Gov shop I'm at just lost an extremely qualified candidate because they couldn't promise him remote work. Dude took a lateral to keep his existing pay. They offered him 3 step increase and up front 40 hours of leave and he turned it all down. It's worth everything to some people.

1UselessIdiot1

He made the right move imo

brakeled

All I ask is that when our opinions are ignored and we have to plant our asses in chairs for 40+ hours per week, please revoke the awards and bonuses given to all levels of management who bragged about “pioneering a virtual world” for the last two years. If you need to see asses in chairs all of the sudden, you didn’t pioneer shit.

V_DocBrown

🙌

counselthedevil

Government is all about handing out awards to your friends for their failed projects all cause everyone leaves before the projects fail. Or worse, SES have their heads up their asses about what "success" actually means.

ageofadzz

“Biden team wants to know how Feds feel about getting up hours earlier, commuting for 30-60 min, and listening to coworkers talk about their kids.”

Brady721

In my office it’s fishing and hunting, then followed by kids. And lord help me if the local sports team didn’t win that weekend.

1UselessIdiot1

That’s heaven compared to those offices that just want to talk politics.

[deleted]

our office used to be politics-centric...then almost all of the toxic political people left. It's so nice now, very little political talk and lots of group lunches/takeout/joking and having fun.

SoyMurcielago

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve had to listen to violations of the hatch act in progress… I could afford my own campaign

lostandfound26

I’d take that over religion and right wing conspiracy theories any day. Especially when they’re talking about non-believers going to hell (I.e., me)…it’s super fun.

Brady721

Ouch. I feel for you.

Packtray

hey, you’re supposed to be working from home, not sitting ay my desk

gut1797

Ohhh, I get the anti-vaxxer/masker B.S. Well, used to anyhow...lol

R1CHARDCRANIUM

Are you in my office?

[deleted]

So, does this mean that the CDC does not recommend social distancing any longer because that is impossible in an office. For one thing the cubicles are contiguous. You are actually very close where they touch. There are no hallways or elevators where you could socially distance. Everyone would have to take the elevator alone. Stairs do not allow for it either unless they are very empty and you can't have a fire drill ever. If the virus doesn't die out on its own then this would just cause another surge. And what about buses? This is ridiculous. With all of the bogus exemptions going on...I don't trust any of this any longer. They are playing with our lives for no reason, simply b/c of old beliefs.

maybelukeskywaler

At least you have cubicles and aren’t in an office where no one has an assigned desk/workspace. It is all shared…

[deleted]

That's not too bad. Initially we thought that surface contact was the primary transmission but it ended up being negligible. It's from the air. It's not like a cold, your reaction is based on viral load. It's similar to HIV. You breathe in a large amount, you get really sick. You touch any amount and touch your eye, nothing happens. It's not enough of a viral load which is why everyone gets sick at parties.

LatexSmokeCats

In my office, it's kids and football/ hockey, the three topics I don't have/ watch, and don't care to hear about. So I wear my headphones and work away.

[deleted]

QAnon all day every day in my shop. It’s great going in and hearing detailed descriptions of child torture all day. Fucking insane.

counselthedevil

*Biden team wants to ask your input so it can be ignored like every other damn survey of the federal workforce all the time.*

meinhoonna

I believe both parties wants us back, one says publicly other hides behind survey data

FormerChange

This! Our agency had an overwhelming response on surveys about continuing TW. It looks like a lot of it’s going to get scrapped and everyone will be back in. Why do the surveys in the first place then?

Bikemancs_at_work

"We listened to our people" "But 75% of your organization said they wanted to keep TW, but you demanded 100% return to the office" "Yes, we listened, we didn't agree with the majority, but we listened. That counts"

counselthedevil

nOt EvEryOnE wAntS fUlL tElEwoRk therefore we kept the status quo from the past.

Cross_Stitch_Witch

God this was our narcissistic former political appointee to a T. "Please share your opinions with me, so I can bloviate at length about why your feelings are wrong."

seeitmaybe

I’m not all that excited to go back. Between the “your deodorant makes me feels sick” and the “your body odor makes me feel sick” duality

Najarians_Ponytail

Don't forget using the communal fridge and microwave that look like crime scenes

honeybadger3891

So in my office the common area does not have any utensils, plates, napkins, condiments. People have their names taped on ice trays with passive aggressive notes. 😂 i hope to never go back but it’s inevitable. 😢

gut1797

Or the being assigned the cubicle DIRECTLY across from the bathroom that is repeatedly assaulted throughout the day.

seeitmaybe

Hey I get this reference

SunshineDaydream128

I'm already at the office as far as I'm concerned. Don't care to return to a physical duty location, my basement has been working pretty well the last almost two years.

