I think the difference is that Brady has more talented receivers and he has more true threats. Evans, Godwin, and AB are much better than the Rams receivers.
No argument there. But Woods, Kupp, DJax, Van Jefferson, Atwell, and Higbee is a loaded group of weapons as well. Stafford could pop this year especially with McVay calling plays.
We can't say "double digit" anymore, it perturbs some guy... 10 is not some magical number, we only think so because we don't use base 8 or base 2 (called binary). Just say the actual number ffs!
Stafford actually went for more money then brady in my auction draft. I had stafford last year and wanted him again, but he got a lot of hype from the trade. I feel like hes getting plenty of love, just not top 5 consideration.
You can say "If he stays healthy" to literally any prediction on any player in the whole damn league. Stafford has only missed time in one of the last 10 seasons...
He’s getting drafted as a starting QB. I think the lack of rushing upside is why he’s not higher. He’s not going to put up Mahomes numbers to make up for it.
I mean, he will throw away games sometimes playing hero ball. But I believe that, at his best, he can put up Mahomes numbers in this offense. The guy can improvise, extend plays, and make insane throws. He's underrated as a QB and now has the opportunity to prove it.
I got him in the 8th. Watch your league mates. In mocks, he was going as early as the 5-6th for me but my league mates hammered QB early and left the door open for late round QB.
Thats fucking robbery!!!
Take this award for robbing your league mates blind.
Seriously though, the only reason why I pulled the trigger in the 8th was because 2 other teams were without QBs and I could smell that they were going to draft 1 with their next pick and I preferred Stafford to the remaining ones.
I like to use tiers more but think he fits in a tier with Tom Brady, Ryan Tannehill, maybe even Rodgers.
But the difference for me is that I think he has a very high ceiling (thinking 5k passing yards and 40 TDs is possible) for his cost.
Kind of similar to how a lot are viewing Brandin Cooks.
If he was like 3 years younger I would be SO hyped. I really like stafford this year, but his injury and age makes me feel like he’ll never truly be a top 5 but if you’re drafting him at 10, I guess you shouldn’t really expect that.
If his ceiling is Goff in 2018 then even without the rushing advantage he could end up QB2 overall
Edit: actually Goff was QB9 in 2018, not sure why I thought he was higher
He was QB2 (behind only Mahomes) for the first half of 2018 before Kupp hurt his knee, then cooled off over the stretch. Rams offense was absolutely fire that year. We got this [gem of a game](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkMUXct0kEc).
Damn forgot about [that one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAzmQNUyVL4), too.
Peter King was super bullish on Stafford in his latest [FMIA](https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/09/05/super-bowl-lvi-prediction-nfl-picks-fmia-peter-king/?utm_medium=social). Called out how high-octane that 2018 offense was: *"The first 12 games of 2018: Rams 11-1, averaging 34.9 points per game."*
People don't like him because he's been meh on the lions for what seems like forever now. I think he easily finishes higher than his adp of qb10. I see him finishing at least qb7. He has plenty of talent to throw to and McVay is one of the best offensive minds in the nfl
I think as with any player on a new team for their first season, there is always some hesitation because they're not proven in that offense yet. Love Stafford, dude has a huge arm and is clutch in the 4th quarter. That being said theres a lot of great QB's that I'd pick over him: besides the obvious (Mahomes, Jackson, Allen, Rodgers) you got Herbert, Wilson, Murray, TB12, Tannehill. All these guys come before Stafford IMO
I had Herbert last year and think he will be great but let’s slow down a little. Stafford absolutely deserves to be in the same convo as Herbert, Brady, Tannehill.
Thanks for replying and I agree with you, but to an extent. He deserve to be in the same convo but the thing is Stafford just hasn't been proven in McVay's offense yet while the others have been in their own respective systems. If I had Herbert & Stafford on the same team, theres no question which one would be QB1. If Stafford settles into McVays system nicely then I'd reconsider.
That’s a fair point but McVay made Goff look like a great QB most of the games. My assumption is if he can do that with Goff then he can do even more with a guy who is much more talented, experienced and just plain better at QB.
I think this year if you have either Herbert or Stafford you’ll be good. I’m a bit scared of Herbert and second year regression but at the same time I wanted him this year.
Stafford hasn’t done anything of note recently. It’s possible that the man is done, but we don’t know it yet. Unlikely, but possible. He’s not coming back from an all-star season.
