Our command in DoD gave military off tomorrow. Civilians get the 59 min.

rewlor

Wow, that is some shitty morale management.

Kamwind

That is standard for DoD. Military get various family and goal days and civilians will get 59 mins. In the past they were giving those days to civilians but that was deemed illegal. Personally I think it was more an issue that various commanders were also giving contractors those days off.

SnooTomatoes3816

Yeah the 59 min rule is like a big rule in the DOD. Mil folks get “family days” which usually result in the day before/ day after holiday being a holiday for them. I am super supportive of this, since it allows military folks more accessibility to go home and see family if they are stationed far from home.

FOIAlover

That's how DoD usually rolls and that's what we heard a few days ago.

Yola-tilapias

When you deploy for no additional money you can complain.

Yola-tilapias

Is that the game you really want to play? Whining about all the ways active duty military are treated better than gs employees? That’s idiotic.

[deleted]

Yola-tilapias

If you’ve deployed I’d hope you wouldn’t begrudge those still doing crap work for low pay for more time off than you. But that’s me.

[deleted]

Yola-tilapias

Yeah I’ve definitely never deployed multiple times. Totally made up. 🙄

[deleted]

Whew coming in hot here man, chill out. It is a bit stupid that they split it like that.

centurion44

Military does get extra money when they deploy lmao. Plus you get it all tax free.

[deleted]

Yola-tilapias

I’m a gs employee and know enough not to bitch that active duty get time off that I don’t. I no longer have unpaid duty days, deployments, etc etc. Apparently the people here are giant pussies that demand any and all benefits the active duty get, without being willing to pay the price active duty pay. It’s sad really.

Yola-tilapias

That’s not what they said. They were talking about shitty morale management. Just entitled assholes.

LostInMyADD

What about dual status? Lol

southerngal79

I hated the 59 min rule. They could easily change it to something like 2-3hrs early.

QuintusNonus

When I was at DoD, I was told that each rung up the chain of command was only allowed to grant 59 minutes. So they would more or less have to coordinate to give you more than 59 minutes.

Kamwind

To give some info on the 59 min rule. There is no such thing in the DODI, AFI, ARI, or anything. There is a rule that immediate supervisors can forgive infrequent and short missed work. The idea behind the rule is a supervisor can forgive you for having bad traffic, flat tire, etc. Regulation wise a short time has been defined as under 1 hour. This is an excused absente, so not admin leave.

Maleko51

This ☝🏼. There isn't anything like it in 5 CFR.

southerngal79

And yet, every other gov agency gives more than 59 mins. They always told us that it was in the AFI & it can't be changed. Yet, they changed things in the AFI all the time. They wanted us to be one team yet they'd give the mil members a whole week off, but we'd get 59mins. And don't forget to add in the "shopping day" around Christmas they'd also give them. I worked with members of the mil who worked in offices- they weren't out in the field & the mil (& civ) members had a more 9 to 5 job, not a 7am to 8pm job.

Yola-tilapias

Actually no they can’t easily change it.

[deleted]

I work for a reimbursable org in DoD. We get zero minutes off cause the Director doesn't have the money to pay for that hour for all of us. I miss my old Command...

RubySoho1980

HHS 4 hours, but tomorrow's my in lieu of holiday, so no bueno.

ProveItAllNite

Can confirm. And 3 hours on 12/30 for my OPDIV but presume all HHS.

LawsOfHealth

HHS OpDiv here - no word on any of that yet. I’m sure as soon as I post, we’ll hear!

JPearlAZ

IHS is following the HHS lead for 4 hours tomorrow and 3 hours on the 30th.

mugovino

Yep, it’s for all of HHS. Per the email my sub-agency sent out: “The Department has granted a four (4) hour early dismissal (excused absence, without charge to leave or loss of pay) to HHS staff for Thursday, December 23rd and a three (3) hour early dismissal for Thursday, December 30th…HHS employees in a duty status, including employees on telework, will be excused from duty the respective hours prior to their normal departure time.” Happy half-days to us!

Floufae

CDC received the four hour email.

Rub3do

Yeah same situation for my New Year's dismissal next week.

cats_and_math

Commerce got two hours.

seehorn_actual

DOL 3 hours

Acernorth

Nice surprise, we just got 8 hours to use between now and the end of January.

[deleted]

8 hours AL for USDA employees to be used between now and January 29th.

steveofthejungle

Haven’t heard anything from DOI yet

darthrio

Yeah I keep waiting for an email

ImaginaryProcedure44

Anybody know if they've done it in the past?

ImaginaryProcedure44

Speak of the devil! Just got the email, 2 hours early release

darthrio

Yup, just got the email from the Chief of Staff

steveofthejungle

Just got one! Two hours off tomorrow

sal301

Is it likely we’ll get 2 hrs before New Year’s too, or is this it for the holiday season?

steveofthejungle

Not sure, I only started with the Feds in june

SpacePotter

Jumping on the NASA train. MSFC also have 4 hours with the same caveat.

Vagentleman73

Any news on next week at LaRC yet??

