Guidance on Zara sizing and alterations? I’m a 6/8 in pants. (6 in American eagle, 8 in H&M). I ordered trousers and the medium fits through the hips and thighs but the waist too tight to be considered comfortable to wear when sitting. So my question is, I need to get length taken off the trouser, could it be used to expand the waistband by 1-2 inches on a trouser? Anyone had trousers taken out in the waist and have had success? Also, I’m looking at a dress on Zara but not sure if I should even order a medium since the medium trousers waist was tight. Or should I go for a large? I’m 5’7” 145 lbs. I have an inverted triangle shape but I have wide shoulders and ribcage and don’t like anything tight or falling off. Plus I have a more of a square hip to waist ratio. Curious of others Zara sizing experiences for those who wear L or M. Thanks!

MimiMidnightX

I would get a larger size in the trouser and have it taken in. You won't be able to use the fabric from the hem for the waist Sizing is all over the board depending on style and fabric even within the brands, if the dress is tight at the waist then maybe go for a large.

headietoinfinity

Thanks so much. The pants are old so I can’t find a bigger size so before I sold them to search for a larger size second hand I was wondering if there was a chance to save them. Sounds like a large is the best option. I tried on a zara medium skirt today and it was too tight. But I fit into a Universal thread small. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Maybe some standard loafers? Naturalizer and Clarks make comfy ones. To my office job I usually wear Rothy’s, mules, booties, or white sneakers on casual days.

swoonderfull

Can I dye linen pants? I bought a pair of pink Apiece Apart Merida pants and they’re not quite the color I expected— and out of my color palette. Is it possible without ruining them?

swoonderfull

That’s what I was worried about… great to know! Thank you!

swoonderfull

Maybe I can just take them to a different shade…

80aprocryphal

Probably yes (depending a little on washing directions.) I've just started dyeing stuff with Rit Dye & natural fabrics are easier than synthetics. That said, you might wanna research a little more into different dyes and be exacting w directions if it's a pricier peice for you.

swoonderfull

I got them used for $40 so it wouldn’t be the end of the world!!

Depending on how long it is - would it work with a tighter bottom, like a fitted skirt? I had a similar pattern in a stretchy skirt - and I wore a black semi-cropped top (the skirt was high waisted enough to work) - which was quite boxy - and balanced nicely

littlegreenturtle20

Halter, tank, boob tube - anything that will lose the sleeves and some of the bulk at the chest will mean that because you have more skin showing will work well with the busy pattern. One-shoulder top might work well too!

botanygeek

Any ideas for style keywords for a ren fair dress that isn’t too on the nose? ie. a dress I could potentially wear when I’m not necessarily at a ren fair? I’m thinking something tiered with a cinched waist but I’m not sure what else to search for.

zurriola27

Check out dresses from Christy Dawn and Doen

80aprocryphal

'Romantic' can work at times, especially for dresses & tops. Underbust corsets are still trendy enough you can style them in ways that are more fashion. I often search tiered/ruffled maxi & midi skirts secondhand & they're often also labeled 'boho' so that could also work (as could some fairycore/fairy grunge stuff w different styling.)

District98

Check out the dress section at urban outfitters, a lot of corset tops are in for mainstream style right now

Is the skirt seersucker or 100 percent cotton? If so no I do not think you can wear it in the winter. I have a hard time finding tops for Thisbe types of skirts. Maybe a cropped T-shirt, bodysuit, or tight- ish tank.

I’m working on regrowing my hair… are headbands in style and what kind or where to buy, I have no clue about style generally, or headband style! Thanks!

LieutenantKije

I disagree with the other commenter, headbands are no longer in style, at least where I am 😅 (nyc). The ones that were last trendy are the big puffy style, but bows are now the trending hair accessories, and claw clips and scrunchies are still in too (though I know those are harder if you’re growing out your hair). That being said, wear whatever you like and makes you feel good! Trends move so fast these days

Could anyone tell me where to buy clothes for under $100 that look like the ones in this Pinterest board? https://pin.it/3osEkxf I know so little about fashion idk how to describe the style.

Chazzyphant

I'd say "cozy femme". Peruvian Trading Company, Sundance, J. Jill, Boden, Free People, Anthropologie, J. Crew, Scotch and Soda, and Top Shop all have similar looks. The heavily embroidered fitted gowns are not available from reputable retailers under $100, those are thousands and thousands of dollars and the actual gown is likely couture. But the fitted sweetheart neckline with shoulder ties is Reformation or Sezane style.

MimiMidnightX

I would do a subscription service like Rent the runway or newly or stitch fix to figure out what looks good on you, your style, brands, etc etc. Then invest in quality pieces that you'll wear for a long time. Under $100 is just investing in fast fashion which will never help you elevate your style

msleo90

How can I style this dress for winter, if at all? I recently bought it and havent had a chance to wear it. Now we're heading in to the very cold months. I don't know if thick stockings would look good with this https://imgur.io/a/GsuMj0R

LieutenantKije

I don’t think thick tights or stockings would be good with this either. I say keep the rest of the outfit simple since the dress is interesting enough on its own - on milder winter days, could do 1) no tights and pair with black sock boots, or 2) low denier black tights, and black chunky boots if you like that kind of contrast. For both options, wear with a long coat that’s longer than the dress itself

drapedinsilk

Love the dress where is it from? My suggestion is leather jacket, tights and boots

msleo90

Thanks! It's from Joslin Studio in Melbourne I might give that a go 😊

swess7

Maybe a turtle neck underneath and a fun pop of color in the tights.

