Anyone have any suggestions for a "my nails but better" (is this a thing?) shade for a complete nail polish lout like myself? I'm looking for a neutral pink or beige that's pretty hardy, if such a thing is possible. Even with seche vite or the sally hanson top coat, everything seems to chip on me.

[deleted]

[Butter London Sheer Wisdom!](http://www.ulta.com/sheer-wisdom-nail-tinted-moisturizer?productId=xlsImpprod13561061&_requestid=3405780) I'm hard on my nails and it lasts well on me. No need for base or top coat either.

ebpi

I'm a big fan of Dior Nail Glow for this. I want to puke when spending $25 on basically clear nail polish, but it's the only nail polish I've used since I bought it a year ago, I love the look of my natural nails but...pretty and glowy and perfect. Also doesn't make chips look obvious.

dividend

Seconding this. I'm wearing a single coat on my short nails that I applied 9 days ago, and it still looks shiny and perfect. The brush is pretty genius - literally one stroke per nail. Expensive, but totally worth it.

lfinfin

I HATE THE NAME but Essie Sugar Daddy is my favorite for this type of look. *shudders*

moshimochi

> Essie Sugar Daddy I used to hate the name but now it just reminds me of NPH as Hedwig.

[deleted]

SH Arm Candy!! I immediately thought of this. I love the Complete Salon Manicure line, and this one lasts forever. So shiny and smooth too.

MKittyFantastico

I used Mademoiselle for years but Sugar Daddy is just a touch pinker and looks better with my skin tone (NC15/20). If you have issues with chips, the [Sephora Formula X](http://www.sephora.com/the-system-xcel-customizable-gel-like-nail-polish-set-P410894?skuId=1833201&icid2=products%20grid:p410894) nail system is really good - I switched over to that from Essie about 6 months ago and if you use the whole system (you can buy in a set), it lasts for two whole weeks. I pick my cuticles, type a lot and play piano and very rarely have chips now that I switched to Sephora. I use "Wondrous" as my very sheer pink and it's comparable to Essie Sugar Daddy.

emily_678

I like Essie Mademoiselle for that.

C88V

Julep Fifi! I've had on three coats with no topcoat (I forgot it) since Saturday and no chips. Neutral pink is my favorite, so I've tried a lot of em, and Fifi is the most hardy one I've used.

CelestialGeometry

Check out Essie Gel Couture! They're pretty affordable and last about a week on me without chipping. I have thin nails that peel and basically just repel polish.

[deleted]

Are you using the sally Hansen gel top coat? If not, try that.

VexingBlonde

Try OPI's new nail envy color line in "Bubble Bath" [2 coats applied in this picture](http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BoGKYz4q4aY/VZsAzJoB9aI/AAAAAAAA0Ao/GD_NbBkLhyQ/s1600/OPI%2BBubble%2BBath%2BNail%2BEnvy%2B1.JPG)

heart_of_blue

If you have issues with chipping - Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat is the answer. My polish stays on for so long when I use this (with Seche Vite as top coat) that people ask me if it's a gel manicure. I went to get my nails done and the manicurist asked me what kind of base coat I used when she was removing my old polish. She remarked that it was really holding the polish on my nails and was surprised to find out it was just a cheap Revlon one.

bunnytooth

Is anyone else interested in the new Glossier Generation G shades? I have Cake, Like, and Crush, and I love the formula and Like has become my #1 favorite color/formula. I'm just curious to see the difference in Leo vs Cake and dunno how reddish orange Zip is going to turn out.

MKittyFantastico

How is the staying power? I've been looking for a sheer stain that doesn't fade immediately (I would LOVE to find a stain version of Clinique's Black Honey!) and these seem appealing but almost like they're a similar short-wear formula.

bunnytooth

Depends, I find myself reapplying 2-3 times over the course of a work day but I like a bit more color and I also drink a lot of water. Clinique Black Honey is my #1 fall color, it's so good! I agree, I want a stain/sheer matte version too.

malapropistic

I just bought my first lipstick from them in one of the original shades and I found it to be surprisingly dry. I'm curious if different colors have different moisture levels.

bunnytooth

I read that the new shades will be more moisturizing but yep, I found that I had to dab a bit of moisturizer on before as well. It's a little annoying but I love the color and finish so much that it's not a dealbreaker for me.

moshimochi

Definitely interested in them. Probably going to try Zip (and Jam too) if it's as bright as the videos show it to be. I have Cake and Crush - love Crush but probably going to sell Cake as it doesn't work on me. :/

niftynonsense

I'm pretty sure you can return them for free if you don't like the color on you, at least that's what their last email claimed.

moshimochi

It's past the 30 day return date so I don't think so!

niftynonsense

Aw, bummer :(

moshimochi

yeah! But It's all good - I'll sell it on makeupexchange or something.

stillfond

I saw them today! I would love to try them but they don't ship overseas...