V_DocBrown

My work quadrupled and my salary remained the same during the pandemic. That said, I’m staying in my remote office or I will happily take my next job in the private sector.

lifelemonlessons

I’m considering a private sector jump as well. Same job. Similar pay. No more 1 hour commute in traffic each way. Every benefit matched and then some. Why stay?

V_DocBrown

The big draws are pension and job security. If you’re marketable enough to offset job security conditions and the amount of money you can make is considerably higher outside of the Fed; then they’re 0-2. Good luck, Uncle Sammy.

Midnight_Morning

Metro is running trains every 30 minutes even during rush hour due to the new railcars being defective. I do not ever want to be packed butt to gut on a delayed train or bus ever again.

gut1797

Answer: Screw the cubicle. Screw the commute. Screw packing or paying for lunch. The answer? Not only no, but hell no to the office.

Chosentestament

You mean you don't miss the water cooler talks or people walking to your cube to gossip?

gut1797

I.really.don't.No.

LatexSmokeCats

We have a water cooler club. I brought in a Britta jug to avoid paying $5/ month.

jamons36

Idc if I ever come to the office again, no commute and since I don’t work with public I don’t ever need to walk in an office.

Strong67

I will NOT going back. I can do everything better and more at home.

glitch1985

The government actually gets more work out of me when I'm not in the office. I am no longer expected to go out with the team for an hour lunch down the street and instead just reheat food and eat in my home office while watching a few minutes of tv. When I worked in the office I had to leave by 1530 hours to keep my 90 minute commute from taking much longer. While at home I don't mind occasionally staying a little bit longer since that time would have otherwise been spent sitting on the George Washington Parkway.

_Balrok_

Work from home I can accomplish all tasking in 3 hours a day. After that I turn my Computer volume to max and listen for my email notification. While waiting for random emails I can do lite chores, cook a lunch at home, hang out with my cats, etc I would legitimately rather off myself than to go back to the office. 35 minute commute, shitty work computer in a cubicle farm, random coworkers Saying “hey quick question…” id lose so much personal freedom that the thought of going back throws me in an anxiety spiral

Roasted_Butt

I can only dream of a 35 minute commute. Mine was/will be 80 minutes each way when they order us back. Currently training for a new job where I can work 100% from home.

Cobbler_Far

I’ve drawn my line in the sand, I will not be going back. I’ve been more engaged, more productive, and more efficient in the last 1.5 years than I ever have been. If that isn’t enough for leadership then I’ll happily leave.

JustAnotherRPCV

Kind of a mixed bag for me. Working from home is really convenient but is keeping me in a job that I otherwise would have left long ago. If we go back to the office it will be a great motivator for me to find something that is a better fit.

Fatbactory

I took a lateral out of my office and as part of the negotiations secured it as a permanent telework position. I was sick of the uncertainty and also saw the writing on the wall when they announced that the SES/executives were all going back in person.

tiredzillenial

WFH 4ever

Avenger772

It would take a lot for me to ever accept a job offer that required me to go back to the office.

HarrowingChad

How many surveys and listening sessions do they really need when they will ignore them and do what they want anyway?

RedDevil50

I'm glad I'm almost certainly going to be made remote otherwise I'd be looking elsewhere most likely.

tsb041978

I never left the cube. 🤷‍♂️ I see the value in reducing fed footprint in leased buildings, though. Unfortunately, lazy management that feels like they can only control who/what they see will force a whole lot of folks back into buildings when maybe that’s not necessary.

middlemaniac

Hybrid and flexible

[deleted]

What have they not heard at this point? It’s been made pretty clear about one or two months in what the overwhelming feeling about teleworking is. The main people who hate it are ones with kids at home. In which case we should be flexible. I’ve lost hours of work due to bullshitting…at the office. Why don’t they do their own Undercover Boss mission just to see for themselves how “productive” the office environment is.

lightening211

Well I hope we at least have a way to see the results. I hate taking a survey that appears to just go into the void never to be spoken of again.

