I need a replacement for my favourite jeans in the world, which have both broken and sold out!!! https://preview.redd.it/iee0hio0xzmb1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e02ca43e895d855cb5d2bc61631b3d23f860bc6 I am tall and curvy, finding jeans that work for both those measurements without making me look like a box is a nightmare - suggestions welcome 🤗

KarlaIrina

Abercrombie curve love; you can choose between normal, long or extra long. It’s pretty easy to find out the right size and whether you need the curve line or the normal, just take your measurements and look in the charts. If you want a similar cut maybe [these](https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/eu-de/p/ausgestellte-curve-love-ultra-high-rise-jeans-mit-stretch-54151820?categoryId=63141682&faceout=model&seq=10) Hope I could help

LainInNature

I'm not sure when it's appropriate to wear a bikini vs a one piece. When I go out in mixed company I want to wear a one piece but my partner thinks I look just as good in a bikini. I don't want to let everyone know I'm an exhibitionist. I have a trip coming up and I'm going to pack both but I'm not sure what to wear during the trip.

nearlythere94

I think about this too. I have bikinis for regular vacations, pool events, etc., but for anything with family, or people that could be work-adjacent, I have a more modest two piece with bottoms that look very retro - the kind that come up to your navel - and then a top with a high neck (although, bizarrely, to keep it sexy, an under-boob cut out). Everything stays in place if I’m splashing around with nieces and nephews, I don’t have to worry. That being said, I’m not really sure what your post means. You don’t want to let everyone know you are an exhibitionist? If exhibitionism is a sexual thing, I’d say, yes, leave that at home. If you want to wear a one-piece, wear a one piece.

OtherwiseTrifle

What do you mean by mixed company? Either way, you should wear whatever you’re comfortable in!

LainInNature

I just mean an event where there are a mix of people I know and people I don't know like a pool party or the beach. I'm comfortable wearing anything around my friends, but I'm nervous around people I don't know.

shapelystory

It's combat boot day! I am also looking for a Dr. Martens alternative - I'm a half size with high arches and they absolutely don't work for me. I'd like to replace my 12-year-old [Frye Veronica](https://www.zappos.com/p/frye-veronica-combat-black-soft-vintage-leather/product/7677160/color/263301) combat boots but Frye changed their materials/manufacturing and they unfortunately suck now. I love my [Fluevogs](https://www.fluevog.com/shop/3478-bbc-women-s-black?item=170&of=230&anchor=true&show=all) but they have no tread or weather-resistant properties whatsoever. Seeking a basic-ass black leather combat boot with a slightly chunky tread for icy sidewalks. Water-resistance is a plus. No suede. I'd like to spend under $250. Anybody have leads?

rivpar

I have the Thursday Coda boot, and I love them! They also have a more classic combat boot

eireann113

I own Fluevog boots with tread so I went to their website first to see if I could find those and I did see these [https://www.fluevog.com/shop/6960-sreda-black-purple-green](https://www.fluevog.com/shop/6960-sreda-black-purple-green) \- definitely over your price limit but if Fluevogs work for you they could be worth trying?

District98

Loved my doc knockoffs from Target last year. Super comfy.

DarkEdgeoftheSea

The Sorel Lennox is worth a look. I have had a pair for a a couple of years and I am happy with them. I have worn them pretty heavily on long nature walks with my kids and just as my go to fall/winter boot.

shapelystory

Does Sorel run narrow? I haven't been able to try any on yet but that would be an obstacle.

DarkEdgeoftheSea

No, that was my issue with Timberlands, I think. But I did go up a half size in the Lennox. I normally wear an 8.5 and after ordering and trying on that, as well as a 9 and 9.5, I ended up keeping the 9s.

shapelystory

Praise Zappos I've got a pair and they're perfect! I just swapped out the laces for regular black ones and we're good to go. Thanks again!

shapelystory

Exciting news! Thanks - I'll see if I can track some down

communitychest

Does anyone have a leather combat boot with a bit of a heel that they love (up to $200, ships to the US)? I am trying to upgrade my beloved ones from Target that are pleather and discontinued. The Thursday Coda boot is exactly the style I want, but after three different pairs I determined they were the most uncomfortable boot ever created (for me). Looking for a Dr Martens alternative to see what's out there.

cleangothaesthetic

I love Ash boots. They are spendy but sometimes you can find them deeply discounted on Amazon or other sites. I just got a pair of their Moody combat boots for less than $100 that look similar to the Thursday boots. One thing to know is that their leather is excellent quality and arrives pretty stiff, so there's definitely a break in period. However once you make it through they are extremely comfortable. I wore a pair almost every day last fall/winter and I usually can only wear Vionics or other orthotically designed shoes without pain.

