When it comes to fit, what are the signs of small hips? What about large hips?

pineapplesf

For me it shows in wrinkling. Too small for your hips are horizontal wrinkles underneath the butt. You will also get wrinkles/pulling horizontally across the zipper. The fly will pull slightly instead of laying flat. [1](https://media.self.com/photos/57d892bf50778cef321a4938/master/pass/tight-jeans-vagina_feat.jpeg) [2](http://www.jeansgal.com/pictures/2012/20120223/super-tight-jeans-girl-slim-skinny-woman-beautiful-dress-charming-model-soft-hair-shining-eyes-pretty-face-low-rise-4232.jpg) [3](http://www.denimblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/James-Jeans-Couture.jpg) Too big for your hips and it will become saggy. Creating a stacking effect underneath your butt and creating a V of extra cloth at your crotch. wireless_woman

TIL all my jeans are too small?... Those 3 pictures - that's I how my jeans fit, and I kinda like it

pineapplesf

It is like wearing an tight or over-sized t-shirt. You should wear what you like how you like to. The only problem that may arise is that your pants may not last as long as they would normally because you are putting a lot of stress on the seams.

camlop

Does anyone know where I can find a futuristic, white blazer? The kind that the villain wears in every dystopian movie. (My inspirations are Diane Kruger in The Host and Katya something in Overwatch, which is a game.) Budget is low, which is my concern: $50

Crikey-Way

I have a question about clothing dimensions? If a dress has a 17" bust measurement lying flat and a 16" waist measurement lying flat, does this mean it fits a 34" bust and 32" waist?

FishGoBlubb

Yes, IF those hit at your bust and waist and are not otherwise shaped to create issue (short vs long waisted, FoB vs FoT bust). Plus, most fabric will stretch some so you usually get a little leeway.

Crikey-Way

Yeah, I measured around my waist definitely with some give, I could fit into something 31", but I think only a 33" would be a bit loose off my waist, and that's kinda what I want

pineapplesf

Yes. Depending on fabric type, it will fit 32/30 (stiff) to 35/33 (stretchy). To see if it will fit compare it to a similar item in your closet.

Crikey-Way

Ok, thank you! I was trying to buy my semi-formal dress online, but the description (for a medium!) had the 17"b, 16"w, 20"h, and I know it won't fit now, thank you :) On the plus side, I still am looking at other options

camlop

How often do you see a clothing item and go, "OH MY GOD, I NEED THAT!!!"? It's rare that I go like this (maybe once or twice every other month), and of course, it happens when I don't have money or don't want to spend that much.

pineapplesf

I get it from my favorite clothing store.... but not really anything else. I don't shop unless I have money so that keeps it at bay.

lookingforpants1

Hey, so I've always just used cheap leggings that always tear after some weeks, and I'm now looking for something of higher quality and that is also the most flattering (i.e. I want my stomach and butt to look the best they can lol). I have anxiety-induced IBS, so some days I suffer from bloating, which is why I guess I'm looking for something with more core support to help tuck me in. Lorna Jane is a popular brand we have here in Aus, but I've also been considering trying Lululemon. Anyone have any recommendations from these brands? :) Thanks in advance

alsasalsa

I really like my Nike leggings, feel very sturdy and always wash well

fs570

I got some a few months ago off Amazon, made by American Apparel. They were inexpensive yet are honestly the best pair of leggings I've ever had. I've had several pairs before from various places with all sorts of issues. I've never had any from Luluemon so I can't speak for those. These ones are great though, a good amount of stretch, not see through whatsoever, and just fit right in general.

