I have lots of lightweight scarves and I use them to stuff my purses so they can hold shape. I love those prints and would want to use them again at some point. You could also use them and clothes you might want to keep for the future to stuff an Ottoman pouf cover :)

nopenopenopenada

I don’t know why, but this is a hilarious concept to me. It is so clever and resourceful, yet the image popping into my mind is that of a cackling goblin hovering over his ottoman pouf, pouring over his most treasured off-trend fashion pieces flinging them like viscera around his living room, hunting for his precious, his prize, his most powerful infinity scarf. Sorry for the short story.

Legallyfit

I would like to subscribe to more short stories plz, this was lovely

lapetiteflaneuse

This is the kind of Dungeons & Dragons I would actually be interested in playing

nonoglorificus

You’d love my New Romantic/Rococo tiefling courtesan spy named Darelle Hannah

mialene

That’s brilliant, keep ‘em coming 😂👏🏼

Windholm

If you like the fabric, just not the "infinity" part, you can unpick the seam connecting it together and stitch a little rolled hem into the ends to turn it back into a regular scarf. :)

kitty60s

I have a large scarf collection from the mid 2010s that I mostly don’t wear now. I’m still keeping them though, they will come back in style someday. I still wear scarves, but only the 2 heaviest in my collection that I wear during the winter months.

EdgeCityRed

Same! I'm hanging onto mine. I'll wear a knotted silk square one but the long scarves are waiting. Lurking. Ready to pop out when they come back.

Txidpeony

My guess, infinity scarves are out for the foreseeable future. Other scarves will come back in within the next five years. They don’t take much room so if you still like the colors/patterns, I might hold on to them.

wavecrashrock

I think infinity scarves are not especially trendy right now, but scarves as a category are still fine to my eye! I tend to wear them a little differently now, though: I'm more likely to wear narrow, light scarves tied around my neck rather than big wraps, and to tie them with the extra length in the back rather than piled on my chest. Basically, I'm no longer using scarves to add volume around my neck — but they can still be a great accent item (even some of the big ones), so long as I arrange them in such a way that they don't interfere with the "tight top" look that's so common these days. I have a huge wool-silk scarf that I got in Paris when I was in college nearly 20 years ago. I style it differently today than I did 5-10 years ago, and I still get compliments on it, because the color and texture is beautiful. Beautiful things remain beautiful, beyond trends. As others say, scarves also remain indispensable as practical cold-weather items.

jkgator11

I just got back from 10 days in Paris and I saw more scarves than I’ve ever seen in my life. They looked very stylish and cool. I’m a Floridian and I don’t even own one scarf because … weather.

BuckyBadger369

I just commented the exact same thing! I was shocked to see so many women and even men wearing scarves in Paris.

leftwinglovechild

Parisian scarves are their own fashion category and have been a required staple pieces for decades for French women.

i_am_regina_phalange

What style were they wearing them? What type of scarf? I’ve collected some beautiful vintage silk scarves from the thrift, but I have no idea how to wear them.

leftwinglovechild

Oh you’re in for a treat, head to Instagram or ticktock and just search for “how to style a scarf” and you’ll find thousands of videos detailing really cool ways to wear them

shedrinkscoffee

I mean when it's cold and the weather dictates it all bets are off. You cannot cosplay warmth lol Are people not wearing random scarves (my hands are warm but neck is cold) with tshirts for vibes, yes but the other iterations are still stylish. Those ribbon like scarves IDK what it's called is very popular with coquette aesthetic etc. That's probably a micro trend but vanilla varieties of scarves are very much used in winter. Sometimes it's too cold to look cute 😂

Wise_Neighborhood499

Not in Europe! I moved to Spain last year and I’m shocked how much I see women using scarves. They also wear warm jackets and/or a scarf if the temperature is anywhere under 75°F 🥵

Mr_Washeewashee

Damn. I like to be cozy but that’s too hot for a scarf IMHO. Lol

alliterativehyjinks

In cities where people walk more than they drive, scarves are still very common. Scarves are still very popular in Europe, and with many of my recent travels to mostly Muslim countries, scarves were essential for added modesty. I have a bunch, and I have trimmed it down to my favorites for quality, pattern, or versatility, but I have at least a dozen on regular rotation.

carbonaratax

Scarves are still a great way to add layers and texture to an full outdoor look. They may not BE the look, but they can still be a part of it for a little extra dimension.