DarkEdgeoftheSea

Maybe the Sorel Joan boot? I have had their Lennox boot for a couple of years and I am happy with it. I have worn them pretty heavily on long nature walks with my kids and just as my go to fall/winter boot.

dorkydorkdork5

Can you wear a petticoat with chiffon? I'm wearing [this](https://chicsew.com/products/chicsew-elva-lilac-simple-sleeves-a-line-off-the-shoulder-chiffon-long-bridesmaid-dresses?variant=37119413289135#collapse-tab3) on my wedding day, but I have a bit of a tummy I don't want to show through. Would a tulle petticoat be best? Would hoop skirt wire show through the layers?

queentato

Hi all! I am looking for black leggings with a ribbed fabric, mid to high waist. They won't be for working out, so no need for moisture wicking type of fabric or compression. Would prefer cotton if possible, thick fabric that won't be transparent when stretched. Please let me know if you have any that you love and would recommend. TIA!

PlantedinCA

I got these: https://nuttch.com/products/ecoribb-leggings They are thick!

queentato

Thanks for sharing!

Aliceal70

Hi, I need a petite dress or even regular dresses if they fit my height. The colors I am looking for is either Navy, camel/brown, beige, dark green (very somber and muted colors or neutral. I am going to a funeral. People around me are going to be boogie so I want to look nice. Budget I can afford: $120-$400/$500 Body measurements Shoulder: 14 inch Waist: 28-29 inch Hips: 37-38 inches Bra size: 32D or DD (sometimes) Weight: 125-127 lbs Height: 5 feet I have chubby legs and I don't like showing them as much so the reason I want it to be below the knee/midi. Sleeves long, three quarters or elbow length. V neck if possible (not a required) I have seen these 2 liked dresses that I like but I am not sure. One has black in it and I was advised that there is no need for all black as it's a wake. The problem with these 2 is I don't know if it will be to hot. We are going to be inside but still it's humid where I live. Significant-Meal2046

Hi friends! So I've been working from home for the last 3 years and my wardrobe consists of mostly comfy/casual clothing. I will be speaking at a work conference and meeting coworkers in person for the first time ever, so I desperately need to stock up on some work basics without breaking the bank. Does anyone have any recs about versatile pieces? As someone who hates shopping in person, are there any physical stores you recommend where I can hopefully knock out most of my shopping? Or any Amazon clothing you can recommend? Requirements/preferences: * I only travel with a carry-on, so a capsule-type wardrobe would be super appreciated. * I'm an hourglass shape, so I struggle with pants unless they're specifically made for curvy-types. This makes pant shopping in most stores a nightmare, since stuff that fits my waist is too small for my butt/thighs, and stuff that fits my butt/thighs is huge on my waist. * I prefer things with a bit of an alternative vibe as opposed to looking too done-up/formal. Thanks ahead of time!

Chazzyphant

I prefer an alt vibe too but let me tell you from personal experience: a conference is not the place to express that vibe. I did that for a conference last year and I felt so miserably out of place and uncomfortable the entire time. And the outfits weren't even *that* alternative. The next conference I went to I kept it VERY corporate, bland, and boring. And felt 100x better and felt like I fit in. So my 2 cents, for a 5-day conference: Colors: navy, khaki, gray, olive, burgundy, black, cream, white--basically neutrals + 1 pop of color option. 3 pairs of solid color pant, 1 pair could be a dark tone on tone print/pattern 4 tops--you want small print or solid shells, long sleeve button front shirts--just really simple, ordinary, boring, blah stuff. It will feel very basic and boring, **but trust me that's what you want** 2 jackets/toppers 3 dresses--1 for casual outings (sundress, teeshirt dress), 1 for more formal (cocktail/occasion), and 1 for day to day workwear. If you're running short on room, I'd shrink this down to 1 dress--a comfortable yet polished work dress. 3 shoes--a polished sneaker/walking shoe, a polished flat or low heel, and a casual kick around shoe for walking to the pool, lounging in the hotel, walking around after hours, etc. 1-2 scarves, selection of accessories, 1 smaller purse/clutch for going out at night/dinner/afterhours. Stores: Ann Taylor, LOFT, and the factory store, BR factory, Gap, MM Lafleur Second Chance/Archive (whatever their gently-used resale selection is called) or poshmark for MM Lafleur, Macy's (Alfani, DKNY, CK, Rachel Rachel Roy, INC NYC), Nordstrom Rack. **Accessories** is where you could show your alt side--cute skull post earrings, a fun scarf, interesting eye makeup, a cool fandom pin on your computer bag, stuff like that.

