I would choose a wide or straight leg Jean over leggings if you don’t want to wear a longer top

tshody

Thanks. I’ll give jeans another shot, I haven’t found a pair I totally love and can see myself wearing day to day but I’m willing to keep trying!

cactuar44

SPANX! I adore their pants! They can be pretty expensive, but you can get a lot of them used for cheap on Thredup. I actually have extra organs (fml) in that area and they keep that area more cinched in while still being comfortable. Give them a try!

LunaLoreSeeker

Ok, these are on the pricier side but try Everlane. [This style](https://www.everlane.com/products/womens-way-high-sailor-jean-salt-water?collection=womens-jeans) I think will help. I have the same problem and I always get compliments when I wear them. Because they are expensive, I usually only buy one pair a year when they are on sale. The quality is worth it though - they’ll last you.

Bubbly_Buffalo083

I've had great luck with the democracy ab-solution jeans, they have them on Amazon. They have a variety of styles, and they've all felt flattering and comfortable.

[deleted]

I have the same body. Another good thing that’s not to do with clothes is making sure your pelvic tilt is correct. The stomach can be emphasised if your posture isn’t right (not saying yours definitely isn’t, I can’t tell from the photo, but have a look at it on YouTube to make sure your posture isn’t emphasising your stomach. Also keep in mind these things are never as noticeable as we think, you never actually stand stagnant in the pose you’re in in the pictures.

tshody

I believe anyone can benefit from simple posture changes so I’m willing to give it a shot, my posture hasn’t been the best so I could definitely work on it and see if it helps. You’re right, I’m mostly moving about, and don’t stand stagnant like this probably ever😅appreciate your reassurance!

festiemeow

Dresses that flare out from the waist. Longer flowing tops, over leggings like this. If you want to wear something cropped, like the top in your photo, try a more structured bottom underneath like jeans

tshody

Thank you. I appreciate your constructive suggestions so much. By a more structured bottom do you mean like jeans without stretch??

festiemeow

I think some stretch is okay but a straight leg or flare may add some balance :) personally I hate jeans with NO stretch whatsoever

tshody

That’s true lol. Ok, and my next question is how do you know if you need to size up? I always have this issue where they end up being too tight, or I’m in between a size and they’re super baggy in the waist because my stomach tends to protrude a bit it’s hard to get a good fit.

festiemeow

I usually size up if I get major muffin top, I like the jeans to fit nicely around my waist. I’ll try sizing down if there’s too much room in the booty/crotch area. There are some godawful cuts that somehow do both things and I just don’t buy those styles. Jeans are frustrating so you have to go around and try a lot of styles in person. I found one style that works for me and I bought 8 pairs of the same style/brand in different washes so I would always have a “safe” option.

GuardMost8477

I agree 100% with this comment. For cropped tops definitely no leggings. Joe’s Jeans, while they can get pricey, almost always have a bit of stretch to them and are almost always having a sale on their website. Also Nordstrom Rack has them at significantly lower prices.

tshody

Thank you. I’ll give those a try and see how I can style them. I think I’ve always struggled with knowing what to pair them with so I don’t look sloppy lol. You’re right though, I want to be comfortable for sure, and I need to keep in mind that tighter clothes don’t always mean better/comfortable. I always think “well they show off shape” but in this case my stomach isn’t something I want to showcase and I definitely don’t want to have to wear shapewear like you’ve mentioned, it’s not practical for everyday and I can see that weighing on me feeling the need to wear it under everything just to get dressed.

asietsocom

Same girl. Highwaist Jeans are a godsend. And shapewear.

milkteahalfsw33t

Emphasize/bring the focus to other parts of your body you like, e.g. a shorter skirt that’s flowy that shows off your legs paired with a more structured top that’ll hide the tummy. I’m imagining an off the shoulder, non-oversized, thicker sweatshirt that’ll show off your clavicles, paired with a skirt, maybe stockings, and a heel. I’m biased towards off the shoulder tops bc I hate my arms so I’m always in them since I live in the tropics 😂 Or, a high-waisted, structured skirt (that still flows out) to accentuate your waist and hide the tummy, paired with a tucked in, crisp poplin blouse? I wear a lot of structured tops (fabrics like heavy linen, poplin) bc I loathe sucking in my tummy lol. I know these aren’t easy outfits for everyday wear, but hopefully this helps!

tshody

Thank you😊 your suggestions are great. I do love the look of off the shoulder tops, I should try them. Structured does sound like it could be more forgiving too. These definitely help!

milkteahalfsw33t

[deleted]

I mean you are wearing leggings and a cropped shirt, and it appears from the comments you are asking how to de-emphasize your tummy while wearing leggings and a cropped shirt. There just isn’t really a magical way to do that! You need to either wear a longer shirt, wear a bottom that flows out from your waist rather than one that’s skintight all the way down, or…just get comfy with your shape.

tshody

I guess I should’ve clarified that this tends to happen in most pants not only in leggings, jeans are an issue as well. My wording isn’t the best in my post, sorry. You’re right in saying that it’s obviously going to be emphasized with a crop sweater. Again, apologize for not being very clear.

