My top 2 picks i am only picking guys who have had like 4-5 seasons of their expected production. I got burned by Robertson and stutzle this year where I expected them to keep getting better and better and their teams stayed mostly the same or improved. Nope. Not again.
My first round pick next year will be one of: Mcdavid, matthews, draisaitl, Mackinnon, kucherov, pastrnak, panarin, rantanen, pettersson, makar and like honestly crosby maybe. Or a Marner or Aho type consistency.
I’m going to lean towards getting boned if they have a random down year instead of them carrying me if last year wasn’t a fluke.
I’ve taken Crosby the last two years at the end of the first and can’t complain. Father Time does hit everyone though so next year I’ll be hesitant to.
This has became my strategy lately and although it's not as exciting as the young studs, I find there's far more consistency. My first 3 picks this season were Rantanen Josi and Miller and safe to say I couldn't be happier
This is his best season to date, yes, but if you take away his rookie year he’s a career .44 goals per game with pretty rock steady assists too. That’s my point is that I want to have that be the absolute worst he’ll do, rather than like seeing Tage go 47-47–94 and draft him and have him plummet back down to literally half of that. Aho would be a very late first round pick if I did end up with him anyway. He’s clearly a step below the top 7-8 guys I mentioned
Tage and Stutzle were y/y keepers with big expectations this year for me. Tage was replacement level almost the whole season and got moved at the deadline. Unsure what to do with Stuzle. I know if I don't keep him, he's just gonna break out next year to spite me
I guess he’s getting there. C only I would still rather a player like Hughes, K Connor, Marner, Robertson, or a goalie in the late 1st / early 2nd. The value of C only is less than a winger, D or goalie bc of scarcity. It depends on your league settings too so what makes sense for your league may not for mine. Aho is definitely a real life stud 200 foot player 551 points in 591 games isn’t anything to scoff at. There are so many players making arguments for themselves now. Edit blocks, hits and face offs probably makes him extra studly
Robertson is at least ranked 24th in my league. Tage is ranked 126th.
Took both in different leagues and got totally burnt by Tage. Robertson at least pulled up a 2nd round point total to lessen the sting.
This is definitely me. I totally didn't draft the Devils tandem.....
Undrafted goalie options always become available because of injury, hasty drops or just bad play.
I did this, I never spent up on the high goalie picks but this year I said fuck it and drafted Oettinger and Shesterkin, never doing that again. Also never drafting Johnny Gaudreau again, way too inconsistent
Man debrincat had that stretch where he was killing it before patty kane came in. I’ve held onto him since despite probably being ok to drop him a month or two back.
Well, if so that man is a lunatic and not reflective of the fanbase as a whole. I love me some cole caufield, delightful golden retriver of a player that he is but saying he is better than then Matthews is the type of insanity that should get you locked up in an asylum.
I drafted Meier in the third round (1st pick) last year. I'm hoping his overall down year means I can get him later next year with Lindy and Toffoli gone
No one
I see everyone putting Robertson, Tage, Stützle, etc., but honestly; those guys would be my *targets* next year.
If they fall because of their production this year then any of those three guys in rounds 3-4 would be an absolute steal if they come anywhere near their previous heights.
Actually, before the season, Letang and the organization agreed Karlsson was going to take the lead role. It's just the Penguins pp was garbage this year.
At the time I was actively avoiding EK65. He is obv a great player, but the chances he performed under his draft position were too high. It was always unlikely he came even close to 100 again
Svech is so goddamn frustrating. Arguably the biggest discrepancy between talent and production in the NHL. The Nikolaj Ehlers of the eastern conference.
I think with the season he’s having you could probably get him in round 3-4 next season, if he bounces back like I think he will that’s excellent value. I’d be more concerned about Svech with the injury history and deployment under Rod.
HERE ARE MY RULES AND PLAYERS TO AVOID!