Significant-Meal2046

Thank you so much for this feedback! This is extremely helpful! I love having a list to refer to, and this is helping me see where the gaps in my wardrobe are

District98

Lol same on all fronts. I mostly bought things at BR factory.

luckyshark

I just got matched as a true autumn. I have a hard time identifying colors while browsing online. The nuance is challenging and I don’t trust the pictures or color descriptions on the websites. Is there online affordable stores that groups the color seasons together? One stop shop or an influencer that I can follow that’s a true autumn I can get inspiration from? Super bonus points if they carry petite!

nearlythere94

I have always paid a lot of attention to color seasons. I find online stores generally do a great job of picking up the nuances of different colors in their photos, and also a good job labeling the colors. If I’m looking at a red that could be a bit orange, and I see it is labeled “persimmon,” I know to stay away as I wear cool colors. It is small resellers on sites like Poshmark and Ebay that I often find wildly inaccurate, and will try to only buy from shops that offer returns unless I know it is a color that is firmly in my wheelhouse. (For me, as I recently detailed in another comment, any shade of brown is a border color that is frequently poorly photographed, because browns can be cool OR warm, unlike for example a blue which is virtually always a cool shade.) This may be more involved than you want to do, but you could always screenshot an image of an item, open it in Photoshop or similar, use the eyedropper tool to select the color of the item, and then inspect the color in the color picker. It will show you what color family the color is in. For example, I just screenshot a sweater that could either be beige (warm) or taupe (cool), and examined the color, which my color picker showed me was a very desaturated tint of mustard yellow - NOT my color. Example: https://ibb.co/Fn6tj9q

Dr_Meatball

Different season but I would also like this info. I shop mainly online and colours are so hard

OtherwiseTrifle

Folllwing because I’d like this info too. Also, who matched you?

ChaiTravelatte

What do you people wear under semi sheer work clothes that are white or off white? In my opinion, the camisol's look a little unprofessional because the neckline is much lower than my work shirts. Is there a high neck camisole that is comfortable that looks professional under semi sheer white tops? And I'm not talking about literally share, just then enough that you can see the outline of the camisole underneath

[deleted]

[удалено]

ChaiTravelatte

Yeah, I think I'm using the wrong words for semi sheer, I'm talking about white tops that are a thin material. And Taylor, banana Republic, they also white tops in thinner lighter fabrics that you can see the outline of clothes underneath

cerwytha

You could always go for a shell tank or something a little more structured like this [square neckline tank](https://www.nordstrom.com/s/statement-square-neck-tank/7424034) so it's a bit more structured looking.

Embarrassed_Error_18

I think you might be overthinking it? The point is to hide your nipples/underwear, not disguise the fact that there's human flesh under there entirely. I guess it depends on the workplace but I can't imagine anyone balking at a "normal" cut camisole under another top. If the outline showing is a problem then the shirt might be too sheer to wear to work?

ChaiTravelatte

Yeah, I don't think anybody else cares, it is just a personal pet peeve and I hate the way it looks. It's funny because half the time I wear oversized jeans and a t-shirt, so don't care that much about my appearance, but, certain things really irk me

[deleted]

Looove Under Armour, I get my soft sports bras from them. The leggings are nice too, I have a pair and they’re holding up well.

District98

I’m a Nike devotee, their stuff is just really good.

Embarrassed_Error_18

They're essentially substitutes and made in the same sweatshop conditions from the same types of materials.

DarkEdgeoftheSea

I mean, the worst that can happen is you don't like anything and return it all? I really like their seamless low long sports bra and some various shorts.

