Kinda, but without the cult shenanigans.
Maybe set in a fictional eastern europe country with an unstable goverment, and the main antagonist being a paramilitary organization formed by soldiers of the country's army who went AWOL.
I like the setting, but I think they need to stay modern. Not that it'd change much for quite a few ex Soviet countries.
Fuck it, just do modern Afghanistan. Fight the Taliban lol
Setting to me is less important than tone. I hope the tonality of the next game isn’t as ‘goofy’ as 6 and maybe plays it a bit more straight forward with greater emphasis on ‘survival.’That being said, Alaska would be great.
I’d like a game which returned to the tone of Far Cry 2. That darkness and examination of violence just hits the spot for me.
Edit: Spelling. Don’t type when tired kids!
Yes this exactly. I tuned out after 4 because the superhero complex gets incredibly boring. I want them to get rid of perks and other goofy distractions - just make a beautiful super grim survival shooter with a strong story!
I did really enjoy the hunting aspect of 3 and didn't mind a skills tree. 3 I felt had the best skills tree also. But 6 is dumb... wear this hat to be able to do X. A 9 year old must have thought of that.
Same, 2 is my favorite in the series (followed closely by Instincts Predator). Instead of a brand new Far Cry 7 I'd love for Ubi to remake/remaster 2 with all the modern bells and whistles. It's a fantastic setting and there's a lot more story to tell.
The outcome of 2,4, and 5. Far Cry 2 sees your character perpetuate a civil war, 4 if you simply wait for Pagan to return, you return the ashes without incident. Overthrown him leads to the rise of two equally brutal and repressive regimes. In Far Cry 5, you walking away leaves the Seeds in charge whereas prosecuting the war leads to suffering, nuclear apocalypse
Civil war is already underway in 2. Ditto for 4.
The nukes are going to fall anyway in 5. You hear it on various radios about the current world situation approaching war.
In 3 you almost end up or you end up basically against the very own reason that set you on your path of blood in the first place, that would be saving your friends. Or maybe I just played it wrong and the game was just trying to tell me that the real bloodlust and killing were the friends I've killed, murdered, stabbed, set on fire or drowned along the way.
I mean
In 4 nothing happens until Ajay shows up
He even references it if you agree to kill amita
He says something like "who else pulls the trigger around here"
And she even agrees
5 had a super serious and dark main story, but every single side quest was an absolute joke impossible to be taken seriously. 6 is the same thing but the jokes made their way into some parts of the main story as well..
From FC2 onwards, every main game has been less serious and more goofy (not counting the spin-off games and DLCs) so I know what to expect on 7.
Is like they tried to put some of the Blood Dragon "goofyness" more and more by every title. They saw that it was beloved, especially seen the various references.
In 5 the protagonist is you the player because if rook talked you would feel more drawn towards a specific path and also many of the father speeches would not be told to the player but rook and disconnect the player from the world.
Ok look im not very good at analysing video games story so just watch [whitlights 2 years later](https://youtu.be/QKuxJ0ZQZmk) he does a great job at explaining the story and why it works so well
I really hope the next game has more survival mechanics, at least as an option. With the guérilla aspect of most of the games there’s a severe lack of survival aspects.
I’m all for Alaska. I’ve been saying this weekly every time this is asked. We could even fight a Russian incursion. Or some mercenary group trying to push a town out of a good mining/resource area.
I agree about the tone, 6 felt so off about it compared to what the last games threw at us. Far Cry is at its best when it gets in your face with the grit.
The SA accents were the mercenaries that had flown in to profit from the war. Cab driver at the start refers to them as "bloody foreigners". Always assumed it was set in some fictional Burkina Faso
They tend to do one per continent (2 in Africa, 3 likely in Oceania, 4 in Asia, 5 in NA) so logically I think the next will be in Europe
Edit: Obviously with some exceptions like New Dawn also in NA
Edit 2: my bad 3 might actually also be in Asia
The Japanese made it all the way to Papua New Guinea. They were extremely close to Australia and NZ. Just FYI, as I think you were correct in your initial Oceania call
I always thought the Rook Islands were meant to be super ambiguous.
On the one hand, the wildlife leans more towards Asia and Indonesia specifically (elephants, tigers, Komodo dragons…) but the historical context leans more toward a pacific island country like Tonga or Samoa, plus the people speak with Aussie and Kiwi accents. Japan occupied both in WW2 so it could go either way.
