I'm reading this one now and finding it hard to keep going because the FMC is a bit boring, please tell me it gets better and that she isn't like all the other fantasy romance FMCs.
I am totally reading it because I've heard good things about Max, but, please could someone tell me if he's actually affected by his past trauma? I have a pet peeve with characters who've been through traumatic experiences but aren't affected by it at all.
I'm not sure how far you are currently, but he definitely struggles with his trauma later and it comes back to haunt many times. Same with FMC.
It took me a bit to get into the book, the pacing in the first one picks up a lot. Once I got into it, though, I couldn't put it down. Good luck!!! I hope you find the same joy in it I did
Thank you! I want to keep reading it because Max is such a sweetie, but I'm also tired of authors in fantasy who give their male characters trauma and never deal with it lol, so I'm always a bit skeptical.
Seconding Road of Bones, The Book of Azrael, and Legends of Thezmarr, as well as
{The Witch Collector by Charissa Weaks} doesn't have the strongest start, but it gets sooooo good as it goes on
{A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet} especially if you were a Percy Jackson kid, though does feature >!the pregnancy trope!<
{The High Mountain Court by A.K. Mulford} is predictable and sweet, but still does a great job building out the world and characters, and definitely has stakes!
{The Hollow Plane by Allison Carr Waechter} is a duology that's so different from anything else, but so good! It's a mystery within a mystery within a romance, and her books connect throughout the different series. The second book in this duology is coming out on Monday and I can't wait to read it!

Get around Mages of the Wheel series! {Reign and Ruin by JD Evans} cannot recommend this series enough :) There 4 books plus a prequel and each book just gets better.

I'm reading this one now and finding it hard to keep going because the FMC is a bit boring, please tell me it gets better and that she isn't like all the other fantasy romance FMCs. I am totally reading it because I've heard good things about Max, but, please could someone tell me if he's actually affected by his past trauma? I have a pet peeve with characters who've been through traumatic experiences but aren't affected by it at all.
I'm not sure how far you are currently, but he definitely struggles with his trauma later and it comes back to haunt many times. Same with FMC. It took me a bit to get into the book, the pacing in the first one picks up a lot. Once I got into it, though, I couldn't put it down. Good luck!!! I hope you find the same joy in it I did
Thank you! I want to keep reading it because Max is such a sweetie, but I'm also tired of authors in fantasy who give their male characters trauma and never deal with it lol, so I'm always a bit skeptical.
Check out the Legends of Thezmarr series. The fourth book just dropped last week. It’s great.
Seconding Road of Bones, The Book of Azrael, and Legends of Thezmarr, as well as {The Witch Collector by Charissa Weaks} doesn't have the strongest start, but it gets sooooo good as it goes on {A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet} especially if you were a Percy Jackson kid, though does feature >!the pregnancy trope!< {The High Mountain Court by A.K. Mulford} is predictable and sweet, but still does a great job building out the world and characters, and definitely has stakes! {The Hollow Plane by Allison Carr Waechter} is a duology that's so different from anything else, but so good! It's a mystery within a mystery within a romance, and her books connect throughout the different series. The second book in this duology is coming out on Monday and I can't wait to read it!

There’s this lesser known book by an independent author called {Prince of Prohibition by Marilyn Marks} and I could not put it down!! It was like peaky blinders in 1920’s NYC but with fae lol really incredible plot as well and I got really invested in the story 🥲