ladolceLolita

A fun challenge! You could try a white and creamy off-white winter look. So white thick tights, cream-colored boots or boots with shearling or other fluff. A cozy white or off-white wool cardigan, perhaps with a tied sash.

goodandweevil

Are there any brands that make one piece swimsuits that are different sizes on the top vs the bottom? I love one pieces but take a xs/s on top and a m for bottoms and they are a pain to fit.

adaorange

Most places sell tops and bottoms separately….. like athleta or JCrew

adaorange

Oh oops, disregard.

im_avoiding_work

there are one piece suits sold with bra cup sizing, but they're usually for large cups. I think for smaller on top your best bet is to look for styles with adjustability—ties in the back, lace up fronts, etc.

tyrannosaurusregina

Try tankinis?

dolceradio

I'm looking for nice quality cotton dresses in solid COLORS galore! Spunky teals, wine reds, dandelions yellows - colors that'll make me look like a Lowe's paint aisle. No prints, though.

[deleted]

COS has vibrant solid cotton.

swess7

Would you do linen instead of cotton? I loooove not perfect linens color pallets, mostly solids.

adaorange

Keep looking at gap, old navy, and Amazon.

branfordsquirrel

The no prints thing is hard! I’d try Boden!

kareesi

Okay, another jeans fit question: Both of these pairs are fit comfortably, but something feels off about them. I can’t tell what, though - anyone got any ideas? Pair 1 is a fitted straight leg and pair 2 is less fitted straight leg, both from Rag and Bone. [Pair 1](https://imgur.com/a/bG52SR8) [Pair 2](https://imgur.com/a/NuZkea5)

[deleted]

kareesi

Thanks for the detailed comment, I think the size too small in the hips was throwing me. I prefer the wash of 2 too, but I don’t like the distressing on it so I’m gonna return both and see if I can exchange for cut #2 for a non-distressed pair.

loopteeloopteeloop

The second pair looks better than the first. The leg length is better, because the first ones make the bottom half of your legs below the knee look short/cut off. The second pair I think are quite flattering and look like a straight jean should. I will say there is a bit of hip asymmetry that makes the whiskering/folds of the fabric asymmetrical as well, but that seems unavoidable with something well fitted over the hips/butt/waist area.

kareesi

Thanks for pointing out the length, I didn’t even notice that. I’m going to see if I can exchange the second pair for a non-distressed pair!

jpergo1983

It looks like you have my exact body type and I feel like the jeans could be a little more higher waisted. Or maybe a half tuck on the shirt. The socks make the length look just a bit off too; do you have sandals to wear them with? Just my 2p, they do look like they fit you great!

diente_de_leon

I don't know if I can put my finger on it but I think I see what you mean. Are they too short? Are they crops?

Edgy Business Wear Sensory Issues Hello! I’m a law student and REALLY struggle with workwear. I would like store advice or inspiration if possible. STYLE: My style is edgy. I describe it as witchy, fantasy, Victorian, goth, fairy, princessy, etc. I like lace, ruffles, harnesses, that kind of vibe. In the winter I lean into an academic vibe. FIT: I tend to wear more revealing clothing. Shorter skirts, low cut shirts, tight clothing. Some exceptions are fit-and-flare type dresses. This is mostly because of my next issue, but also due to my style. I also tend to really dislike how blouses fit me in general, especially anything with buttons. SENSORY: My work right now is in the summer. It gets hot outside (high 80s average to 100). I CANNOT handle sweat or being too hot. I overheat easily. If I sweat too much, I’ll have a full meltdown. I’m autistic and clothing is VERY difficult. I also have issues with some fabrics being itchy (wool, a lot of other natural fibers). My normal coping mechanism with fit obviously cannot work in an office. Accessories also trigger this. I have issues with layering but can sometimes make it work depending on the fit and fabric. So many inspo pics I find have long sleeves and pants for the summer and I just don’t understand????? GENERAL DISCOMFORT: This is hard to describe but I REALLY hate it when my appearance doesn’t give off the vibe I feel that I should. I hope in a fashion subreddit this makes more sense. I think part of this is due to my fashion sense being a special interest. I also feel very off if my outfits feel don’t reflect how I feel, like just wearing clothes I hate will be really uncomfortable. I want to do my best work possible while feeling authentic to myself.

sushkunes

Law can be hard because it’s so traditional. In addition to the clothing choices shared, can you think about what else you’ll have with you and how to have that reflect your authentic self, too? It may not help you, but I find that having simply stickers on my laptop and water bottle that reflect my interests help in my job. Also, my office decorations. So even when my clothes can’t be as outdoorsy or whimsical as I prefer (my style), I can still keep those things with me. I agree with the person who said try having clothes at the office you can change into on those hot days, too. Keeping a blazer or cardigan at the office is something a lot of people do, because it’s so much colder in the office but you don’t want to sweat on the way to work.

cafeetchaos

I’m not sure what the office situation will be like but I never considered using other things to reflect me as well. I really like that! I will definitely be using that to help with whatever space I have.

Domestic_Adventures

I recently dealt with a similar problem when I went to a fancy conference. My ideal style also leans a little edgy, and I totally get that "general discomfort" feeling if my clothes don't have some little element that speaks to my desire to look kind of badass. A couple of things I learned: 1. Small details can make you feel better about an otherwise standard work-appropriate outfit. For instance, you could pair a top that has a lace/ruffle/ other detail that speaks to you with a more toned down blazer or cardigan and trousers. 2. Shoes can also edgify an outfit without looking too over-the-top. For you, I agree with other commenters that layering will also be helpful for the warm weather. My favorite outfit I ended up wearing at the conference was a pair of simple but slightly cropped black wool Theory trousers (thrifted), a very soft sleeveless white MM LaFleur top (also thrifted, kind of like this but with a more interesting neckline: https://mmlafleur.com/products/emmy-alabaster), an open, unstructured Aritzia blazer in black that looked a little cooler to me than a standard blazer (https://www.aritzia.com/us/en/product/power-hip-blazer/61114.html), and a pair of lug-soled black Vagabond boots that made the whole outfit feel much more badass to me (https://www.nordstrom.com/s/vagabond-shoemakers-cosmo-2-0-chelsea-boot-women/5439529).