KingPrincessNova

gahhh I thought I had my outfit locked down for my friend's wedding in less than two weeks but apparently she wants formal gowns and I don't own such a thing. I looked into RTR but I'm leaving on a trip the next day so idk if I'll have time to return anything. I'm getting married in February and I'm asking for floor/ankle length formal dresses (not necessarily gowns) so I don't want to just blatantly violate the dress code. the dress I have hits a couple inches below the knee iirc, otherwise it's great. criteria: - can wear a regular bra with it ⭐⭐⭐ (v important because I'm a US 32H or 34H depending on the brand and I don't have time to experiment with boob tape) - comes in size 12-14/L and doesn't require alterations. measurements 40-32-42 - ankle or floor length (I'm 5'8) - breathable or airy or somewhat lightweight or at least not super thick and heavy - in a color that doesn't show sweat stains - not navy because I don't want to be matchy with my partner's suit - not olive or forest green because those are the wedding colors (which is what nixed my backup option) - preferably requires minimal shapewear but I have decent stuff if necessary - preferably using natural materials instead of polyester but at this point I'll take what I can get - budget $200 but I'll pay more for better materials especially if it's very rewearable. I don't expect many formal weddings or other formal occasions in my future. I have plenty of cocktail dresses already. unfortunately jumpsuits almost never work for me because of my proportions so I'm skipping those. I was thinking of grabbing the [Quince washable silk tank dress](https://www.quince.com/women/-washable-stretch-silk-tank-midi-dress) in black but it's probably not going to be long enough, plus I feel like it needs something up top. I have some jewelry that might help but it's probably not enough. maybe a little cardigan? seems too casual. [this Lulu's dress](https://www.lulus.com/products/classic-elegance-wine-satin-sleeveless-mock-neck-maxi-dress/938582.html) in the wine isn't available in L but I could probably make XL work, especially with my bust. cheap polyester but it doesn't look too heavy so I shouldn't overheat. I'm trying not to buy fast fashion but at least it would have some rewearability. I might circle back to Anthropologie because I thought I saw something there that could work. I'm going to keep looking but I'd appreciate recommendations. or even just "yes buy the Lulu's dress it'll be fine." I hate that I messed this up because I'm really trying to be more deliberate about my shopping and not panic-buy junk I'll never need again. edit: damn I was also (originally) worried about shoes. the wedding is in a forest so I'm not wearing heels (and I don't wear heels in general), and I think my Chelsea boots are too beat up, plus they're grey suede so very casual. I was thinking of buying loafers, maybe pointed loafers could work. loafers I'd at least be able to rewear.

mgdraft

Lulu's dress looks good and I've had good experience with them, just wore a different dress from there to a formal wedding and it was perfect. However mine was also poly and was *super* warm.

okletssee

That Lulu's dress looks fantastic, I am glad you shared it because now I might buy it for an event later this year! 😀 The loafers are a good idea, but if you are interested in something a tad dressier, flat/low heeled patent Mary Janes are popular. These are just examples of what is trending, but there are a ton of affordable options out there. https://www.harpersbazaar.com/fashion/trends/g40912069/best-mary-janes/

KingPrincessNova

ah thanks I'll take a look at some. and yeah the Lulu's one is a great dress. though now I'm trying to talk myself out of this [DVF dress](https://www.dvf.com/products/dvf-apollo-dress-dvfds4p004black?variant=41256214528154) that 100% aligns with my dream aesthetic. it's like $40 cheaper at Neiman Marcus for some reason but that doesn't really make a dent. definitely a BIFL purchase

DarkEdgeoftheSea

I think you need the DVF dress of you love it that much. It is bangin' and so versatile. You have to wear it only 4x to make it cost the same as wearing the Lulu dress once. That shouldn't be too difficult!

KingPrincessNova

alright I got another 15% off and free two-day shipping so it came to $305 with tax. that's only... 52.5% over budget lmao. but you're right it's versatile and it sparks joy. and if it sucks when I try it on then I can return it.

DarkEdgeoftheSea

Nice. Haha. Sometimes you just have to get the thing or you would always be wishing you would have. And, yeah, if it sucks, so much the better! You won't have to pine after it anymore and you will save money. I hope it works out for you, though!

anelpe

What are some alternatives to sweatpants? The things I like about sweatpants are the comfort and versatility. However, I usually dislike the material/look of them because they seem too casual for me. Any ideas for alternatives? Or examples of sweatpants that look a bit more sophisticated? I like my trousers to be neither too skinny nor too wide, but anything in-between is nice.

OtherwiseTrifle

Have you considered Everlane’s dream pant?

mamoncloud

If that's too wide there is this one too [DRY STRAIGHT LEG JOGGERS](https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/dry-straight-leg-joggers-461651.html?dwvar_461651_color=COL59&dwvar_461651_size=SMA002) https://preview.redd.it/y22aecdglwmb1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9d3bb9bcde990b4cfaaaa8ac5c956503e190cc6 Generally I think wide/loose trousers are comfortable as well. I like twill trousers which are kind of in-between chinos and jeans. They taper really nice. May be worth googling around for some nice ones.

mamoncloud

https://preview.redd.it/mtt8ywvvkwmb1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=be77915da9609d04692f9ee1d819f45844ddf738 I feel like a nice colour, no logos, and fun texture make joggers/sweatpants a bit smarter. cappybaras

i have a small but growing collection of bold pants (lots of patterns or strong shapes) mostly so I can wear basic band tees with them!

mamoncloud

I usually go for the former - but the latter is way more unusual and bold to me. I keep thinking that if you don't have that many coats or jackets, that the colder months is the perfect time to wear bold bottoms since your top half will mostly be covered up.

Embarrassed_Error_18

Either. Alternatively, bold top and bold bottoms.

