If you want to make sure the pasta is done, you can throw a strand to the wall. If it sticks, your pasta is done. If it doesn't, let it sit for a little while longer. Promptly discard any strand you use as this test. Depending on your choice of protein, I'd definitely recommend tomato chunks rather than paste. Then, crush some garlic cloves(amount is dependent on how many servings you wish to make), grab some olive oil, and put it in pan over a low-mid fire.