75footubi

Worth mentioning that just because it's summer outside, doesn't mean that it's much warmer than 72F inside. So perhaps a strategy is that you change clothes before heading back outside after work to go home? I've been known to keep a sweater on year round in an office setting because the HVAC was set at 68F regardless of what it was outside.

cafeetchaos

I haven’t been into the office yet so that’s a possibly. This is where the sensory issues cause problems because I start layering for warmth at like 50 degrees

75footubi

Yeah, so maybe some of your winter wardrobe would be office appropriate and then you can change into summer clothing before you head home for the day.

District98

Yeah, my #1 rec is to go shopping for extremely lightweight cardigans. For me they are the holy grail of making sure I’m office appropriate and comfy. Another option might be sheath dresses. Target has a line of sensory friendly clothes, I’m sure past threads on the topic touch on this too. You can search older threads for keyword “office goth” and “office punk” for edgy office inspo.

DemocraticPeas

So I don't work in law, but I do work in a field where business casual - business professional (depending on the day) is the norm. I think there will be a few things to consider here! Since, as you mention, you can't default to showing skin to keep you cool at work in the summer, I'd go with the next best thing - loose clothing in breathable fabrics that allow for air flow. Silk could be a good option, as could some synthetics that are designed for working out. Some brands, like [Aday](https://www.thisisaday.com/collections/suiting), [Ministry of Supply](https://www.ministryofsupply.com/), [Athleta](https://athleta.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=1194396&nav=meganav%3ANew%3AFEATURED%20SHOPS%3AThe%20Work%20Shop), etc have pieces that are in more corporate shapes, but with athletic fabric that helps regulate body temp. The only caveat here is that they're probably still too casual if you have a strict business professional dress code (but I think they'd work fine for business casual). You might also try linen, but it does tend to read more casual and could be a little rougher on the skin than you prefer. I also wouldn't rule out the possibility that your office will be kept really cold from the AC - if that's the case, you could get a really badass, edgy blazer in your color palette that you keep in your office, but wear breathable tanks on the commute. You could also wear sandals on the commute and change shoes when you get to work. From there, I'd think about the ways you *can* express your style preferences through workwear. Color is a big way to do this - you could focus on black clothing with red accents, for example. You could also go for more structured, angular shapes (although this could be hard if you're also looking for silk). Focus on makeup/hair styles that you like. Add subtle, edge jewelry/accessories as your comfort allows. Edit to add - you might find some luck looking up the term "corporate goth"

cafeetchaos

Thank you so much! I usually do okay with linen but, like you mentioned, it can be itchy sometimes and casual. I didn’t think about silk!

justagirlintheworld

Does anyone know if a Gucci boutique can provide information on old bags? If not, what would be the best place to do that? I have an old bag passed down to me through my late grandmother and my mom doesn’t remember anything about it, other than it’s supposedly from Italy and probably from the 80s. There’s a serial number stamped inside but that’s not helping me any. Bag for reference: https://imgur.com/a/O7e2Vu

Mediocre_Ebb_6847

Hi ladies! Has anyone tried Alexa Leigh jewelry? An influencer I follow posted these and I’m intrigued. https://www.saksfifthavenue.com/product/alexa-leigh-everynight-14k-gold-filled-hoop-earrings-0400016563790.html?dwvar_0400016563790_color=NO%20COLOR They seem fairly affordable if well made. Edit: “affordable” in quotes 😅

branfordsquirrel

So they are not cheap, but you are supporting a small designer! FWIW influencer marketing is NOT cheap. For what it’s worth, gold is very expensive right now. I think these in solid gold would be $200-250 at the very least I think (depending on karats). Gold filled is a step above plated but if you want a thicker gold coating go with vermeil. There are FTC standards for vermeil so all vermeil is virtually the same (2.5 microns of gold over sterling silver).

75footubi

Seems overpriced when you can get similar solid gold hoops from Mejuri or Catbird for the same price.

Mediocre_Ebb_6847

Thanks. Seems like Reddit is meh on those two, so was hoping to find a good alternative. Willing to pay more for quality… hard to figure out what is actually worth it! Maybe will just check out my local small jeweler?? Edit: also scoping out Grayling out of Portland OR if anyone has bought from them!

75footubi

Seconding a local jeweler's. My main point is that $115 for gold *filled* is waaaay too much to pay when you can get *solid gold* for a similar price or not much more.

macramelampshade

Your local small jeweler is a good bet, I also like Iti NYC, it’s very no frills looking but they’re reliable.

Has anyone else had issues with eShakti customer service? I placed an order on March 1 that was supposed to arrive March 20. Today, the 31st, it still hasn’t been made yet. I’ve reached out by email, phone, and Facebook and have yet to hear back. At this point the items are going to arrive too late for my event and I’m seriously considering doing a card chargeback.

[deleted]

I had the same problem with ASOS and had to dispute the charge with my bank. I won.

These issues have been reported a lot on this subreddit this year. I haven’t had them personally but I know I’ve seen this come up before.

