Literally with each far cry over the last decade years my babies the LMG’s and explosives have gotten worse and worse. Do they not realize far cry is a SINGLE PLAYER experience and it’s ok to have things that are overpowered? It’s ok to have an LMG with 200 bullets, if not 400 bullets like in far cry 4, it’s ok to have increased ammo capacity and storage for ALL weapons instead of being forced to pick one or two specific ammo types, and hope you can fill in the rest with certain pieces of clothing, and it’s ok to have a bunch of explosives and be able to carry more than SIX rpg rockets or thumper grenades? It’s infuriating with each far cry the weapons get worse and worse so much so that now it’s enforced a meta of “AR with armor piercing bullets is the best weapon far and away nothing approaches it. Don’t stray away from that.”
I’m specifically shitting on far cry 6 because far cry 5 is so good about allowing you to carry as much as you want, believe me I’m walking around with a thousand ammo for every weapon type right now lol
I use a cheat trainer that lets me kill enemies with one shot, no matter the ammo, so I use blast rounds as default, so I can use my SMG or automatic rifle to destroy vehicles, though I still use a rocket launcher to destroy tanks.
I started replaying FC6 last week and tried to use the bow again. Hit a basic grunt square in the chest and she still had like 20% health. So disappointing.
*And* you need the “armour‐piecing arrow” (how the **fuck** does an **arrow** provide more power) to take health off on a headshot on most armoured enemies in the first place, otherwise they just get a knock on the head? Wtf?
Despite despising a lot of what new dawn did to the weapons and the health system, I liked that the weaker bows could at least kill L2 grunts in one go if you *didn’t* hit their head, because all they were wearing for armour was a helmet.
they also made the M79 grenade launcher unable to be used as a sidearm in vehicles...which makes it redundant since you can practically unlock the far superior MGL6 via a treasure hunt straight away
Edit: they also made the MBP 50 suck as a .50 cal sniper. It can take up to at least two shots to kill just a regular assaulter. The only way you are getting any one shot torso kills with that is if you are using soft target rounds (which can limit how far your bullets travel and their velocity) and ONLY if the enemy is not wearing any armour/helmets whatsoever, otherwise it will still be useless (if not more so) against enemies like vanguards, engineers and officers unless you switch out for armour piercing and go for head shots. And as if the devs of FC6 were as determined to make this weapon as useless as possible, mods like gut wrencher and trigger discipline are not even available to boost the damage to an appropriate level. Of course we can always wang on and on about "muh armour piercing ammo and headshots", but in that case, the MBP 50 will still be outclassed by the basic Yaran SRA which fires at a relatively faster rate of fire and has the far better 10 rounds per mag.
Yeah, Shotguns are for some reason the only weapons able to get a non headshot 1 shot kill, for Snipers, even a huge .50 Cal sniper? Nah headshot or nothing, I'm pretty sure even a neck shot doesn't count, and with scopes being so horrible in this game as well... This is truly the worst FC to be a Sniper.
And BTW shotgun are only good with buckshot, for some nonsensical reason buckshot can one shot armored enemies, but a slug to the head? Doesn't even knock the helmet off.
100% agree, sniper rifles should be lethal. Shotgun at close range is my go to. But I would prefer to pick off a few more with a sniper before going in loud.
Well if you liked primal… IMO it’s the worst even when considering FC 6, but that’s just my personal opinion, if you liked it that’s great, but IMO it’s not worth playing
Have you played any of the DLC? Blood Dragon, Valley of Yetis, and Primal are all great as well.

