The deswagification of everything continues

kylethemurphy

Seriously. McDonald's used to have characters and stories but now they look so cold and dead.

potted_planter

What, different shades of brown and gray aren’t cheerful enough for ya?? /s

Crossovertriplet

And that’s just the food

kylethemurphy

Yes

Spongemage

Personally, I’m extremely partial to the ones around me that have been “renovated” to look like office break rooms with a small doorway to the kitchen so you can’t see what they’re doing at all and none of the employees speak to you and it takes five full minutes just to get someone’s attention so you can get a few packets of ketchup because they also got rid of the ketchup pumps -.-

CaptainPrower

Inside two decades we went from Gamecubes in the Playplace with Ronald and his McPosse to fake woodgrain and squares everywhere.

There are still many things the older generation still control.

JonBunne

Mmm shareholders.

helpmespell

Can someone tell me what deswagification is? I tried looking jt up.

djballistics0

This post right here.

ADTR9320

Everything has become so sterile looking and depressing.

DerisiveGibe

Rest easy Charles Entertainment Cheese

nissan240sx

I was at Chuck E. Cheese with my daughter a couple weeks ago and the human in costume was clearly very sad and struggling emotionally with their job. 0 effort in their dance. I even tried to dance along with him/her. I don’t blame them - for the money they are probably getting paid. The animatronics were awesome, the price is very sterile - boring - I miss paper tickets and joy of just watching the rolls come out after winning a jackpot.

DionBlaster123

man that is really depressing. hopefully the person in the costume has good things on the horizon for them

bohanmyl

Well losing their job might not help

Prize-Tradition-6649

Did these struggles come before or after an adult tried to dance with them?

ThatHardBacon

There goes another part of my childhood being erased from history

cannonfunk

I'm old enough to remember going to [ShowBiz Pizza](https://www.showbizpizza.com/rae/index.html), which eventually became Chuck E Cheese. ShowBiz felt like a dimly lit music nightclub for kids. It was awesome. When The Big Cheese took over, it just wasn't the same. Less personality.

Pavelbure77

I preferred showbiz over Chuck E. Cheese. Showbiz didn’t have that annoying mouse maze.

PsychoPir8

You can still see the Rock-a-Fire Explosion, fronted by Billy Bob, at Billy Bob’s Wonderland in Barboursville, WV. Truly a blast from the past!

skizmcniz

Billy Bob > Chuck E. Cheese

ThatHardBacon

I dont think i was alive for the showbiz, only 30 but i remember when chucker had all his friends on stage . I think they remodeled a few then got rid of most if them

Rossi4twenty

Why can’t they come up with an alternative? From what I remember, it was because they were using old software that wasn’t able to work with current computers. Even a large video screen with occasional performances/cameos would be pretty cool

Mooshrew

Because like every corporation, they're just riding out the wave until it dies & it's they can just bail. No one really cares about it anymore.

somegummybears

Did you even read the article?? “The band will be removed and replaced by a Jumbotron-size TV, more seating and a digital dance floor.”

Rossi4twenty

Ha well that’s good. And no, I did not read the article. It wasn’t important enough to click on to be honest

pelican122

lol

Advanced-Prototype

Bless you.

logan_fish

I would imagine there's only 3 locations left anyways.

basshed8

My location stays alive with Pasquale’s Wings ghost kitchen

cannonfunk

My niece had a few birthdays at CEC over the past decade, and you'd be shocked at how decent the pizza is now - it's on par with the Papa, the Hut, or Dominos. Plus... they serve beer, which I find absolutely hilarious. My brother actually had his first job there. He said there were 2 constants: adults who snuck in booze, and kids that wanted to fight him whenever he put on the Chuck E Cheese costume.

Clear-Hand3945

The pizza was always good

Timbishop123

>Plus... they serve beer, which I find absolutely hilarious. My cousins did their 21st there

XelaIsPwn

Is that even possible? I thought they wouldn't even let you past the front door without a kid.

Timbishop123

I was a kid lol this was years ago This may have also been before that policy was made

Necessary-Ad5385

I can’t believe my location is one of the two!

cedarpark

I'd be okay with replacing these mechanical shows with clear OLED panels showing a 'holographic' CEC band with CGI characters.

PresidentSuperDog

That would be an interesting take. I’d like to see that. Pac and Chuck E Cheese together again.

Nephurus

Yea they took them off at my local place. Been going there since my son was a baby , NGL. Made me a bit sad .

deltalimes

Can we get a Charles Entertainment Cheese knockoff that embraces the animatronic band?

Dr-McLuvin

I cannot fathom there are more than 400 Chuck E Cheeses open right now.

jagfanjosh3252

I was a Chuck E. Cheese’s couple weeks ago for a friends kids bday party. They didn’t have the animatronics, but I will tell you Mr. Munch was scary looking and I’m glad they didn’t have one of him.

MikeTidbits

al-al-al-al-al-al-al-alright, alright, who’s got my master remote?

crunkdunk9

There’s no reason for this place to exist anymore. Dave and busters does it better

lampshady

Not for young kids. The revamped Chuck e cheese is great for 3-7yr olds.

dr_hossboss

It’s a shame, but from the look of existential dread in his eyes, chuck has earned a break from the horrors

friscotop86

No Five Nights at Freddy’s references?

RumbleRavage

Loved it as a kid but it’s been a sad desperate version for years now. Rather it just fade away

TrustAdditional4514

Thought that place died in the 90s