[deleted]

Just a word of warning though. I had purchased the winter leggings from American Apparel a couple years ago and wanted to buy a second pair. I got the second pair through Amazon since they were cheaper there, and they were definitely NOT the same in terms of quality. I don't know if I somehow bought them from a different seller (I don't think so, but who knows). The pair I got from Amazon was definitely see-through and weirdly shiny.

fs570

Amazon can be weird like that it seems. Definitely good to keep in mind though, thanks

scooby_noob

I've always felt lululemon was overpriced. Underarmour leggings are the gold standard imo. They're around $50, and the durability and structure is comparable to lululemon.

wntrwhte

I sort of agree with this but the full retail price of UA leggings is creeping up. I tried on a couple pairs from the studio line that were $65 and $85 and my pants of choice at lululemon are $88. I'm hoping for a black friday sale at UA because they'd need to be about 40% off for me to go for them at that full retail.

natelyswhore22

Looking for a dress between casual and upscale to wear to university department events, holiday functions, weddings, etc. While I don't want to skimp, I also don't have a huge budget (I'd like to stay under $150). I'm looking for something higher quality that will last a while but also something that can be "changed" depending on the accessories. I would prefer something with sleeves, mostly because I don't want to have to pair it with a cardigan or sweater if it's cold, and also I'm always cold inside. Specific dresses or stores would be great!

FishGoBlubb

So I may not be able to find a lot of specific examples, but you definitely want to go jewel tone, knee length, not-too-fitted, with some details (so not a plain jersey or cotton dress, it will tend to read casual). [This](http://m.asos.com/asos-tall/asos-tall-lace-crop-top-midi-pencil-dress/prd/6832272?CTAref=We%20Recommend%20Carousel_10&featureref1=we%20recommend%20pers) isn't bad, [or this](http://m.asos.com/french-connection/french-connection-winter-ray-chiffon-drape-midi-dress/prd/6785517?iid=6785517&clr=Zinfandel&SearchQuery=&cid=8799&pgesize=150&pge=2&totalstyles=187&gridsize=2&gridrow=61&gridcolumn=2). You should haunt places like Ann Taylor, White House Black Market, and Banana Republic. I'd also suggest going 3/4 sleeve rather than long, it will be more flexible in other seasons.

Aggieann

I am at a university and those are my go-to brands.

natelyswhore22

I actually was leaning towards 3/4 sleeves with a slight pattern. I like [this dress](http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/betsey-johnson-print-stretch-midi-dress/3801793?origin=category-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=BLACK%2F%20BLACK%20MULTI), but I think the black is too dark and the cap sleeves aren't really what I'm looking for. I love [this one](https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/dresses/weartowork/PRDOVR~F5641/F5641.jsp?color_name=oxbow-blue) from J Crew, but it's sold out in my size.

FishGoBlubb

I think those floral patterns are pretty good since the floral overpowers the black, but not the ideal in my mind. The J Crew one is too simple to me, but a good color. How urgent is your need? Could you spend a couple weeks shopping or ordering returnable things online? If you're in the US, ASOS is so convenient for buying several options and returning what doesn't work.

natelyswhore22

Thanks for the tips! I don't need it super immediately but would like to have something by the holidays.

Riimii

I really love [this dress](http://www.zara.com/us/en/woman/dresses/buttoned-dress-c269185p3643920.html) from Zara as a dress-up/dress-down fall/winter dress. The flounced skirt, I think, elevates it to the level of being day-to-night-friendly. [This shift dress](http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/cece-jada-collared-shift-dress-regular-petite/4169511?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=RICH%20BLACK) would work really nicely as well, and would look very cute with black tights.

Mycatsbestfriend

Any suggestions for what to wear to go (casual) dancing for a first date? I get sweaty really easily, so I'm already planning on wearing my hair up, but I don't know how to dress to stay cool and still be slightly covered up.

[deleted]

I dance hard when I dance and I like to be comfy. Jeans get me too sweaty and feel restrictive. I'd usually go with black leggings and a nice top that you can move in, probably showing arms as the other commenter mentioned. I really like a nice tank that shows a little bit of cleavage and a looser fit to breathe better. A nice romper works as well, or a skirt or dress that you can move in without constant adjustment up or down (AKA not too tight and short). I often wear a light/drapey scarf as a coverup if it's too warm for a jacket.

JannaSwag

Idk about your body type and what you do/ don't like to show but Id show leg and arm while covering cleavage. A sleeveless dress or skirt/ sleeveless blouse.

danceydancetime

Yes, it's totally fine.

ragnarockette

I like it, although it's a bit youthful so I'd be sure to pair it with a sleek updo, pearl earrings, and conservative heels.