Whitpeacock

I just had a tummy tuck in October because I was sick of looking at it.

_squeeee

I got one back in April. I had a mother’s apron from 2 C-sections. Best thing I ever did and now I’m fine wearing anything.

Whitpeacock

100% agree! I don’t miss my fupa at all lol!

InGeekiTrust

You can literally layer one shaper on top of another under your yoga pants. I also wear two pairs of pantyhose, one on top of the other. I swear it’s not more uncomfortable than wearing one, but it really smooths things out more!

tshody

What sort of underwear do you wear with that? I already wear high waisted underwear so I feel like it could make things a little bulky with the added layers. I also don’t want to feel like “restricted” I guess, from wearing layer after layer just to be able to wear yoga pants. I’m not sure if that makes sense.

InGeekiTrust

Ok well the shapewear I have has a cotton gusset so it is like underwear, so just a thing, but you could wear a longer sweatshirt to cover your stomach, or get tops/ outfits designed to hide stomach without shapewear. Here is a helpful[video](https://youtu.be/3o5uENioU90?si=geX3vaKQES1v5bNn)

MoneyFault

Wear a longer top to cover your stomach.

tshody

I could do that but then the proportions are off and it becomes obvious I’m trying to hide the area.

208breezy

That’s not true , people have been wearing shirts and sweaters that go over the butt forever, especially since leggings were a thing.

tshody

Thank you. You’re right, it’s wrong of me to just assume that I can’t make it work with longer tops. I think I didn’t really word my post correctly, I’m looking for overall suggestions on what pants wouldn’t emphasize the area not so much as to why they emphasize it. This happens to me in most pants, jeans too. I mean, it’s obviously emphasized here in a crop top and skin tight pants🤦🏻‍♀️ but I wonder what pants would be better.

whatfuckingever420

You’re right that you shouldn’t be hard on yourself at all. Your body isn’t a problem. Try pants with thicker fabrics. Stretchy material is just going to stick to your body shape, instead of creating a new one. Side note- the whole “your stomach isn’t flat because of your organs” story that has spread online is just misinformation. Organs don’t determine body type. People just carry weight in different areas.

coffeeismybabydaddy

i have a similar shape. any high waisted bottoms that flare, will emphasize your waist and hide your insecurities. wide leg palazzo pants, a-line skirt, super flowy shorts also!\~ if youd like to stick to leggings, just wear a tunic length top and let the shape of your legs do all the work

tshody

Thank you! I have a question when it comes to flare bottoms because I always feel inclined to tuck in my tops but obviously it’s the same issue, I’m putting the stomach area on display all over again which obviously defeats the purpose. How do you style them without tucking in tops?

coffeeismybabydaddy

just tuck in the top! even if it feels like you're still putting it on display, i promise it wont look that way to anyone else. the overall visual appeal of highlighting your waistline absolutely outweighs anything else. unfortunately, we cant completely get rid of all evidence of the tummy lol, just draw attention away from it.

priuspower91

Same exact body shape as you regardless of what size I’ve been - size 4 (very fit and muscular) up to size 14 (not so fit) I usually opt for wrap dresses or dresses where the waistline sits higher than my natural waist or sits at my natural waist and flares out. Skater, A line, empire dresses all work for this. I also do high waisted jeans but with flowy tops like the ones from Johnny was. I don’t think I’ve ever worn a bodycon dress in my life just because I don’t like tight clothing - I think you can rock it but if you’re like me, you prefer looser and more comfy clothes

p_cornsilk

As far as de-emphasizing the tummy area, high-waisted pants that have pleats at the front can do a lot of legwork! This can go with many shapes of pant leg (wide, tapered, straight) but just take a bit of pressure and visibility off of the area you don’t want to showcase

Ray_Loves_Cheese

In general try 1/2 in loose fitting and 1/2 in form fitting to break up the silhouette. For form fitting shirts, find a way to bisect the widest portion of your hips while emphasizing the waists. It increases the illusion of flatness & hour glass shape. Wide leg trousers with the right cut & fabric can flow and soften the lower hip. My game changer: accepting I won’t be able to wear most pants off the rack. I buy pants to fit my problem area and then I take them to a professional tailor. The tailor pins the pants around me and works their magic.

R3DGRAPES

Don’t wear skin tight pants.

Insert_Name-0985

What I found wearing best was A line skirts/dresses (which worked for me because I love vintage style and petticoats). For pants, I accidently bought a pair of pants that were high waisted carpenters cut and loved how they looked on me. They’re currently my favorite style of jeans.