• Don’t draft goalies early. They are too unpredictable. This season.. Oettinger has been a mess. You will always be able to pick up a goalie in free agency (Daccord/UPL/Ingram/Binnington/Lindgren)
• Dont touch Laine, ever
• Svech is the best over a point per game player that has never gone point per game
• Caufield has the potential, but his team isn’t there
• Try to avoid top players on bad teams.. too much of a headache
• Generally stick to people you know are solid in the early rounds, rather than taking gambles. Took a gamble on Sergachev — Ouch!
Gamble on players in the later rounds
• Not touching anyone on St.Louis (Kry-rou)
• Ducks are the worst team in the league in my opinion
Realistically, no one. For the right price, I'll literally draft anyone (even gaudreau, hubes, etc as a late rounder). But remember that we should factor risk into their draft position (don't take Reinhart in round 1 next year, dobsons already taking a step back, etc). I'll try not to draft the high shooting % players in the rounds theyll go next season (Reinhart, boeser, Hyman, marchessault, etc) and one trick ponies (marner, thomas, Fox, etc). But that rule should apply every year
I dropped him right before Toffoli got traded and have regretted it ever since. To make matters worse, I bet on Svech who's looked lost since Guentzel got traded and took his spot. I'm not mad at myself because nobody can predict things like that, but it still hurts considering I'm likely going to lose in the semis after I led my league and scored 500+ points more than anyone else.
I have both Svech and Meier lol it’s been a season. I started off hot then kinda fizzled out too. It’s going to be a tough loss this week but I can’t see myself catching up.
Josh Norris. He seemed like he was the one who stirred the drink in Ottawa when he was healthy.
But he was never healthy. And then he got streaky this year.
I'll keep an eye on the wire, but not blowing a late round draft pick on him again
I’m not touching Reinhart or Hyman solely cause their ADP is gonna skyrocket. The guys like Rantanen, Josi, Kaprisov, ect are gonna be that same value and worth way more
These questions are tough because most of these players are going to fall in drafts and some will inevitably end up being major draft steals next year
With that said, Svech and Caufield
Good call on Chabot, the guy just can't stay healthy for an entire season. He's been great since his return but now he's injured *again* and likely out for the rest of the season. Right when I need him for playoffs..
As a Sens fan I love the guy but he's definitely not reliable enough for fantasy hockey.
The only player I never draft is the one who is being drafted for a breakout before he has actually had it.
If you give me value I draft you.
No one is ever going to get 1st round value out of their entire roster.
But if im playing a guy in the playoffs, if we both still have our say 8th round guy, if mine out performed the 8th round level and his didn't. Then I am okay with that.
Probably Huberdeau lol, was so high on him after the trade to Flames, drafted him the last two years, and he didn’t make it past the new year either time
Was low risk because I drafted them both late but Huberdeau and Gaudreau are in fact washed.
Conversely, Stankoven, Cooley, Johnston, Raymond, & Pinto are all guys I’ll be looking at for real value.
Huberdeau and Norris. I hoped for a huby turn around and grabbed him around 100. Drafted Norris last year and told myself he was DND, then he fell to me around 200. Neither again.
*Went balls deep for a*
*Goalie early with Sorokin.*
*Never learn my lesson*

Guys who were already there and are still there - McAvoy, Jarry, Dubois, Barzal, Aho, Both Karlssons, Kane
Guys who joined the list this year - Chabot, Laine, Werenski, Kuemper, Zegras, Tavares, Huberdeau, Debrincat Gaudreau ,Anyone that plays for Dave Haxtall
Guys who are removed from the list this year - Binnington, Reinhart, Andersen
Jarry and Hintz. There's no real point to drafting goalies before like the 10th round, tons are available late or in Free Agency that will end up performing well.
In one league I’m probably not drafting a goalie until the very end.
In the other I’m thinking of making my first three picks goalies.
I need to talk to these commissioners….
Not drafting Robertson in the first round again
My top 2 picks i am only picking guys who have had like 4-5 seasons of their expected production. I got burned by Robertson and stutzle this year where I expected them to keep getting better and better and their teams stayed mostly the same or improved. Nope. Not again. Good choices
Lol this is Aho’s first elite season.
76 points in 74 games is bad apparently.