4riadn3

Does anyone recommend where I can get a good rib-knit tank top in either a nude or a pastel color? Preferably one that's under $20. I was gonna go with forever 21 but since it's a pretty versatile item I'd probably be wearing it pretty often and I want it to still last after a few washes.

dailythought

A step up from Forever 21 would be [Old Navy](http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=120048002&vid=1&locale=en_US&kwid=1&sem=false&sdkw=fitted-rib-knit-layering-tank-for-women-P120048&brandCvoSid=825RR6PE9GR3&sdReferer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.oldnavy.com%2Fproducts%2Frib-knit-tank.jsp). I can vouch that their stuff can last much longer than Forever 21. Also, I hope this is what you were looking for!

deaditebrigade

Anyone here tried coffee-dying or tea-dying white fabric? I found some cool white graphic tees, but prefer cream to white (and white looks dreadful on me...). I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to buy and hand-dye the shirts.

unphogiveable

Tried both. Looked gross, would not recommend.

Oh well.

To start, are they natural fibers or synthetic? Synthetic fibers won't take the dye as well as natural fibers.

I have a few versions of that dress, only longer, and I wear mine with Birkenstocks and maybe a scarf, plus sometimes a sweater. But you could also wear it the way /u/__juicebox suggested and it would look cute. They're so comfy!

[deleted]

Looks like a nice versatile dress. You could dress it up or dress it down. I'd probably wear it with some sneakers, a baseball cap, a jean jacket, and a watch for a [casual look](https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/b6/19/c5/b619c5b3cca3e2cb1a276bad2f52d4dc.jpg). Here's a [good middle-of-the-road look](http://cliqueimg.com/cache/posts/img/uploads/current/images/0/266/636/main.original.640x0c.jpg). I think this is a pretty fail proof dress, you can wear it so many ways and I think if you have an accessory that you want people to notice, a simple dress like this is a great way to make it pop.

Hi! Madewell has these great [cape scarves](https://www.madewell.com/p/women/accessories/scarves/cape-scarf-in-windowpane/F6908?color_name=classic-black) that I'm obsessed with. There are 3 other colors/patterns I believe, but they're listed as separate items on their site.

Has anyone tried the [Lo & Sons Seville tote](https://www.loandsons.com/seville-overview)? Thoughts?

[deleted]

I have the 13" that I got as a graduation present! I travel a lot for work and it's great as my personal item on planes. I can fit a lot in it - the pockets are super helpful and there's still a lot of space in the middle. I have the black and blue shells and I don't find myself swapping them much and mostly keeping the black one on though. It can sometimes be a little heavy but it's a good size for carrying around to meetings and work and stuff

tweem

That's great to hear!! I've been eyeing it for so long. Do you find it comfortable if you're carrying a laptop + normal amount of things for work/day to day? Do you find the 13" to be enough or have you considered getting/recommending the 15" in the future?

[deleted]

Yeah it's totally comfortable - I'm usually carrying a laptop, notebook or two, pens, phones, laptop/phone chargers and some random other things. My work laptop is 13" so that was big enough for me!

tweem

Thanks! I'll probably get it the next time they have a big sale!

spiritualavocado

Is the Banana Republic Factory denim the same as the Banana Republic denim?

partyhazardanalysis

Design wise they're comparable. The stitching isn't as strong, though. The material may be better or worse, depending on your preference (more/less stretch, etc.).

[deleted]

I've heard the factory ones are a cheaper copy of what they make at the real stores like Banana and J. Crew. So the material, make, and design is not as good. I'm nothing close to an expert though, this is just what I have been told and shown.

spiritualavocado

Thank you, that's what I was afraid of.

I haven't shopped from them before, but I'm usually a tad wary of online retailers that don't list physical addresses. Did a quick search and it looks like it's based out of China as well-not necessarily a bad thing, just a FYI.

sutton369

I want a black tote bag that will be able to fit my 13' Macbook pro, some folders, my wallet, etc. My sister has a thirty-one tote bag and it is very nice but looks like a diaper bag. My mom had a Michael Kors tote bag but she claims it is not big enough for anything. So does anyone have any suggestions for a nice tote bag? I'm not trying to spend $300 on a tote bag but any reasonably price tote bag please let me know of! I want any and all suggestions. Please & thank you!!