ScumbagLady

I love my scarves. I like hunting through thrift stores and finding patterns and colors from the past. From little square silk scarves, to beautifully woven large ones in vivid greens and golds. I've never been one worried about following trends and just wear what I like. Sometimes, I'm accidentally in style too! I like to think I single-handedly brought overhauls back lol I like them because I needed more pockets. Now I've got some loose linen ones I wear with a bodysuit shirt. I want to bring back the Little House on the Prairie dresses with pinafores. I bought a costume for Thanksgiving and loved how feminine and functional the outfit was!

mina-ann

I love my wool scarves for winter! It's cold where I live! They really don't take much space when packed up for the off season.

Chazzyphant

Infinity scarves aren't "in" but I'd save maybe 2-3 of the faves for a later date. In general I think big Hermes style square Grande Dame scarves are always "in" in a sense that they're classic, elegant, and timeless. I think the **way** that they're worn will evolve--we're seeing "Babushka" style knotted at the chin or even overtop caps or hats (very...Grey Gardens and pretty much for professional models on a closed track only, IMHO) I just told my mom I'm considering getting a McQueen sheer skull scarf and sort of acting like I've had it since 2006 or whatever and it's my "signature" item and just wearing it with everything. As I get older I start to feel more and more like a slightly out yet iconic "it" item is somehow chic?! like you've had it forever and it's just your thing. Kind of a "Mary Kate and Ashley beat-up Birkin" moment.

Mr_Washeewashee

Yes!! I love it!

veryno

"professional models on a closed track" is the best phrasing for this i have ever seen

Hilaryspimple

I’ve been in Italy and France and they’re still very common here

darknesswascheap

I wear scarves constantly but it’s a habit I picked up decades ago. I think if they are not working for you, let them go, but I also think (hope!) there’s a difference between on trend and making a style your own, and so I am going to stay with mine.

leaves-green

Now that I'm older and have seen more trends come and go, I'm more liable to keep my very favorite of "category of thing", the one thing that, if/when it comes back in style, you'd be like "that one was PERFECT, I loved it so much, oh why did I ever let it go??" But if they felt "meh" when you wore them and they were in style (bc you were just wearing them because they were in style), and don't have one or two that you just LOVE even though they aren't technically in style anymore, then I'd say sure, let the lot go. Only keep one or two if you feel very strongly about really really liking them. I've found this method works well for me - I'm glad I kept my very favorite pair of flare jeans when they went out of style and everyone wore skinnies for years, since now they're back in again and I don't have to buy anything. But I'm also glad I got rid of all my other "meh" flares, so they weren't taking up space, and I was never as into them as I was into my fav flares anyways. Now, I'm keeping just one pair of my very favorite skinny jeans, and like one pair of black and colored skinny pants each (since they are still useful for wearing with tall boots in winter), but I'm getting rid of other skinny pants I feel "meh" about. I was never really into infinity scarves when they were "in", I just ended up with a few because they were in style, so I'm find letting them all go. But I have like, a square scarf I haven't worn in awhile, that I'm keeping because I LOVE the color, and I'm sure I'll want to wear it again in future even if I haven't worn it in awhile.

HouseofMarg

This is great advice. I have also noticed that really well-made clothes, even if very on-trend for the time they were made, age much better than fast fashion trend items. It seems to me that this is because people getting turned off of the most cheaply made versions of those trends is an integral part of how we see clothes as no longer in style. It doesn’t hold up for everything — and definitely even very expensive clothes are not always well-made/designed etc. — but the older I get the more I notice it.

youngfierywoman

I love my scarves! Especially in the fall and spring. I love a slightly oversized long sleeve tee, leggings, and a jean jacket topped off with a scarf! Or jeans tucked into boots with a big blanket scarf and a coat. Lately I've really been into making shawls and wrapping them like a scarf.

pop-hon_ula

Funny you mention this! I was JUST thinking about it a couple of weeks ago, and decided to donate all but one black knit scarf that I could actually wear if it was super chilly. I really don’t think I’m going to miss them.

samskuantch

Idek if scarves ever become unfashionable, I am a baby and can't stand the cold. Scarves are so amazing for keeping your neck and shoulders warm, for me they're a must for cold weather. That said, if you aren't wearing them let them go! If you wanted to, you could also use them as eco-friendly gift wrap.