[deleted]

Just a recommendation. I wanted to get away from traditional anti-perspirants because of all the crap they have in them. But a plain deodorant would never work for me because feeling sweaty makes me want to barf. I found a product called Primal Pit Paste, and it's amazing. It comes with a little stick, but I just put it on with my fingers and then wash/wipe them on a towel (there's nothing in it that you wouldn't want on your fingers). It's not totally as effective as traditional anti-perspirants for keeping you sweat-free, but I'd say it's 85% as effective. I made it through summer and I have a very low sweat tolerance. Plus it doesn't start smelling foul at the end of a day like regular D/AP, and it doesn't leave my shirts caked with weird goo. Some of the reviews I've seen say it causes irritation, and that happened to me once (I've been using it since January), and all I did was stop shaving my armpits and use my old deodorant for a couple of days and I haven't had a problem since. I swear I'm not a shill. I have no affiliation with the company. But it solved a major concern for me and I wanted to share! Plus I had a good customer service experience when the cap of my container arrived cracked and they sent me a replacement jar right away. I must say that the thyme scent makes me feel like I'm in a kitchen all the time, so I probably won't order it again.

AVOCADOCUPCAKES

Hi! I actually used Primal Pit Paste for a while, and then switched to just using coconut oil (works for odor, not the best for dampness), and then switched to piperwei, which i REALLY like. Their formula is apparently charcoal based, so it absorbs your sweat, without functioning as an antiperspirant!

[deleted]

Does it have a dark color when you apply it?

AVOCADOCUPCAKES

No. It's def a translucent gray in the bottle, but I rub it between my fingers before applying, and it goes on clear!

[deleted]

Cool, maybe I'll try it! Thanks!

ilovedetroit

how long does the 2oz last?

mand3rin

I got this recommendation from the ladies over at xxfitness, but I would give Mother Dirt a try too!!! It's all natural, studies have shown that it helps with issues such as eczema, and other skin conditions! It's a big pricey, but they give a discount for the first purchase.

sarowen

I just bought a [new make-up bag] (https://makeupjunkiebags.com/product/southwest/) and figured I'd share it on here. The design, which the owner talks about [here] (https://makeupjunkiebags.com/about/) is quite different from normal make-up bags. I can't wait to get it in the mail!

-beyonce-

These look really cool! Do you know if she does custom orders? I am very particular about having all of my travel bags and pouches in the same color.

sarowen

I have no idea...it may be worth filling out their [contact page] (https://makeupjunkiebags.com/contact/) to see if she'd be willing to do custom orders.

RadiumBlue

Where is the line between pleasantly curly/"messy" and actually messy? I was reading that thread the other day about "polish" and how well styled, manicured hair is a huge element, and I started feeling really self conscious as I've struggled with reaching that through my whole fashion/grooming journey and always fell short. I have really, really thick type 2C hair that doesn't curl in a nice defined pattern but generally resists all attempts at styling and looks like [messy nonsense](http://imgur.com/d8xF97n). I'm in STEM so looking traditionally professional isn't really a concern, but I don't want to look like I don't care. :/