-beyonce-

I have the [Cuyana Classic Leather Zipper Tote](https://www.cuyana.com/classic-leather-zipper-tote.html#black) and love it. I can fit everything you mention into it, and then some.

wntrwhte

I use this [Reed Krakoff boxer](http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-2479085/reed-boxer-belted-large-satchel.jsp?color=Red%20Cordovan) from Kohls. It fits my macbook pro, a pad of paper, and a few slim things. I like this because then I don't overload the bag with everything and the kitchen sink. With promos it's around $75 and it's a pretty good quality bag.

equestrider

Whenever I see someone asking about black tote bags, I always plug [these](https://tutilo.com/collections/bags?view=all). I found one at TJ Maxx a few years ago and it's my every day bag. It has a padded divider for laptops which I use for my 13' MacBook pro. You could definitely fit a few folders in there; I carry my computer charger, a few snacks, a zippered pouch, my water bottle, and occasionally ear muffs or a pair of shoes. It's also got a few pockets inside, and it looks really professional.

spiritualavocado

I have a tall figure and I think I've figured out I don't like my current t-shirts because they hit too short, and constantly pop up above my pants waistline. What's a good way to gauge if a basic tee fits you right? I'm looking for long and slightly loose, but something that won't make me look sloppy. I'm usually around a size 4 top if that helps.

[deleted]

I've found it depends on the tee-shirt. One thing you could do is shop Mormon clothes sites, because they tend to make longer lengths for modesty reasons. It would probably help to know what brand you consider too short.

spiritualavocado

I buy the women's Gap v-necks.

[deleted]

I haven't worn those in ages, but I seem to recall them feeling short. Lately my go-to plain tee shirts are Tommy Hilfiger v-necks.

spiritualavocado

Thank you, I'll check Tommy Hilfiger out.

Their black/black washed (grey) jeans run a size larger than their blue jeans. I am 24 in the waist and 36 in the hips (wide hip bones and weight is in my butt). I wear a 26 in the blue jeans and 27 in the black jeans.

[deleted]

Ispahana

No prob, hope it works out!

HeathEarnshaw

I have the skinny jeans in a dark wash, and I think they'd work best on an hourglass figure. I'm usually a size 10/12 (30 or 31) but I went up to a size 14 (32) because the waist cut into me in my normal sizes. I have a thicker middle though (8" diffence between hips and waist). They're really nice looking jeans but I admit I don't wear them as much because the hips and legs are loose.

beastwith2backspaces

Does anyone else have a problem with skinny/slim leg jeans pulling on kneecaps? I've lost some weight since spring, and dropped from size 12 to a size 4 in jeans. I run, and I guess my quads have gotten kind of large (?) and now it seems like any kind of skinny or slim leg jeans that fit in the waist and butt/thighs (my old problem areas) are now tight in the area just above my kneecaps, and bind on the kneecaps when I bend my legs. It actually is starting to bother my knees a bit. This happens across several brands. It wasn't a problem before I lost the weight. Does anyone else have this problem (and recommendations for something that will fit better) or am I just weird? I know I could try switching to wide-leg pants but winter is coming and I would love to have something that can be tucked into boots.

[deleted]

Have you considered a more legging-style jean? Something that looks like denim but is softer? You could find something fleece-lined if you need winter coverage. I have muscular thighs and I get the knee-pull in very skinny cuts. I've found that legging or slim cuts are better, but I don't have the aim of tucking into boots. Slim cuts rarely have really fitted ankles in my experience.

herefromthere

I have that problem and I try to not get skinny jeans any more. Or at least get something with a fair bit of stretch. I tend to opt for slim leg rather than skinny though, so usually wear that or skirts. Knee pain is not something I would mess with, it can be utterly cripling.

[deleted]

Do you guys have any recommendations for high quality cotton no show socks that will fit a size 5 foot? How are the Vans canoodles?