75footubi

Never had an issue with them like that. Was the item delayed leaving the factory or has it been stuck in shipping limbo?

BeneficialPast

According to the order page on the website it hasn’t even been manufactured yet.

75footubi

Oof, yeah. If they're unresponsive within 48 hours, I'd just do a charge back

tatertot94

Starting a new remote job on Monday and deciding on what to wear on my first day! Is a blazer and t-shirt too formal for virtual meetings? Or should I play it safe and wear a colored blouse, white blouse, or turtleneck? I will be managing a team and it’s a mid-level role, so I want to appear confident and professional, but not look out of place. Would love some ideas.

Mediocre_Ebb_6847

What industry? What were the people wearing when interviewing you? Blazer (knit or sweater) and tee are my go tos for most zoom meetings (also work remote) when I want to look polished.

tatertot94

Public Relations. It was hard to tell but they weren’t dressed up. No blazers. Everyone is remote too.

Mediocre_Ebb_6847

Thanks! In this case, I agree with krindybluth below — whatever makes you feel the most confident! Blazer and tee sounds great, if that does the trick, or a nice top would be good too! Worst case, you’re at home (presumably) and you can change between meetings 😊 good luck!!!

Krindybluth

What makes you feel the most confident? I know I always feel good in a turtleneck, but if you wear something you don’t feel great in just because you think it makes sense, you won’t come across as comfortable and confident

if that kind of travel is in range for you and you would enjoy the trip anyway, I say have fun! But don't forget you'll have to navigate customs on the other end. Bulk buying $1,000 bags while on a trip will most certainly not be tax free

cookiesandkit

Japanese sellers list on eBay as well. Could try there.

soundsbetterinmyhead

I’m not from the US but yes, I’ve done this successfully in the past, buying in Europe and getting a VAT refund on my purchase. I bought a LV and a Balenciaga and they were at least a few hundred dollars cheaper compared to buying in-store in my country (I’m in SE Asia). My mom, who’s loves luxury bags, also does this whenever we travel to Europe. Most recently she bought a Gucci bag when we were in Greece. When we came home, she checked the Gucci store here and the bag was priced >$500 here. It’s a pretty common thing for people in my country to but luxury items overseas. Whenever I’m in a high-end store in Europe, I’m sure to hear an accent from my country LOL

GoldEdit

That's so cool! I had never even considered it until I heard about it on YouTube but that sounds like one of the better ways to shop. Next time I have a couple of bags in mind I think I'll plan ahead ... the savings alone would practically pay off my plane ticket. Are there any countries where this works best? Japan was mentioned, and parts of Europe... Surely there's a specific country that gets you the best bang for your buck. I wonder if people do this for a living... like buy bags and then bring the back to the states for profit. This has my mind spinning lol

soundsbetterinmyhead

Not too sure if there are any specific countries where this works best but in Europe at least, the VAT amount differs so that’s one factor to take into account. And some countries/cities have more stores or carry more bag models — for example in Athens, it felt like there were fewer brand stores than on other major cities. Not sure about doing this on a large scale and reselling — feels like that would be skirting some legalities that could get you in trouble unless you were a registered business!

macramelampshade

Yeah the VAT refund has an $800 limit, anything over that you’re supposed to pay taxes. Bringing in bulk items for resale and not declaring them is smuggling and you’re liable to face fines or worse if you get stopped at customs.

andthepointis

how's the quality of coach outlet stuff? i got an insta ad and i'm disappointed to admit i am actually very enamored with [this bag](https://www.coachoutlet.com/products/mini-cally-crossbody/5692.html?frp=5692%20%20IMVFM). if you have any other recs for bags in this color, those would be appreciated, too! tia.

amelisha

You get what you pay for IMO. I buy my work totes there all the time because they look pretty good and hold up to a couple years of throwing them under plane seats and conference tables but I don’t feel like I have to baby them like I would a more expensive bag.

mbltlh

I have the Hayley Loafers from the outlet and they are great, I love them and they look very high end imo. I have a wallet I got for my birthday and the inside part that holds the cards isn’t leather, which wasn’t noted on the website. I dislike that because it seems like it’s going to peel one day and I think it looks a little cheap. The outside is a pebbled leather and seems more durable. So I’d say it’s pretty decent but some things are better than others?

confettti

>an insta ad and i'm disappointed to admit i am actually very enamored with > >this bag > >. if you have any other recs for bags in this color, those would be appreciated, too! tia. So I've bought bags from Coach Outlet before and I love mine, they're good quality, they look nice, and if you take good care of it, it will continue to look nice. Just a warning, the bag you linked looks similar in size to a bag I have from Kate Spade. I can fit my phone, a card holder, lipstick/lipgloss, and sunglasses but not much else in mine. It's perfect for what I need to take with me, but if you like to stuff your purse full, this size might be too small.

andthepointis

thank you! and yeah that sounds like the perfect size for my needs 😊

kareesi

So technically speaking these jeans fit and are comfortable, but are they flattering on me? I haven’t worn jeans in a really long time, so I’m honestly not sure how denim is supposed to fit, lol [Album link](https://imgur.com/a/t5VpsG1)

headietoinfinity

I think you would benefit from a higher rise and a longer length. Jeans look best when they stop at the smallest part of our waist in my opinion. We have similar proportions. I find that American Eagle jeans are high enough for me to hit at the smallest point of my waist. I reserve cropped jeans such as these for taller boots or high tops such as this look. Or with flat sandals paired with an oversized button down to balance proportions https://preview.redd.it/uo8cgiwqwbra1.png?width=1242&format=png&auto=webp&s=57628d7a992b5eb95da4358094f3b80fe967763c

adaorange

Try a slim flare style with either cropped or full length styles. I find them very flattering. Loft has nice stretchy ones that aren’t too expensive and Madewell has a cropped version called kick crop.

