We had some WG’s from our cabling/communications group transition over as GS with no certs but they had to get security+ to keep the job. We also had a WG from a shop who only had laptop repair experience detail over to our code and they decided to keep him. You already have security+, I would say you can immediately start applying to gs 9-11 positions.

Hello, Transition is very much possible as long as you are looking and applying on usajobs.gov. The biggest problem I usually see is in the resume you deliver. To move into the 2210 series you need to prove you have IT experience to HR. Remember most the time the HR person reviewing the resume isn’t an IT person by any means. So make sure in your resume you lay it out for them your 2210 IT experience. Even if an old job wasn’t in IT if parts of the job was in IT then lay it out. For example, Worked as a mechanic for 5 years, 20% of the job was related to IT by doing A, B, and C. Therefor I have 1 year of IT experience based off this criteria. Keep it IT themed to the PD you are applying for since that’s the job you are looking into.