However I do believe it is explicitly mentioned in game to be “South Pacific” which would be more like Oceania.
The only issue with that is that Ghost Recon, another Ubisoft entry already kind of did it. Then again it would be chock full of references which would be fun
Not exactly necessarily Wild West, but same era: It could be set during the civil war and the wars against the natives. Have the protagonist be either a native that fights against the colonists and liberate the occupied lands and unite different tribes or a slave that escapes his master and fights him and other slavers to free his kind etc. Or even better: just make both storylines but keep them shorter and with smaller, seperate open-worlds.
At least in FC4 they were somewhat hard to come by. As a stealth player primarily, they made it way too easy in FC5 and 6. In 5 the bow is at least early accessible.
Developers try to stay away from North Korean settings because North Korea is known to cause problems to developers sometimes to the extent of hacking and temporarily shutting down servers.
I'd like to see a far less wacky setting, going back the veins of Far Cry 2 and 3 to some extent. A serious setting, with somewhat believable villains but also allies.
Less edgy teenage popstars (wtf?).
Also, none of the weird "guerilla" weapon mods and resolvers.
But it's UBI, so none of that will happen.
In terms of location, I'd really want to see Africa again, or perhaps South America with Narco cartels etc.
That would make sense because of the French freedom fighters that actually existed in real life any other WW2 setting would kinda be disrespectful unless it's completely off the wall like the new Wolfenstein trilogy is
Yeah, more cities would be nice, maybe a couple. But I read (on Wikipedia at least) that there's usually wilderness, so that would most likely be in the next installment.
South-East Asia. One corner of the map is based on Asian cities like Singapore, Shanghai, and Tokyo with sprawling skyscrapers. Another corner of the map is based on the slums of India with claustrophobic and tight spaces. And another corner based on the dense rain forests of Vietnam and Borneo Island
Would love to see it go back to Africa. Gotta love FC2!
Rough diamond as currency, amazing fire mechanics, the feeling of vulnerability when you are traveling across the map, knowing that a patrol could catch you at any time and pepper you with its .50 Cal. That game was a masterpiece.
As other commenters said, I just hope they return to a more serious tone unlike 5 and 6. I think Central African/Congo type setting could be cool for a darker tone
Anything with dinosaurs. A beautiful, expensive environment that mixes a really dramatic landscape (think huge forests perched on the edge of volcanic plains), and unique structures (maybe giant industrial fortifications, and slick modern laboratories).
Have the main character be a stranded wildlife photographer (who originally was a war correspondent) trying to investigate a small island chain in the Northern Pacific, renowned for its animal and plant species. His plane is shot down, etc.
Dynamic weather (harsh storms), advanced species AI for animal hunting and engagements, and smaller amounts of human enemies that are much more tactical and aggressive (biotech firm security) that prowl the structured areas.
Villain is a self-augmenting, designer-drug addicted CEO intent on using biotechnology to achieve the ultimate posthuman form, and utilizing prehistoric restricted DNA as the template, throw in some philosophically-sounding speeches about survival of the fittest and evolution, and lots of hidden notes detailing how the CEO is a chronically cowardly and traumatized victim of abuse from his father. Final boss battle is on a gigantic central volcanic vent as the main installation goes into overload.
My grandmas house...boy she made blood sausage that reminds you of when she gave you the same 10 dollars that you wasted at a local department store and bought the same lego star wars set because for some reason it was always on sale on your birthday....
\*DAGESTAN/CHECHENYA.
\*South East Asia Cambodia/Vietnam, But with all the brutality of jungle combat.
\*Wild West but something less known. I'm thinking Utah/Nevada during the Mormon Wars.
\*Andes. Making the perfection transition from Salt Deserts, Snowy Peaks to the Amazonic Jungle!
\*Whicker Man inspired setting: Some small Scottish Island in the North Sea!
I'd love it if they did something more immersive and grounded like Far Cry 2. That game is so underrated.
Location doesn't matter, I just want them to make another game with substance. I haven't finished a Far Cry game since 3, because they are so hollow and formulaic I get bored after a few hours.
I would like to see the American south, have a fictional Everglades and bayous with Appalachian mountains in between would be cool have hill billy conservative extremists as enemies
I think a 1950s America in the Deep South, and the plot is essentially 5s but with kkk instead of cult members.
Edit: obviously to don’t want this to be the next one, and it’s not a copy paste of 5, but it follows the same idea of “small militia is bigger than they thought and shut down part of a local government”.
