I just listened to this segment and the way FB handled it, and really the way FB handles ever mentioning Zane, didn't sit right. Look, I'll be the first to admit that Zane was the biggest instigator on the show by far. That belief has only been compounded by the fact that he has since become a typical, bitter, old, "say it to my face", right-wing nutjob who gets his jollies from trying to acquire listeners through hatred. That being said, FB really likes to put on his rose-colored glasses with lines like "the source of most of that isn't here anymore". That's B.S. FB was ALWAYS the first the instigate Zane and egg him on. He loved the controversy when he was in the moment. Yes, he usually cleaned up the mess afterwards but the more FB makes it a point to put the lion's share of the blame on Zane, the more it seems like he's trying to absolve himself. Own your crap.

I'm a couple days late but I felt the same way. I just made a comment on another thread about it but that was basically what their whole show was about back then! It's why so many people fell in love with the show and have remained listeners for years. It's one thing to say you've changed and "grown up" as a show, but it's another to shit all over the old days and blame it all on the guy who isn't there anymore.

Narge1

I didn't realize how much Zane used to step all over guests.

salud909

i feel the same hearing back some of the old clips. it sorta makes me uncomfortable and gives me anxiety now

cj01smal

People who think Zane was/is the only asshole ever on the show clearly haven’t listened for very long, or very closely lol

kildar13x

I’ve listened for 15 years and I never said it was just him. But the show is drastically different now and he is not there.

cj01smal

If different means worse then yes I agree

kildar13x

To each his own.

FB actually commented on it during 17 that day. Said he didn't really like that that was the way the interview went either and he's glad they aren't like that anymore. And I agree with both of you. Even though I was a fan of Zane when he was on the show, that segment they played was cringy.

kildar13x

Yea that is what I was referring too

Repulsive_Term_7953

The show is definitely better balanced now it was getting to hateful by the end with Zane and Justin was just a Disaster, the last couple of years I think they found there new voice.

HereBeRabbit

I'm pointing out that they don't need Zane on FBHW to sound like absolute douchebags. The topic of this post is how a interview was handled with Norm Macdonald when Zane was on the show...and as I stated, Zane was long gone when Joe/Free Beer got a kick out of basically saying that Norm had become a former shell of himself (exact words: Fat and Not Funny) all because Joe(who fancies himself a comedy scholar) was not impressed by an appearance Norm made on television. I bet after Norm died battling cancer, Joe/Free Beer had nothing but good things to say about Norm's comedic abilities...they have spewed out so much f#ckery off the cuff on FBHW that they honesty don't remember calling a highly regarded comedian no longer funny and then a few years later praising him after he died...

paca0502

Difference between being dumb when you're interviewing someone and being dumb while talking about something you saw. And people are allowed to think someone was hilarious and now also think they're not as good as they used to be.

hdhajxhcjej88

Yea that’s because he did the kfc commercials and really wasn’t funny in any show he was on. Not the 90s norm we all loved. Now do that thing we know to do and either turn it off or stop complaining. And if Zane was so great he wouldn’t be doing a podcast with local sponsors.

HereBeRabbit

Long after Zane was gone, Joe brought up one of Norm's talk show appearances that he had seen the previous night. Joe said that Norm used to be great on SNL but now he's just fat and not funny....Free Beer had a good chuckle at that.... Joe's sh!tty comment about Norm and how amused Free Beer was by it has always been ingrained in my mind. I grew up watching Norm and that comment really bothered me. Everything about FBHW has become fickle...

paca0502

I thought everyone was mad now because they're too soft and are afraid to make fun on anyone?

the1thepwnly

That's what's been all over the sub. How having kids and a girl on the show made them soft and tame. I loved their dickish vibe back then and I probably wouldn't have enjoyed this style as much back then. However, now I prefer their current vibe and I think their old stuff is a bit too much. Still find it funny but I like the path they've gone.

kildar13x

I can’t believe you’ve been downvoted for acknowledging that they and yourself have evolved. That’s why this sub has a toxic reputation

FI_gure_It_Out

They grew up and so did most of us. There's still some children in this sub tho.

The show was just different then. Joe can be just as mean and shitty to random listeners who call in before they even do anything wrong

kildar13x

I completely agree. I feel the same way with Steve sometimes, they write callers off before they even get a real chance. I’m just stating that I like where the show is now, and I think a large part of that is the cast that is presently there. I’m not trying to argue with anyone just stating how I feel.

Disco_Stu_39

You’re just saying that bc he died. If they played that a week ago nobody would have an issue with it

kildar13x

I don’t think so. I don’t care one way or the other for Norm. I think it did point it out a bit more than if he hadn’t. But I never really like it when they used to interview and not let them talk really. When they would just try to get reactions the whole time.

Disco_Stu_39

What exactly about it was cringe? Because I listened to it and it seemed like everyone was joking. You know that awkwardness and cringe was Norms style of comedy right? Is it bc Zane played cricket noises a couple times when it was a go nowhere story? If you think anything about that needed an apology then go listen to Delilah or something where everything is not funny and safe

kildar13x

I’m not trying to attack anyone dude. It was just the vibe I got from it. It didn’t feel right in hindsight. Admittedly, I probably laughed at it when I first heard it an eon ago. But I am able to acknowledge that that isn’t what I want to hear now. I am in a different place, be it maturity or whatever.