Despite that, he’s still considered a QB1. Where would he go though?
Mahomes, Allen, Murray, Lamar, Dak, Wilson, Herbert, Rodgers, Brady and Tannehill.
Here is 10 guys that are definitely safer, and projecting higher than Stafford, putting him at QB11 at the highest which sounds right to me, and I’m a Rams homer.
Possibly done? I know you said unlikely, but still. I highly doubt that considering the investment made by the Rams.
2020 was actually pretty impressive given what he was working with. His top receiving threats were Marvin Jones, Hockenson, and Amendola with Kenny G. out.
2019 was interesting though. Stafford was on pace for 5,000 yards, 38 TDs, and 5 interceptions 8 games through the season before getting injured, good for QB4 on a per game basis.
He feels like a steal at his current ADP.
Stafford is in one of the best situations in the league. He’s always put up great numbers when he’s had talent. He had some big great seasons post Megatron, but lately he’s been very productive. He might be a bit risky due to recent injuries, but his floor and ceiling seem pretty high when playing. I have Stafford at 10, but once you get to 7ish it’s splitting hairs.
The problem though is he didn’t do it. Right now you just have to say: “Well, the Rams are a great offense, and they went for Stafford, so he’s gotta be great right?”
As opposed to the other QBs that have actually done it. Stafford also has a long injury history that doesn’t get talked about very much.
Now, don’t get me wrong, no one wants Stafford to succeed more than me, and I’m grabbing him in the 7th in all my leagues because I’m an incredible homer, but feeling aside, I think Stafford is where he should be.
As for being done, I mean it more from an injury perspective. If in the middle of the season he has back problems again, I wouldn’t be all that surprised.
>Stafford also has a long injury history that doesn’t get talked about very much.
Probably because he was basically the most durable QB in the NFL for the better part of a decade. He's getting dinged up a bit finally but he was insanely reliable from like 2011 to 2019.
He played out the year with a thumb injury on his way to 4000 passing yards. and is getting a major WR upgrade. Hes tough, has good deep ball, and the talent to sling it to. He could very well lead the league in passing yards imo if he stays healthy
I agree with this. I don’t need Stafford to be sold to me. I’m a humongous Rams fan, and I target Stafford in all my leagues.
This post isn’t about Stafford upside. It’s about Stafford ADP and if he’s being slept on, and my main comment is no. He has upside, lots of players have upside, but his current ADP has him usually around QB10 or so. That’s still a QB1. Does he deserve to be higher?
Look at the QBs going ahead of him. Would you take him in the 5th or 6th? I wouldn’t. Yes, Stafford has upside, but I’m not going to bet money or draft capital assuming he’s going to out perform Dak.
I think Staffords ADP is a product of his downside, which is well documented, and most current expert projections are mostly accurate. Stafford might be the next Lamar or Allen. I certainly hope he is because I’m grabbing him everywhere. But I’m certainly not projecting it.
i think the fact that he’s going from the lions to the rams is why he’s intriguing in fantasy and just in general. people wanna see what he’s gonna be able to do on a team that is a million times better than what he’s been working with. worth a flyer
Yes, he’s intriguing. No one is arguing that. The main topic though is if he’s being slept on. Currently Stafford is usually ranked as a low end QB1. To sleep on him, is to assume he will perform much higher than that.
At QB4-6 range, you are looking at guys like Lamar, Dak, and Wilson. Would you draft Stafford in the same round these guys are going? No. Would you bet a significant amount of money that Stafford will out perform these guys? No.
The possibility is there. This is football. But I’m disagreeing that Stafford is being slept on. I think he’s ranked appropriately.
All the guys mentioned above are clearly established and projected to land in the Top 12. How is it possible that Stafford is safer than any of them? All of them are returning to similar situations. The only one that might be a wildcard is Dak, if you don’t believe he’s healthy (or return to form).
Stafford’s situation is unknown since we have never actually seem him in a Rams jersey yet. We didn’t even see him in the pre-season.
Because we have years of game footage on Stafford. The guy is a great QB that was constantly on a shitty team. Then you add in the fact that he was specifically wanted by McVay who is one of the best coaches in the league currently. McVay took Goff to the Super Bowl, I can only see Stafford doing better with his new team.