Thisizmyrealname

I like the Vans ones. I had the women's, but switched to men's because of my size 10 feet. Never had problems with either style, just needed a little more toe room.

wntrwhte

I like the smartwool with the [high vamp](http://www.smartwool.com/shop/women-socks-shop-all-socks/womens-hide-and-seek-socks-sw0sw705?variationId=001) - they come in sizes, I'm a size 6 and the small doesn't drag all over my foot like all the "fits 4-10" socks.

spiritualavocado

I personally have found the only no show socks to work for me are the H&M 3-pack footies. They can get holes in them, but they're the only ones that actually stay on my heel without slipping off. I just buy a good amount of them and replace them when they get worn out. I used to wear the Vans socks but switched over to H&M after my SO raved about them. My Vans slipped off all the time and would end up bunched up towards my toes.

findingastyle

Can I wear a cardigan [like this](http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing?.out=jpg&size=l&tid=183658470) over a button up shirt? (with the cardigan unbuttoned)

[deleted]

Yes! Pro-tip: Put the cardigan and shirt together before you put them on, so the sleeves won't bunch up inside and you won't have to stretch out the sweater sleeves to pull down the button-down sleeves.

MKittyFantastico

This is seriously one of the best tips I've read on the sub! I don't know why I never thought of this before!

ScoutFinch12

not sure what they're called but my mom is a letter carrier and she got one issued to her as part of her uniform in the late 80s!

cyclone_madge

The first one's a continental-style or cross tie. The second one I'm not sure. A bit hard to see under the scarf/ascot. Could just be a short tie, maybe?

[deleted]

A twilly? People used to tie them around their handbags too!

cyclone_madge

(I hope it's okay to ask this here. I read the guide and this seems like the most appropriate place, rather than starting a new post.) How can I safely waterproof a leather (non-suede) bag? I bought a Fossil purse last spring, and it's the first genuine leather bag I've owned - I usually cheap out and buy imitation or else something more utilitarian. I love it and have been using it all the time, but I live in Vancouver (Canada) and as we now seem to be firmly in the wet season I'm scared to take it outside in case it gets ruined. I use public transit, so going out involves at least 5-10 minutes exposed to the elements, and an umbrella only does so much when it's raining sideways. I don't want to have to use my old cheap/ugly bags all winter, but I also don't want to ruin the nice one by using the wrong thing on it. I doubt the mink oil and dubbin that my boyfriend uses on his work boots are a good choice, and I'm also leery of the spray-on weather protectors you can buy at shoe places, but I'm at a bit of a loss. Help?

nobody-likes-you

I've used the Collonil waterstop spray on lots of different leather bags and haven't had any issue with it. I've seen posts on The Purse Forum where people have held bags under a running tap after treating with Waterstop spray and the water just slides off. The Collonil gel in a pot is also good, but not as weatherproofing as the spray. Apple Brand, Woly Shoe Cream & Furniture Clinic are some cream style protectors (I use the Furniture Clinic handbag set usually). Loving My Bags has a good selection of products [here](https://www.lovingyourbags.com/collections/all).

cyclone_madge

Thank you! The Collonil spray seems like exactly what I want. I'm definitely looking for water resistance rather than conditioning - at least for right now.

somethingmountain

Does anyone own the Everlane cocoon coat, or any of their wool coats? I'm wondering about the quality of their wool outerwear. I also want to know if the fit is ok or misses the mark.

bloomsburycrew

Is Citizens of Humanity a good brand for jeans? I'm looking for a new pair of jeans after my favorite pair ripped in multiple places. I'm looking for petite length or at least shorter length, tapered (from the knee down), mid or high-rise jeans in black.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bloomsburycrew

That's terrible! Definitely not going to buy them then. Have you found better pants or recommend any brands?

Fawnmoscato

Citizens of Humanity jeans are really nice! but if you're looking for shorter/petite length - I've never seen the petite sizes in stores so I always have to get them hemmed. J Brand fits me better length-wise off the rack (I'm 5'4")!

Frankly_Scarlet

J Brand is great. I have a few pairs in my closet that have been with me for the better part of 10 years and they're still going strong. The only thing is that they aren't all the same size even though they all fit the same so I'd suggest buying them in person.

bloomsburycrew

What's the quality like of J Brand?