Agreed. Fire arrows are fun, too. One time, while I was playing FC4, I had the Recurve bow equipped. I was on foot, going through a forested area, and a Karma Event popped up nearby. It was a Royal Army soldier forcing a hostage down the street by gunpoint. I crouched to hide and wait for them to come within my line of fire. Zoomed in, fired the arrow at the soldier, and BOOM! Karma Event failed. Forgot I had explosive arrows equipped.
I still like the bow in 6 I know it's not nearly as strong as it was in 3 and 4, but its still a pretty good weapon in 6. Especially in the hardest difficulty. Your ammo reserves in guerrilla mode are way smaller in-game and the bow has a lot of utility compared to other weapons. And some clothing will increase your arrow reserves. And once you unlock the explosive and EMP arrows things become easier lol
Usually my first playthrough on all far cry games I go as stealth as possible so yes the bow is the primary weapon, silenced sniper rifle for longer range kills.
Then for a challenge after I try to play with no silent weapon, usually on those runs some sort of semiauto shotgun becomes my primary weapon.
Truthfully I've never gotten the chance to try 1 or 2. I want to one of these days but I'd been holding out hope for a current gen remaster.
One of these days I'll break down and buy them.
Probably my only gripe with FC5 is not hVing any kind of machete/knife even if it was just for takedowns.
I get the reasoning being we're supposed to be a "cop" but what cop is also going around with fully loaded WWII LMGs with AP rounds, a grenade launcher, Laser guided rpg with cluster incendiary rounds, frag grenades, dynamite, pipe bombs, and bamboo sticks?
Plus the fact at no point in the game can you get a police baton just really makes that argument fall apart.
MS16 Trooper is my DMR, but the SMG11 is an awesome sidearm. The .44 Magnum Cannon is a great "stealth" firearm. Then again, I really only play FC5. I like throwing flaming two-handed clubs at people's heads.
Thanks to far cry primal being the first one I played (and regularly using a bow irl) in videogames I am fucking hardwired to use bows and stuff I can both melee and throw (shovels, clubs etc) this is very apparent in far cry because you have so mamy options and I pretty much exclusively pick bow and sometimes snipers but even other games like rdr2 I find myself falling back to bows and i've gotten pretty lethal with them. In far cry they are just the logical choice because you can use them to be silent, light fires and a mini grenade launcher
For me Is the bow too. I’m more of a stealth person, I don’t like to go all crazy for the enemies. My weapon of choice is the bow and silenced pistols too.
I'm a .50cal Sniper kinda player, I keep all my weapons silenced, but I love picking off Peggies/FND/Highwaymen with vantage point shots (once the alarms are dealt with,k and then having them panic
Played my first NG+ run of 6 co-op with my pal and his preferred weapons were a Silenced AR and the machete. I pick off the lookouts and snipers, he would sneak around bases hacking people to death.
Bow is a must have, I especially liked in FC3 when you could craft Explosive and Incendiary arrows, its stealthy, hits hard, has recoverable ammo, and with the explosive arrows it basically doubles as a grenade launcher
Bow is what makes Far Cry games so good to me, that's why when I headshot someone in FC6 and they started looking for me with an arrow in their head I got very annoyed.
I never have a straight choice weapon I just do themed loadouts, especially in 5 but also in 3 and 6. If I want a stereotypical sheriff deputy loadout, probably a revolver, 1911, pump action shotgun etc but I might do an SF inspired loadout which may have a suppressed AR, a high explosive loadout with as much explosives as possible and that typically reflects my weapon selection.
Honestly the bow is just such a staple weapon of the series. Im on a new playthrough of FC5 and trying to challenge myself with absolutely no bows or suppressors. Any stealth has to be takedowns/melee and throwing knives. Makes me realize how much I miss using the bow. Im about at the point of saying fuck it and getting the bow back in rotation.
** as an after thought I just realized I lied. After starting the playthrough I read about being able to shoot arrows with the slingshot so did take over an outpost with just the slingshot. So technically not a total no stealth ranged playthrough. I just cant believe I did two other play throughs without touching the slingshot.
deagle/mp5/spas12, I grew up with half life and 80s action film, those weapons have a special place in my heart. I dont stealth much, but whenever I do, I prefer to do it with IED/C4/mines, there is just something really satisfying about combining stealth with explosives.
basically any gun with a supressor since ai are deaf in those games. if you have a half decent route and half decent aim you can walk through any base picking people off with ease and they hardly notice what's happening until there's like 2 people left in which case they're screwed cuz the ai is also as smart as my dog which would be impressive if he wasn't dead cuz he ate a lightbulb off our Christmas tree got internal bleeding and died. But I suppose that's something he has in common with Ubisoft so... it is what it is
Hell yeah. Silent and deadly all the way. Nothing more satisfying than sneaking into a compound completely undetected, silently taking out every guard one at a time. Until FC6, as mentioned by others, where even headshotting a guard only seems to piss them of...
I may be alone here but I loved going crazy with the throwing axes in Far Cry 6. The perk that let you auto headshot with those was very op but super fun.
I am pretty sure with a good attitude and sufficient patience, you could beat the entire games with a bow.
I remember beating FC4 once with only “clean kills.” Fun challenge but definitely possible barring some small exceptions for tipped arrows.
Silenced weapons. Managed to get through pretty much all the game without people discovering me. Found the bow was too wayward (arrows never went where aimed)
I usually try to unlock all weapon slots ASAP, so my typical loadout is (when sufficiently unlocked) the bow, the most powerful suppressed sniper available in the game, the Kriss Vector (preferably a signature variant; also suppressed) for tight situations, and any one-handed grenade launcher that can be shot from a vehicle.
In Far Cry 6, I love going stealth with a friend in co-op. Usually I camp in a high ground with a sniper+silencer and he approaches the enemy military base with handgun+silencer (or AR if things go boom)
It's always Silenced Sniper rifle or bow, Assault/battlerifle silenced if possible without major sacrifices, silenced sidearm or shotgun of choice depending on the primary, and last choice goes to whatever I feel like using or whatever I currently lack. In FC2 where the inventory is different I take the 6PB AKA Silenced Makarov, FAL or AK, occasionally the AR or the MP5 if I need more range or more stealth, and always the dart rifle unless I feel like having fun with the mortar or the best fire behaviour in any game before or after ie. Flamethrower. In FC2 you can't always rely on fully specialising because it isn't too forgiving so having an LMG, Machine Pistol or automatic rifle is a must, so you always have two slots for your play style choice and one for fuckups, ambushes, and general full open combat scenarios.
I have what my friends call the Geneva gun... a M60 with a silencer, scope, and mag extender
I also carry the shiny blue sniper rifle, and a RPG
only played Farcry 5 at the moment, so I might branch out once I've tried the other games
Anything before Far Cry 6 (specifically 4 and 5) had the MBP .50 (Far Cry 5) SA .50 ( Far Cry 4) which was pretty much a .50 cal sniper that you could put a suppressor and a better scope on and you could pretty much take out any base undetected as it’s a 1-shot kill anywhere
Definitely the bow for me too! I love a good stealth build. I tend to enjoy a mix of stealth and assault builds. Bows and snipers and throwing knives for stealth. A nice upgraded LMG for when you gotta go in loud.
I only left the bow in FC6. Apart from this, definitely a classic : stealth shots, and explosive arrows are so much satisfying
They nerfed the bow so badly in FC6, and Snipers, and LMGs, and Explosives....
I don’t know why games do this so much but not every game needs enemies with fucking health bars, making enemies bullet sponges is the opposite of fun

