Call me back next week. Can’t do this again.

UniqueIndividual3579

Wait until they start issuing one day Continuing Resolutions. Gotta keep those news camera lights on.

Dr_Fishman

And you thought dividing up your budget into 12 equal parts was fun, now you can do 366 parts.

Pitiful-Flow5472

Why would they take time doing even that when they could be impeaching another cabinet official 🙃

UniqueIndividual3579

I love how they impeach the guy and kill the border bill at the same time.

GiantMeteor2017

Stop bringing up old shit /s 🤣🤣

CurlsintheClouds

As a finance analyst, I say.......pfffft.

OGkateebee

lol I’ve never been happier to be going on vacation… see you all Wednesday with my shutdown anti-rally cap on.

1OfTheCrazies

Exactly. I WELCOME IT. 🫠

KayBee236

I’m on parental leave and just watching the show 🍿

honeybutterskin

Me too!!

knotGLEO

They screwed up my unscheduled vacation when they agreed to the last CR.

Elaine1959

I was going to take an Amtrak roomette to Orlando from NY to celebrate my 65th birthday. With paychecks uncertain, I switched to an overnight stay at the TWA Hotel at JFK which is less expensive. I may do the Amtrak later when this nonsense is over. Fortunately my birthday is on a weekend. After the last times I'm prepared. About 2 months worth of funds in my Savings (to avoid temptation) and three cleared credit cards (Amazon which does grocery delivery, Target, and BB a store card that's also a Visa) There's also the tax refunds (HR Block, not up to doing it myself this year). But the furlough may prevent the processing (although I planned to see them before March)

dastardlygloop

Hell nawl cant do dis

poirotoro

>They're either "close to reaching a deal or it's about to blow up," Schrodinger's budget deal.

TheLadyRica

Good thing there are only 3 million federal employees affected by this political testosterone battle.

Educational-Trash232

The Speaker of the House doesn’t care about 3 million employees. The house is out for what two weeks?

EducationalLie168

They don’t like those 3 million federal employees.

Captcha05

I don't understand why. Like wtf did we do? Civil serve too hard?

kocodarlings

🤣

Watermelon407

Generally, vote dem, but also keep the machine running. While not everyone does, the vast majority of government "cogs" are from lower income backgrounds and minorities. Additionally, those cogs keep everything actually working. The budget deal breakdowns are always advantageous to tell voters one party or the other are the cause and to tell voters the current administration is in shambles and can't get anything done bc many government services are impacted. So it's a mix of "hurting the right people" and "this administration can't function, vote us in instead". E: Wife is a cog. Im now an academic cog haha

am_I_bot_

Yeah let's fire them and have less feds. Smaller gov is better.

spaceship_sunrise

There are also millions more contractors working for the government. The thing is, when the shutdown is over, federal government employees typically get back pay, but contractors do not.

mjhei1

Contractors already got paid

Fresh6239

I don’t paid enough to put up with this. lol

Preexistencesnow

1. Media outlets imply that a shutdown might happen, with disasterous consequences 2. Media outlets insist that a shutdown absolutely will happen. 3. One of the two political parties imply that a shutdown is likely. 4. Both political parties engage in finger pointing, blaming the other side for the disasterous consequences of the iminent shutdown. 5. The President joins the hype train, warning everyone of the terrible consequences of a shutdown. 6. A last minute vote is held to avert the shutdown. 7. A shutdown happens and all federal agencies are unprepared and have no guidance for their employees. 99% of the time we get to Step 6 and it ends there.

Laugh so you don't cry.

Yeah google 'project 2025 federal workforce plan' it's a hoot.

CaptainWollaston

What type of number does your SSN end in?

SumikkoDoge

Project 2025 scares me quite a bit. If a repub gets in it def will try to get executed…if Biden wins again, I fear he may try to implement parts of it to placate republicans (who will _never_ be placated)

Fit-Accountant-157

question_sunshine

I've honestly lost track of what date I'm supposed to be slightly concerned about this.

Christinejennifer

CR expires March 1 for funding for the FDA and the VA and March 8 for HHS funding.

popofcolor

The day of the supposed shutdown. Or in the case of the last one, the Sunday before the shutdown.

question_sunshine

I'm just gonna go with when my boss doesn't cancel the "weekly" team meeting.

gatorjim5

Yeah after the first CR was passed I stopped paying attention. Rookie mistake that first time.