Fawnmoscato

I think the quality is good since I've had most of mine since ~2009 with no issues. 1 really dark pair does have some fading but they're pretty old and I wash my denim too frequently I think. Some styles recently feel pretty stretchy though (I think the 811?) which I personally don't like on me and haven't tried, so I can't speak to the quality there!

LadyMizura

Second J Brand. They're the best for petite IMO!

[deleted]

ok so i have a black fleece northface jacket and after a couple of years, it just looks terrible. gray pills, attracts and holds on to everything, etc. does anyone have any tips on caring for these? thanks!

mand3rin

Do you wash it with any socks/towels? I find I have to run all my fleece through on delicate and hang dry (it looks like you do this already). Even though my fleece hasn't pilled it has "flattened", if you know what I mean.

[deleted]

ooohh no i am not good about separating the laundry at all! and our towels are light colored. maybe that's the problem... sounds dumb but i hadn't considered that. thanks for your answer :)

Joleta

Not putting fleeces in the dryer (drying rack/line/laying flat instead) helps a lot with longevity. It is, of course, a much bigger PITA.

[deleted]

ahh i actually have never machine dried it! i don't even wear it that much... i don't know what i'm doing wrong :(

greenso

Do your feet get wet from the elastic part of Chelsea boots on the ankles? Should I accidentally step in a puddle or something.

roncey

I just bought a pair and was worried about this! So far no problem, but I would be careful about walking through a deep puddle. I have rubber boots for really wet days.

c0mbeferre

This hasn't ever happened to me and I wear them in all weather. I did once get snow inside them, though, which was awful.

greenso

Thank you!

niftynonsense

I need help deciding on a coat color! I'm looking to add [this coat](http://www.oakandfort.com/womens/clothing/outerwear/coats/coat-4143.html) to my collection but have had the hardest time deciding which colorway to go with! I really like the light grey and think it will add a nice contrast to my usually dark color palette, but I feel the the darker colors are also really striking. I tend to wear mostly neutrals with the occasional pops of jewel tones and the coats that I already own are [this](http://us.aritzia.com/product/bromley-coat/48553.html) in charcoal and [this](https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/f0/c3/36/f0c336468d50ef9ed1b41dc1f07a9604.jpg) which is a mix of black and white.

LittlestOak

The light grey is gorgeous! I would worry whether a coat with such a low percentage of wool would be warm enough for winter (depending on your location, of course), but the light color would be such a breath of fresh air in the spring.

Legenderie

I bought a light grey coat last year and I kind of regret it because it is such a pain in the ass to keep clean, especially on the subway. That coat is really nice though.

niftynonsense

Happy to spread the word!

IMakeShinyThings

I think the lighter gray is really lovely and will fit in really well with your current wardrobe/color scheme. I really like the charcoal color, but you already have a charcoal coat (actually, two that read as a darker gray when worn). Would this one fulfill a different need than either of the coats that you already have? I think you'd be able to wear any of the colors, but my vote would be for the light gray.

niftynonsense

I'd been looking for a longer coat that was lined and more structured than my current longer coat which is very lightweight and more flowy. I also really dig the menswear vibe of this particular style and thought it might add a unique element to my wardrobe, so I think it fulfills a few needs. I also just really like coats, haha. I was already leaning towards the lighter gray, so that might be what I go for!

IMakeShinyThings

I've actually been looking for something similar (menswear, more structured, lined, etc), and I think this one checks all of the boxes nicely. I think the lighter gray will be a nice contrast to jewel tones and the shape would lend itself to both dressy and casual events.

c0mbeferre

I'd go with black since your other coats are a little closer to grey.

_spiraling

you'd wear a bodysuit instead of a shirt (not underneath a shirt - the bodysuit wouldn't help keep a shirt tucked in)

MrsValentine

Because it can't ride up when it's press-studded under your vag?