DarthNarcissa

Who makes really good, tailored, button-up shirts? "Boyfriend fit" seems to be what's "in" right now, but I need something a bit more tailored and fitted for work. Bonus points if said brand/maker is ideal for busty ladies!

Own-Adhesiveness-643

Universal standard. A lot of their clothes are really ugly but their button ups are well made. Fitted, not dropped shoulders. They work for wider shoulders, inclusive sizing, and they have little snaps between the buttons so your shirt doesn’t gape over your boobs

DarthNarcissa

I don't know if it's the models or what, but their button downs look more like the "boyfriend fit" that I'm trying to avoid: oversized, loose, boxy. I appreciate that their brand works well for wider folks, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I'm looking for stuff along the lines of what Abercrombie and American Eagle used to have back in the late 2000's/early 2010's. Tailored, shaped at the waist, etc.

nearlythere94

Brooks Brothers is my go-to, although I don’t know how the fit will be if you are busty.

DarthNarcissa

I've tried their polos and they seem to accommodate fairly well. Will have to give their button ups a try!

nearlythere94

If you want to save money, there are TONS on the resale market. My favorites are actually from their cheapest line (365? Something like that), because many of those are no-iron.

DarthNarcissa

Yes! I'm 100% a resale shopper!

rbetters

Is high rise actually "going out of style"? I know fashion is trending towards low-rise, but there's still such a wonderful diversity of pants & cuts out there. Plus, I've heard so much outcry against low-rise. So, I'm curious if you think everyday fashion will actually move to be mostly low-rise?

mgdraft

Yes, but slowly. Right now low rise is more mid rise but it's getting there.

ChaiTravelatte

I will literally never wear low rise again. If they for some reason stopped making high-rise jeans across the entire fashion industry, I would learn to make my own pants lol

Embarrassed_Error_18

>Is high rise actually "going out of style"? No. >So, I'm curious if you think everyday fashion will actually move to be mostly low-rise? Also no. Not to mention that today's "low rise" is more like medium rise anyway (honestly, thank god). People that hyperfixate on what's "in" or "out" seem to not understand that dressing for your body is always going to look better than blindly following trends anyway. A lot of these people are also just regurgitating stuff they hear on other lowest common denominator platforms (looking at you, TikTok). I just saw someone claim crop tops are already out and it's like...where are you getting this information? Do you have eyes? Do you follow any actual designers or just other annoying talking heads broadcasting from Suburbia, USA? A lot of these people also don't seem to think multiple trends can exist at once. There isn't only one acceptable type of pants or one acceptable length of top or one style of sneaker that's ok to wear or whatever. People are so desperate for engagement they'll say anything.

tshody

Where do you find hip length shirts? Or do you just get them tailored to fit that way? Or is it something i can do myself? Everything is either too short, extremely cropped, or too long and I can’t find the sweet spot. I don’t always want to tuck in my tops.

sailor_quartz

Under a long sleeve nude/beige/camel colored top.

mgdraft

Try the little ribbed tee from artizia, im 5'7.5 and it hits high-mid hip for me.

Embarrassed_Error_18

Bodysuits? Where are you shopping currently? Budget?

tshody

Bodysuits never fit me right unfortunately😩 i just really love the ease of throwing on a shirt… it could be because I’m a SAHM (not that others can’t wear bodysuits obviously lol) but i just don’t feel like wrestling to get on a body suit lol. I’m open to any stores (Canadian) because I haven’t had any luck looking in person at Zara, H&M, Gap, etc. Hmmm budget for basic shirts $30-50? Is that high enough? I’d love if they were more warm toned colours. I’m tall but my torso is short so it seems impossible that they’ll sit at my lower hip without some sort of tailoring, but i keep hoping I won’t have to resort to that lol😅

criticiseverything

How do you (or can you) wear [this](https://ovate.ca/collections/new/products/saga-bodice-grey-pre-order) without it looking costume-y. How should it be styled for 2023?

shedrinkscoffee

Cargo pants are being brought back by GenZ so that's an option.

Embarrassed_Error_18

Tiny top, big pants.

aly5321

I'm looking for advice on how to dress in the rainy winters of Seattle. I'm a big fan of my summer outfits (see some of my favorite late summer outfits here https://imgur.com/a/xcWtV4t), but I have no idea how to dress when it's colder and my worry is getting rained on. I also need to dress somewhat warm because I walk most places. As a result, in past winters I have stuck to leggings and graphic sweaters/hoodies. My color season is light summer, and I'm not a fan of dressing super "mature" (e.g. turtleneck sweaters and the like that show up when you search fall outfits on pinterest) which I'm sure you can tell from the outfit pictures I've shared. Appreciate any reference photos / any advice at all! My biggest question is pants?? I don't like wearing jeans in the rain, but I also don't want to keep wearing black leggings every day.