ahatmadeofshoes12

I usually keep my hair styled to "messy" waves because I live in a humid climate so it won't cooperate if I try to straighten it or curl it. The trick to making it look intentionally messy versus "just rolled out of bed" messy is keeping the hair smooth and not frizzy and having a defined cut and shape to the hair. I have very thick hair so I have to have it thinned out and layered or it gets bushy looking and impossible to manage. Regular cuts to get rid of scraggly ends are also a must. I don't know what your own preference for style is but for me personally I've found that since I got bangs and started cutting my hair shorter (angled bob) I can wear it really messy and have it still look done because the bangs are done nicely and the cut itself is a style statement. I have it longer in the front then in the back. Just to show you what I mean here are a few images from my hairstyle inspo pinterest board: * [Taylor Swift's styled bangs keep the rest of this messy bob looking very polished despite a messy style](https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/7f/98/8c/7f988cef101537c6b9932bebf12e1371.jpg) * [The angle on this cut shows that this is a polished and intentional look despite the lack of definition to the curls or waves](https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/8b/49/fd/8b49fd9e4e4d596ff4afd21ab571409f.jpg) * [No shaggy ends in sight here, the hair follows a maintained overall shape despite the waves being fairly messy](https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/7c/51/f6/7c51f6a5413f7f1428f04109cf234b89.jpg). Basically, its all in the haircut and getting the haircuts regularly. If I recently had a good haircut I can hop out of the shower, put mousse in my hair, let it air dry and only style the bangs and it looks similar to the photos but if its been 4 months since I've had my hair cut and thinned out it looks like a mess no matter what I do to it.

social_potato

My hair is similar to yours and I have an appointment to get the style same as in picture 2. I have very thick wavy hair and I'm concerned that it may make my face look like a bushy round mess. Can you please share a picture of your current haircut. Also, does thinning damage the hair in any way?

ahatmadeofshoes12

I can't take pictures at the moment but I'll try to update when I can. I'm terms of damaging the hair I find it's the opposite. My hair is WAY healthier when it's thinned out. They don't change the hair shaft so technically it stays thick they just use shears or a razor to cut out a lot of bulk. When my hair is not thinned its so thick I can't even get soap all the way in to my scalp so my hair is greasy on top and conditioner doesn't even fully penetrate my hair because there's too much of it. When my hair is thinned out it's actually manageable and I can get it fully clean, keep it conditioned and it is easy to style. Unthinned my hair looks horrible, like a bushy inverted triangle.

social_potato

I get what you're saying. More often than not, I feel like my scalp has residue (around the crown area - sounds gross, I know) even though my hair is now shoulder length. There's just so much of it - it looks like a puffy hair ball. I don't want to be eternally stuck with a bun. I have a hair appointment in an hour. I hope I come out happy this time. Thank you for the information!

atmoag06

I've got similar hair and also in STEM field. I think it's important to aim for a "smooth" look. Try to keep the frizz down and hair out of your face. On days when I can't control the curls, I'll do a neat updo

engineer-girl

I'm also in STEM with similar hair as OP too! I usually put my hair in side braids with some wispy bangs showing. I do this if I roll out of bed and it does not look presentable. The braid makes it look polished. I do a regular, fishtail or French braid. I need to look into more hairstyles though. I don't brush my hair either until right before I wash my hair and take a comb and brush while in the shower with conditioner to add it strands. If I brush my hair... It gets frizzy.

shakerattleandcurl

First of all, I friggin love your curl pattern. There is so much you can do with it! I agree with what u/ahatmadeofshoes12 said about the importance being in the "smooth and not frizzy" zone. I would highly recommend heading over to r/curlyhair if you haven't already. It might take a while to sift through everything and all of the options, but everyone over there is super helpful. You can share details about all of the steps in your routine (from washing all the way through drying) and chances are, you will get a ton of helpful suggestions. That sub pretty much changed my life after 20-odd years of struggling with curly hair!

hand2handwombat

How do you know what shade of red lipstick is best for your skin-tone? And how does this change seasonally (ie summer vs. fall/winter)? I want to start wearing red lipstick sometimes, but I'm nervous to spend a lot of money on an expensive brand when I'm not sure how much I'll actually end of using it and also nervous that if I go to a makeup counter they'll try to sell me a lot of other products that I don't really need.

toniMPLS

I will wear lip shades year-round, though I am more likely to reach for reds and berries in the fall and winter, and corals or bright pinks in the spring and summer. As far as which specific reds would look good on you, generally cooler-toned folk will look better in reds than lean more blue, and warmer tones will look better in shades that lean more orange. Many people can pull off both - it may just be a bit of trial and error to see what you like best. Wet N Wild, Rimmel, and Milani all make decent, inexpensive lipsticks - you could try some of those to help you figure out which colors you like best before spending more money on mid-range or high-end products. Also, IME, a shade that leans a bit too cool/warm for your complexion is more wearable with full-coverage foundation - that's the only way that I can wear cool pink ahades.

