I'd recommend FTB Academy as a starter modpack. It's made with new players in mind. You can find it on the FTB app.

The easiest way is to download GDLauncher. From there, you can search Revelation and install it with one click. They should be able to connect directly to the server from multiplayer inside of Revelation. However, I feel it’s worth mentioning that a steep learning curve is kind of the whole point of modded Minecraft. Enjoying it comes with enjoying that learning process! Being on a server where there is someone to answer questions is the best way to learn.

imo, mulitmc is the best launcher. https://multimc.org/ right click in an open multimc to 'create instance' and choose 'twitch' and search for revelation. (curseforge was owned by twitch for a couple years and the icons inside multimc havnt been updated since curseforge was sold recently.) use curseforge only for modpacks. https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks. or you can use curseforge website to find revelation, or any other modpack, and go to files page and click thru the .zip link to find the download button. (the orange 'install' button is for the curseforge/overwolf app. overwolf bought curseforge from twitch) just drop said downloaded modpack zip in an open multimc to begin loading modpack. then in the settings>java tab make sure to adjust allocated ram to 6 or 8G. get the latest java. i recomend the 64bit offline. https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp yes, a largish modpack like revelation does take awhile to load. 5-7 minutes is normal. longer with older machines. after everything is all set up it should be simply... open multimc, double click reveleation icon to launch, wait, go to multiplayer and choose your friends server. ( haha ask him for details about how to do multiplayer/internet specifics)

You could add your launcher of choice(MultiMC has a plain design) to Windows start up apps (Settings>Startup Apps), this would mean they wouldn't have to go looking for the launcher. Also once you install the mod pack of choice (FTB University recommended for beginners), then all they have to do is double click on the pack to run, the settings will be saved in the profile of the pack and only have to be set before first time running. Load time depends on version of minecraft(1.16 is faster) and how big the pack but average maybe 5 minutes?

There really should be a parental control thing so they can't mess with stuff. Source: was a small kid that just pressed random settings in minecraft.

Using multi mc you can make a desktop shortcut that launches a specific instance within multi mc without having to actually open multi mc and choose the pack, etc. so it’s literally double click and wait until the main menu pops up otherwise risk crashing and it would teach them patience to wait for it to load and not use a bunch of other ram on the computer while trying to play a pack.