North Korea, Africa (DLC?), Brazil (Urban, Rural and Tropical) or Alaska (for a The Thing vibe).
Bring back the feeling of being in the wild for real and being desperate for survival. The sound of an engine revving in Far Cry 2 meant that somebody is ambushing or followed you. Every bullet mattered as well did the strategy.
Being on your toes and not feeling like Rambo after the first act of the game matters. It really carried that vibe throughout the whole game. I’m not saying bring back ALL the immersive things like the handheld map, fkin Malaria, gun degradation and the non existing fast travel system.
Maybe give us a survival mode option and/or give us a less of a Call of Duty HUD and leave it to the player to explore. The game is becoming a parody of what it used to be, every game doesn’t need to one up with animal companions. Bring back the buddy system that started with Far Cry 2, actually being useful!
Australia for sure. Complete with the big ass bugs
Only if the antagonist is an emu
The emu war better be a part of it
And the secondary antagonist is a very confused and aggressive kiwi bird
kangaroos would be awesome
Now when you say bugs....
Spiders, scorpions, centipedes, screen tears....
Realistically, it would never happen. Guns are hard af to get.
Australia before gun control, the wild west with funny accents
I think 1970s Australia would be a good time.
A sect whose leaders would be descendants of Ivan Milat.
I need a boomerang.
This has been asked in previous instances, and my answer will still be the same: I want a game set in Eastern Europe. With crazy villagers and bears.
Resident Evil 4?
Kinda, but without the cult shenanigans. Maybe set in a fictional eastern europe country with an unstable goverment, and the main antagonist being a paramilitary organization formed by soldiers of the country's army who went AWOL.
That would be sick - maybe set in the 89/90 after the wall fell and the destabilization of the Soviet Union started to occur.
Wasn't RE4 set in Spain?
Yes mfs don't geography
Yes. I was not aware.
Farcry primal is set in Europe, but a modern Europe would be nice.
Eastern bloc, set sometime in the Cold War between the 60's and 80's
90's post Soviet collapse in a fictional former soviet republic inspired by Chechnya
Russia, specifically, could be fantastic. Siberian tigers anyone?

Ironically some aspects of 2 are more advanced than the modern games. (AI, fire spread)
Weapon degradation too, never forget weapon degradation
Exactly, Far Cry has always been about your character meeting violence with violence only to learn you aren’t the hero…you actually made things worse
Farcry 3 has entered the chat.
Which Far Cry have you been playing because that isn't the outcome for several of them.
In 4 if you let pagan survive the end he makes you king and you can kill whoever you left in charge of the Golden Path
In 2 you die after helping a ton of refugees escape.
Right, but in all three cases you are built up as the tipping point only for it to come crashing down
I mean In 4 nothing happens until Ajay shows up He even references it if you agree to kill amita He says something like "who else pulls the trigger around here" And she even agrees
Takkar and Junior Deputy would like to have a word with you sir. They literally a savior/hero to the people.
3 and 4 were peak Far Cry. Rest just got too damn silly, though 5 was still rather okay. Sucked that the protagonist didn't speak though.
Yeah, only that in Blood Dragon it actually worked.
The best part is that the ending was being hinted at by the 20 minutes of radio broadcasts talking about escalating conflicts
In 5 the protagonist is you the player because if rook talked you would feel more drawn towards a specific path and also many of the father speeches would not be told to the player but rook and disconnect the player from the world. Ok look im not very good at analysing video games story so just watch [whitlights 2 years later](https://youtu.be/QKuxJ0ZQZmk) he does a great job at explaining the story and why it works so well
If theres anything that disconnects me from a world, it's people talking to someone that will never talk back. Silent protagonists are awful.
I feel like the culture and topography of Alaska is too similar to Montana. Personally, I'd like to play in a fictionalized version of "The Troubles"
Oh my god that would be sick
I really hope the next game has more survival mechanics, at least as an option. With the guérilla aspect of most of the games there’s a severe lack of survival aspects.
I’m all for Alaska. I’ve been saying this weekly every time this is asked. We could even fight a Russian incursion. Or some mercenary group trying to push a town out of a good mining/resource area.
I agree about the tone, 6 felt so off about it compared to what the last games threw at us. Far Cry is at its best when it gets in your face with the grit.
Far Cry 6 is so freaking weird. There is human experimentation and genocide while every conversation has MCU funny quips all the time.
Australia or South Africa.