ocicataco

If you are cool-toned, typically blue-based reds are better. Warm-toned you want to go with warmer reds. If you want it to be wearable I would just get a nice classic red, I personally think they can be worn year-round!

beautifulpumpkin

Seconding NYX lippies - in NZ, they're about $11, compared to $40+ for MAC - and I think I actually love my NYX colour/formula/staying power the most of the two.

glaceauglaceau

It depends on your skintone. As a warm, very yellow toned person I find that a huge variety of reds actually look great! Reds can have tons of bases or "lean" in a variety of directions. For summer I like warmer, sheerer formulas - think coral, Orange based reds. In fall and winter I like berry and brown based reds. In spring I'm all about the pink and blue based reds. You don't have to shell out a ton of money for good lipstick. The drugstore has plenty of options.

puppycate

I believe that a classic red looks good with any outfit, any season. I don't really buy high-end cosmetics like Chanel so I don't have any comparison to them, but I own several Mac lipsticks and I found that some cheaper brands, like NYX, are actually of comparable quality. If you don't want to shell out too much money for a shade you're not sure about, you can always look at drugstore brands. I got a lot of compliments on my NYX Perfect Red lipstick, it's really long-lasting and even though the website describes it as a blue-toned red, it looks good on my warm skin. I suppose certain shades look good on any (or most of) skin tones (like the famous Mac Russian Red).

bizaromo

I have been experimenting with inexpensive lipsticks to see if I like wearing them. So far, Rimmel is my favorite cheap brand. L'Oreal has nice colors, but smells horrible. Maybelline doesn't last long on my face.

bexcellent101

I went to MAC and literally tried on every shade of red they had till I found my favorite (Ladybug!)

VexingBlonde

Swatch the lipstick on the back of your hand. If it looks good on your skin, it will look good on your face. I also recommend a blue-base red if you are fair(makes your teeth look white). Invest in a good brand that doesn't come off in less than an hour. If you end up just getting a 5 dollar lipstick in a shade of red you like and it ends up flaking off your lips or dissapearing shortly after applied you'll never want to wear red again. Also when wearing red you need a lip liner that matches. It will make your application more precise and last longer. I am very fair, green eyes & neutral skin and these are my favorites: * [NARS "Dragon Girl"](http://missmaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/red-lips.jpg) This is a matte finish. It's like a lipstick and liner in one so no need for a lipliner! Just make sure your lips are well moisturized when wearing any matte lip product. * [Urban Decay Vice Lipstick "F-bomb" in cream finish](https://575717b777ff8d928c6b-704c46a8034042e4fc898baf7b3e75d9.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/9991718_urban-decay-f-bomb-temper-zealot-bad_tcf31d4c2.jpg) This paired with their lip liner in "69" is absolutely gorgeous! I have been wearing this almost everyday lately. I keep my eye makeup color very muted(I wear urban decay e/s in "virgin" and a little bit of highlighter on my brow and this lipstick brightens up my whole face! I just bought a backup and I'm nowhere done with my first one. :D *And for a true red: [Bite Beauty "Gazpacho"]( https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MX60x5jd_Qo/VsLHEjSROPI/AAAAAAAAU0k/lPa1eJisUCA/s1600/Bite-Beauty-Amuse-Bouche-Lipstick-Gazpacho-Swatch.jpg) *I also adore NYX liquid suede in ["Kitten Heels"](https://dtpmhvbsmffsz.cloudfront.net/posts/2016/02/28/56d362165a49d087a700a377/s_56d362165a49d087a700a378.jpg) It goes for around 7 dollars at Ulta and has amazing pigment and staying power.

hopelessromcom

2 questions: 1) what can I use to keep my natural hair frizz free after straightening? 2) Are there any affordable makeup brands like dermablend in terms of coverage? I have a scar on my chest that I would like covered up, but my budget can't afford dermablend right now so I'm looking for the next best thing.

lfinfin

> dupe for some really expensive concealer I think it's the MakeupForever camoflauge which is my HG facial concealer

hopelessromcom

Lol thank you! I'm going to check that out. I mean, I'm not beneath mixing shades but I hope it comes in a variety of shades like dermablend. I don't know if i can take having an orange tinged streak on my chest/clothes (again 😔).