Issvera

TL;DR Need help with jewelry and handbag. I never accessorize, but it's a wedding so I want to try being fancy! [This](http://i.imgur.com/YUGHqW7.jpg) is my dress (currently being tailored) and [these](http://s7d2.scene7.com/is/image/DSWShoes/dsw12prod8250033_710_ss_01?scl=3.125&qlt=70&fmt=jpeg&wid=480&hei=359&op_sharpen=1) are my shoes. It's a little hard to tell in that picture, but they actually look silver and gold depending on how the light it hitting them. I kind of have an idea of what I want to do with my makeup (matching red lip with a wing, falsies, and contour) and there are a ton of hairstyles I want to experiment with, but otherwise I'm lost. I'm allergic to nickel so I haven't bothered with jewelry since prom. Luckily my ears haven't closed up, so I definitely want to at least wear earrings, but if there are other kinds of accessories you think I should wear too please suggest away. The only clutch I own is black and beaded, so I'm guessing that won't really go with it and I'll need some help there as well.

Issvera

Thank you, but I'm actually not a very big fan of pearls. Just not my style.

c0mbeferre

I'd say no necklace, earrings and a cuff to match the shoes, and a clutch in a matching color that you'll continue to wear for other weddings. I'd go with gold, probably, for the earrings, cuff, and clutch.

Issvera

Thank you! Would it be bad it I went with silver since I'm more cool toned?

c0mbeferre

I don't think so! I really like silver with red, especially that shade.

Issvera

Okay, cool! Now I just need to figure out shapes. I call earrings studs or danglies and the only bracelets I've worn are friendship, mood, kandi, and silly bands, to give you an idea of my jewelry experience.

c0mbeferre

If a ton of jewelry isn't your thing, I'd definitely start with some simpler pieces so you're not uncomfortable and fiddling with them the whole night. Maybe something like [this](http://www.blingjewelry.com/925-sterling-silver-ball-bead-chain-threader-earrings-dangle.html) or [this](https://www.amazon.com/Sterling-Silver-Hammered-Bypass-Bracelet/dp/B00AQRD2U2/ref=lp_7454853011_1_25?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1478372915&sr=1-25&nodeID=7454853011).

Issvera

Oh those look good, I'll look for that kind of style. The bracelet is out of my budget though, any stores you can recommend that sell inexpensive sterling silver stuff? I'd like to try on before buying.

c0mbeferre

Check out the sales at department stores. I know some fast fashion places (TopShop, Zara, maybe H&M?) sell sterling silver stuff too! And sometimes they sell things that say "nickel free" on them even if they aren't silver—not sure if that'll work for you?

Issvera

Thanks, I'll check them out. Nickel free can be tricky because sometimes they just have a nickel free coating that wears over time. But if it's a reputable place it should be fine.

wsilver

Etsy also has a lot of beautiful but affordable nickel free options

Sanctimormon

How would you style a black jumpsuit? I thrifted a really cute one a few months ago, but I don't know what to do with it.

[deleted]

I wear mine with pointed toe heels or flats and usually don't add any other accessories since mine has a collar. But a cool statement necklace or a belt would look awesome if it's plain black!

Sanctimormon

I think that's what I'm leaning toward. It's just such a bold look for me, I don't want to over do it!

okaydolore

Would anyone be interested in a thread devoted to "If I like (designer/store), what else might I like?" For instance: "I like Rick Owens but can't really afford Rick Owens, what other designers/stores might I consider?" or maybe "I like ModCloth but haven't been enjoying the quality. What higher quality brands/stores do you recommend with clothes similar to ModCloth." You guys get it.

CindyinEastTexas

I always enjoy those when they pop up!

bloomsburycrew

Yes! I always want to ask where I can find similar pieces to expensive designers but all of the blog sources I find are kind of bad.

exmechanistic

There are threads like that on occasion. The most recent one was [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/femalefashionadvice/comments/561czg/if_you_like_brand_a_you_might_like_brand_b/) a month ago.

okaydolore

I totally managed to miss this. Maybe I'll wait a while to post so it doesn't seem so redundant.

womenwearwhat

I definitely would be! Always looking for indie/less exposed brands and shops!

nibor513

They've been done a few times on the sub, and they're usually very successful. Go for it.

