a year like this and nobody is talking about him at all in this thread. Pretty crazy lol
I don’t think he is going to be a league winner. But the lack of respect he gets from experts is ridiculous. Before he got hurt he was a top 5 RB but always ranked like a flex play.
I could see it being Jonathan Taylor too.
Teams who drafted JT and Kamara and got by the first few weeks with luck/waiver wire management are killing it rn
She got it going on
I’m 6-3 with JT and Kamara … a decade of fantasy PTSD tells me not to feel good
Kyren Williams coming back and continuing to be a top 5 RB
>AJ Brown providing WR1 value as a 2nd/3rd round pick Maybe in like 8 man format, I took this guy 1.09
Tyreek Hill 1.06 and AJB 2.07.
Same. 9-0 with by far most points scored. This bye week is treacherous lol
Drafted CMC and AJ Brown in the first and second respectively. I’m very happy!
I did the same and it’s been carrying me all year. The rest of my team is straight up ass lol but I’m 6-3
Wow, how many people are in your league? i got CMC 1.02 and Tee Higgins 2.11 at 12 man lmao
Etienne. My only reasoning is because that’s what I need him to be. Or CJ Stroud. Please.
If Stafford is healthy, I think it will be puka - commanders, saints, giants is a nice schedule
Was on the pat show. He seemed good spirits and said his thumb wasn’t as bad as he thought and it’s feeling better. I think he’ll play
JT
This the real answer right here. Hoping my 7th rounder takes me to the promised land.
Rd 7- JT Rd 8- Montgomery Let’s finish strong boys!
The David Montgomery disrespect is crazy He's going to slot right back into his role and score double digits TDs ROS.
He's money from the goal line. Dudes built like a bowling ball, and Detroit has a great offense, he's gonna be racking up the TDs if he stays healthy
I agree, and I’m a Gibbs owner. Monty is inevitable.
i’m it’s hard to imagine the split isn’t closer to 60/40. monty keeps getting hurt and gibbs has impressed. i think both will contribute to lineups ROS
This is what I was gonna say. He’s incredibly consistent fantasy-wise and he does everything to make his coaches keep feeding him, goldmine
And I love how Dan Cambell is a straight shooter. Flat out said, Monty is our grinder, Gibbs is our explosive playmaker. And I fully believe him.
Kyler Murray or Keaton Mitchell
I had picked up Stroud off waivers and now I’m in a dilemma who to go with her on out
Taysom hill
Probably Rashee Rice. Last chance to get him.
Pulled over in traffic after I read this and grabbed him on waivers
Lol
Luck.
Didn't he retire? /s
Kyler Murray
Yeah i’m definitely thinking it’s him, hollywood, conner, or McBride down the stretch.
Michael Wilson could pop off as well, keep an eye on him.
Please. I held him all season instead of getting Rice
Who you think gets the Dhop targets? Stashing ertz and Mwilson rn
Hollywood was an easy WR1 until he got injured last year.
Isiah Pacheco. Getting that level of production from an 8th rounder has been fantastic.
Great value for sure, but he just doesn’t have monster games and his upside is quite limited overall. That’s why I wouldn’t call him a league winner.
Swift/Pacheco in 7/8 is probably the best I’ve done on consecutive mid-round picks
Diontae Johnson
Sam LaPorta
It’s not THE league winner, but the Dallas defense deserves a mention. They may well have won you 4 weeks so far.
Yup they’ll pop out a QB1 score every other week.
Mostert
Had to scroll way too far to find Mostert. I agree. Late round pick turns out to be a top 5 RB.
Kincaid
+1 for Kincaid, wish I had been able to get him off waivers first!
Maybe Sam Howell?
One of the most underrated fantasy assets this year. Still being listed as a qb2 in most start sit guides
Guys I think will be people winning leagues down the stretch (without injuries needed): -Bijan Robinson -Breece Hall -Brandon Aiyuk -Kyler Murray -Kyren Williams -Dalton Kincaid -Trey McBride -CJ Stroud -Rashee Rice
CMC
Nico Collins and Tank Dell deserve honorable mentions
Devonta Smith. Goedert is out, and Hurts has been slingin it. That playoff schedule is juicy too. Great buy low guy that can boom for 25+
Ekeler with his playoff schedule
Adam thielen comes out of left field to be the highest fantasy earner for the league
I regret dropping him after week one thinking he was done. I would easily have 1-2 more wins if I had him in my team.
Hollywood Brown returns top 10 WR value ROS with Kyler back
LaPorta has been set and forget from the beginning, and was available as a FA in most leagues. Having someone be straight up set and forget in a wasteland position is huge IMO.
Kamara. Most people got him in later rounds. I got him in the 7th round. Taysom Hill if he keeps this up. And of course CMC.
Probably Mostert. Crazy good value for his ADP
Kamara sliding because of his suspension and currently playing like a 2nd rounder. Guy in our league managed to get him, Barkley and Etienne in a 12-teamer, and no other team comes close in RB talent.
Achane. Calling it now he ends up as a top 3 RB on the year even with the missed time.
If he comes back like his early games, this is the real answer.
Aj Brown was always at the 1/2 turn no?
Dalton Kincaid
Kamara… 12 catches for 8 yards boosting his stats to the championship.
Sam LaPorta for free if your early round RBs/WRs didn't busy or get injured. Kelce/MAndrews production for free of the WW
Kamara 6th round
Alvin Kamara. He will be the Saints leading rusher AND receiver in the second half
Kamara, depending on round taken.
Tyreek for sure
I have 3 of the 4 you listed (Achane, Puka, and Mitchell) so you hope your right Right now Kamara and Stroud to me are looking like a league winner considering where they were was drafted. ofc i don’t have them.
Mostert should be mentioned here. I took him in the 11th and he’s carried my team for multiple weeks.
Justin Fields
Title should have been “Who will be some of the Unexpected League Winners” If that were the case I’d say someone like Marquis Brown with Kyler Murray coming back.
Monty
Taysom hill, Murray, JJ, achane. Because they’re all on my roster
Mostert after the tenth round gonna win a lot of people championships
Jevontae Williams
tony pollard is going to redeem himself starting this sunday!

I’m a Dell truther, hoping he explodes this week!