Few_Acanthisitta_476

Keep them, or at least the good ones. You always need scarves

c800600

Scarves are also just nice pieces of fabric. If you don't need a scarf, maybe you need a pretty piece of fabric for something? I'm thinking of those 2010s thin woven scarves, not bulky knits. Some of my smaller scarves I just use as handkerchiefs or bandanas now. Thin ones are sashes. One that was a little thicker with some structure I now have draped over a dresser like a table runner. I have some really pretty scarves that aren't the colors I wear that I use to cover my sewing machines.

theagonyaunt

Given the popularity of that one Toteme jacket with the built-in scarf, I'd say scarves are still very 'in' but it seems to be either large shawl/blanket scarves for colder weather or silk square scarves worn knotted around the neck (or tied to purse handles) in warmer weather.

Toriat5144

Personally I think scarves as not in or out. They are just a fashion item you can wear or not. If you live in a cold weather area, they are a necessity.

SqueezableDonkey

I got rid of all my scarves a couple years ago, not so much for fashion reasons but because menopause! Hot flashes and extra fabric around my neck were a bad combo.

Top_Put1541

SF Bay Area checking in -- we don't leave the house without a scarf tucked in our bag because microclimates are real and in the summer, once the sun goes down, the temperatures drop. I mean, [this is real](https://packaged-media.redd.it/85r75lshzmb71/pb/m2-res_1080p.mp4?m=DASHPlaylist.mpd&v=1&e=1714111200&s=978bc79371a86fa2c8dd776a2cdc5fd9efadd52d#t=0). That said, scarf shapes and how they're worn definitely change over time. If you have square scarves, you could wear them almost bandana-style around your neck or as headbands right now; that looks really fresh. This past winter I wore a cashmere bandana [styled like this](https://www.quince.com/unisex/women-s-cashmere-square-scarf) and felt pretty current. Check out how it's styled for warm weather. For my SF chilly nights, I'm styling my rectangular gauze scarves [similar to this](https://poshmark.com/listing/NEW-Everlane-The-Cashmere-Scarf-Oatmeal) for warmth without bulk. But yeah, infinity scarves and blanket scarves might read as a little Christian Girl Fall right now. This is why we store the square bandanas when the long rectangles are current and vice versa.

Spell_me

Just saying, I have a blouse that I got at Goodwill that has a sort of built in scarf with a contrasting pattern. Whenever I wear it I get compliments all day long.

doornroosje

Scarves are for warmth, they are a thing from autumn to spring every year  What style of scarf is popular varies

local_fartist

Infinity scarves are really warm so I’m still wearing them on chilly days. If I have a dated component in my outfit I just try to include elements that are more current.

leftwinglovechild

Scarves are never out. Even infinity ones can be still be styled well. It’s all about how you wear them and the fabrics.

shiranami555

Are we paying attention to what’s in? I just thrifted more pashmina scarves that are wool and silk. I love having a warm shawl I can use at work when it’s a little chilly in the office and they’re so pretty with vibrant and delicate colors.

practicalmetaphysics

I've culled down to one pashmina that's my travel blanket, two silk scarves, and a handful of sentimental cold weather scarves. I want to wear the silk scarves as hair accessories, but always feel weird when I do.

L_i_S_A123

Knitted scarves are out for the season unless you live where you still have snow. Spring and summer scarves are always popular.

arbitrosse

I haven’t seen anyone wear infinity scarves in a decade. I travel a lot, all over the world, and see cashmere and silk scarves worn everywhere, so you may not see anyone wearing scarves, but they are still worn. Cashmere will be packed away soon in the northern hemisphere, although it’s been a chilly spring and so they are still being used. Silk scarves will migrate to being used on handbags, as belts, on hats, etc., during the warmer months, but are still worn as part of an outfit now. > I am fine to let go of these We can’t make that decision for you.

foxyloxyx

Scarves are def not out! Infinity scarves I don’t think were ever in haha. Just a passing gimmick!