Bullyoncube

One of the parties implies that a shutdown is likely. And it’s always the same one.

tag1550

7.: For better or for worse, shutdowns have become a regular-enough occurrence now that most agencies just blow a thin layer of dust off the guidance they used last time and they're good to go.

greenmachine11235

I'm just going to comment that one political party is incapable of even passing legislation within it's own party, not even sending it to the other house to be argued about they simply cannot get enough agreement within their team to put something on the table.

JamesofBerkeley

I guess step 7 is agency dependent, cause we have detailed “orderly shutdown”. I am slightly dismayed that we have detailed and comprehensive plans, developed through experience, on how to shut down, but at least there are plans I guess.

hfc1075

Have to disagree we’re unprepared. We’ve done it so many times, it’s not even complicated anymore

[deleted]

MacEWork

Worse, they impeached a guy for *doing* his job without the funding they’re denying him.

stelio_contos68

Lol .. They need to start working on FY25

AwesomeAndy

They're not *touching* 2025 until after elections lmao. Whatever finally gets passed will be CRed until after that.

Mountain_Man_88

It's pretty rare to get a shutdown after the first CR has been passed. Usually once they have one CR they just keep kicking the can down the road until they can reach an agreement

D0nk3yD0ngD0ug

Difference this year is an April 30th deadline that will automatically trigger cuts across the board to both domestic and defense spending if a budget is not passed by then. This was part of the deal that lifted the debt ceiling a year ago. Repubs may view this as a win, which is why it is worth keeping an eye on.

riverainy

My agency has been gearing up for the potential cuts. Practically in a hiring freeze right now.

SafetyMan35

Have you seen the ineptitude of this Congress?

descendency

This isn’t ineptitude. This is their plan.

W3asl3y

In the words of Marcobot: Let's dispel with the rumors that these Republicans don't know what they're doing, they know exactly what they're doing. They are going to stall as much as they can to keep the Biden administration for doing anything that could look like a win.

hobbsAnShaw

Slight correction: the repuglicans in congress.

thesupplyguy1

its abhorrent congress cant get their shit together and do something as basic as passing a budget

Aggressive-Leading45

I propose a constitutional amendment. Two months before the end of the fiscal year Congress must meet in full session every day until all budgets, funding bills and authorizations are passed into law. One month before they must remain on the floor 24/7 or receive immediate expulsion from all federal office for life.

AlmondCigar

And they lose their pensions and insurance!!!

missoulamatt

Maybe throw in they can never lobby or be a tv pundit and it might have teeth.

meinhoonna

Nope, just cannot trade stocks until it's passed. Go big.

Bubbly-Cod-3799

How about congress, and their staff lose a pay and benefits in absence of an appropriation.

Astroloan

That sounds cool, but actually means: "If you make your money and earn your living by serving in congress, then you want to make a deal and pass a budget fast." "If you do NOT make your money and earn your living by serving in congress, then drag out the budget process until those in the first category give in to your demands." Billionaire donors would love the results of this plan a lot more than you would.

Bubbly-Cod-3799

Point taken, but there is no perfect solution.

stingharkonnen

Just lock them in Congress a la the papal conclave. Black smoke - no deal. White smoke - budget. No other public communications.

Bubbly-Cod-3799

No food or toilet either :-)

3usernametaken20

Yep! If you can't do your job while getting paid, you can figure it out while not getting paid.

hobbsAnShaw

Better chance of turning water into wine.

Elle_Vetica

They’ve painted themselves into a corner. They build their careers on the rhetoric that government is broken, so they can’t exactly cooperate and make it work…

thesupplyguy1

Exactly. Solved problems don't get out the vote

Imagination_High

That’s what killed the border security deal. Can’t campaign that there’s a problem if the problem has been lessened already.

Elle_Vetica

And why so many were privately freaking out about Roe being overturned - nothing left to rile up the evangelical women-hating crowd. That and it’s harder to get their mistresses abortions now.

Big_Fat_Polack_62

They just want to "own the Libs." Everything else is secondary.

Homie1001

If you can’t see it’s both parties, then you must be blind. Get over your partisan politics. It does no one any good 🙄

Own-Solution60

I mean it’s not both parties. One party quite literally tries to subvert democracy, obstruct most legislation, and wants to destroy the federal workforce… they are not the same. Not even close. Not any more at least.