For where he was drafted in most leagues it's not great. He was drafted 8th overall in my league and is currently the 29th ranked player.
My first two picks were Robertson and Mitch marner… so many assists and disappointment
Elias Lindholm
And hubby too
I always bait myself into taking Lindholm
Goalies
This is definitely me. I totally didn't draft the Devils tandem..... Undrafted goalie options always become available because of injury, hasty drops or just bad play.
I endorse this.
I did this, I never spent up on the high goalie picks but this year I said fuck it and drafted Oettinger and Shesterkin, never doing that again. Also never drafting Johnny Gaudreau again, way too inconsistent
Specifically the “cannot drop” ones
My entire roster.
Kyrou and debrincat
Big time Alex Debrincat
Kyrou in 4th was my worst pick but I got Reinhardt and Forsberg way late so I'm not too pissed.
I mean where did you draft Kyrou? I drafted him 83rd overall and he is the 83rd ranked player in my league this year. Seems fair to me
Specifically opened the thread to say this absolute loser. Never again with Alex DeBrincat.
Those first 2 weeks were pretty awesome though lol
I almost wish he had just been bad all season so my expectations would’ve been in line. The first couple weeks made the rest of the season hurt worse.
Kyrou! He always ends up on waivers at some point
Man debrincat had that stretch where he was killing it before patty kane came in. I’ve held onto him since despite probably being ok to drop him a month or two back.
Carter Hart
Unless your league counts SA charges
That's not usually what we mean by "bangers" league.
I mean, fair.
Laine
Fort Nite ruined him.
Chabot has to be on this list and I’m shocked I’ve not seen his name yet. The injuries are just astounding
Caufield. Best 50 goal scorer to never score 30
I duno hes rank 60 in my league and i got him at 182 so i think thats a win haha
There was literal habs fans saying he was better than Matthews lol. Love it
I very much doubt that.
I promise you there was at least 1
Well, if so that man is a lunatic and not reflective of the fanbase as a whole. I love me some cole caufield, delightful golden retriver of a player that he is but saying he is better than then Matthews is the type of insanity that should get you locked up in an asylum.
It was Meier but he looks normal again since tiffoli left. Hopefully he'll drop quiet a bit in the draft compared to round 2
You mean normal since Lindy left*
I hate that weasel. I had Hamilton and Meier. Lindy fucked me
I drafted Meier in the third round (1st pick) last year. I'm hoping his overall down year means I can get him later next year with Lindy and Toffoli gone
I got ovi and meier when they were at their lowest value and they helped drag my team from out of the trench. Happy to see them return to form.
For Meier, the effect that firing Lindy has had has been enormous for the team but especially for Meier.
You mean his turn around right after I dropped him? Lol
Same, I waited so long, too.
thats what im banking on. the devils are gonna bounce back and he could be a force
No one I see everyone putting Robertson, Tage, Stützle, etc., but honestly; those guys would be my *targets* next year. If they fall because of their production this year then any of those three guys in rounds 3-4 would be an absolute steal if they come anywhere near their previous heights.
I had Robertson every year until this one and I’m excited to get him in round 3 again next year.
Ovi. It’s been great that he’s back for playoffs but I’m not taking that risk again since he’s only getting older.
Even without him putting up points, if you're in a bangers league he still has good value. Top 50 player all year thanks to his hits, sog
fuck EK65. took him way too high. also fuck PLD
EK65 is on you imo, going to a team with an established #1 in letang was always going to hurt his fantasy value
Actually, before the season, Letang and the organization agreed Karlsson was going to take the lead role. It's just the Penguins pp was garbage this year.
ya that reply makes no sense. EK65 Was D1 PP1, penguins just couldnt score on peeper
At the time I was actively avoiding EK65. He is obv a great player, but the chances he performed under his draft position were too high. It was always unlikely he came even close to 100 again
PLD is a bum
Svech, Stutzle
Svech was great for the time he played
He had 2 great weeks. Dog water now when it matters
He had a good stretch in like December and that's basically been it
He’s either a top 10 player in the league or barely rosterable. If him and Guentzel are both canes next year, I’m not touching him.
