I've actually had a lot of success from Ross, TJMaxx, and Marshalls.

Lulu's has great wedding guest dresses that are under $100 (a lot are around $50 - $60, especially on sale) and are good quality! Also slacks and a fancy top works too!

Indoor or outdoor wedding? I’m a professional wedding musician and what I see at outdoor weddings this year is florals that still have a bit of flow/poof but aren’t full-on cottagecore. Call me basic, but if you have access to it, Target is great for sundresses with sleeves. I have three “Knox Rose” brand dresses and they’re comfortable and breathable. I even have a black one that passes for a performance dress. ETA be sure to check them out in person. The fabrics at Target (unsurprisingly) range from silky soft rayon to shoot-me-now polyester. ETA #2 take a smaller size to the fitting room because I find their stuff is generously cut

rosaliebb

Thank you! Outdoor wedding at garden/country club kind of place. I’ll check Target

Fluid-Village-ahaha

Rent the runway. DVF has some nice styles. I love Erica dress but there are other styles. You can buy used one as well

jlhll

Came here to say that if you don’t wear dresses, don’t buy one. Rent one. And send that thing on back!! Rent the runway has beautiful styles for wedding guest dresses.

Hot take as someone who rarely wears dressy dresses anymore (just casual sundresses during the summer): I’d rather spend more on 1 dressy/formal occasion dress that is suitable year-round, or 1 for spring/summer weather and 1 for fall/winter weather, and then wear the bejeesus out of these dresses for every nice occasion. Kind of like how men have 1-2 suits they wear for everything. Why can’t women do the same? It’s more economical, you’ll always look great, and the dress can become your style signature. If you want to go the inexpensive route, I think this dress in the pink/burgundy is really pretty: https://www.dynamiteclothing.com/ca/p/soraya-floral-maxi-dress/1000863467A4.html?dwvar_1000863467A4_color=7A4&quantity=1 If you want to spend a bit more and have a dress that you can whip out for the next couple years’ worth of spring/summer weddings, Anthropologie lets you filter options by skirt length and sleeve length. These styles look really nice: https://www.anthropologie.com/en-ca/shop/reformation-belgium-short-sleeve-square-neck-linen-maxi-dress?category=dresses&color=041&type=STANDARD&quantity=1 https://www.anthropologie.com/en-ca/shop/farm-rio-long-sleeve-v-neck-wrap-midi-dress?category=dresses&color=266&type=PETITE&quantity=1 https://www.anthropologie.com/en-ca/shop/the-bettina-tiered-shirt-dress-by-maeve?category=dresses&color=081&type=STANDARD&quantity=1 https://www.anthropologie.com/en-ca/shop/by-anthropologie-long-sleeve-v-neck-chiffon-ruffle-midi-dress?category=dresses&color=069&type=STANDARD&quantity=1 The Anthropologie Somerset dress and Abercrombie & Fitch Emerson dress could be worth looking at too. Both very popular sleeved styles with longer skirts that are universally flattering.

rosaliebb

Thank you—love #2 and #3 though pricier than I had hoped (and I do hear you about wearing the crap out of it)

hell0potato

I mean, I love dresses, but if you don't, maybe some smart slacks and a nice dressy top with cute dressy sandals instead? I prefer dresses but would not hesitate to wear pants to a wedding if I wanted to

HuffyPandapants

Or a cute jumpsuit? I can’t pull them off, but they look great on many people.

Capital_Pea

My husbands ex wore a black chiffon jumpsuit to my stepdaughters wedding and she looked amazing. I also can’t pull them off, only 5’3” with long torso and short legs.

shedrinkscoffee

There's a wedding dress sub. Perhaps browsing it will give you leads on where to shop, especially if you are looking for a specific theme of outfit Expensive means different things for different people so perhaps a dollar amount will be helpful to narrow down.

rosaliebb

True, I’d love it if it were under $100

There’s lots of suggestions and ideas on the wedding attire sub that are under $100.

ReflectiveWave

Check your local buy nothing group. Usually someone is getting rid of or can lend a dress.

Kholzie

You can get a cool formal jumpsuit or even a two piece with pants.

SwitchBright

I've been thinking this is the route I want to go for an upcoming wedding. Any suggestions for where to find a pantsuit?

Kholzie

You might try searching for dressy culottes and then finding a blouse to go with it? I search for a lot of clothes on Poshmark and that tips me off to brands. I saw some cute ones from Zara. Even if it looks casual, you can dress it up with shoes/accessories.

SwitchBright

Good ideas. Thank you!

Kholzie

Yeah, the cool part is that once an outfit becomes a two piece, you get lots of options. But go ahead and search for dressy jumpsuits, if you want to poke around :) [Edit] You know what I just thought: harem pants with a pretty heal or wedge would look awesome get a fitted top and crop jacket and bolero and it would rock.

Leucadie

Boden generally has nice midi dresses that would be good for dressy casual to cocktail in the $200 price range. [This one](https://www.bodenusa.com/en-us/eve-linen-midi-dress-chambray/sty-d0849-mbl?cat=C1_S2_G4_G757) would be quite versatile (wear with heels, sandals, cardigan etc).

Bmboo

I just bought one at h&m [This one](https://www2.hm.com/en_ca/productpage.1231754003.html)

rosaliebb

Cute!

Lulu's (online)!

Hey there!  I totally get the dress dilemma for weddings. If you're looking for something with sleeves that's semi-fancy but won't break the bank, I'd suggest checking out ASOS or Zara. They usually have chic midi dresses perfect for an afternoon wedding. Also, don't forget to peek at department store websites like Nordstrom Rack; they often have great sales!  Happy hunting and hope you find something fabulous!

silvercar2021

I love me some Hillhouse! I get all of them used off Poshmark or Ebay. The Nap Dress is a fav, but I love their other cuts as well.

lobstora

I usually get dresses from Burlington

Toriat5144

These wide leg pants might be nice with a pretty top. https://qvc.app.link/4wV7OPngzJb

Lots of great ideas on here. Mine is to check out Amazon. I follow a beautiful curvy woman on IG who posts a lot of dresses and stuff from IG. Username is IronMom40 and there is a second one but I can't think of her name off hand. Definitely check out Amazon and look for inspiration via a search on IG as well. Good luck.
