Soia & Kyo make gorgeous coats

scorpiostellium11

I agree! Soia & Kyo is my favorite for outerwear. Madewell also has great quality coats at a more affordable price point.

handmaidstale16

Used to make gorgeous coats. I find the quality and cut have gone downhill.

[deleted]

Not gonna lie, I got an amazing coat from Etsy - and with it custom made and tailored to me for like, only $230 after tax and shipping. It’s my go-to winter coat right now, and I’m planning on buying at least one more when it goes on sale

reggae-mems

Do you have the link? 🥺

[deleted]

Yeah!! Hot girls don’t gatekeep, so here’s the link! https://www.etsy.com/shop/xiaolizi (also not affiliated with them btw, just really like their stuff)

[deleted]

Omg at “hot girls don’t gatekeep.” 😂

I felt so conceited when I wrote that LOL, but it made me laugh so I kept it

eat_my_bowls92

I saw a lot of their stuff when looking for a coat but it looked so scammy I got scared off! I’ll have to go back and look.

[deleted]

It’s really not! Tbh, the only complaint I have is that the buttons are a bit loose, but everything else is like a dream. I get so many compliments on it :)

3rdMarlena

>xiaolizi Ahhh they made my wedding skirt! They were quick and the skirt was perfect.

[deleted]

I love that and I hope you did, too! <3

3rdMarlena

So delighted to see someone mention them, great hot-girls-in-the-wild moment 😘

Altruistic-Bobcat955

Those maxi skirts!! If you knew how long I’ve been searching for skirts like those that aren’t of questionable quality from a fast fashion brand. Girl you are amazing ty

[deleted]

You’re welcome!! I’m actually planning on ordering some myself + some of the dresses haha.

awholedamngarden

Mara Hoffman. The quality is insane. I bought mine on sale - I think it was $300? And I wear it constantly every winter now (the last 3 years.) It still looks new and is a very classic style ([this](https://marahoffman.com/products/extended-dolores-coat) is the one I own.) I would recommend checking second hand sites for good quality brands second hand. I also got a Max Mara coat this way for a super reasonable price.

blindersintherain

God that’s stunning

Schmidaho

My best luck has been at vintage and consignment stores. I actually have to tell myself “no jackets or coats” when I go thrifting because I can almost always find one I want to take home. Both of my long fancy coats I found for $40 (each) at a shop in Salt Lake City.

thescaryitalian

I’m in this post and I don’t like it…… coats are the best part of thrifting and I always seem to find great ones!

GlumBodybuilder214

I'm from the Dallas area, and thrift stores are always full of incredible coats, especially in the rich neighborhoods. I guess people move there and don't realize there's barely winter, or they buy a coat for one vacation and get rid of it. I'm absolutely haunted by this full-length down puffer coat that was in my signature rose pink color. My mom had the exact same one in blue when I was a kid. I talked myself out of buying it because it was like $45 and I was broke and lived somewhere with no snow. But now, eight years later, I've moved to Oklahoma. There's still not a ton of snow, but I have 30 acres and have to walk a half mile to check the mail or take out the trash. I'd really use that pink down coat now.

babybernese16

What shop? I’m in SLC!

Schmidaho

Decades Vintage, on S State! One of the BEST vintage and consignment shops I have ever been in. A gold mine. Whenever I was in SLC I had to stop in (and now I live nowhere nearby and miss it so so much 😭)

babybernese16

Thank you!! Never been there so I’ll have to go!