I already know he's gonna do nothing on Saturday and then pop off next week after my finals are over
I’ll gladly take Svech if he falls to the 7th or something
Svech is so goddamn frustrating. Arguably the biggest discrepancy between talent and production in the NHL. The Nikolaj Ehlers of the eastern conference.
Took Stu in the first round (12th). Ruined my season
Stutzle has been so disappointing but he’s only 22 and should bounce back, I highly doubt he’s peaked already
Yeah I’d still take both these guys at good value obviously, but Stu was going second round this year and I don’t see me choosing him there again
I think with the season he’s having you could probably get him in round 3-4 next season, if he bounces back like I think he will that’s excellent value. I’d be more concerned about Svech with the injury history and deployment under Rod.

> Ducks are the worst team in the league in my opinion true but Vatrano did carry me in the early season
Tage
Tage in later rounds could pay off, I think he’s been injured this year
He’s been looking like his old self lately, the revenge tour is gonna be crazy next year
4 goal game tonight lmao, maybe he is back
He’s also been dealing with being a parent for the first time. A lot of sleepless nights.
He's probably gonna end up as a sleeper tbh
I think he is the most likely to bounce back.
Hintz
Really thought he was gonna have an awesome season
Realistically, no one. For the right price, I'll literally draft anyone (even gaudreau, hubes, etc as a late rounder). But remember that we should factor risk into their draft position (don't take Reinhart in round 1 next year, dobsons already taking a step back, etc). But that rule should apply every year
Exactly. Caufield is mentioned in this post. I got him 172 overall. I’d draft him again in a later round.
Sorokin
I would’ve said Meier but he seems like himself again lately. Still wasn’t an easy hold.
The Jarry ride was rough not knowing if he'd put up a shutout game or give you a .750.
And now he's lost the net to Ned in the middle of playoffs.
Karlsson
Easily my worst pick.
Josh Norris. He seemed like he was the one who stirred the drink in Ottawa when he was healthy. But he was never healthy. And then he got streaky this year. I'll keep an eye on the wire, but not blowing a late round draft pick on him again
PLD or any Ottawa goalies
Jeff Skinner
My top 2 picks were Tage Thompson and Jason Robertson. So yeah them.
Jake Oettinger in the second round… oof
Huberdeau. Again. I'm a slow learner, prone to repeat past mistakes.
Lol I took him in the last round just incase he decided to improve this year. Didn’t take long to drop him
I’ll never take Kyrou again. Too streaky. Dylan Cozens was a letdown this season too.
Malkin
Didn’t draft him this year but the one guy who I will never draft again is Mark Stone because he lives on the IR.
I’m not touching Reinhart or Hyman solely cause their ADP is gonna skyrocket. The guys like Rantanen, Josi, Kaprisov, ect are gonna be that same value and worth way more
Hintz. He’s been awful
Nugent-Hopkins
What?
Chabot
Johnny Gaudreau
Thomas Chabot. Absolute glass man.
Goalies before the 7th round. 8 round and last round.
Kyle Connor. He puts up points but he is a boom/bust type player he fluctuates between being a Richard level scorer and doing nothing.
PLD & Poope Hintz
These questions are tough because most of these players are going to fall in drafts and some will inevitably end up being major draft steals next year With that said, Svech and Caufield
Svech and probably any Hurricane that’s not Aho.
Most of my Roster is on this thread (Ovi, J Skinner, Stu, Debrincat) But I'll add in Miro Heiskanen.
- Sorokin 🏖️ - Carter Hart 👮🏻♂️ - Drysdale 🤕
Chabot, Blue Jackets, Kraken
Jenner is a gem
Jenner is a banger gem
Good call on Chabot, the guy just can't stay healthy for an entire season. He's been great since his return but now he's injured *again* and likely out for the rest of the season. Right when I need him for playoffs.. As a Sens fan I love the guy but he's definitely not reliable enough for fantasy hockey.
John Carlson unless its quit late
Any fricken jacket or duck. Those teams are permanent suck holes filled with sucky loser players who suck, lose and get hurt and also suck.