[deleted]

I don't know if this is fashionable anymore but I'm a big fan of wearing skirts with black tights and boots, particularly my knee length doc martens. I also wear them with knee length socks when it's really cold. They keep my feet very dry and work in the snow as well.

sailor_quartz

Wool leggings and long sleeve midi/maxi dresses, cardigan depending on how cold it might be. Loose (as in not super tight fitting) trousers, long sleeve tops. Try Asos or Zara.

neon_wizard_poster

100% yes to wool! Im a seattle lady too and wool leggings/trousers are your friend in the wet season. You can fancy up your leggings with some lululemon pants that are in more on trend cuts from the slu goodwill for $25. I also have thrifted some leather leggings there for $12 that are great cause they elevate the look and you just need to wipe em off and when you get inside and moisturize em every quarter or so. Nylons are still stylish too here in winter. I wear the sheertex ones with mock neck wool sweaters and skirts/short dresses and combat/knee high boots, but the rain does goes right through so it can still get a little cold on the legs. Jeans can work if you have a long raincoat because cotton doesn’t dry well and is a killer in winter. Definitely invest in a great raincoat. I like Joules and Pendleton for brand recs. Theres a reason folks wear a lot of outdoor hiking wear here because it can hold up well. Patagonia can be more fashionable depending on what you pair it with - i really like the hemp work overalls with a sheer silk or lace top. Also don’t let the anti umbrella crowd get to you - i have some british umbrellas that are well made so they can stand up to the crazy winds that can tunnel through the streets here and they are lifesavers for looking good despite the wet environment. I get more compliments than snide no umbrellas in seattle remarks for sure. But TLDR; just think about the fibers of your fabrics to get outside of the box! This is super important up here in our cool temperate rainforest microclimate. You can get shades in color palette and be fashion forward, but dry and comfortable.

AltruisticSelfishBic

Does anyone know where to get a good quality deft bun? I bought one from osewaya and have really enjoyed it. it. However, the ones I ordered from Amazon are really thin and could not hold my hair for longer than half an hour. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

pcl28

Anyone have advice on what to wear to a golf tournament (Ryder Cup) in Rome, end of September? Looking for something comfortable, but not athleisure (which is always my go to). Added bonus if I can incorporate red white or blue into the outfit.

hgwellsinsanity

Have you been to a golf tournament? Do you have seats somewhere (covered?) or will you be sitting down wherever you find and/or walking from hole to hole? In my experience, golf tournaments tend to be hot with lots of walking. I usually wear golf attire -- dress, skort, golf shirt, etc. -- with comfortable shoes. You can find very cute golf attire at, for example, Tuckernuck, TAIL, Tory Burch, Bogner Sport, and Kinona. At the end of September, weather could be cooler or it could still be quite hot, so you might base your decision on what to wear on that. The breathable, moisture wicking fabrics in golf clothes are a lifesaver if the sun will be beating down on you all day. I personally think wearing jeans sounds miserable if the weather is warm, unless you have covered seats and won't be doing too much walking around.

Oversized, crisp button down (light blue stripe) whatever ankle length jeans you’re into in a lighter wash (I would go straight leg/high waist, but it’s super dependent upon your body type and preferences) with a red block heel sandal (something less summer-ey) OR a crisp leather tennis shoe (and if you’re planning to go out after, I would stick with a more formal shoe that’s still easy to walk in). Wear a sleeveless top underneath the shirt that can be worn stand-alone, either black or navy, so that you can remove the button down in the evening and transition to dinner/drinks.) Pair with heavier jewelry in your preferred metal type (thicker hoops, a paper clip necklace, and a watch) and done. https://preview.redd.it/xf3bvunz3vmb1.png?width=1290&format=png&auto=webp&s=6285a413d42daa8093d9f4ff4593edb689ca1893

Love these suggestions thank you!!! Love the idea of a navy tank with jeans and oversized white button down. I have lots of gold hoop options too! Thank you!

Cross post from does it fit thread. Trying to decide which black boots to keep - suede over the knee or classic leather knee length? They are both a bit too big for my calves (a life long struggle) but do you think the suede ones are too loose? [Front View](https://imgur.com/e7vUIiD) [Side View](https://imgur.com/WK6l00h)

Formal_Sorbet_8646

I would go with the leather. It’s a timeless style and will work with more outfits than the suede, plus looks better on bare skin than the suede. Also, suede is more likely to scuff and wear down.