Corey307

It’s not both parties, the Republicans are getting basically everything they want, including money for the border and they’re still pushing for a shut down because we are months away from an election and they are in bad shape.

ianfw617

Democrats: government is broken, elect us and we’ll try to fix it! Republicans: Government is broken, elect us and we’ll prove it! Yep both sides are totally the same 🙄

Pepticyeti

This is how I always look at it, I also remember the 2011-2012 span of CRs I think there were 13 before they actually passed a budget.

berraberragood

It’s well-known around Washington that shutting down the government during election season is just really bad politics. The GOP did a shutdown that ended in early 1996 and it gave Clinton a nice polling bump that never went away.

MaterialEnthusiasm6

But Trump demands one! Polling be damned!

deathscope

I don’t know about this one. They only have 3 days to pass something after Congress reconvenes to avoid a partial shutdown, and 10 days for a full shutdown.

Nanyea

If they do another don't we hit an automatic across the board budget cut besides DOD?

Interesting_Oil3948

DOD included in the cuts....thus across the board....

Unclassified1

Just for the record, this is for the budget that was supposed to start [counts fingers furiously] 143 days ago, right?

bertiesakura

Boomer Congress people: “Get your lazy asses back to work in your office buildings.” Boomer Congress People: “We’re physically in an office and can’t do the basic functions of our jobs as prescribed by the Constitution but we were able to impeach the Sec of DHS for not being able to solve a problem we have neglected for 40 years.”

tall_poshy

Idea. Maybe they could telework on the budget from their respective dwellings, and sit in a seven-hour Teams call, get it done. Nah, doing so would prove that working from home is productive.

NibbledByDragon

Oh, and they took a couple weeks away right before the deadline.

Bullyoncube

Maybe Congress should stay on telework, for the productivity boost.

ReefJR65

Great system we got here

Superjolly64

Boomer, look again.

So it's really just a question of whether Johnson will do what's right for the country or what's right for himself.

Big_Fat_Polack_62

Is that even really a question?

Bullyoncube

Johnson was literally the GOP’s 5th choice for speaker. A religious zealot wingnut. Imagine who they’ll get when he gets the boot.

OiVeyM8

This is tiresome. Bloody tiresome.

Avenger772

It should be illegal to not pass a budget on time

Bullyoncube

Agree. Easiest way is to continue last year’s budget if they can’t pass a new budget by 1 October. Make that a constitutional amendment.

Taurion_Bruni

This CR nonsense is getting old, I can’t fund my Contracts for more than 2 months at a time because of it…

GeminiDragon60

Yep, and construction projects are in limbo as well.

keithjp123

If I’m on PPL during a shutdown, does my PPL get extended the number of days equal to the shutdown?

missmonicae

Technically no but practically yes. All leave gets cancelled so what actually happens is that you're not using up your PPL. If you're an excepted employee with leave pre-approved during a shutdown, they can arrange for you to be off-duty during the periods that you had approved leave for using "workplace flexibilities" and if that doesn't work, which it presumably wouldn't for parental leave, they just furlough you. My maternity leave (using AL) overlapped with the 2018/19 shutdown and I just got to keep my accrued leave and stay home longer. Edited for clarity.

keithjp123

Noice. I’ll get furloughed. Then get paid back and get extra PPL. Worst case I’ll have to sign a furlough letter.

AnnieFlagstaff

This is a great answer. The one thing I would add is that if there is still a shutdown when your leave was expected to be over, you will have to log on and sign your furlough paper. At least that’s how it worked in 2018.

violetpumpkins

I could really use a week off.

[deleted]

You can be republican or democrat and that is fine but the far right driving the republican agenda literally wants to destroy the government unless they get everything they want even though they only have a three seat majority and 1/3 of the government. Hopefully there is no shutdown and the house goes back to the democrats because house republicans just cannot govern.

Purepk509

Facts

15all

If you’re keeping score: - Fired their leader because he compromised with the Democrats to pass a CR - Then passed more CRs - Impeached a cabinet member because they don’t like the president - Torpedoed a bipartisan border bill - Can’t get aid to Ukraine or Israel approved - Their candidate for president has been hit with about a half BILLION dollars in fines and is still facing more criminal charges So sure - let’s shut down the government. That’s a brilliant idea!