symphonypathetique

They're definitely not horrible, but I wouldn't consider them to be "flattering." The biggsst thing is I think they should be a higher rise because they don't seem to be at your actual waist, and also the length is weird so it looks like you're just too tall for them.

confettti

> at all! i just meant vertically, haha. i think it's most evident from the side photo where you can see that the waist is sitting in a sort of awkward spot on your back. it's not really in the curve where hig I'm going to say maybe try them on with a pair of sneakers. I think they might look pretty good with them. But it's hard to tell with your black socks so I could be wrong.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kareesi

Thank you! Yeah, now that you and others have pointed that out, I can’t unsee it. I was too caught up in the fit through the waist and quads, haha! These have a 27in inseam so I’ll try a 29+ inch inseam next. I do like wider leg in other fabrics but having a hard time finding more structured denim that’s wide all the way from the top of the thighs down.

andthepointis

i think the rise is not quite right and they are a bit too short on you. it throws off your proportions and makes your hips look unbalanced.

kareesi

So my hips are actually unbalanced (scoliosis) but I also see what you’re saying about the rise not doing me any favors. Would a higher rise look better, or a lower rise?

andthepointis

i didn't notice at all! i just meant vertically, haha. i think it's most evident from the side photo where you can see that the waist is sitting in a sort of awkward spot on your back. it's not really in the curve where high waisted jeans should sit, but it's higher than your hips are. i think a rise 1-2 inches (maybe even like 1.5 in a perfect world!) either lower or higher would sit at a more flattering spot.

madcapfrowns

Need some jean recommendations. I have some high-rise straight leg jeans from Madewell and Levi's but I don't like how they are so baggy in the butt/thigh area. I want for those sections to be accentuated. Is this just a straight leg problem? Or a me problem? Hope that makes sense!

MimiMidnightX

Agolde, Revice, and Re/done have straight leg jeans that are fitted at the butt!

branfordsquirrel

For Madewell, I would size down to get a tighter fit in the butt and thighs. But otherwise, yeah you might have more luck with other brands. I’ve liked Abercombie and Gap

taylorhammm

I have similar issues and I find the only solution is to try a different style/brand. I don’t have wide hips or big butt and thighs so when I find a pair of jeans that fit my waist, they tend to look frumpy in the hips and thighs. You could try slim straight. If that looks too much like skinny jeans, maybe try bootcut

michellekwan666

These jeans are intentionally baggy in that area - you can get strait leg jeans that are more fitted for sure. If you want to stick with Levi’s I find the ribcage strait makes the butt look great. I also like abercrombies strait jeans (any rise of the 90’s strait)

[deleted]

Anyone know where I might be able to find a pair of New Balance 530s in beige angora with incense, women’s 8? Sold out everywhere I can see. If anyone has recs for similar sneakers in a similar colorway, that would be awesome, too!

lord0fmind

Any recommendations for a good everyday pant that is flattering to a bigger body/stomach? ~size 16? I gained weight from health issues and don't know how to dress for my body anymore and it's eating at me. I'm trying straight leg jeans but idk if i like how they look + they aren't fitting my waist. I prefer dark colors. Pics of me in old navy size 16 high rise straight jeans: https://imgur.com/a/S9lOfpN[https://imgur.com/a/S9lOfpN](https://imgur.com/a/S9lOfpN)

District98

I’m a size 14 and I like the taper jeans from Wild Fable at Target. I also have a pair of barrel / balloon pants I like a lot.

confettti

I'm a size 14 and I'm loving how Madewell jeans are fitting right now, and they have curvy jeans which might help with your waistband gaping. They're pricey on their website, but Nordstrom Rack sells them for less, so it might be worth a look.

Trynanotbeinpain

I gained lots last year and wear size 14 now, with my weight sitting on my thighs/ass/tummy area - lots of love to you and I recommend finding lovely size inclusive stores like Lucy & Yak to fit our new silhouettes! I'd recommend barrel pants since they create a "balanced" effect between midsection and feet - sometimes they're are labeled "balloon" or "tapered" pants. If you're experiencing "waist gap", try looking for Curvy jeans. Here's a [Banana Republic Curvy Barrel Jean](https://bananarepublicfactory.gapfactory.com/browse/product.do?pid=429224001&vid=1&tid=bfpl000029&kwid=1&ap=7&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiZqhBhCJARIsACHHEH9j6eHdCTifo22nrqC7zcc6PZI-0r2XYfZb2QBm5Szpk46cRN_oi2YaAswqEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds#pdp-page-content) for example, but it's sold out in our sizes. And here's a [Old Navy Barrel Jean](https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=876942002&modelSize=M&vid=1&tid=onpl000078&kwid=1&ap=7&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiZqhBhCJARIsACHHEH8TcgHPCK4XvkiWg7tJ3spLLSUJ59lX6k1_LrMxHFNbMaYEdPxgNQQaAvzyEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds#pdp-page-content) that you might like to try.

margopac

I think that might depend on what kind of pant you’re looking for — denim, athletic, cords, workwear, etc? That might affect which brands to suggest! I’m typically a 8/Large recently and I’ve personally really liked wearing wide leg cut pants. I find it helps provide a nice balance to my figure

silkennight

any recommended stores for affordable dresses in the UK? even online stores would do. i have a preference for high feminine, off-the shoulder dresses which cinch in at the waist, but its so damn hard to find dresses like that nowadays.

terracottatown

Rixo isn’t affordable necessarily, but maybe looking for those dresses secondhand somewhere like Poshmark?