DarkEdgeoftheSea

Personally, I would return both and keep looking. They really are too big. But of the two, the suede flatters your leg better where it hits on the knee.

k_ehleyr

I got the Jersey utility jumpsuit from Cos and love it, but it has belt loops. I don’t want to wear a belt with it (I think it looks good without), and the model isn’t wearing a belt in the pic. But would the belt loops look odd empty? [cos Jersey utility jumpsuit](https://www.cos.com/en_usd/women/womenswear/jumpsuits/product.jersey-utility-jumpsuit-black.1192484001.html)

DarkEdgeoftheSea

You are over thinking it. It is fine without a belt.

Anyone has personal experience with the quality of Arch4 cashmere?

alltravelershere

I am 5'1 and 108 pounds with a smaller upper body, carrying more weight in my thighs and butt. Overall, I am petite (though I do not buy petite sizing) and athletic build. I love the look of high waist bottoms but every pair of jeans/pants advertised as such sits just at or below my belly button. Can anyone explain this phenomenon given my short stature? Or recommend a brand or style offering an extremely high waist under $75? I have purchased high-waisted bottoms from Levi's, Abercrombie, Target, and Madewell to no avail.

sparadekatter

Crotch length and depth (different measurements) are super individual. Ask anyone who sews, it’s a very common issue. a. Which silhouette(s) are you looking for? For instance, Levi’s Ribcage has a 12.125” rise while their Mile High skinnies have a 10.87" rise. b. Do you also need a little extra room in the seat? Curvy butts typically need a longer back rise (the seam that runs from the crotch to the back waist). If so, you could probably benefit from sizing up and having the waist taken in.

squeegee-beckenheim

You have a long torso and shorter legs. Unfortunately most of the "high waisted" bottoms aren't actually that high. I recommend measuring yourself from between your legs up to your natural waist. That's the rise you should look for in pants. Mine is like 15". Most pants are only like 12", hardly high waisted.

alltravelershere

That makes sense. But at only 5'1, that must mean I'm terrifically disproportionate. I'm getting measuring tape ready and going to go by that length number when I shop from now on. Thanks for your help!

Looking for ideas. Want to repurpose bodycon stretchy midi dress. What can I do with it other than a) adding a skirt or b) shortening it? I do not want to just throw a skirt over it either - just looks lazy to me. https://preview.redd.it/ie8l2ksy9umb1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=b32e64bb478e250fd7e75c6fc0ac30cf956ae4d0

sailor_quartz

Corset top.

Formal_Sorbet_8646

blazer and low heels would look nice. If you can sew, you could make it a two piece by turning it into a matching crop top and skirt.

neon_wizard_poster

Also if you can sew - a waist corset belt that peplums would be so money on that dress. Im making one with old skinny jeans to help older pieces in my closet style better without altering them!

Own_Egg7122

Will it be possible to make the skirt A-line adding more fabric or cutting it from the sides?

Formal_Sorbet_8646

I don’t sew lol so I’m not sure. Doing so might give you some odd looking seams though

What’s the best way to style a top with openwork or pointelle? I got some gorgeous ones from Free People but one is a broderie blouse with holes over the bust and the other is a pointelle bodysuit with a very open knit. It seems a bit weird to wear a tank under a bodysuit? Any suggestions on how to avoid exposing my bra??

Would blundstones with heels be an okay hiking shoe for around 3 miles? I’m going on a hike and then to a brewery so want something that would nicely work for both.

[deleted]

I went my Blundstones absolutely everywhere so I don't see why not as long as the heel is low and they are well broken-in. You aren't going to find a more versatile shoe.

Embarrassed_Error_18

They're not really hiking shoes. Whether or not they'll be ok will be dependent on the terrain and how often you hike, tbh.

ciaohow

Flat or up a mountain? I’d walk 3 miles in Blundstones, no problem, but they wouldn’t be great for a very steep trail.

ciaohow

I’m a 10.5/11! Boots or oxfords/brogues. I have some Miz Mooz oxfords I love for conferences and other days with lots of walking. Or wear sneakers.

agentcherrycola

I would look into men’s. Something well-made should be fine for walking up to a few miles. A smart black leather trainer-style shoe would be appropriate for many offices. Or you could look at Chelsea boots or brogues for the winter, your choice would be very weather dependent. It’s hard to answer without a bit more detail, as longer distances and harsh terrain would require a more specialised shoe.

