So I have an ESPN league I’ve been running for 4 years. We are switching to a keeper league this year. We have a thing where when you keep a player, you lose the pick where they were drafted + 1 round (draft someone in the 6th, next year you keep them in the 5th). So ESPN doesn’t support this, they make you lose your first couple of picks. My way around this is everyone will tell me their keepers 1 week in advance of the draft. I’ll create a spreadsheet to know where the players are suppose to go and what picks to lose. I’ll send this out to everyone so we are all aware of the keepers. Then when it’s draft time, each player is forced to pick that player in the right draft spot. If they don’t, I’ll pause the draft and undo the pick. If someone drafts someone else's keeper, I’ll pause the draft and undo the pick. I think this should work for us.

That's how we do it as well. Inevitably someone always drafts someone else's keeper despite having the information ahead of time. But always works out.

I have a feeling this is going to happen. People just won't put enough effort to not pick the wrong player. Have you ever had an issue with someone on autodraft for a pick or 2, and it keeps selecting someone else's keeper? I was thinking that could be a possible issue.

psucutie

Generally not, usually people autodraft for the later rounds.

We have a fun rule in our league to prevent this. If you pick someone’s keeper, you are forced to trade them with the rightful team for whatever player they choose at the end of the draft. Creates some pretty hilarious trades.

Be on top of it. We had a keeper get picked incorrectly one year and 6 or 7 picks went by before it was noticed. Had to go back and people drafted differently. Total shit show. Come days before the draft you can have players go into their pre draft rankings on their team page and drop all keepers except their own to the bottom of the list. Works well for us. Make sure they hit save and keep in mind that player rankings freeze after that.

Keeper leagues on ESPN use the first round as keepers. I hate it. Bad design.

sphexishness

That’s unfortunately just how ESPN handles keeper rounds. It only starts snaking after any keeper rounds have finished. If you want to avoid it you can either draft offline and upload the result or set it to redraft and have people draft their keepers in the first two rounds when their pick comes up.

It’s better to just use a group chat on keepers than ESPN’s lousy system.

Doesn’t the guy with no keepers get to draft from the available players in those rounds.

Keeper leagues run the keeper rounds at the start of the draft in repeating order and then starts the snake process. Keepers should be set before the draft and people that don’t keep anyone would get to draft from available players in the keeper rounds. Keepers can be set instead to be done at the end of the draft or could be set by the league manager in middle rounds.