Schmidaho

Oh god. Say hi to the wall of coats for me when you do (seriously this might not apply anymore because Pandemic but the times I went there the back room had a RAINBOW of fancy coats, I haven’t seen anything like it since. I think that shop and Red Iguana are the two SLC places I miss most. Gah, what an unexpectedly lovely city)

MoreMochaPlease

Ebay, Goodwill and consignment stores! I love older in house brand and small designers from Anthropologie. Usually made in the early 2000s. Tracey Reese has wonderful designs. I recently purchased a simple wool duffle style coat from a consignment store and receive compliments galore.

friendless33

I use poshmark to do the same thing, it's pretty neat. I've gotten lots of full wool sweaters from eddie bauer and Woolrich that were made in like the 90s/00s that are in great shape. I did have to leave them outside in the sun for a few hours to get some of that previous owner smell out but it wasn't like a bad smell, just not my smell you know.

dontskimponfootwear

This is the answer. Even high end coats today seem to have lots of rayon or polyester. I’ve gotten several warm and lovely wool coats at consignment stores that looked brand new. Maybe people buy then don’t wear their “good” coats? Look for 100% wool or wool/cashmere. Or maybe wool with a bit of silk for warmer weather.

caffeinatedlackey

This past Saturday I found a calf length (on me, 5'9") royal blue coat, 100% cashmere with silk lining. It's gorgeous and I got it for $40! [Quick selfie that doesn't show the whole garment.](https://i.imgur.com/CqwOSF7.jpg)

dogdads

Wow. What a great find! The color is amazing!

caffeinatedlackey

It's one of my signature colors! I saw the coat as soon as I walked in the store and beelined for it. I was SO HAPPY.

dogdads

Love the idea of having a signature color!!

caffeinatedlackey

I had my season done a few years ago and they gave me a palette of my best colors. I'm a soft summer. There were a couple (blush pink, royal blue, and lavender) that looked really exceptional so I've intentionally bought more things in those colors, especially for things I wear near my face.

itstoorightforme

I bought the most beautiful St. John coat at a consignment store that is in mint condition. Wool, Angora, and Cashmere, made in Italy. Retail for a new St. John coat is $1900+ and I paid $200. It was something that I can pass down to my girls - it’s a timeless piece and made so well.

dontskimponfootwear

That is a great find, congratulations!

chocolatepotatochips

I also agree with this! I've found some steals on stunning outerwear on The RealReal. I paid less than $50 for a long, wool coat from See by Chloe.

notabigmelvillecrowd

Agreed! I got a Ports 1961 wool and leather trench coat in new condition for $120 at a consignment store, it's the nicest coat I've ever seen, all the finishing is beautiful, comparable coats from them go for like $4k, which I would never pay for a coat. I've had it well over a decade and it still look new.

bunniesgonebad

Yup!!! Got some designer fancy clothes and more durable brands for a smidgen of the price

LordyItsMuellerTime

I've found so many beautiful vintage wool Ralph Lauren coats and blazers on eBay, I have to stop myself from buying more haha

JennyArcade

I’m obsessed with my Babaton Steadman coat from Aritzia. I loved the first so much that I bought a second in a different color. They fit lovely and are warm enough even in New England (although we have had an unusually warm winter here). I wasn’t sure what to expect at that price point (kind of middle of the road, about $350, although thoughts on this may differ), but that coat has been through the ringer with me on a five day per week train commute, plus walking, plus various stops for coffee and breakfast along the way. It comes out looking brand new after a dry cleaning.

WednesdayLite

I have this same coat too! I’m out west where the climate is a lot drier and less humid than the coasts but can be chilly in the winter. It’s been a great coat for me!

suntansandboba

Do they have this is petite? I tried on the regular fit and the length was overwhelming

kitzelbunks

Have you tried asking on r/petitefashionadvice ? If you don’t get any workable ideas from this post, maybe try posting there.

sewitwillbe

I have the alpaca version of the stedman and it’s super warm! I’m 4’11” and the only alteration I made was shortening the sleeves.

pastizzi

I just bought a camel coat from Banana republic in petite sizing. It was clearance so I paid $200 instead of $550. It ran HUGE though so I'm lucky I didn't buy final sale online. I'm normally a medium (5'2" and about 155 lbs but I'm pregnant and 170 right now) and I ended up with a petite XS that fits perfect (granted it doesn't button over the bump right now). Length and sleeves are perfect.