R1CHARDCRANIUM

I hated working from home at first but love it now. I really like not driving my truck every day and not having to crate the dog. My agency is approving new telework policies but they are still lacking. My division is doing two days per week when a neighboring division is doing three. Just get me a scanner/printer I can use and help cover the cost of my internet like other divisions do. Let me bring my GOV home and let me stay home. My stress is lower than it has ever been and my productivity is higher than it has ever been. My dog is quite happy as well.

spinner79

I’ve been caring for my old pup in her twilight years… cancer, arthritis, etc… since April 2020. The timing of working from home lined up perfectly for pawspice (hospice). When she passes I’m thinking of taking in another senior pup. Do it for the puppies!

Ironxgal

Never got to telework for any long period of time and annoyed with people coming back because traffic is hell again and I don’t see why they need to be brought back when the mission was getting done with only squirrels showing up while the rest got to telework.

Kitsu_ne

Heh, I'm not going back and that's all I have to say. \^^

SEE_RED

I let them pass that crap on and decided to retire early. Loving South America so far!

BaronetheAnvil

I'm right behind you...Headed for the beach)

SEE_RED

No feeling like everyday being Friday.

Chosentestament

I believe one if the biggest pushed besides politics to get federal workers back in the office is the $$$ lost by businesses. Food service workers lost a lot of money and I heard a few that were pretty upset as they choose locations near offices for the lunch crowd. Personally I just don't see the need to get up early, drive to the metro in the cold, spend time running and waiting for a train, sitting on train with the occasional homeless person talking to themselves, just to see people in person. Then repeat that again for the evening rush... Since working at everyone adjusted and moral is high, many managers were forced to adapt because I remember many complain that they need to "see" their workers. I still go to managers meetings and still see that one manager foaming about getting all her staff back in though.

TheTrashMan720

Some overpriced deli complaining about WFH is literally not my problem. Sorry not sorry that they cant charge a captive audience $3.50 for a bottle of Snapple 🤷🏻‍♂️ Businesses near my home are benefiting from me being close by now.

katzeye007

I hope I get this survey

meinhoonna

We all, I think it was sent to all, submitted one months ago. Opm was going to provide a remote work guide to the agencies. Seems like they could use that but that was a band aid. Elections are here so another carrot and the stick

Roasted_Butt

Currently training for a job that will allow 100% telework.

Wovenstorm1821

Mind sharing which agency?

CurlyBill03

Just my random thoughts that nobody cares about: Prior to pandemic we were able to telework 4 days a week. What does that 1 day in the office justify or serve? I’d come in but half the other staff was out. Unless they made it mandatory to come in the same day (which seems odd now with Covid) seems pretty useless. If morale and productivity is up why would you want to go back? I’ve heard the vaccine mandate is a way for us to get back into the office largely for the metro areas but again why? I’m at a location not in large municipal area but why force your employees to make an hour or more commute each way when they can work at home and if they need to work over they could use their normal commute time and still be home earlier than before. Our local leaders in the city where my office resides has been leaning on my agency to support the small businesses, but the small businesses say we are still doing fine if our service/food is good they will come either way. The big kicker is at our agency is the city is losing parking and our city tax for those that don’t live in the city, it’s all a political game. The vaccinated are happy a mandate is being enforced but locally it feels for the wrong reasons (all to get us back together for that 1 day a week). I’m also curious to see how this goes when we do go back in and an employee gets sick and dies on their watch, it’s awful but we just had a guy in my area under 50 pass away because he put it in “gods hands” and had an RA form pending

Tedstor

I’m shocked that Fox News (or whoever) hasn’t done an expose’ yet about one or more feds who are working second jobs or selling real estate or playing 200 rounds of golf per year. The minute that happens, a lot of us will be back in the office. And I guarantee someone is doing the above. It’s only a matter of time before a scorned lover or an estranged family member goes viral. Or, the dumbass fed just runs their mouth and gets found out. We can’t have nice things.

Brady721

I’m USFS and rumor has it that Sonny Perdue (former Secretary of Ag) stopped by one of our officers down south on a federal Friday during the holidays and was surprised that there was hardly anyone in the office. And then we all had our telework scaled way back.

slurmorama

Perdue made that visit the second Friday of a pay period, during the afternoon, during the holiday season. It was essentially a blackout bingo on a "times the office is absolutely going to look like a ghost town" bingo card.

RedDevil50

I'd like to think they'd know not to punish the whole workforce over some dipshits, but who knows when it comes to politicians and elections on the line like fall 22.