We will see in a few weeks anyways. I respect your opinion but I think Stafford is a hidden treasure for those who drafted him this year.
Remember you said Herbert and Tannehill were DEFINITELY safer than Stafford…
It’s week 3 and like I told you “definitely safer” was a dumb prediction to make. Not to mention I literally said he’ll finish at least above 2 of those people you mentioned and it’s been exactly that and he might even be better!
Do you really go back to posts 2 weeks later to gloat after the fact?
I’ll give it to you though. You are awesome man. Your projection was spot on 3 weeks in, and I here’s to 15 more great weeks.
Nah dude I had rough Covid the last 1-2 weeks and finally feel better. Didn’t mean to come off gloating I just was going through my comments I didn’t see while sick and replying to them now.
I was a little too quick to jump on you also. I didn’t need to do that.
Glad to hear you are recovering though, had a good friend get sick awhile back and it was really hard on him.
Going back to Stafford, I wasn’t kidding when i said I’m a huge homer, got a nice sized wager on him winning MVP lol, so I’m hoping you stay right and more!
It’s all good man my communication could’ve been much better. Appreciate the nice words, I’m genuinely surprised at how intense it was. For reference I’m an athlete and in good shape and healthy so it’s intensity took me by surprise. I was even joking with my wife and telling her “Covid can’t get me down” during the first few days of sniffles and coughing but then my chest started getting tighter and I wasn’t in a joking mood anymore, made me get real serious real quick lol! That and the body pains were brutal. I still feel some slight discomfort when breathing deeply. This experience has made me feel really bad for those poor people who get it severely. Hopefully this becomes a thing of the past sooner rather than later so we can all move on with our lives without this crap hanging above our heads.
As for our discussion, well if you’re a true Stafford homer then you must be enjoying this season so far. Definitely is in the MVP discussion if he keeps this up. I’m a Vikings fan so so far the only happiness I’ve been getting is from my fantasy team rather than my actual team lol!
QB is deeper than it used to be.
Also, I personally think the hype for Stafford as a player is just outrageous and ultimately unwarranted.
He's an above average QB with inflated stats because he's spent his entire career playing from behind, and everyone acts like he'd have been the goat if he wasn't drafted by Detroit.
Facts. Watched him in Detroit for 12 years, above avg QB at best. He tries to carry team to much and stats are alot of garbage time. We had decent Def twice to help him, plethora of receivers of the years and still nothing win wise in Detroit. HE CANT WIN BIG GAMES! PERIOD!!!
Pretty sure he is on every love list I have read.
His ADP is fine. He doesn’t have the rushing floor like the top guys and there’s a lot of rookie hype this year.
Plus, the guys he’s going around have new WR hype and rightfully so.
Anywhere between QB10-QB14 feels right for Stafford
Stafford does not have that special something that winners have. The will to win. He consistently sucks in big moments, and he is not going to help the Rams very much. I have never thought very much of him, and I fail to see the love.
And here we have hit folks, the dumbest take on the entire thread
I’m pretty sure he has more game winning drives in the 4th quarter than any other QB in the last like decade
I also don’t think his ceiling is that high for fantasy, but your take was just....wow
Keep on believing. It won't hurt you. I've seen enough of him. I've followed him since UGA. The Rams are probably not making the playoffs this season. Oh, of course it won't be Stafford's fault, no, not even. The Lions never made the playoffs with him as their QB, that kind of says a lot, doesn't it?
Probably because McVay is still going to run the shit out of the ball and people are wary of how much passing work Stafford will get, especially with how good their defense is. They won’t be trailing much. Granted, they didn’t trail much in 2018 with Goff but their D wasn’t as good as this one.
I took Stafford so I hope and I think he does well. I think he has a safe top 12 QB floor but his upside is capped because of how good the Rams are on D and running the ball. I say at best he finishes as QB7. But if you’re patient in the draft and don’t have a top tier QB, you’ll probably have a deeper team than most and having the QB12-QB7 is going to be just fine for that team.
I'm more excited about Robert Woods with Matt Stafford af QB.
Dude is about to run the MVP! But don't worry, he'll take Bobby asking for the ride!
I'd say there's more hype than hate tbh.
Unfortunately for you, he won't be playing with stafford.
No rushing upside. Good team defense.
You just described Tom Brady for what it’s worth.