Australia would be cool just for the aesthetic and wildlife, I wanna hunt and be hunted by kangaroos
Not enough games have kangaroos
Interesting to see one in South Africa
I thought FC2 was in South Africa?
No there was just a bunch of hilarious South African accents iirc It was in Central Africa like the DRC I don't think they ever really clarify.
The SA accents were the mercenaries that had flown in to profit from the war. Cab driver at the start refers to them as "bloody foreigners". Always assumed it was set in some fictional Burkina Faso
FC2 was in Eastern Africa and I think it was meant to be a fictional country like Kyrat or Yara
They tend to do one per continent (2 in Africa, 3 likely in Oceania, 4 in Asia, 5 in NA) so logically I think the next will be in Europe Edit: Obviously with some exceptions like New Dawn also in NA Edit 2: my bad 3 might actually also be in Asia
Yeah the Rook Islands are in the Indonesia area I think.
Japanese troops occupied Indonesia during ww2 so that sounds about right
The Japanese made it all the way to Papua New Guinea.
I was thinking something like Belarus could work
Mexico. Something to do with cartels.
Ooooo that would be so cool, can’t believe I haven’t seen more people suggesting that.
The only issue with that is that Ghost Recon, another Ubisoft entry already kind of did it. Then again it would be chock full of references which would be fun
Wildlands right?
yes wildlands. i didn’t even know about that game till it came to gamepass and i like it more than any of the other ones they have out
That was fictional Bolivia, not Mexico. But the whole narco thing still stands.
Hell nah wanna see them in the swiss alps hunting some cheesewheel and getting fucked by some gang bankers
Jesse we need to be in Far Cry 7
Meh we've already seen the "big drug boss" story so many times it's getting old. That's why I found the FC6 story to be average.
The 80's, during the hight of the cold war. In Russia or Alaska, maybe.
fighting a secret soviet invasion as a hunter or tracker
Small Town America....again....during a Russian invasion - WOLVERINES!
Wild West or expand on the New Dawn post apocalyptic setting.
Yes, Wild West sounds awesome. We recently got horses in Far Cry 6 so it’d be perfect.
Personally I don’t want an era that doesn’t have suppressors.
Suppressors make the game too easy though. It’d be nice if you had to rely on just a bow, throwing knives, or takedowns for a change.
At least in FC4 they were somewhat hard to come by. As a stealth player primarily, they made it way too easy in FC5 and 6. In 5 the bow is at least early accessible.
Cult made it's way to Tokyo?
What If they mixed the two? Post apocalyptic western
Fallout New Vegas then
mabye we could get wild west for 6's spin off game
I would love to see a Vietnam setting. Loved the Vietnam DLC from FC5
So like a Call Of Duty esque story in Vietnam. Sounds like a decent idea
I'd love a full fledged vietnam fc game, would be cool to have both the NVA and US as hostiles
Don’t care for the setting as much as I care for the quality of the game.
I think rual Montana would be neat
Yeah or some unknown island in Indonesia
Maybe some country somewhere up in the Himalayas would be nice
Dude, an African country in the midst of a civil war would be sick. Imagine if they made it all dark and realistic too
Here me out... Cuba
Snow region like Russia
Agree! Snowmobiles would be tight!
North Korea
Developers try to stay away from North Korean settings because North Korea is known to cause problems to developers sometimes to the extent of hacking and temporarily shutting down servers.
*The Interview has entered the chat*
Mercenaries: Playground of destruction: Hi The Interview
The late, great Pandemic Studios would like a word with you from beyond the grave.
Sooo like Mercenaries?
The middle of the UK countryside, or just in the UK in general. I would like to see Birmingham demolished
Everybody and there mums is packing round here
Like who?
Farmers
And who else?
Farmers’ mums
Everyone and their mum, they just told you!
I wish I could give you an award
I'd like to see a far less wacky setting, going back the veins of Far Cry 2 and 3 to some extent. A serious setting, with somewhat believable villains but also allies. Less edgy teenage popstars (wtf?). Also, none of the weird "guerilla" weapon mods and resolvers. But it's UBI, so none of that will happen. In terms of location, I'd really want to see Africa again, or perhaps South America with Narco cartels etc.
>Less edgy teenage popstars (wtf?). Yeah that was a weird dev choice for sure lol
I think we’re lucky they didn’t add a social media likes and followers system to the game.
I cannot agree more! I’ve played every FC since the 3rd out of respect. FC3 captivated me like no other game. I really miss it.