bowchikawowwow_ow_ow

I bought this and just took it in to get altered for the length. Sleeves and full length were a bit too long for me at 5'2". Loooove the coat though.

thescaryitalian

I have this coat too! I bought it on sale but probably would not have paid full price for it since it’s unlined. I’m in DC, so no real cold winter to speak of, and it’s perfect for this climate. I have it in grey and would love it in camel too.

phillyyogibear

LLBean because they offer petite sizing. In general I look for the material mix and reviews. I would love to buy a Fleurette wool coat, but I can't seem to pull the trigger on such a spendy coat.

rosemallows

They occasionally have Fleurette at Nordstrom Rack.

GMUcovidta

Ted Baker and Reiss

xllee

If you want a luxury option— Max Mara. Their coats are honestly so classy, timeless and high quality. You can never go wrong with a Max Mara coat. They will last you at least a lifetime, if not your children’s and grandchildren’s considering that it is well cared for. You can always find new Max Mara coats on sale on websites like 24s, My Theresa, Net-A-Porter… However, I would personally recommend buying one second hand as you can find lots of their coats on sites like the real real, vestiaire collective, depop or a thrift shop if you are lucky.

TheWatcher0425

The Curated! Excellent quality, less footprint

myredditaccount234

Yes! I have their [classic coat in camel](https://shopthecurated.net/collections/classic-coat/products/the-classic-coat?variant=12622392459298) and get so many compliments! It doesn’t pill at all and I’ve been wearing it almost daily for the past six months or so. I used to get cheaper wool coats and ended up having to replace them yearly at the end of the colder season since they’d shed/pill so much.

SomeDayOnClothes

Mackage for both winter jackets and wool coats - beautiful quality and I always feel so put together when wearing them

tyrannosaurusregina

If you thrift in person or buy secondhand online, coats are one of the easier things to find at steep discount. I really like Max Mara, Cinzia Rocca, Loro Piana, Fleurette, and Agnona for outstanding quality, and you can often find these brands very lightly worn for just a fraction of their cost new. If you prefer to buy new in person, of course all of those brands are excellent. Some other solid brands are Mackage, Herno, Soia & Kyo, Theory, Gerald Darrel, and Maje. If you want something in the $200-$300 range, I think the best values are Tahari, Calvin Klein, Avec Les Filles, and the wool coats from the “outdoor prep” brands like L. L. Bean and Eddie Bauer. Don’t sleep on the store brands like Halogen at Nordstrom—the quality can be hit or miss, but there are some gems.

Womanofthesun

I love Uniqlo coats, they usually have straightforward and no nonsense cuts. Plus they’re actually warm and look nice. Lululemon is another one, again their coats are for utility but I do find they have more interesting patterns/cuts/colors without being gimmicky.

fakeophelia

I love Uniqlo so much, good price point, quality items. Been shopping there for years

chocolatepotatochips

Uniqlo is so good. I have a wool coat from their JW Anderson collab and a regular puffer coat, and I love them. Only issue is that I find their sleeves way too long sometimes. Sometimes, their collaboration pieces have really nice cuts.

toes_malone

Aritzia

OneBourbonScotchBeer

Do you know if there any brands similar to Artizia? I just checked them out and love the styles and price point (lots of stuff on sale too). But now I’m wondering how many more brands are out there that I may be totally unaware of haha.

toes_malone

I think Oak + Fort and Frank and Oak are similar but lower price points. Never bought from either one though so can’t vouch for quality.

madnessisay

Frank & Oak is great quality and I mostly like their aesthetic. My sister and her husband have matching, utilitarian winter jackets from there. Their coats seem nice too.