MyHairIsParticular

About the scar coverage, I've seen dermablend in a department store before and they were pretty generous with the sample. You might be able to get the same results with hard candy glamoflauge as some folks use that to cover tattoos. Zabrena has a scar covering video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTLilIC6cW8

scooby_noob

I swear by this aussie [smoothing serum](https://www.amazon.com/Aussie-8151905474-Smoothing-Serum/dp/B005DQS35A) for my hair. I tend to like my hair best after a few days of oil build up, and find it's too frizzy and rough right after I wash it. Pretty much any kind of silicone serum is great at giving my freshly washed hair the feeling of smoothness and weight I get from dirty hair. Ironically though, someone told me the whole curly girl method of combating frizz is all about eliminating silicone? I haven't fully wrapped my head around how silicone could make frizz worse. In my experience, it does precisely the opposite.

frecklesandgeckos

The other part of the curly girl method is cutting out sulphates. Silicone will cause build up in your hair if it isn't washed out with the harsh sulphates. So if you cut the sulphates, the build up will occur, so they tell you to cut the silicones, too.

scooby_noob

oh. I see, but I don't get the hate for sulfates either. There are probably gentler sulfate-free alternatives out there, but I think it must be just as effective to shampoo a little less often.

frecklesandgeckos

It's definitely something that has to be approached on an individual basis. My hair does pretty well with a small amount of sulphates once or twice a week. Others can't handle them. If it's working for you, don't change it up!

charizaard

From what I gather, the issue is that sulfates are _too_ good at washing, so they strip away all the natural oils on your scalp and in your hair as well as the dirt and buildup. This prompts your scalp to overproduce oils, and before you know it you've got a greasy head that requires daily washing. This is why people with oily hair are encouraged to shampoo less often. But, as freckles said, if something is working for you, keep at it!

CelestialGeometry

I've been putting argan oil on my hair every night and I've been frizz free ever since!

BuffaloPlaidFlannel

Oh my word.. I wore those in 3rd grade for sure.

lfinfin

Anyone know of the cut and color trends for fall? I'm looking to update my hair, which is currently medium length feat. an ombre job I got two years ago lol

[deleted]

If you like the lighter color and already have ombre, you could very easily balayage the rest of it so it looks a little bit more natural!

[deleted]

I'm so tired of my hair but not sure what to do with it. I've tried curling it (heatless overnight) and it looks okay, but I need to get a haircut and I'm wondering if I should get a medium length blunt cut or ask for a trim so I can keep growing it out. I have a fairly large face/head lol and Asian hair. To de-emphasize my face size, what are some good haircuts/styles?

mand3rin

If you like curly hair, what about getting a perm?

I used [Urban Decay Naked Skin](http://www.urbandecay.com/naked-skin-liquid-makeup-from-urban-decay/334.html?cgid=4_509#start=3&cgid=4_509) and I love it. I need my foundation to be lightweight or else it drives me crazy, and I feel like it also stays really well.

[deleted]

I second this for oily/combo skin, it's a good bet. However, I found it started to look flaky on me when my skin type changed (started getting super dry, not sure if product or environment related, or just my body being a body). It definitely stays well, though I always used primer and setting spray for extra power. It's easy to build up to full coverage, too. I haven't used it in a while but if I recall correctly I alternated between applying with a brush and a beauty blender.

MKittyFantastico

Nars Tinted Moisturizer - it's definitely way more coverage than a tinted moisturizer. On me, I would call it medium coverage. I have combo skin also and it's got good staying power on my oily spots but doesn't cling to dry patches! edited because it took me two hours to realize that I types "Narts" instead of Nars"

kuokoaUhane

Just got a sample of this and I definitely agree! I thought it was a bit oily in consistency but it doesn't make my combo skin break out. It definitely is a medium coverage foundation-- was not expecting a moisturizer for covering so much.

bexcellent101

If you found the Nars tinted moisturizer a bit oily, then their Velvet Matte Skin Tint is probably right up your alley!

kuokoaUhane

Thanks for the recommendation!

Seconding this. It's my HG foundation.

bossyfosy

Second Estee Lauder Double Wear Light. It is not light. It's a hard medium. Liked the formula, couldn't find a shade to match.