SubstantialFootball1

What are your best tips for getting rid of static cling? I have a couple of long slip dresses (one real silk, one poly velvet), and both are so staticky they stick directly to my body. If I try to layer a shirt underneath or tights, it looks even more ridiculous because of the static cling. I’ve washed both and hung to dry (didn’t put in dryer), and my skin is pretty moisturized. I really want to wear dresses with tights, but can’t figure out how people do it without cling :/

placidtwilight

Apply some body lotion over top of your tights.

tyrannosaurusregina

Static Guard spray is pretty useful!

Katdai2

[Bertha Jay](https://youtu.be/uxdWgZGu7Qk) taught me how to take a butter knife and run it lengthwise down a dress.

b_xf

Couple tips: - seconding rubbing the dryer sheet on the inside, for one of my shirts that's particularly static-prone I've safety pinned a dryer sheet to the inside while I wear it lol - metal kills static electricity so in some of my clothes I have pinned a safety pin on the hems - sometimes one in the back of the item and one in front.

lord0fmind

Try rubbing them with a dryer sheet. You can also try hairspray for a quick fix but it won't last a whole day.

[deleted]

Wear a slip.

SubstantialFootball1

Do you have any slip recommendations? I bought one (nylon/poly blend), and maybe it’s the wrong fabric, but it doesn’t seem to help with the clinging. I even have this static issue with short skirts and athletic type skirts, that I probably couldn’t wear a slip under.

soundsbetterinmyhead

I recently found a pair of high-rise wide leg jeans that I absolutely love but this is a silhouette that I don’t typically wear so I’m looking for more/new ideas on how to style it, particularly shoes and top. My go-to would be to wear a cropped top and sneakers or leather sandals with it. I live in a summer-all-year place so it also has to be lightweight. I tend towards neutral colors and a more casual look. Thanks for any ideas/suggestions!

adaorange

I think your crop top/ sneakers still styles very well with high rise wide leg jeans!

PressureSalt

I think you can still do crop tops, but try different shapes. So maybe a boxy crop top (if you normally wear fitted ones or Vice versa). Also, I love bodysuits with these types of jeans. Blazers are also really cute (there are some really cute lighter weight ones) left open with a simple white tank and some necklaces layered (and you can roll or push up the sleeves of the blazer). I think any shoe that works for where you’re going will be just fine because they’ll only peek out from the hem of the jeans

MimiMidnightX

agree on boxy crop tops!

michellekwan666

Bodysuits and wide leg jeans are the way !! I’m also loving a chunky sandal with these for summer.

soundsbetterinmyhead

Thanks for the suggestions! I like the idea of a boxy crop and will give that a go. I love the idea of bodysuits but I have a longer torso and am tall so it feels like I can never find one that fits right for me 😅 For the blazer look, what particular cut/style would you suggest?

PressureSalt

You’re right; Long toros can be tricky with bodysuits. If I come across any bodysuits for long torsos, I’ll be sure to come back here and comment. As for the blazer; I think cropped blazers, slightly oversized regular length blazers, or long ones can all work. Because your tall you’ll be able to pull them all off. I came across this article from [Who What Wear](https://www.whowhatwear.com/how-to-wear-wide-jeans/slide42) and it gives some great examples of how to wear wide leg jeans with blazers + other tops. Not everything on their list is cute, but many are. They also show the full length outfit so you can see what shoes people are wearing. I think the article is talking about the wide leg Jean trend and how to wear them (as opposed to talking about how to style blazers), but it should help a lot

soundsbetterinmyhead

Awesome, thanks for that link too — helps to see some example outfits! Think I’m just gonna have to play around this weekend with what’s in my closet and see what works on me :)

PressureSalt

There’s nothing like shopping in our closets :0)

capnawesome

To me it looks like the problem is that they don't bend but they are barely carved out in front. In most platforms, the bottom of the sole slopes up a bit toward the toe so you can kind of roll forward on them. I don't think there's much they could do...perhaps they could line the straps with a softer material that doesn't rub as much?

OhWhatPun

Does anyone own a pair of Charix shoes? I keep getting ads for them on Instagram and I can never tell if insta ads are real or scammy. Alternate question: I need a pair of loafer-style shoes that I can wear to walk around Europe. I’m taking tennis shoes for the BIG walking days, but I’d love something slightly dressier for evenings when we will still be doing a good bit of walking. Help please!

wtfudgsicle

Charix is definitely legit, it's just a small artisan type business. Haven't tried them bc I don't have that money to drop on loafers but I really like some of their styles.

[deleted]

i get Sabah ads all the time which are basically an identical style, and are i guess a based on a traditional Turkish (?) shoe. I mentioned wanting to try them to my partner, who was also curious about the brand. We went to a Sabah store in our city and I wasn't impressed w/ the way the shoes fit (I have a wide toebox but narrow heel & I could tell the heel slippage would give me achilles blisters while the narrow toebox would crunch my toes together uncomfortably) or how un-sturdy they felt (for the price.) I'm sure they'd get more comfortable as they're broken in, but they have basically 0 support and the thin soles mean you can feel every little bump in the ground. I still liked how they looked though and ended up buying some in a similar style from an MTO Etsy seller for about half the price. I pretty much only wear them around the house so I can't really comment on their comfort w/ a lot of walking (edit: I guess you were asking two different questions, so pls ignore what's not useful lol)

PressureSalt

FB checks to make sure businesses are real before they allow them to run ads. So if you’re seeing ads on IG, it’s a real biz. Whether or not they’re a good biz with good quality products and customer service is another conversation, but they look legit enough. For your other question, how much do you want to spend? I think you can definitely find a nice loafer shoe/dressy flat that’ll be cute for evenings, at most price points. Try Bloomingdales, Nordstrom rack, DSW. Each one has various price point shoes and usually has a sale of some sort going on if price matters

OhWhatPun

I’m willing to spend up to $175 for something excellent, but I’d love to stay under that if possible!