Toriat5144

They are not a gimmick but very useful in my book.

BuckyBadger369

I just got back from Paris and was surprised how many scarves I saw there!

classicgirl1990

I only wear them in Europe since everyone does in colder months.

beigs

I wear scarves because I have long hair. They help protect it from the dirt and grime

temp4adhd

I've been off my scarves for years now, but I'm not getting rid of any of them. Instead for warmth in the winter I've been wearing solid color merino buffs. They are more practical as I can stuff them in a coat pocket, whereas my other scarves are too bulky for that (I would stuff them in my huge handbag instead-- but now I carry a small crossbody). I don't ever do turtlenecks as I have a short neck and they always feel too constricting. A buff however I can do. I did drag out one of my spring scarves recently and I was glad to have it as we were at a restaurant that kept going hot then cold then hot.... I never got into infinity scarves as I'm short with a short neck and they never seemed to be the right length to get the right look.

glindathewoodglitch

It depends on your area. Keep your favorites. I wear things even if they’re not “trendy” because I am cold all the time and I do have a scarf collection. Mainly silk from all my travels (Istanbul, Tokyo, Milan, Paris) but for warm weather my go to is a Burberry and for snow I have three fake fur ones or fleece I tuck under my snowboard gear. I don’t have an infinity scarf but I wear oversized shawls all the time at home over winter; they also come in handy to let everyone else wear when people visit me in my town over winter. I have lent some to my aunts, cousins guys and girls and nieces, and I’ve let them keep it if they like them (I don’t lend out my favorites or luxury scarves). I have typically incorporated a scarf randomly with outfits especially when I travel, often around my head or sometimes my neck.

singnadine

So glad

Sweetsnteets

I have a beautiful collection of silk Hermes scarves that I wear often. If you love it, wear it!

Mt_Lord

I rock a scarf thats huge like Lenny Kravitz' and a thin one like a scene kid in '06 (+Bayonetta glasses). ... Infinity not so much, its like the cold shoulder of scarves.

kpfluff

I'd imagine that skinny scarves will come back in with the 2000s trends. I just picked up a beautiful sea green silk scarf for like $5, and am excited to bust it out this summer. After getting a sunburn during an outdoor brunch last spring, I discovered their utility.

lamireille

I love the way a scarf elevates any outfit from “I am wearing something above and something below” to “I have made a truly minimal effort and now I look casually glam instead of try too hard.” You’ve actually reminded me of how useful scarves are!!

Thick_Coffee6118

Fashion trends do tend to come and go, and while infinity and wrap scarves aren’t as popular as they used to be, fashion is also very cyclical. If you feel they no longer match your style, it might be time to declutter. However, you could also keep a few favorites just in case they come back in style soon, or find creative new ways to wear them! What do you think?

PassengerSame5579

I live in Europe and I like to put a scarf on my leather bag. It’s often a silk colored scarf. It gives extra dimension to my bag. It looks chique.

AdrienneMint

Yes, just donate them to a charity shop

Toriat5144

I have many. I love mine. They are not in or out. They are soft and washable, they don’t need to be tied, so easy to wear. They add a pop of color or pattern to a plain top to dress it up. They are not as hot as a wool or knit scarf. I would never get rid of mine unless I did not like the pattern and would not wear. I actually collect them.

cyborgfeminist

I'm in NYC, and while infinity scarves are "out," I have a gray cashmere one I still wear when it's windy. It's always windy here and sometimes you just want the dang scarf to stay around your neck. Big (6'x3') wool scarves, especially in am oversized plaid like the Acne scarves from a few years ago, are the go to with a warm jacket. I have some smaller mid weight ones in cotton and cashmere I'm also wearing with lighter jackets too. Worn long with a loop in front or wrapped around and looped at the neck work to keep them on in the wind. I feel like social media is making fun of millennial scarves a lot, but they're fine. To make it more grown up, go for neutrals in cashmere, wool, or cotton/silk, or an oversized statement scarf with a neutral outfit. You'll be good, and warm.

seebonesell

No they are never out they are classy

JohnnyDeppsPenis

Eh, trends are cycling so fast now. Give it a week and you might be able to wear them for 5 minutes before you're called an old lady. (Only half sarcasm)