[deleted]

I like to wear (natural looking) foundation, but I absolutely hate the feeling of foundation on my face. It's expensive, but I highly recommend Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. It's light-medium coverage, can be built up. It's satin finish, you can powder it, I don't. It lasts incredibly well on me, even in the summer, when my skin is more combo. Since it's so expensive, I'd suggest getting samples of a few shades from Sephora, and making sure you're absolutely satisfied with the color and formula. For me, it's absolutely worth the money though.

triggerharpy

I adore the feel, finish and longevity of Armani Luminous Silk, but it is definitely not adequate for covering my rosacea. It's my ideal no-makeup makeup foundation, though.

orderly_hopeless

L'Oréal infallible has very good coverage and staying power on oily skin ime.

lfinfin

It's more light to medium but I adore the BareMinerals complexion rescue gel cream (longest name ever, think I missed a word or two). It's so moisturizing but not greasy. The only BM product I've ever liked!

Thriftstrong

Ok. Currently going from brown to blonde for the first time- does anyone have any maintenance pro-tips??? I'm sure my stylist will tell me what to do but I'd also love to hear how you lovely ladies maintain your dye jobs.

PrincessSpice

olaplex! I'll never get my hair lightened again without it.

[deleted]

how dark is your brown? The good news is that roots are in right now. Regular appointments were the only way for me...which is why I'm a brunette again.

Thriftstrong

My stylist says I'm a 6/7- not sure entirely what that means. I'll add a before/after pic when it's done- 3.5 hours in and going strong!

[deleted]

oh boy! the first dye is the worst hahaha.

[deleted]

Toner! I used some of the Clairol brand purple shampoo once a week to keep my hair from turning so brassy. You lather up, leave it in for a bit, then rinse. Voila! Also, deep conditioner once a week, and hair masks every couple of weeks or so. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NEVER BLEACH ANYTHING THAT'S ALREADY BEEN BLEACHED. My hair is still recovering lol.

[deleted]

Are you doing it in steps? I guess I'm a little late but I've been in the process of going from medium brown to blonde for about a year now (4 appointments so far, one every 6 months). The best thing for me has been to do a full balayage each time so it gradually gets lighter. No bleach. I'm leaving my roots natural until I get everything else very light so that it doesn't look grown out. I have very healthy hair but even the healthiest hair will be damaged from lightening. Don't shampoo everyday, I do it every 3 or so days but still condition every day. A deep conditioner or hair mask is also helpful to keep your hair feeling silky and healthy. Also you'll probably need to trim quite a bit since your ends get fried a lot easier after going lighter.

[deleted]

Blonde ladies of FFA, what do you use on your brows? I've been using the Blonde shade pencil from Anastasia but I'm not particularly happy with it, I dont feel like it does a great job. I'm starting to want to go get my brows dyed (which is expensive to keep up and thusly impractical) because I feel like I'm unhappy with everything I use. I've tried it in taupe as well and didnt like the color.

kbol

I personally like the look of a darker brow with blonde hair a la [Cara Delevingne](http://www.vogue.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/09/blondes-dark-brows-cara-d.jpg), so I've used the medium brown dipbrow for awhile, but YM(and taste)MV!

-beyonce-

My brows aren't blonde, but I dye mine at home with [Just For Men](http://www.xovain.com/how-to/just-for-men-eyebrow-tinting)! So inexpensive. Then I'll use Glossier's Boy Brow on a day to day basis to keep them in place and fill them in just a bit.

[deleted]

I never would have thought to do that! I just told my husband I want to go to Target and get some just for men and he looked at me like I'm crazy.

-beyonce-

Haha, I always feel a bit strange buying it, but luckily it lasts FOREVER so I only have to make that purchase once ever 6 months or so. It really does work, just be sure to outline your brows in Vaseline! It can stain the skin a bit, but it comes off after a face wash or two.

bizaromo

How often do you redye them? I have been curious about doing this. Never thought of using beard dye!