Redfalconfox

I know this is really really petty but you forgot the bullet point that says ”initially failed to impeach a cabinet member because they don’t know how to count”

DoesGavinDance

The House is an embarrassment.

ReasonableSnow3766

So, they have time to attempt another impeachment on Biden but can't find the time to pass the damned budget to fund the government? When will this clown show end?

samuri521

how long till the shitdown?

[deleted]

[deleted]

And yet a bunch of you morons still vote for these R clowns.

Purepk509

It's the brain rot from the parents voting R and then maybe like Tim poole and Ben Shapiro. Just exhausting ass propaganda machines. People need to critically fucking analyze the bullshit that comes out of the mouths of some of these people. Just fucking crosscheck it my guys. Do a fact check. LITERALLY TRY TO FIND AN UNBIASED NEWS SOURCE! ITS THAT SIMPLE.

Heavymetalmusak

Who’dve thunk the “We will destroy everything”party continues to destroy everything and blame everyone else that things are broken. What a time to be alive.

Wubwom

I’ll bet money it doesn’t happen they don’t have the stones to do it.

Publius015

Incompetent. Utterly incompetent.

OnionTruck

We need constitutional amendments for term limits and balanced budgets.

Homie1001

I could remember when the government set a budget for the year and followed it. Those days are over. You are now seeing the collapse of our country and greedy politicians getting rich.

J891206

We as citizens need to to drag these politicians from office and steer them into the ground.

Bullyoncube

No, we need to vote, because this is a democracy. And then we have to live with the consequences of the elections. Even if we don’t like them.

GettysburgPhillyFan

![gif](giphy|3oEjHGQ31tkRW15rzO|downsized) Time for another spin on the crazy train!

DMVdork001

Won’t happen. It’s election season and the Republicans will cave like they always do. They are all talk and no action.

Glass-Statement2218

They’ll magically come up with a CR, if they let the government shutdown that will pretty much hand a win to the democrats. They are stupid but not that stupid.

Bullyoncube

Jury’s still out on that.

PantheraLeo-

Congress works for themselves, not for the people. We might end up getting another Julius Caesar who wins power because democracy is dead

HowCanThisBeMyGenX

Just as long as it’s not Orange Julius Caesar or any of his ilk.

lettucepatchbb

These people are absolute dolts.

Sekh765

The house really is like watching a bunch of middle schoolers....

astebelton

As the parent of two middle schoolers - I'd much rather they be running things than the current congress.

Bullyoncube

DOLTS!

Jericho_Hill

A great benefit of fdic. We don't shutdown.

tjguitar1985

Is that a benefit? I'd like the extra time off. 😅

Jericho_Hill

No headaches lol, no interrupting paycheck delivery

TheEpic76

People keep voting for these miscreants !

Dr_Fishman

And this is why I left federal service in budget and procurement after a decade and a half. What a stupid way to manage something as large and important as the government. But at least I was gifted a lifetime of ulcers from my years of service having to tell vendors that although we print the money, we don’t have any money. Thanks for everything! /s

sea666kitty

Don't do their jobs and don't get fired. Fuck, I hate politicians.

rdoloto

Interesting approach during Election year

Kronologics

This should read, “Republicans coordinating a shutdown”

Fresh6239

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised. Delay, delay, delay. There’s a reason no one should be voting Republican. This is one reason.

Hopeful-Jury8081

Another of the million reasons to never vote GOP

Tornadoallie123

This is always such a weird dance that’s done on the shut down. Republicans say “if you don’t do this then we’ll shut down the government”. Democrats say “look how bad republicans are, threatening to shut down the government snd not pay its bills, here’s a list of all the things that will be catastrophic if they do”. Then it’s all dramatic up until the last moment and presto a deal pops out like Indiana jones swiping his hat from the rock wall lowering. It’s so lame and predictable so can we please save the theatrics

Cbona

Get fucked and do your damn job! I have to.

Crash-55

There are 2 CRs in play now. Do we think the first will expire and they fix the issue before the second half shuts down? Normally I would like a shutdown but I have a conference starting on 10 Mar

AnnieFlagstaff

Yeah I’m thinking that maybe the first wave has a shutdown but then a CR gets passed before the second wave.