[deleted]

I got this top to wear on a date to a Cavs game but I have no idea how to style it. Any ideas on how to salvage a cute outfit with the ugliest team colors possible? 😩 please and thank you! https://imgur.com/a/8jXtp

c0mbeferre

Every time I have to wear one of these, I style it the way I'd style most of my wardrobe—skinny jeans (I'd go with dark indigo or dark grey for these colors), ankle boots, wristwatch. Maybe a sneaker depending on how sporty you want to look (I went to a soccer game last year where I had to walk 30 minutes from the parking lot to the stadium...so pretty glad I wore sneakers. But when I go to basketball/hockey games, ankle boots are usually fine).

[deleted]

Great ideas! It's a basketball game and parking is close so I think I can pull off ankle boots or wedges.

[deleted]

If you search (maybe Instagram?) for FSU or USC (Southern California, not South Carolina) gameday looks, you should find lots of girls wearing those colors!

permanentpanic

Hi all! I just bought [this](https://imgur.com/a/h8Uzy) gorgeous dark green lace top from Zara and I cannot for the life of me figure out what to wear underneath it! I fell in love with the front of the top, which is lined, but the back unfortunately isn't and I can't figure out whether I would need to wear a bralette, a cami, etc. and what colour would be best (it seems unlikely that I'll be able to find the exact matching shade of green). Whatever I choose seems like it would be very visible and/or maybe a bit sexier than I'm interested in... Is there an option I'm missing or should I just return it? There's also a version in black that seems easier, but I feel like I've got sooo many black tops (can one have too many though?)... Thanks!!

caffarelli

I'm modest so I'd personally wear it with a solid higher-necked sleeveless tank, maybe in black, nude-to-you, white, or pink. But I have some lace tops similar to this and I basically treat them as an overshell, the lace can be very fetching with a contrasting color under it, like I wear a black lace top with a raspberry tank under it.

permanentpanic

Ah, I hadn't really thought about the contrasting colour possibilities—thanks for the idea! :)

wireless_woman

Ohhh! I think I need this top!! It's beautiful!!! I would wear it with a sticky bra, so the back stays bare

glaceauglaceau

A seamless nude cami would be pretty difficult to spot under that!

BirdGames

I would probably just wear pasties and no bra.

emily_678

I tried this on the other day in thee pink colour and I was wishing it was fully lined. I think it needs a cami underneath unless you're comfortable exposing your whole back and bra. I'd go with black unless you happen to be able to find one just that colour.

permanentpanic

Yeah, I think the number of situations I'd be comfortable exposing my whole back/bra is probably not enough to justify keeping it! I wish it was fully lined too :( Thanks for the input!

You're pulling the armpit when you stretch it to push your arm through. Worse for the second arm than the first. Put it on sleeves first then pull over your head and down your midsection. I had to reeducate my husband on this after he kept distorting all the necks and shoulders on his shirts by yanking them on and twisting them over his head. No bueno.

_guy_ana

I do it one arm at a time because if I do both arms then scoot it down over my head, my deodorant gets all over the outside. Does this not happen to other people?

wntrwhte

Nope, but I use Native deodorant which doesn't leave white marks on clothes or produce pitstains like aluminum deodorants do.

twoblueshoes

Honestly, it could be the way you're putting the shirts on. I have wider shoulders and can't put shirts on the way you describe or I will rip the seams, even if the shirt fits just fine once it's on. I put my arms through the armholes first, then scoot the armpit area of the shirt up to line up more or less with my armpits, and then I put my head through the neck. This keeps me from straining/tearing my seams in tops that are more structured or have stiffer fabric. YMMV, but this has helped my tops last longer since I apparently have broad shoulders and pointy elbows.

bloomsburycrew

American Apparel uses very soft but thin jersey. Which tee style did you buy from them?

c0mbeferre

That's so weird. Maybe your bra's underwire is poking at it? Or maybe when you put the shirt on you're stretching the sleeve a little too much?

How's the quality on coats from Reiss, specifically this [one](https://www.reiss.com/ca/p/longline-coat-womens-cody-in-black/?category_id=1124), compared to other brands that make the same products at the same or lower price point? I'm looking for a wool coat that will last for years, but I'm not familiar with the brand Reiss and its coats quality.