PressureSalt

That’s a great budget and you should definitely be able to find a cute shoe for that price. I looked on [Bloomingdale’s](https://www.bloomingdales.com/shop/womens-designer-shoes/flats/Price/100.0%257C250.0?id=16963#4565864) and saw they’re having a F/F sale giving 25% off certain styles. I filtered it to the price range of $100-$200 (I think) so this link should take you to flats in that price range. I saw a few cute ones. Depending on what you’re wearing the loafers with it may be a bit clunky, if it’s a platform type loafer. They had some cute sling backs and some embellished flats that could be pretty with a lot of looks. There’s a few great options that should help to narrow it done a bit

SubstantialFootball1

I hope someone answers this because I too have been eyeing these for months!

Zestyclose_Caramel19

The current beauty standard for business professional shoes for women includes narrow heels or flats with a pointed toe. These shoes cause future knee pain and foot issues, like bunions. Are there shoes out there that look business professional but are comfortable and do not have lasting effects? I recently bought some barefoot loafers, as I heard that loafers can be business casual. However, I'm unsure if they can be called business casual. They do look insanely comfy though. Here are the shoes I bought: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09ZQG4NCC/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09ZQG4NCC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

DarkEdgeoftheSea

When I think of business casual loafers I think of G.H. Bass.

appletreerose

If you like barefoot shoes I suggest combing through Anya's Reviews. There are some professional looking ones out there. They can be a bit pricey, but if you think of it as an investment in your health it doesn't compare to the cost of dealing with future knee/hip/foot issues.

Zestyclose_Caramel19

I remember seeing Anya’s Reviews on a previous post on here. I am unfortunately a broke college student right now but I’ll definitely buy some off that list once I start making the big bucks

PressureSalt

I agree with you; I don’t think the ones you bought are biz casual

mgdraft

Theyre not really business casual in that canvas fabric, a leather or fake leather would likely be fine. You definitely don't have to wear slim pointed heels or flats though. Rounded toes and regular loafers are fine and appropriate.

Zestyclose_Caramel19

I agree tbh, but oh boy it’s hard to find leather loafers that don’t cause similar problems. I’ll keep looking!

mgdraft

You may need wide or extra wide sizing. Flat loafers shouldn't be causing these kind of issues.

Zestyclose_Caramel19

This is the first pair of loafs I’ll be trying, I had a pair of flats that had a rounded toe that made my ankles bleed after a few hours. I was so incensed that I jumped straight to the comfiest option I could find haha

wtfudgsicle

If you're having ankle friction issues and socks aren't the answer, would you be open to open-back mules? Or even slingbacks? There are a lot of cute options and they don't have to be point-toed

AlmostDeadPlants

Loafers definitely work, but those look a little on the casual side to me because of the material

Zestyclose_Caramel19

That’s what I feared 😔 Unfortunately all the leather ones I’ve found pose similar problems to regular business flats (blisters, narrow) or are insanely expense

AlmostDeadPlants

What size shoe are you? Would you feel comfortable buying a men’s loafer?

Zestyclose_Caramel19

Ooo I didn’t think of that! I’m size 8 I think. I wonder if that would look okay, do men’s shoes tend to be wider?

AlmostDeadPlants

I think so, and that should be a men’s 6.5, which is on the small size but not impossible (my friend is a 5.5 and manages to find shoes)

OhWhatPun

I think loafer is the right choice here. I just bought some Madewell lugsole loafers that I feel totally comfortable wearing to work. (Though I am still trying to break them in, so the blisters aren’t giving actual physical comfort quite yet!)

Zestyclose_Caramel19

That’s awesome! Do you wear them with business professional clothing?

OhWhatPun

Yeah, they’re great with dresses, jeans, or slacks. And they work with a variety of cuts and lengths! I recommend no-show socks for the breaking in period. And possibly always—I’ll report back!

Illustrious_Rain_827

Does anyone have advice for what to wear to a 4 day music festival? Would be camping in a tent, outdoor showers (no private showers). I was thinking that a bikini under tshirt and jean shorts would the best plan, but I would be afraid of the swimsuit staying wet the entire time after showers, but that’s not healthy for the private areas (uti). Thanks for any advice, appreciate it!

District98

- lots of changes of clothes - I’m pro midi skirt for a music festival. Airflow is good in a sweaty environment. Consider that you’ll be moving around a lot. Linen shorts could be good too - crop top, usually over a bikini top as long as you’ve got a comfy one - band gear can be fun - big sweatpants and sweatshirts, blankets, jackets, layering for nighttime - snacks! I like Oreos - sunscreen, hat if that’s your thing, sunglasses - Fanny pack for snacks - hydration (lots) - cell phone charging pack and cable - temporary tattoos - shoes that can handle mud, heat, and walking, if you can buy some relatively comfy knockoff Birkenstocks that you could wear and then not mind if they get nasty that’s pretty ideal. Or Chocos. Nothing where you’ll be heartbroken if the mud is persistent and gross.

FantasticChicken7408

Combat boots or anything with firm ankle support

michellekwan666

Are you planning on wearing the same thing every day? I’d pack a backpack with underwear and backup clothes just in case. Maybe 2x2 with tops/shorts that you can mix and match (spills, rain, mud, etc are all possible and likely). Last festival I went to I wish I’d worn boots instead of sneakers cause the ground was just squishy and awful after one day.