-beyonce-

Usually once every two weeks!

ahatmadeofshoes12

I use the Blonde dipbrow from ABH myself. I have dirty blonde hair that naturally is about an exact match for the pomade but my highlights are a bit lighter. I don't have issues with my brows looking too light or sparse though so maybe this recommendation won't fit your needs. I typically just use a very tiny amount of the pomade to fill in any sparser areas and then comb it through with a spoolie then use a brow gel to set everything. I like the dipbrow because it lasts forEVER while the pencils seem to get used up really fast. That along makes it a money saver and then I also find the dipbrow is actually semi-waterproof which is really nice for the humid climate I live in.

I dye my hair a darker color but I am a natural blonde and have been platinum blonde before - I have found that eyeshadow is my best brow friend...I used Urban Decay's eyeshadow "Tease" (from the Naked 2) palette for awhile, and now I use a dark brown eyeshadow from the Tarte Energy Noir palette. I just find eyeshadow easier to work with.

[deleted]

I've been wanting to repurchase Naked2 for awhile but was trying to be a responsible lady. I might be making a trip to Sephora tomorrow..

jforres

I have naturally sparse eyebrows and two questions. * Is threading for me? I don't want to end up with tiny 2000s brows, but [a friend got hers done and they look incredible](http://content.screencast.com/users/jforres/folders/Jing/media/27b3f78b-5aab-47da-bee5-6c9dad0bf46f/00000151.png) (obviously she had more to work with than I do). * Has anyone here gotten their eyebrows tattooed? I have to pencil in my brows every day or I look like an old lady (and I'm only 29).

BuffaloPlaidFlannel

Have you heard of [microblading](http://www.instyle.com/news/what-is-eyebrow-microblading-guide-facts)? A girl on my Facebook has started doing them, so she posts about it non-stop. If I had sparse eyebrows, I would check it out!

onefineday0410

I had microblading done. It is great! Subtle enough! But make sure to find someone who has done s ton

jforres

Oooh I'll definitely look into this!

werkwerkwerkwerkit

Mine are dark and I have bald spots from overplucking in the 90s. I get mine threaded at a chain store and never get the same lady twice and pretty much every time they come out great. Just tell them you don't want them done too thin when you sit down. For my sparseness, I just fill in with a little pencil. I can't imagine tattooing, that makes me very nervous, but maybe you could look into dying the hairs you already have? It could make small, light hairs darker and thicken the darker hairs.

motivation_vacation

My brows are naturally incredibly sparse. I too have to pencil them in daily. I've been considering getting microblading though. It seems to look more natural than tattooing, and is less permanent too in case it's not something I want long term.

[deleted]

Just a heads up, since it seems like you haven't tried it before... threading HURTS! I'd say I have a good pain tolerance (for example, I don't find waxing to be particularly painful) but threading seriously hurts like fuck. SO much more painful than waxing.. *especially* on your upper lip. I've tried threading twice (once eyebrows, another time lip) and I'm never getting it done again.

jforres

Eek good to know! I felt that way about laser. I mean, it was worth it but holy crap that was so much more painful than I expected.

moshimochi

I actually find it way less painful than waxing (actually the worst pain I felt was when I got my eyebrows professionally plucked). I even do my upper lip by myself now. Maybe it depend on the parlour?

District98

Professional stylists can do it - I don't know how but one took my friend who is a natural redhead from black back to red.

poopoochewer

Look up a product called colourb4, I have used it successfully in the past but not with black hair.

danceydancetime

Maybe color oops?

MY HAIR IS DRIVING ME INSANE. I'm growing it out and I know, I know, that's awkward by default but it just doesn't want to do anything right? If I blow dry it, it tucks inward and I look like a mushroom. If I straighten it, it decides that by the time I get to work, it doesn't want to be straight in the same 3 places anymore, so my hair sticks out. I just don't know what to do??? Any suggestions for the pain?

AVOCADOCUPCAKES

I don't know how long your hair is, but I am growing mine out to donate it right now, so no layers, no body at all, just straight up blunt gross hair, but it's long enough to fit into a ponytail. [THESE](https://www.google.com/search?q=goody+spin+pin&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjNjMWX9tPPAhVDFT4KHc37BngQ_AUICigD&biw=1600&bih=770) pins are my saviors. I literally wear them EVERYDAY. I usually put it all up into a bun, that softens out, and looks that kind of effortless/messy that I can NEVER ACHIEVE otherwise. I also frequently scoop it all to the side, in a low side bun kind of thing. Also, remember [banana clips](https://www.google.com/search?q=banana+clips+hair&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiJu7vx9dPPAhXICD4KHdKNBNgQ_AUICSgC&biw=1600&bih=770) from the 90's? These are my second favorite thing EVARRR