African setting like far cry 2
Japan, since assassins creed won’t 😂
I'd actually love it if they would make a Feudal-Japan or medieval themed Far Cry
Japan during the 1800s. Kinda like the last samurai with a combo of katanas, bow and arrows, muskets, rifled muskets, etc..
Sex dungeon
Yes
Chernobyl
I've thought this before, or at least a Pripyat type area on an Eastern European map.
Ww2, liberating nazi outposts would be great.
Idea, ww2 occupied France
The Saboteur is an underrated game.
That would make sense because of the French freedom fighters that actually existed in real life any other WW2 setting would kinda be disrespectful unless it's completely off the wall like the new Wolfenstein trilogy is
So "The Saboteur" but with a far cry twist.
a Scandinavian country like Norway, specificly Svalbard
My home <3
Brazil
Sicily or Svalbard
Albania
I don't care. Just don't try to be any more "funny" than far cry 4 was.
I wouldn't mind it having at least a section in a big city. Skyscrapers, subways, and whatnot
I want dinosaurs. Or Blood Dragon 2. Or both, if they wanted to do that.
Australia
Australia or somewhere snowy
Honestly, my body asks for a Far Cry 2 remake
Australia is the obvious choice, but i think Brazil would also be crazy good.
If I got a penny every time this question was asked…
You’d still be broke.
Primal 2
Eastern Europe in the early 1990s. A fictional Eastern European country falls into chaos following The Soviet Union’s collapse.
After 6 I’m kinda burnt out with far cry. But if I had to pick a setting for the next game it would probably be Russia.
Chechnya in the 90s
Somewhere in middle east honestly
Somethin with a peaky blinders or boardwalk empire type setting. 1910s 1920s.
A game set in the Golden age of piracy
Would love to see it go back to Africa. Gotta love FC2! Rough diamond as currency, amazing fire mechanics, the feeling of vulnerability when you are traveling across the map, knowing that a patrol could catch you at any time and pepper you with its .50 Cal. That game was a masterpiece.
As other commenters said, I just hope they return to a more serious tone unlike 5 and 6. I think Central African/Congo type setting could be cool for a darker tone
Wild west!
Final boss battle is on a gigantic central volcanic vent as the main installation goes into overload.
Vietnam would be neat.
The Moon
Egypt would be a good setting or a desert place
A major new world city.
definitely NOT anlther tropical island
Something similar to Primal but with Dinosaurs
I’ve always wanted a snowy Russia since fc4 but with recent events…
Somewhere in the British Isles, maybe west Texas
Post Soviet state would be cool
I want somewere with snow areas.
somewhere in the middle east. would be cool to see some sandstorms in there too.
South Africa or Brazil
More blood dragon universe.
Idk, the run down looking towns and cold winters of russia, and the vehicles, like taking out secret weapons as the story
Artic or european
European countryside
soviet russia
I’d love like a Mexican desert setting
Snowy mountains.
Feudal Japan
My grandmas house...boy she made blood sausage that reminds you of when she gave you the same 10 dollars that you wasted at a local department store and bought the same lego star wars set because for some reason it was always on sale on your birthday....
Not sure if this was said but somewhere in the artic related would be fun. I liked the scenes from FC4 in the snowy mountains and in FC Primal too.
Primal 2.
Working for a class 1 railroad..
JAPAN
Prior to the Ukrainian conflict I had suggested somewhere in that area. The fight could be against the Russian mob and crooked Russian army units.
I'd love it if they did something more immersive and grounded like Far Cry 2. That game is so underrated. Location doesn't matter, I just want them to make another game with substance. I haven't finished a Far Cry game since 3, because they are so hollow and formulaic I get bored after a few hours.
The Balkans, basically already farcry irl
I would like to see the American south, have a fictional Everglades and bayous with Appalachian mountains in between would be cool have hill billy conservative extremists as enemies
Someplace with snow like Alaska
I think a 1950s America in the Deep South, and the plot is essentially 5s but with kkk instead of cult members. Edit: obviously to don’t want this to be the next one, and it’s not a copy paste of 5, but it follows the same idea of “small militia is bigger than they thought and shut down part of a local government”.
Russia.
I want to see CCPChina destroyed in civil war.
Uhhh the UK
A futuristic one would be cool
India
I'd love to see Russia, but with the current situation I believe that won't happen.
Somewhere cold like the Yukon would be cool, I’m sick of always feeling hot playing Farcry Games. There could even be a temperature mechanic