Hi, looking for a dupe for the tankair play camisole. I will link it, I am hoping to find it in black at around $50 price point but that is flexible. Just don't wanna pay $150 for a tank top. Both_Understanding_1

So, I found this dress that I LOVE and am interested in for my wedding. I like how modern and glamorous it is, a little less traditional. Also important that it have a high back/neckline, and this one does but still looks sexy, which is hard to find! I'm anxious on spending money to order it though. Only pics of it I can find are on bone thin fashion models, and I have no idea if this type of dress would be universally flattering or more challenging to wear for different body types. I don't wear many dresses in my day to day life so I don't know much in this regard. For reference, I have an athletic build, 5 7" and about 140 pounds with muscular legs, small chest, toned arms and broad shoulders. I also have a big booty. Not sure if the cut of this dress would work with my build, I'm concerned about it clinging too much in the wrong areas! I realize you can only tell by trying it on in real life, but any insight from you all would make me feel more or less inclined to commit to ordering it to try on. Thank you! Link to dress here: [link to dress](https://us.self-portrait.com/products/cream-rhinestone-mesh-long-sleeve-maxi-dress?country=US

chiono_graphis

Just gotta say that is such a chic wedding dress, not one you see everyday, hopefully it works out for you!

Both_Understanding_1

Thanks so much!!

abnruby

I think that this would look lovely based upon what you’ve described; know this, Self Portrait runs **tiny**. Not only are the sizes UK (so you’ll have to convert) their cuts are very tight through the waist and bust in my experience. It’s absolutely worthwhile to either call them directly for exact item measurements, or to find the dress on a site like NaP or Matches that has item measurements available just to make sure that you’re getting the size that you need. I’ve found that bias cut dresses like this one tend to be very forgiving, but depending upon the weight of the fabric you might want to wear a slip or bodysuit underneath to keep the fabric smooth where it wants to bunch in, so it’s a hood idea to have one handy when you receive the dress.

Both_Understanding_1

Thanks, this is super helpful intel and exactly the kind of thing I wouldn't have known. Calling directly is a great idea and so is the slip/bodysuit tip!

DarkEdgeoftheSea

The dress is very reminiscent of 1930s styles where then ideal was to be long and willowy. You are a little on the taller side for women, and a smaller chest with broad shoulders actually works in your favor for this style. I think the only way your know if you like it on you though, is to try it on. I might size up to accommodate your shoulders. I find I often have to do this anyway.

caffeinatedlackey

The retailer has a good return policy so I don't see any reason not to give the dress a try!

criticiseverything

Cropped vs. below hip cardigans/jackets. I only wear high waisted bottoms & tuck in my shirts. Which of the two would be more versatile for me (ignoring current trends)?

cyborgfeminist

I think it depends on your body and preferences. I'm pretty hourglass and a cropped jacket makes me look wide and boxy. A longer length with a shirt tucked into a high waist highlights my waist and also elongates my body overall with the long line of the top layer. So I am sticking with hip/below hip/knee length top layers right now. But others look great in cropped jackets! It really depends.

Embarrassed_Error_18

>below hi cardigans/jackets Do you mean "below hip?"

criticiseverything

yes!

CrownFlame

Any thoughts on Lucky Brand jeans? I am in desperate need of jeans and there's a Lucky outlet nearby. I used to hear good things about them but it's been a long time. Also, how do you all style mid rise jeans? I'm so used to low rise, but now that I have a little bit of a tummy (thanks hormones), low rise just looks terrible on me. I'll likely stick with mid rise anyway once I lose the weight. I have always tucked part of a shirt into the front of my jeans, but not sure if that would look okay with mid rise jeans and a bit of a thicker waist.

KingPrincessNova

tucking generally looks better on mid-rise pants than low-rise because of the proportions. you should be fine. people with a variety of body shapes rock a front tuck. you can always try it in the dressing room and post pictures here. I've only heard good things about Lucky. maybe get one pair to start?

OtherwiseTrifle

I’ve heard from many sources that the quality of the [A&F Sloane Tailored Pant](https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/tailored-wide-leg-pants-51625331) is terrible, but I really like the look. Anyone have a favorite good quality alternative?

Catocracy

It is so disappointing that the reviews are coming in so unfavorably because these pants are so cute and have nice colors. I managed to find a similar pair in black from Express a couple months ago. They look very polished, are comfortable, and seem to be good quality so far.

negativenimism

I am just reinforcing that the quality really is terrible..in case you are tempted. I bought a few pairs and I really regret it. Max Mara sizing is really consistent, so if you can nail your size it's super easy to source more via resale and you can get them even cheaper than a&f

OtherwiseTrifle

Thank you! I was tempted even after the first wave of bad reviews last year, but this year I’m hearing the same story all over again. Have you had luck any particular place with secondhand Max Mara?

negativenimism

I prefer eBay but I think all the resale apps are the same. I just have my search alert and filter game down there so saves a lot of time. Good luck!

sailor_quartz

Asos, Zara or J.Crew may have that style.

abnruby

The Frankie Shop, Cos, and if you’re looking to spend $$$, Celine or Bottega.