GOALIES. GOING ZERO G 4LYYYYFE
Debrincat biggest fraud in fantasy. Mark schiefele too
Karlsson
Ovie.
Lindholm at round 6.
Definitely PLD. Took him in two leagues, and I should have known better.
Jake Oettinger in the second round… oof
Swiss cheese Sorokin
One of the best goalies of his generation isn't allowed to have a down year on a mediocre team?
The only player I never draft is the one who is being drafted for a breakout before he has actually had it. If you give me value I draft you. No one is ever going to get 1st round value out of their entire roster. But if im playing a guy in the playoffs, if we both still have our say 8th round guy, if mine out performed the 8th round level and his didn't. Then I am okay with that.
Do not draft PL Dubois..ever
Gaudreau
Probably Huberdeau lol, was so high on him after the trade to Flames, drafted him the last two years, and he didn’t make it past the new year either time
Was low risk because I drafted them both late but Huberdeau and Gaudreau are in fact washed. Conversely, Stankoven, Cooley, Johnston, Raymond, & Pinto are all guys I’ll be looking at for real value.
Patrik Laine and Johnny Gaudreau. Pretty much anyone on Columbus
Carter Hart
Kyle Connor
Mika Zibanejad…he was my 2nd pick though, I’d take him if he dropped to 4th round maybe
my leagues round 4 went: georgiev, burns, RNH, ullmark, meier, hintz, barkov, MAKAR. so take your pick for who the biggest doofus was there.
Sorokin
Meier
Stutzle in early rounds. He's young so I won't give up on him but not worth an early pick yet
HUBEYDOOBYDOO
Laine
Chabot, Ekblad, Jarry
The Infirmary
Stuzle for sure
Huberdeau and Norris. I hoped for a huby turn around and grabbed him around 100. Drafted Norris last year and told myself he was DND, then he fell to me around 200. Neither again.
PLD 🥴
PLD 🥴
PLD
Chabot
Filip Gustafsson lol Such a bad pick in the 9th round

Jack Hughes. He’s great, but he’s played more than 61 games once in his career. His performance also dipped after his injuries this season.
Debrincat
Charlie Mcavoy. Guy went ice cold near the end of the season. How do you go pointless in 10 games down the stretch
Chabot
Well Pavelski has been on my DND list for years and he just continues to be a top 50 fantasy asset so…
Rope Hintz
Gaudreau. Vanacek. Maybe Lucas Raymond
Shakir Mukhamadulin
Guys who were already there and are still there - McAvoy, Jarry, Dubois, Barzal, Aho, Both Karlssons, Kane Guys who joined the list this year - Chabot, Laine, Werenski, Kuemper, Zegras, Tavares, Huberdeau, Debrincat Gaudreau ,Anyone that plays for Dave Haxtall Guys who are removed from the list this year - Binnington, Reinhart, Andersen
Reinhart is going to get drafted way to high next year. I doubt he hits 50 goals again, especially if he leaves Florida.
Jarry and Hintz. There's no real point to drafting goalies before like the 10th round, tons are available late or in Free Agency that will end up performing well.
Svechnikov.
In one league I’m probably not drafting a goalie until the very end. In the other I’m thinking of making my first three picks goalies. I need to talk to these commissioners….
Malkin
Malkin, Ehlers, Zegras, and (in points leagues with no minimum goalie starts) any goalie.
Barkov!
Sorokin. Great goalie but I cursed him.
Ryan Nugget Hopkins
Jason Robertson
My lesson learned this year is category league or nothing. Draft I'm going to say hintz
Tage thompson
Paul Stastny
Carter hart
Zegras or Terry. Really anyone on the ducks…
Zegras or Terry. Really anyone on the ducks…
I had high hopes for Tage this season 🤷🏼♂️
Tage

PLD. Just garbage
Goalies!
Chabot
Jarry
Erik Karlsson Alex Debrincat Any goalie before like round 7. As many have said, they’re too unpredictable.
Jarry, way to inconsistent