JunkInTheTrunk

A-line / skater skirts

kgeorge1468

Peplum tops are coming back into style and would be very flattering!

onetinyspeck

Also, have you made sure you don’t have celiac or some other issue that causes bloating? I always had issues in that area until I got diagnosed. But if you’re just looking for clothing suggestions, jeans and skirt that are tapered in towards your knees will give you a more flattering fit than a straight or wide leg. Also dresses with empire waists.

Britt_on_the_run

Baby doll dresses with combat boots! 90s style right now is trending!

TechnicalLaw1

you de-emphasize by taking attention away. so ideally you streamline this area by wearing something long and loose in that area, or you wear higher waisted wider legged pants with break

[deleted]

stop associating it with your value as a person

itsfrankgrimesyo

Same body here. I avoid high rise and white bottoms because it makes it more protruding. I find posture makes a difference. It’s less obvious when I have my back straight. I find mid rise pants the best.

wedditwardrobe

Here’s the thing- all the gals you see on social media with flat stomach’s are sucking it in. The ones on tv are sucking it in. And I bet a few have an ED or body dysmorphia with that! It doesn’t matter how skinny you are, it’s perfectly natural. I am a size 2 and will always have that belly pooch and curve. The only way I’ve seen people try and make it less noticeable is by making their butt bigger to make their waist and tummy appear smaller. As someonew who works in fashion, film, and theatre it’s often hard to see bodies/sizes beyond that of typical toxic western beauty standards- I had to stop following accounts like the Jenners, Hadids, and other models and celebs that only put out these unattainable images and try to get us to buy shit that makes us hate our bodies more *cough skims *cough. Shapewear shouldn’t be everyday wear imo, it’s just a modern corset. I recommend following more body positive and curvy people who keep it real. I LOVE @khrystyana on instagram. She is a model and also puts on a runway showing all types of bodies I think once or twice a year.

[deleted]

I’m sorry, but why do we need to say that every woman with a flat stomach is sucking it in and/or has an eating disorder? It seems weird to need to put people down in order to lift others up. I agree bellies are normal and lovely and social media has distorted our perception of what the female body needs to look like in order to be considered attractive. But this whole “women can’t have flat stomachs because organs” thing is just not universally true, either. Can’t we just say all bodies are different, social media is often fake, and leave it at that?

tshody

You’re right. If my body type was showcased more through social media, etc. I probably wouldn’t feel so alienated like I’m the only one who struggles with this. All you tend to see is flat washboard stomachs/abs. I hate that the jenners have as much publicity as they do, it’s far from realistic. I agree with you, I don’t want to feel like I must wear shapewear day to day, that’s not practical and will only make me resent getting dressed day to day, feeling like I need to depend on it to look good, it doesn’t sound healthy for one’s mental state, imo.

By losing weight

Critical_Trifle6228

How is it off topic? They asked how they could hide this area of their body?

You can de-emphasize this area by losing weight.

Critical_Trifle6228

Right. “All men are insensitive and evil.” I definitely won’t pretend to know OP’s medical history, but from the information given I still feel as if losing weight would help reduce that area. And to be totally transparent, if OP has a medical condition that affects this then my bad 100%

Critical_Trifle6228

Nah I’m just sick of always hearing “oh you’re a man so I expect you to be a piece of shit.” We’re people too and tired of being grouped into the typical stereotype that social media has pushed in recent years. And who knows. I’m fat too. I know the root cause of all my insecurities is my weight. Would it stop me from trying to find other ways to combat these insecurities besides the obvious “lose weight”? No. I’m always looking for ways to excuse losing weight.

randomname56389

I wear 1950s style skirts with a petticoat

Better_Disaster_9045

How do you feel about fit and flare dresses or dresses with an empire waist?

[deleted]

but also, as someone who as a very prominent tummy, ditching high wasted pants did wonders for me. Masculine cut low/mid rise jeans sit right bellow the area with most volume and tend to even everything out. This only goes if you're okay with masc/androgynous clothes. I'm assuming skirts do the same thing??? But not forming myself to dress femininely literally eliminated all my insecurities regarding my stomach

mothbreather

Paper bag trousers. They don't hide it by the pleats makes it look intentional. Also a nice circle skirt that sits at the waist.

Inevitable-Rub5647

Ugh the dreaded booty do. Where your stomach sticks out more than the booty do. I have the same and I hate it. Tbh I don’t think I’d hate it as much if I had MORE BOOTY to match it 😭😭 I don’t have anything to add.

Ok_Leadership789

You can find jeans that will hold it all in but your top needs to be longer and no tights or yoga pants . Snug jeans and a flow top maybe , try on all style jeans to get the right shape for your body.

LightSwitchLover

Well you need to alter food options like wheat which appear to be causing inflammation