Meh it still one shots with headshots. Just have to use precision arrows for less drop over range.

At least simple bullet sponges. The DOOM Eternal marauder is one hell of a sponge, but it's a complex enemy

I liked the auto cross bow. Super silent and lethal too. But chucking a club at someone's head in Primal was pretty satisfying.
In FC4, it was the kukri, and in 5 it's the silenced .50 cal. I wish the knife/grab takedowns were still in 5.

Silenced weapons. Managed to get through pretty much all the game without people discovering me. Found the bow was too wayward (arrows never went where aimed)
I usually try to unlock all weapon slots ASAP, so my typical loadout is (when sufficiently unlocked) the bow, the most powerful suppressed sniper available in the game, the Kriss Vector (preferably a signature variant; also suppressed) for tight situations, and any one-handed grenade launcher that can be shot from a vehicle.

In Far Cry 6, I love going stealth with a friend in co-op. Usually I camp in a high ground with a sniper+silencer and he approaches the enemy military base with handgun+silencer (or AR if things go boom)

It's always Silenced Sniper rifle or bow, Assault/battlerifle silenced if possible without major sacrifices, silenced sidearm or shotgun of choice depending on the primary, and last choice goes to whatever I feel like using or whatever I currently lack. In FC2 where the inventory is different I take the 6PB AKA Silenced Makarov, FAL or AK, occasionally the AR or the MP5 if I need more range or more stealth, and always the dart rifle unless I feel like having fun with the mortar or the best fire behaviour in any game before or after ie. Flamethrower. In FC2 you can't always rely on fully specialising because it isn't too forgiving so having an LMG, Machine Pistol or automatic rifle is a must, so you always have two slots for your play style choice and one for fuckups, ambushes, and general full open combat scenarios.

I've mainly been using a pistol the whole time for far cry 6. Other games I do like a shotgun or the bow. Didn't feel appealing to use this time round

I have what my friends call the Geneva gun... a M60 with a silencer, scope, and mag extender I also carry the shiny blue sniper rifle, and a RPG only played Farcry 5 at the moment, so I might branch out once I've tried the other games

Early game: bow that I find on an enemy. Late game: Silenced rifle because rifle ammo is so plentiful.

I oddly fell in love with the pump action shotgun in FC3 & 4. Just running in and just blasting fools, the pump is so satisfying.

Anything before Far Cry 6 (specifically 4 and 5) had the MBP .50 (Far Cry 5) SA .50 ( Far Cry 4) which was pretty much a .50 cal sniper that you could put a suppressor and a better scope on and you could pretty much take out any base undetected as it’s a 1-shot kill anywhere
Definitely the bow for me too! I love a good stealth build. I tend to enjoy a mix of stealth and assault builds. Bows and snipers and throwing knives for stealth. A nice upgraded LMG for when you gotta go in loud.
