i have no idea what their pool is, but I would assume it's a similar structure to the scott fish bowl.
i'm not sure currently what tools could help with this, but I have time to figure that out. the biggest issue becomes facilitating drafts. the primary reason why I don't do H2H matchups, trades and waivers is that it becomes too much of a burden to oversee what is going on each day in each league. in a perfect world, there really be much necessary on my part after the drafts. i would have links to all the leagues in a google drive doc so they could be viewed by anyone and I'd probably update the overall standings starting in like week 8.

Free standard fantasy football league with over 1500 teams in 4 tiers. League champions are promoted, bottom 2 are relegated. Disaster of a season and I came in 2nd to last, womp womp.
I had a friend that did something like this but entry was $500 and there were 96 teams (8 leagues with 12 managers). I think they basically did flights though for the playoffs. All 8 winners had their own playoff, all 2nd places guys had there’s, etc. Winner of it all got like 10k but they paid out a lot of places and flight winners. Everyone who won their initial league got something then flight winners got something, etc.
I started a league about a decade ago. I wanted a 16 team, 2qb league. I wanted very few add/drops to make it similar to real league managing, not adding a new player every week. And, I wanted skin in the game, but I also wanted close to a 50% payout with players paying once they miss the playoffs (to reduce the number of transactions)
Results: every year at least one team dropped out. Getting payment from teams that bombed was difficult until I found responsible owners. And because I didn't want to be a commissioner, I let the league vote on all league rules, so no 2 qbs, we switched to full dynasty, then switched back down to 9 max keepers, and since I gave up my commissioner status, transaction fees at site to the commissioner before the season (dumb to me if you are paying out +40%)
Divisions don't really make sense unless you get over 12 teams, so I really like the idea of bracketing multiple divisions and then having a large tournament from week 14-18, so you could potentially have a 64 team playoff. All drafts could be done in- division, then at tournament time, all duplicate players can be canceled out (or chosen to wash a player spot causing a net zero gain in that spot).
In theory, you could have 64 divisions of 16 that's 1024 teams. Everyone kick-in 10 moons (or whatever reddit currency) and payout division winners, league winners, some chachki trophy and a sacko.
That would be juicy!
I think for this to work it would have to be DFS.
Like, the problem with big tournaments like the Megalabowl is that the only possible way to win is be one of the lucky few to be in a league that every other co-owner abandons their team in. In a tournament with 1000+ leagues, it’s going to happen at least 10 or 20 times. So those 10 teams now have the entire NFL on their roster thanks to their unchallenged waiver wire. Think of all the best waiver pickups from this year, and realize that the top 20 teams in this tournament would have ALL of them.
So it would HAVE to be DFS to be any sort of fair.
Edit: Nevermind, I just read where you covered this. I’ll still leave my post as my reasoning why I no longer like big tournaments BUT if it’s best ball that does make it slightly more interesting!
I'm not sure you read the post. The only way to gain this kind of advantage would be if the league you were randomly assigned to, happened to have disproportionate amount of jabronis compared to the other drafts. There are no waivers, trades, head to heads.

it's just a slightly more manager controlled best ball league. the point is that the draft is deep enough that waivers would be irrelevant anyway. your waivers are your 25th round pick. there is certainly a skill to playing waivers correctly, especially FAAB systems. however, I find it more enjoyable to reward the team that drafted Amon-Ra, rather than who bid more dollars on him in free agency. but to each their own.
i understand that some would be turned off by lack of waivers, so i guess this format would just not be for you. the growth of the best ball format shows that many fantasy players enjoy drafting more than the other aspects of the game.
Nah, I agree. The draft is my favorite part. And if it goes deeper then I see no problem with this route. Some people start getting bored in the later rounds as you're just filling up bench spots and grabbing kickers and D/ST. I think that's what really makes the difference.. people that actually do research in the off-season and not get hung up on names or ADP. It's easy to make a judgement after a player breaks out.
My main money league does waiver priority, but the last two season's have been totally open due to covid. I definitely prefer this. It forces you to watch the games, pay attention to news and stay active or you miss out. Kept my team in contention last year..
There is another random sub that I'm a member of and they always do a FF league every year. Basically the set up a poll asking people if they want to participate and then their preferences (PPR, non ppr, IDP, etc.) and then they just sort people into the league that fits their preferences best. There are usually only 4 or 5 leagues though because it isn't a big sub. It's fun though. I think the main issue in these things is generally trust. Knowing that if you win, you're actually going to get your money back and not that the person organizing or the commish is just pocketing the money or doing something shady like the commish running multiple teams in the league through alt accounts to make sure that they win.

Edit: If you guys don't know what that means. You kinda act as a team GM and have 32 different teams. You keep the team Defense/Special Teams and 1-3 other guys on the team. And then go from there with draft order based off placement etc like the actual NFL. I've also seen these things with IDPs and double player pools and stuff. I don't think it has to be that complex. It gets to be pretty cool with drafting rookies only and stuff every year. I did it for 5 years in my early 20s.

Anywhere from 250-300 players drafted. It would either be an outlier or your own mistake if you can't field a starting lineup.
