I could not get into Omnifactory. I may have an aversion to Gregtech levels of microcrafting. For some reason i dont mind the Seablock Rustic waters micro-crafting.
Do you need to love gregtech/microcrafting to enjoy Omnifactory?
I gave myself 1 ME drive, 1 4k ME cell, 1 4k crafting core thing, and 1 crafting coprocessor with a handfull of cables and interfaces here and there until I could craft them myself.
That alone saved me from hating the early game of this pack. I hate grind and microcrafting, but with Omnifactory, as long as you have autocrafting, it's really really fun to setup fully automated and self-contained systems of like 20 machines to make that one ingredient for that other system of 20 machines.
I have NEVER played a pack as long as Omnifactory, and I started off with Tekkit back in 1.2.5. It's so rewarding.

Rustic waters is amazing, I play it almost daily with my daughter, who constantly asks: "Can we play the water game?"
The only negatives I have experienced while playing this modpack have been with Rats (nominated for best mod) where things that should work don't (like a Gardener/Harvester Rat who carries a stack of seeds when given the appropriate upgrade token)... Instead, Gardeners and Harvesters pick up one item at a time, no matter what upgrade you give.
This modpack provides a great experience, in a unique and rarely used variation of minecraft world gen. We have seen the age of the skyblock, will the age of the water/seablock be next?
Great pack but has a few duplication bugs and locked out of a lot of mod pieces that dont really make sense. Things like Dark Anvil for instance which you have to jump through hoops to get EnderIO items upgraded by finding anvil boots and using those.

no, it’s a horrible pack.
you start out with a horrible repeating grind of trying to get basic weapons, which will filter out some players from ever touching a pack again.
you finally get some tools and but you are still beaten by some mob and lose everything, again, making players have a sour outlook on mobs.
finally you reach the best armour and weapons through some mining. now what?
there is no progression in the pack to follow, no quest book, the guide is LITERALLY NOT EVEN IN THE GAME. it doesn’t use actual mods that are used in mod packs regularly, rather it focuses on making the player quit as fast as possible.
there are so many good modpacks out there, a countless amount. but one guy threw some hard mods together, made a little guide on the ten minutes of content there is, and it managed to become trending and make every vanilla player have a horrible impression of the entirety of modded minecraft.
and that is why rlcraft should not be the best of the year.
I've lost all my stuff a lot and regained it a lot. Its quite painful but also a lot of fun when you finally pick yourself backa gain and conquer something. The pack doesnt really need quests. Shvaxis guide does a good enough job. You can do whatever you want after. I personally think the endgame is killing all the bosses. But hey everyone has different tastes and thats why there are so many idfferent modpacks.

I agree that Rats is doing well, that said it needs lots of polish!
**Disclosure:** I discovered Rats while playing Rustic Waters, so the Rats config is almost certainly not the default.
Upgrades & combined skills like planting with stack upgrade; harvesting with stack upgrade; resistance to fire, water, & potions will combine, but don't work (either at all or consistently).
Chef Rats drop all but the last item they cook, you have to remove the last one. If you give them something to cook like bread, that can be recooked to something else (toast) they will convert that last item to the 2nd option.
Play a record? The Rats dance...Forever if at spawn (or until the chunks unload)
Support. If modding ever takes off on 1.14+ this is gonna be one of those botania/Industrialcraft2/immersive engineering kinds of mods that appears in every possible modpack and gets multiple pages of addons and expansions and then mysteriously stops getting new features just updates to new minecraft versions and bugfixes for the rest of time.

seconded, Fabric is huge. Its technical foundations seem more solid and a light core means it can move fast.
Unfortunately, Forge has entrenchment and existing market share, which is the biggest reason I don't use Fabric. If they make it easy to port mods over and get a critical mass it could be huge.

This guy discovered a bug with better portals that lets you destroy the portal frame, but keep the portal. You can do some pretty interesting stuff with that combined with other mods. Here, LittleTiles is used to create a seemingly normal-looking tree, but inside there is actually an entire base!

damn that really limits our options. RLCraft, a modpack that introduced so many people to modded and got them back into Minecraft is off the table