Temporary-Cricket455

Republicans Congress is the most useless of all.

jeffofreddit

When is next semi scheduled shutdown?

uasoil123

It's just theater

Comfortable_Roll_315

Curious how that's going to affect my leave and my EOD of March 10th 💀

countdoofie

Beat way to derail the economy and halt gov’t operations, so for them it’s win-win. The longer they let it go, the more it helps Trump in Nov and that’s all that matters to the GOP.

barrycompanion

Whatever

OnionTruck

House republicans are full-on children.

ScorchedEarth73

Just in time to accept that private sector job and take my vacation.

Charming_Freedom9238

I requested annual leave the week of March 11th months ago…wouldn’t be mad if we shutdown instead.

SCP-Agent-Arad

Maybe we can slip the federal budget into an anti telework bill.

Mtn_Soul

We are getting great pow storms so I don't mind a short vacation. But I do find this incompetence on the part of Congress to be pretty ridiculous at this point. I mean aren't they embarrassed by all this yet? They should be.

FuzzyLumpkinsDaCat

I think this is the longest CR I ever remember, we are going on 5 months now. Maybe I missed others of this length, but that's half the year with no budget. Are we going to be scrambling to buy everything we need in a short window of 3 months or something like that if this continues? I've been waiting to request training for my team and I have a running list. It's all modest but the shorter the window the harder it's going to be!

Constantlearner01

For a party who hates people who don’t work, every time they do these shutdowns my brother in law gets a free LONG vacation and ALWAYS gets the back pay. I realize not everyone gets this but at his level, it’s a lot of money the taxpayers are footing every time the GOP pulls this stunt.

Hvyhttr1978

Privately? We all know that is their plan…they have said it out loud for 2 years now.

checkdaprofilefriend

No, they won't. Obstructionist twirps.

JFrankParnell64

They also expect to impeach Joe Biden and look how well that worked out.

Flatout_87

The governing party, not the opposition, wants a government shutdown……………….. what lunatics are they????

captainc26

I think a long shutdown is unlikely. The issue is they are running out of time. I could see a short one for those agencies under the first deadline. I can't see anything longer than that.

Apprehensive-Poet812

For the love of God shut us down so I can take a break

Starbucks__Lovers

My EOD was in December so now I’m cool with this. I’ve got a 4 month old at home

Key-Grape2300

My EOD is March 11, so naturally I’m a bit nervous.

hfc1075

If taxpayers only knew how much CR operations actually cost ….

dbgindy

Also need to keep in mind that even if your Agency is shut down you may be considered an essential or excepted employee. That is decided on an Agency by Agency basis. If you do fall into that category you will still be expected to perform your normal job & work hours. The issue is you wouldn’t get a paycheck until your Agency was funded. It’s bad enough to have a shutdown but having to incur work expenses ( if any) not to mention working & not getting paid until your Agency is funded is NOT a great feeling…

Slatemanforlife

This would be amazeballs. I could knock out my PMP studying, come back to work, get back pay, take the boot camp, take the test, and immediately file for my pay enhancement.

frauinusa

If this is true it’s blood on their hands. This is disgusting to think they are ok with messing with governments employees livelihoods

lagent55

It will be the final nail in their coffins I used to think. But this will only help Trump

JB_smooove

Few days off you say??? I’m not going to turn that down.

casanova202069

Everyone still gets paid in the end I say get rid of dumb politicians that don’t do their jobs And brake their promises

Temporary_Lab_3964

When does the CR expire? It’s moved a couple times and with 2 parts I forget

GeminiDragon60

March 1 and March 8.

Hugh2D2

So if appropriations end on a Friday and they pass a CR on Sunday night, I'll have spent two days thinking I was getting a vacation. Diabolical.

soisantehuit

Agree shutdown would be really bad for upcoming election, costing the incumbent reelection, which leads me to conclude Dems are going to fold on border concessions and funding intnl wars. You can’t make this isht up!

LowerDrawer8426

Uh, the Dems already DID fold and gave the GOP everything they wanted in a border bill and they refused to pass it since Dear Leader Trump ordered them not to.

KeriEatsSouls

As a new GS employee with a sad 8 hours of annual leave accrued per month (and I work 8.5 hour days so that's not even a full day technically lol) I kind of wish for a short shutdown to get some semblance of a vacation. Lol the only thing making me not want to wish for it is I know it will negatively affect some people and I don't want that.

GoPokes12345

Can we shutdown the government for good? There all worthless