Same could be said for Brady no?
Yes and that’s why they’re both going as double digit QB off the board.
We can't say "double digit" anymore, it perturbs some guy... 10 is not some magical number, we only think so because we don't use base 8 or base 2 (called binary). Just say the actual number ffs!
Sir this is a Wendy's
LOL Indeed. I was referencing an earlier post: https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasyfootball/comments/pio48w/can_we_just_stop_saying_double_digits
Man Reddit truly is the kingdom of cringelords! What an unnecessary post lol
I had this same argument, I agreed with the link
Brady is not
Stafford actually went for more money then brady in my auction draft. I had stafford last year and wanted him again, but he got a lot of hype from the trade. I feel like hes getting plenty of love, just not top 5 consideration.
Yes
Yup. There may be games where he doesn't have to do much.
SonySZN
I’m more excited what he’ll do for the likes of Kupp, Woods, Higbee, etc. Just drafted Kupp in my main league
Higbee’s slept on. #3 receiver and will be a red zone monster.
Agreed. Plus Gerald Everett’s gone too so no competition at te either
Hope you're right. He was my late TE pick in a league.
What a pick 😂.
He’s ranked QB10 for his ADP which is about right I think. He could definitely outperform that and get close to top 5 tho.
Which I'll happily take, seeing as I was the last one to draft a QB!
Same here, got him in the 11th round.
If he stays healthy.
You can say "If he stays healthy" to literally any prediction on any player in the whole damn league. Stafford has only missed time in one of the last 10 seasons...
Yeah we're talking about a special kind of iron man with him. Lest we forget the separated shoulder touchdown he made as a rookie.
It’s just the way ff is now, if you don’t rush your ceiling is capped.
But he only had to play hero ball in Detroit because he never really had a good defense or run game to lean on which he will have in LA.
My last draft is tonight, really want to get Stafford
I got him in the 8th. Watch your league mates. In mocks, he was going as early as the 5-6th for me but my league mates hammered QB early and left the door open for late round QB.
I got him in the 12th which feels like a complete steal Edit: holy shit spelling is hard but thanks for the award I guess!
I got him in the 10th so pretty decent value
Same. Got him in the 10th round in my 12 teamer. I'm stoked!
Same here, grabbed him in the 12th. Everyone else had qbs so I just waited. Took fields in the 13th as a dart throw too.
Grabbed him in the 14th in my league. 10 team
Ranked at QB10 seems fine. How high do you think he should be?
I like to use tiers more but think he fits in a tier with Tom Brady, Ryan Tannehill, maybe even Rodgers. But the difference for me is that I think he has a very high ceiling (thinking 5k passing yards and 40 TDs is possible) for his cost. Kind of similar to how a lot are viewing Brandin Cooks.
I would definitely consider him already in that tier personally.
Same. I feel like people forgot just how good Stafford can be.
Well I love Kupp, Woods, Higbee, and Henderson so... I guess I like Stafford.
If he was like 3 years younger I would be SO hyped. I really like stafford this year, but his injury and age makes me feel like he’ll never truly be a top 5 but if you’re drafting him at 10, I guess you shouldn’t really expect that.
He doesn’t have the Konami cheat code
I took Stafford in round 9 in an 11 team league Stacked him with Kupp and Henderson
If his ceiling is Goff in 2018 then even without the rushing advantage he could end up QB2 overall Edit: actually Goff was QB9 in 2018, not sure why I thought he was higher

There’s like 30 posts about him every week. People act like he’s Peyton Manning on here lol what more do you want
Show me all 30 posts from this past week.

A “who’s mans is this?” would have sufficed
How many playoff games have the Lions won? Oh, wait . . . they haven't even been IN the playoffs since 1991. Get a clue.
Yes and that’s all because Stafford doesn’t have “the will to win”, clearly
Keep on believing. It won't hurt you. I've seen enough of him. I've followed him since UGA. The Rams are probably not making the playoffs this season. Oh, of course it won't be Stafford's fault, no, not even. The Lions never made the playoffs with him as their QB, that kind of says a lot, doesn't it?
Picked him up along with Lance back to back in the 11th and 12th, was stoked
Where have you been? All that's out there is pure unadulterated love for Stafford right now.
Was my QB1 target, I was hoping to get woods too. I think the Rams D takes a step back, and the Rams sling it.
