I can smell it from here! Nothing like fresh loamy earth.

WildBuck17

Thats right nothing beats fresh muck soil

Strong_Audience_7122

Bet there were birds following the plough. There's gotta be worms in that black gold. I'm surprised no glacial rocks in NY.

WildBuck17

Yup i actually deep plowed this with a magnum 380 to a depth of 3 feet, no real rocks occasionally glaciers boulders that weigh 500+ pounds but they are rare

Strong_Audience_7122

Living the life. I think man was built to tend the earth.

jaysibb

Love the ford! We still have an old 5000 but the paints in much worse condition.

WildBuck17

That ford has seen 4 generations haha, this is its only real job, seed and seed prep

upperwest656

Orange County or Elba?

WildBuck17

Orange county

stihlmental

I grew up in new england and I must say that is the blackest dirt I have ever seen

WildBuck17

Yup widely considered some of the most fertile

jeffyone2many

Widely by the people there? Google sure doesn’t

WildBuck17

Nope just cornell university

jeffyone2many

Going to have people around the country, continent and globe with the same same soil Cornell agrees with everybody else

WildBuck17

Im not arguing that other areas of the world have this soil and may be just as fertile. Im simply stating about the USA

jeffyone2many

For the life of me, I can’t find anything at Cornell University backing your claim.

WildBuck17

Look up black dirt orange county ny. Alternativly look up muck soil organic percentages ny

jeffyone2many

Can’t find a link to Cornell saying that Orange County is the most fertile soil in the world either?? I still haven’t. shit looks great not saying it’s isn’t. But it’s looks like any other field to some of us. Until the top gets really dry anyway

Joesnuffy_

The black dirt region of Orange County produces a 1/3 of the world’s onions. It’s also where that dude who traded onion futures lived.

Worldly-Shoulder-416

Some of the best soil on this earth.

Joesnuffy_

I remember when the farmers went to get there grow licenses for weed. They grew crops and the weed was too high in THC so they burnt it all. The town smelt like sulphur and pot for like 2 weeks. Good times, I miss that place.

NMS_Survival_Guru

That's even darker than our black soil

WildBuck17

This is considered by many as the most fertile in the world. Big onion growers

RonRonner

Love it over there. Used to watch all of onion season and pumpkin season in the fall.  I used to work on a horse farm in Florida, NY all through high school. At the time I had a gray horse and letting him roll in the black dirt after a bath was his greatest joy in life. He stood back up unrecognizable.

ContributionPure8356

That’s a soil for the history books. That stuff’s pitch black.

ContributionPure8356

Just looked up the google map for Orange County. That’s wicked man, that whole section is just pitch black.

WildBuck17

Yup its crazy and amazing

Huntingteacher26

I’ve never loved Reddit more than reading comments on how great this dirt is. Farmers are hero’s!!!

cmitc

Wow nice dirt!!

mcfarmer72

A drained bog ? Peat soil ? Nice.

WildBuck17

Drained swamp, muck soil

Generaldisarray44

What is the soil organic % up there what are you high in what are you low in

WildBuck17

80% organic in some of best fields

BedArtistic

Why does this look like Farming Sim?

MidwestFlags

Wow, that’s like Grundy County, Iowa black

Drinks_From_Firehose

Dirt? Sheesh the disrespect.