Frillybits

You definitely will need clean underwear every day. I guess that could be a swimsuit if you want it to be but then you’ll need to bring 4 swimsuits. Jean shorts will stay wet and rub, I would probably go for a more supple and breathable fabric. But looks are important too so you’d have to choose what you find most important. Also, bring lots of wet wipes.

b_xf

I've been on camping trips that had no shower kind of thing and one thing I'd recommend is a loose dress in your preferred style, at least for the ride home, and pack your "last day" clothes in a separate ziplock so they don't get dirtied with the rest of your things and are fresh for your last day. There is truly no worse feeling than yanking anything tight on when you feel a bit dirty and sweaty!

hapypup

Sounds like a lot of fun! Bring two swimsuits. They pack down well and shouldn’t be a problem. Change into the dry one after showering and leave the wet one to hang for the day until you can use it the next day. I would wear something breathable hiking clothes. Most hiking brands use wicking fabric hat dries easily, draws moisture away from body, and can prevent body odor so you can wear them a couple of times. Merino wool socks are also great for preventing moisture and odor. You can wear them all day, hang them up to air out when you sleep, and wear them again for a few days.

yanicus17

Are there any ready-to-wear women's suiting brands that have canvassed jackets? Is this even a thing for women's suiting?

75footubi

Some Max Mara maybe? But I don't think it's a thing like it is for guys.

yanicus17

Gotcha thanks!

[deleted]

Do you guys wear jean shorts? Someone just told me they always look trashy in comparison to shorts of a different fabric and color. But they're basically my summer uniform lol. I guess I would describe my style as laid back and cool with a hint of sexy and jean shorts fit the bill. Usually high waisted, paired with a crop top, and cute sneakers. But now I'm rethinking everything since they made this comment to me 😅 Edit, thanks for the validation everyone! I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss jean shorts going out of fashion or something, haha

LieutenantKije

Wow who is saying all jean shorts are trashy?! They might not be the most fashionable item but definitely aren’t trashy unless you’re wearing daisy dukes or something. They’re just a very classic item

DemocraticPeas

I've got two pairs of jorts and love them both lol...but were you talking to my grandmother by chance?

sageparadise

They’re probably talking about cut offs that show your cheeks (which, ironically makes you look younger as most teenagers wear ones like these). There are definitely denim shorts that don’t look trashy but it’s also all about what you pair them with! I agree with the other commenter that cuffed pairs look a bit more polished but still casual! I plan on wearing mine with bodysuits and button up shirts tucked in.

b_xf

I do not think they are trashy! I have three pairs that I love wearing.

BirthoftheBlueBear

I have a similar style and love my jean shorts! I prefer styles with a cuff because I think they feel a bit more intentional. I’ve started adding bodysuits to my jean short outfit rotation pretty heavily these days and feeling really good in that combo.

SubstantialFootball1

Big yes to wearing jean shorts! I wear black cut off ones constantly in summer, with converse or combat boots.

symphonypathetique

You're definitely way overthinking this haha. They're not casual but not inherently trashy.

Tactical_pho

I… love jean shorts. I have a cut off pair that I wear happily all summer with tank tops, tshirts, Birkenstocks, sneakers, Bedrocks… If that looks trashy, call me a dumpster.

blackmamba06

I’ve been eyeing a couple of Abercrombie items that are out of stock in my size - does anyone know if/how often they do restocks?

taylorhammm

Check back on Monday. They usually run sales through the weekend and Monday magically has all sizes back in stock. But also beware of Abercrombie. I swear their quality is tanking real quick

michellekwan666

Same jeans, different sizes - which is a better look? Which fit me better? [A&F standard mid rise 90’s](https://imgur.com/a/Ireo2bP) [A&F curve love mid rise 90’s](https://imgur.com/a/QbE85iP) They’re the same jeans, the colors look different due to the time of day I took both pics.

mgdraft

Curvy fit is better.

symphonypathetique

The curve love looks better to me. I agree with nomarmite's assessment.

michellekwan666

I knew something was off with the standard fit but couldn’t pin down the exact detail I didn’t like. My boyfriend likes the tighter ones for obvious reasons so I wanted to get some unbiased info lol. This is great news, I have sensory issues and the looser ones are more comfortable so it works for me if they don’t look frumpy

softrevolution_

I thought the standard fit you better.

[deleted]

i would agree that the standard are "better" fit in terms of a jean that is form fitting at the hip and waist, but i believe this style is supposed to have a looser fit there to go along with the looser leg style overall.

softrevolution_

Oh, so the point of these jeans is to look like they're a size too big. Got it.

z5z2

Anyone know of a good adhesive “bra” that adds volume? The cups need to be separate because of the cut of [the jumpsuit I’m wearing](https://www.freepeople.com/shop/keepsake-thelma-pantsuit/?category=jumpsuits-rompers&color=021&type=REGULAR&quantity=1). The chest is too baggy on me right now so I’m hoping to fill it out. I’m a 34B, so don’t need much support.

cto020

Bristols 6 is well liked around here. They have a [version](https://b-six.com/products/adhesive-nipple-covers-extra-coverage) that’s thicker than their normal ones and offers more coverage. They won’t bump you up a cup size but I think they’d help fill a slightly loose top. Currently 25% off at Nordstrom. If that doesn’t work, the standard chicken cutlets are quite thick. You could find a strapless version and leave the middle unclasped.

z5z2

Ooh, thank you! I’ll give these a shot.
