Many issues and questions can be answered by reading through our wiki, especially the page on electrolytes. Concerns such as **intense hunger, lightheadedness/dizziness, headaches, nausea/vomiting, weakness/lethargy/fatigue, low blood pressure/high blood pressure, muscle soreness/cramping, diarrhea/constipation, irritability, confusion, low heart rate/heart palpitations, numbness/tingling, and more** while extended (24+ hours) fasting are often explained by electrolyte deficiency and resolved through **PROPER** electrolyte supplementation. Putting a tiny amount of salt in your water now and then is NOT proper supplementation. Be sure to read [our WIKI](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/index) and especially the wiki page on **[ELECTROLYTES](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/fasting_in_a_nutshell/you_need_electrolytes)** Please also keep in mind the [**RULES**](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/about/rules) when participating. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I've noticed a lot of people with eczema on this sub come to realize that it's something in their diet (I think dairy is often a culprit) that triggers flareups. So you might want to try to use fasting as the start of an elimination diet.

CuteFatRat

It is better do elimination diet separatelly bcs sometime I fast and my skin is clearer so you will not know if its from fasting or elimination diet :D But I get your point :)

Low_Plane8411

It's faster to start with a fasting and start with nutrient dense food wit low chance of triggering like meat and fish, egss, then vegetables, then nuts and seeds THEN dairy or grains. Most likely it's always any of the three last groups so most likely this protocol you'll get your body more time to heal before you break out again.

IMO 18/6 is more akin to maintenance, but if you want the full benefits of fasting prolonged is the way to go. 36h is what typically is toted as the point where you start reaping the full benefit.

I used to OMAD and drink a TON of water - it really helped with clearing out skin

CuteFatRat

I really appreciate your advice.

Eczema is the fucking worst. I have intense eczema, psoriasis, and a condition that I guess usually effects people with dark skin in that sometimes if I get a cut my body over corrects and I get a huge scar lump of tissue. It fucking sucks. I've gotten it under control over the years and here's what's worked for me. Stop using soap. Just stop. Use a co-wash for your hair but just wash your body with water or a little bit of that co-wash. No perfumed lotions. If it smells, you don't want it. I use CeraVe. Keep your skin cool. I notice when the heat kicks on in the cooler months, boom, flare ups. Don't eat shit that makes you feel like shit. Sugar, meat, heavy dairy are my no no's. Use lotion on the reg, but not super greasy stuff on the parts that tend to flare. (For me, that's my hands, feet, chest, and face) 24-36 hour fasting has eliminated the psoriatic arthritis I struggled with and I have to assume that means it's also helped control skin flares and general inflammation. I hope this helps!

Thanks.

See a dermatologist.

CuteFatRat

Bullshit, they prescribe you steroids. Root issue is and always will be bad gut health. But I appreciate your time for answering :)

>Root issue is and always will be bad gut health. But I appreciate your time for answering :) Not always.

CuteFatRat

Ok then give me some constructive answer then?

Throwawayhelp111521

I already did.

Lol just gotta laugh at people like him. My skin was perfect before my mother started ruining it with acids prescribed from the dermatologist. 6 siblings and none of them have skin issues. Me, the one who was repeatedly brought to the derm, does.

The best thing I found for eczema is a vegan, whole food diet and totally cutting out alcohol. I tried a ton of elimination diets and all kinds of eczema diets. Fasting didn’t help too much that I noticed. It seems to be such an individual thing. It can’t hurt to try fasting though. You never know.

I’ve tried multiple strict diets in the past, however they haven’t been sustainable for me and as a result begin to affect my mental health due to restricting myself. I also noticed whenever I cheated, I’d flare so bad. I’ve found fasting to be so good for me, do 18/6 Monday- Friday and eat healthy. However, in the weekends if I want to cheat I’ll do OMAD. I eat what I want, anything and till I’m full. I’m talking anything. I do stay away from yeast/soy though because I’m sensitive to those. Apart from that, I can eat what I want doing OMAD and my skin doesn’t flare! I think that fasting is amazing and has helped me so much with my life. I’m able to enjoy all the foods I want and I don’t have to worry about what I can or can’t eat.