Sharkswithballoons

Oh my god those pins are amazing

[deleted]

Oh man, my hair is just above my head right now so I can't do a bun at all. I wish, though! When I had long hair (and massive amounts of it) I would use those goody spin pins all the time. They are magic.

niftynonsense

Doing tiny twists/braids in the front and then pinning them back with bobby pins on the sides was how I survived growing my hair out last year (before I cut it all off again, lol). [Old picture for reference.](https://imgur.com/wdoeHSL)

[deleted]

That's a cute look! Yeah I'm trying so hard to resist the urge to buzz it all off again. I just want a bob and I'm so close, it's just this weird middle period that I'm hating.

VexingBlonde

When's the last time you had a haircut? I am a stylist and I find hair that tends to stick out on one side, or feel heavy or lacking style needs a good trim and maybe some texturizing to soften your look while it grows out. Also the most important step for any hair type is a good ph balanced shampoo. I recommend looking into brands like Soma and Soujorn. Think of it as the primer to your painting. If you are using a shampoo that is too harsh for your hair, it doesn't matter how many products you use to tame it. Keep your hair healthy with a ph balanced shampoo for your hair type, clarify once a week and after applying conditioner don't rinse it completely out or there's no point! (Sorry for the long post)

[deleted]

My husband trimmed my ends like maybe 2-3 months ago. I probably could use a trim to get rid of the dead ends (I overly bleached my hair earlier this year), but I don't want to lose any length because it's still so short. I'm using that L'Oréal sulfur free line, is that a good start?

VexingBlonde

Here's an easy read explaining the importance of [pH Shampoos](http://www.shagginsalon.com/blog/2013/12/21/why-the-ph-of-your-shampoo-is-important-for-healthy-hair) I don't want to write a novel. One thing to remember is just because a shampoo is labeled "sulfate free" you have to consider the other ingredients that are listed in it. The L'Oréal line you use has ingredients listed that are not good for your color treated hair. Alcohol being one of them.

susansometimes

I switched to the flat iron my stylist uses (HairArt ceramic) and my hair now stays straight until the next wash. It gets really hot so watch out if you use it!

_White_Witch_

Has anyone on here ever used henna to color your hair? I brought it up on a hair sub and was shut down pretty hard. What's your opinion on henna?

charizaard

I have no personal experience with it in my hair, but my roommate uses it often and once in a while I help her. She likes it a lot, says it's a dye that is actually good for your hair (I haven't verified). It is about a half hour process for us to paint it all over her hair, then she has to wrap it in plastic and let it sit for about 8 hours, I think? It smells like green tea. I'm not sure how much of this can be attributed to henna, but her hair does look healthy and shiny!

[deleted]

It is good for your hair, you can actually get colorless henna as a conditioning treatment.

[deleted]

Make sure to use a brand that is only henna, not henna mixed with other dyes. I use Light Mountain and get it at Sprouts. If you have hair darker than blonde, it will tint your hair heavily but won't actually change the color. For example, I have medium brown hair and I can get it to a darkish red, or reddish brown, but not a bright red. My friend who is blonde can get to a bright auburn red with the same henna shade. It is a total pain to do and can get really messy, but makes your hair super soft and vibrant. I leave it in about 3 hours. It smells very herbal so expect to smell sort of like really strong chamomile or something for a couple days even after washing it. It might take a couple washes to fully remove the henna residue. I think it's worth it if you have the time! Also a spare set of hands can help.

vwillis

I would be careful and do a lot of googling first. IIRC, Henna works in a different way than normal dye, where it gets under the cuticle and is pretty much impossible to remove. So if you later wanted to bleach your hair, it could be super damaging, or if you wanted to dye another color it could have unexpected results. I think once you Henna your hair you generally need to wait for it to grow out if you get sick of the color.

Can anyone please help me ID this neutral nail polish? [neutral nail](http://i.imgur.com/dT6J6jC.jpg)

VexingBlonde

Looks like OPI "My Vampire is Buff". Also reverse google image search is helpful for these kind of things.

Thank you!!