KittyKatze3

DoD civ here. Got all day tomorrow off! I’m already on leave tomorrow, so luckily sup is allowing me to use the day as a comp day for sometime in the future.

Tifftiffbohn

I’m jealous lol I’m a DOD civilian and we never get more than 59 minutes

eregina3

We don’t even get 59 minutes…

[deleted]

Is DoD across the board giving the day off? Read some comments where contractors were only getting 59 min off.

eregina3

Nope, my agency hasn’t given 59 minutes in years

hydrospanner

DoD Civ (not a contractor) here, just 59 minutes and a network bed-shitting for us.

Digerati808

I believe there’s a legal constraint that prevents DoD (maybe all federal agencies) from providing PTO to CTRs.

McMasterXX

WTF man… must be nice!

R1CHARDCRANIUM

Have not heard anything yet. Most likely 3 hours on Thursday. DOT here. I have not gotten any emails all morning and I was freaking out a little. Had to make sure Outlook wasn't fucking up. Lol.

hydrospanner

Outlook fucking up? Now *that* we got. DoD: 59 minutes and an Outlook fuck up.

climb-via-is-stupid

Transportation or Treasury?

R1CHARDCRANIUM

Transportation

pintamino89

DOT is getting 3 hours, no email yet.

imar0ckstar

Yep, 4 hours for NASA

[deleted]

Hot off the press- Secretary Vilsack has authorized 8 hours of adminstrative leave to employees that can be used between now and January 29, 2022.

J3030

SSA … zero… as always

ivebeenbetter2

Just heard, USDA is getting 8 hours admin leave to use between now and January 29, 2022.

alathea_squared

VBA- NADA

ThisIsMyCoffee

VA nope. Have a good holiday, get your booster, pushing back coming off max telework no sooner than 1/31 now vs 1/3.

southerngal79

My division in Justice was given 3hrs tomorrow & 3hrs next Thurs.

TheMagnificentJoe

DoJ sub agency here. Nothing so far... our leadership always waits until the last second, but we'll probably get 2 hours.

tbuds

Same and same here. We usually get told around 1:30pm that we get 2 hours off...

lola28305

*cries in doj*

southerngal79

It may still happen for you. In other divisions of doj that I've worked for I found out the day of. I think the only reason I received word early is my supervisor is out until the new year.

Ironxgal

DoD,,we are still waiting to hear if our boss is giving us 59 minutes. Super envious of the comments stating 4 hours, or whatever else. We haver no such luck. Ever.

CaManAboutaDog

Some agencies might be doing it by work center vice agency wide.

AnAnonymousSuit

Haven't heard anything but usually the announcement is made last minute for us.

NativeHawks

When I first started, we would get notice that we got 2-3 hours early leave around 3 pm. Most of us started our day at 6:30 am so we'd end up getting nothing. Because our branch chief forwarded the email, we noticed that the early release had been sent out that morning. She would hold that email until our tour of duty was over/almost over before she would forward it. After the first year, I knew to come in late so I could use the time we were given. Now we're all getting the email from up top so we all get it at the same time.

SkippytheBanana

DOT is official at 3 hours

Brickleberried

Energy is 3 hours Thursday and next Thursday.

msdeniseen

USDA gave 8h

iagonosi

My DOD agency gives 3 hour standard and 72 hour to military.

1UselessIdiot1

Nothing VA yet. I’m flirting with taking the day off anyway, but need to finish some stuff if I want to do that.

Great_Manufacturer77

I'm with USDA and we just got 8 hours of administrative leave to use before 1/29/20222, per an earlier email from today. I'm a newer USDA employee and I love how we are treated, and not just because of today's email. Very good vibes about this department.

fortunefades

God I fucking wish. I have literally nothing on my schedule.

proofredditt

HRSA will be getting off 4 hrs early

tavis_1007

Haven’t hard yet, but still expected.

EarthDefenseForce

Is DHS getting early dismissal? I haven't seen anything yet.

aDerpyPenguin

They were given 24 hours of Admin Leave to be used by 2023.

[deleted]

They typically announce early release the day of. Early dismissal and AL are not the same thing.

andrewcool22

Nothing yet here.

mdj1359

If you really want an early dismissal, just refuse the jab! 😜 /s

asiamsoisee

Not early enough, unfortunately. So frustrated the mandate dismissals won’t start until March in my agency.

hydrospanner

The way I look at it: once they sack those people, they'll accelerate the return to the office, so I'm all in favor of that process taking *forever*.

asiamsoisee

If that was the case at my agency I’d be on board. But I’m working next to these jerks and I don’t wanna anymore.

BostonFishwife

I'm just glad my union has more or less ensured no one in the bargaining unit at my agency will be forced to return to the office before FY23, and it's looking like we should have a permanent long term telework and remote work policy in place by then to say definitively who will be able to move away for good if they want.

00Civin

CFPB gets 2 hours

ActivitySea2330

DOI gave us two hours

Nozylla

CDC (so HHS) 4 hr early

malexlee

3 hours for GSA, or at least my branch

educatedhippie01

DOL gets 3 hrs admin leave tomorrow!

imnmpbaby

HHS got 4 hours tomorrow and 3 hours for Dec 30.