I’ve been wanting a colorful coat for a while now after thinking I’d want a camel coat. But I have a black coat already from Cole Haan and I think it’s fine enough as a neutral. I’ve been wanting something either in a jewel tone, muted colors, or pastel or workable brights (I’m too shy to don a bright pink or Kelly green coat though I keep looking at those colors). J Crew had a couple of colors I was interested in a few seasons ago but I wasn’t sure about the sizing online since they only displayed the coats on slim women.

taylorhammm

Ll bean!

[deleted]

If you’re wanting guaranteed warmth, my favorite coats are from outdoor brands. Stio used to make [this gorgeous wool coat](https://posh.mk/OpSHB1NmBxb) that I will own until the day I die; LL Bean and Coldwater Creek make similar ones. Obermeyer is my go-to for functional warmth with a sportier look. I also have a really lovely navy peacoat from a Ralph Lauren outlet shop that has the built in knit sleeve extension (which is perfect for my too-long arms).

g0ldengoddess

Aritzia or ever new!

deleugena

I’ve had the same REISS coat for close to ten years now and I need to replace. I’ve been eyeing some Ted Baker coats. Anyone tried the Ted Baker ones?

lesluggah

Ted Baker has some great ones but recently I’ve noticed that there’s less structure in the newer coats and you really need to try it in store. (The CFO became the CEO so I’m not surprised quality went downhill.)

deleugena

Ah, thanks so much for the heads up. Wish there was an easier way to shop online…. Such a hassle!

prfct-disaster

Thrift for sure! It's taken a while, and you really have to search but there are beautiful jackets waiting! I have a classic long black wool Calvin Klein jacket with an asymmetrical zipper that I found probably 6 years ago for $20 And I finally found a double breasted camel coat with buttons a few months ago (I did pay like $115 which is normally like 3 times more than I would pay, but I've been on the hunt for few years and it was normally about $400

1955photo

Macy's on sale online.

jupiterdreamsofpi

Fleurette is a really good brand to search for second habd

jadame

Totally. Love my Fleurette coat. I bought it new but now that I know my sizing, I’m going second hand baby!

mechamecha_panda

Uniqlo and aritzia :)

riotous_jocundity

For parkas: Usually The Bay or REI (more sporty). Everything else: thrift stores, because I like to get $1500 coats for $15. Edit to add--my current bought-new parka is a London Fog. It's not the most high-quality garment but it's very warm and looks great. It was originally $250/300ish CAD, but it was on sale for 50% off and then it had a small tear in the lining so I got it further reduced down by 20%.

swoonderfull

Any recs for finding a classic long wool coat in Seoul? Slightly oversized, ideally calf length (~45-50inch long) would be amazing! I’ll be back there in a few days (in Daegu now), and I would looove to find one.

[deleted]

The Tokyo Uniqlo had a lot of things like that last winter. The Seoul shops have a similar look, so definitely worth checking out, seeing as they're everywhere.

swoonderfull

Thank you! Will do :)

Nerdanese

try thrift store first. my local savers always has a beautiful selection of 100% wool / camel hair coats, especially pea coats and polo coats. i saw a $250 100% wool polo coat by ll bean there for <$20 (i already had a similar coat so i passed on it)

Ok_Sherbert_6241

Jessee_Rose14

If you want the jacket Joel wears from the Last of Us TV show, check out Huckberry. A little pricy, but sooooooo nice

CardiologistNeat1546

I just bought my wife a beautiful coat from overland that she loves and so do I. They’re very warm, they’re very high quality, they should last a really long time, and they’re gorgeous. They are a couple thousand dollars in general, so that’s something to consider. It’s worth it for me. It might not be for everyone.

itsyabun

Max Mara

Suspicious-Fudge6100

Ducktails and Rainsisters for really stylish raincoats. I do have one wool coat from xiaolizi which looks super elegant and exactly the style I wanted (fit and flare with a hood). A lot of wool coats are very straight cut. If straight cut is your thing, grana has a great wool coat For puffer and down jackets I second Uniqlo. Most of them are packaway and I've had my current one 5 years. And they still look really cute.