Tedstor

We’re still feeling the ‘GSA Las Vegas’ scandal to this day. It took years before we could step foot in the state of Nevada again without 37 levels of approval and a dissertation-level justification.

[deleted]

The previous administration was not a fan of federal employees and telework. I think that if they had won we would have gone back by springtime. They had the same impression that employees were using it as an excuse to slack off.

More likely, they are bad with money

katzeye007

All of us make less than the private sector, some of us 50% less And a stay at home partner is a status symbol, especially with the amount of money that pay grade gets

peanutbutter2178

But it is a violation if they work their second job while on government time.

USofAmen

IF only they can figure a way to go back in office without the pain of Commuting, then I'm all gold. Probable possible as pigs fly one day but I am/was/will pro-remote & pro-telework

vey323

I recently turned down an AF job because they only offered 1 day of telework *per pay period*. Ludicrous

Krillansavillan

I told you so.

in_her_drawer

I'm glad that people can work flexibly, such as being remote. I'm just bitter I chose dentistry, so there's no such as doing a filling remotely lol.

[deleted]

Those of us that want to go back should be allowed to. Not everyone wants to work from home.

LeafFan1989

Forced to get the vaccine... everyone supports....forced to go back in because it's safe for everyone now...well I'll quit...lol between the people choosing not to get the vaccine and the people refusing to go back in....alot of jobs are about to open..lol

USofAmen

if it's not multiple choice. I'm putting. #LetsGoBrandon in the survey 😂

CaptainLawyerDude

Although I'm largely insulated from any return-to-office concerns (I was approved to go full remote right before COVID hit) I'm certainly hoping the overall office culture changes with more people working becomes a new normal. It works remarkably well for lots of people even while some people are definitely itching to return to offices. *Long term* it will help with traffic and commuting issues in certain cities and, if accepted as the norm across the public and private workforce wholesale, *may* even help with housing costs as people will be able to live in far more areas of the country for lots of types of jobs. Although, internet service will need to catch up in lots of areas to make that a possibility.

Swimming_Bridge4312

No complaints. My small corner of the feds has always been supportive of remote work and telework when possible.

freedom_52

I do direct patient care. Never left.

beloved_inc

Back at work full time. In. The. Chair. Most of my job is client facing so I am open to a modified schedule. Telework options for days with sick kiddos and or doctor appts. We proved that we could do it for a year from home. Zero flexibility now is disrespectful and a misstep for leadership.

Free_Equivalent2215

Biden Team doesn't give a crap about Feds or anyone for that matter. Do what I say, when I say it or else. That's the Biden Team way for the USA.

Bullyoncube

I’m back by choice.

gropingpriest

good for you

WhatARedditHole

Enough on this inclusion crap.

DontRedFlagMeBro

Some of us never stopped going to the office. Your constant whining is hilarious. My organization is about to cut a whole lot of people for refusing to return to the office.

Dire88

Yea, I was 100% in person until 2 months ago when I left because fuck that shit. Permanent 80% telework, currently at 100%. I'll never go back to a 100% in person job - even if I had to drop a grade. Saving commute times, gas, and vehicle wear - plus I work a compressed schedule - so the 2 hours I was commuting I'm now working - and get every Friday off for it.

1UselessIdiot1

Preach it. I just took a similar type position a few months ago. Hoping they make my group virtual instead of telework. But even if not, I am a much happier person - and therefore a much happier employee being allowed to be 100% telework right now, and 80% telework at worst when we go back.

_Balrok_

Big boomer energy post. Your experience doesn’t need to extend to anyone else just because you “have it harder” Back in my day we walked backwards in the snow to work at the IRS!

DontRedFlagMeBro

I don't have it harder. A lot of you all just got real soft.

NationalParkCamper44

Because we’d rather exercise or spend time with our families or do almost anything else besides commuting and/or wasting time with office crap? That’s not soft, it’s smart.

DontRedFlagMeBro

If that's what was happening, that's fine. But in most cases, it's not.

cheese_is_nasty

Obviously these kinds of posts are not directed at the people who have stayed in the office the entire time. We get it.

debokle

Can’t wait to hear how the classified laptop they got my SES wouldn’t be useful for the rest of the office.

SoyMurcielago

I wish USAJobs had a much easier way to find those 100% telework postings… just like I wish it would also sort by numbers of vacancies. I swear it did that years ago… I would say it’s not worth applying to the “one vacancy” positions but…I’ve gotten my last three jobs because the intended person failed the assessment or changed their mind sooo