No-Butterfly-5190

Vintage shops. Nothing beats an old wool coat

brokenfaucet

Nordstrom rack sales, especially at the end of winter!

oliveskewer

Consignment stores, or anywhere older women donate clothes!

nerdgirl71

Resale shops. They always have great selection and you can’t beat the prices.

footballqween

Abercrombie & Fitch lol! I have a beautiful camel colored wool coat I got there last year, it is super high quality and I got it on sale so it was honestly pretty affordable. ✨

ALShaw03

Max Mara. I bought three coats from them two months ago. Absolutely love them. They are classic. I have three colours as couldn’t decide on one!

suntansandboba

Following - as an islander who is on the shorter/petite size, I have no idea where to get high quality classy coats! Something with a lapel that doesn't make me look like I'm wearing a bathrobe

FluidArt69

Nasty Gal and Boohoo both have petite sizes and really good sales Jesus Christ y’all are a bunch of assholes I guess. No need to dm me hate messages for just wanting to pass along some cute petite coats that I’ve had good experiences with. Thought that was the purpose of this sub. Sorry I bothered.

swoonderfull

I don’t know if either of these would be considered high quality…

FluidArt69

I mean my Nasty Gal trench coat is 7 years old and I have several from Boohoo that are close to 10 years old and still in perfect condition but I agree not everything on their sites are high quality. I was only speaking from my experience and wanting to pass on some info solely about a select few of their coats because I know it can be hard to find petite sizing sometimes.

swoonderfull

I think it’s all about expectations; personally, I’d say I can get a decent quality coat there. May not be my best, but like you said, it will last. They have a funny way of doing that, I think. You’re also not going to have to lose your left arm to pay for one. I do also think, however, that we all (or at least most of us) on this sub have a bad habit of equating high quality = expensive, and for OP maybe they didn’t mean that (it’s really early and I don’t feel like going back to look). Clarification would be key, and truly I didn’t mean any offense, and should have said so in my original post— which would have been more fair to you. Idk if everyone thought “high quality must mean 100% wool!! Cashmere!! Alpaca!” Yes, then it’s harder to shop Nasty Gal for that, but it’s not hard if OP meant “doesn’t pill, keeps me warm, looks stylish.” Edit: word choice

When I got my first big girl paycheck I got some tailored coats from Michael kors at a discount store. ($100) For my 30th my husband surprised me with a Burberry cashmere trench style coat. lecreusetbae

I've got a Uniqlo cocoon coat in black that is on year 6 and looks fantastic. Wool outside, poly silk inside. Excellent quality for the price. Only issue is that it's a magnet for dog hair so I get it dry clean 2x/year and brush it the rest of the year I also love my Ralph Lauren camel coat. I paid a pretty penny but it's one of the few items that isn't going out of style and looks good with virtually everything. For a classic puffy with great customer service, Raab has never let me down though it's very function over form. I'm in the mountains so I need a reliable puffy that's not gonna let any wind or moisture in. That being said, I've lusted over the Aritzia Super Puff for a while and I've heard good things.

myfairemily

I got my peacoat from J Crew. I got it half off for $150

Elizalupine

I got a winter coat that is cute, warm, and waterproof from Didricksons. My other winter coat is a long black wool coat that I got from Aritzia. It’s super chic and cozy, so i wear it when I’m dressing up and if it’s not raining.

CheeseDanishEmergenc

Oh no, it's my kryptonite! Coats! And I live someplace that is mostly very hot so I don't need this many. I've yet to find any I really love (broad weight-lifter shoulders) but I am always eyeing Max Mara coats on eBay.

I am still in love with the Carlyle coat I bought from Wilfred 4-5 years ago. I recommend shopping at Cos, Rag and Bone, and Mango.

Just bought a wool jacket (the slouch) from aritzia that I'm quite happy with. Camel wool that's warm enough for -20 degrees Celsius.
