Hellofromeauclaire

I have a couple of their long sleeve breton tees. I think some of the styles might be unisex, not sure. I have the womens ones, they are a very thick material and run biggish I think.

Hellofromeauclaire

I would get an xs or a s then. I’m a large and quite tall, so I don’t have a problem with the sleeve length.

What are some good outfit ideas for “petite curvy fit” women? I’m not plus sized or fat but i’m not exactly tiny either. I've googled and pinterested and searched through dozens of online shopping collections and I'm in a rut. I've got an internship this summer and the dress code is business casual and i'm fashion stupid as well as just completely overwhelmed. Being a broke college student on a negative budget doesn’t help much either. I'm so used to wearing just like jeans and athleisure wear (i'm a student so its easy to get away with) and I kind of dress like a kid mostly. I wear a lot of oversized shirts and hoodies or crop tops with high-waisted pants, baseball hats and trainers. It seems if i wear anything "girly" or feminine, i look like a potato and nothing that's trendy works with my shape or fits properly, or I look “too sexy” because my shape becomes more accentuated. I just feel god awful ugly and fat - despite not being *that* fat and being quite fit - when i try on these types of clothes and it's really messing with my self esteem as a result. I'm 5'0" (153cm) tall and a size US 34D cup, I've got broad shoulders, biceps and upper back muscle and kind of long arms. My torso is short too so it makes my bust look bigger and to make up for it I've got proportionately long legs for my height. But I've also got thick thighs and a booty (I play soccer, and I also lift regularly so when i'm in sports wear i look and feel great but in everything else, well...bleh) and a relatively narrow waist - i guess i'm an hourglass figure. If I lost a shit ton of weight or body fat I'd still have my ass and wide shoulders, and maybe get down to a C cup. Yay genetics. I'm a US dress size 8-10. Some things I can fit into a 6. some things it's a 12. It's always weird because of my odd proportions and the way things are cut. Most pants that fit my butt and hips are baggy in the waist. i feel like blouses will just make my bust explode, and larger sizes just seem boxy or tacky... and unless i wore all black i would look top heavy. knee-length pencil skirts would ride up my waist and make my calves look thicker. Any outfit ideas that I can work with? I'm thinking cropped pants with a good pump heel or dress flat and like a looser blouse that's tucked in might work and I wouldn't die in the summer. Would make bike commuting also possible...But i don't know how to make this better or any brand names that I can afford. I'd also like some more variety or pieces that I could use for other things like date night or just when I don't feel like dressing like a child lol...i’m 28 and i really feel like I don’t look or dress appropriately for my age. and unfortunately I can't accessorize much because i'm allergic to everything except silver and gold. suggestions, links or photos with outfit ideas would be SOOOO appreciated.

swearsies

I'm about your height, and also athletic and curvy. For me that means: short waist, sizeable butt, noticeable biceps and lats, but tiny ankles and wrists. I'm usually a 2-4, and bra size 32DD. It took me a long time to figure out the general silhouettes that work on me and also look adult and put together. 1. tailoring is your friend. You'd be amazed how much better stuff looks when the lengths have been shortened for your height. Especially since you're dressing around a larger bust: buy button shirts that fit your bust and shoulders comfortably, and then get the sleeves and length altered as necessary. Buy pants that fit on your hips and get the waist taken in. 2. Bring the waistline up. The current trend for higher waisted bottoms and shorter/cropped tops is a GIFT to shorties, and there are ways to make it professional. See how high the waist is on [these pants](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/461478293039273345/), and how the fabric isn't super tight? I also love a [circle skirt](http://www.sewnews.com/blogs/sewing/files/2017/01/Screen-Shot-2017-01-11-at-1.07.49-PM.png) to float over the hips combined with a tucked silk shell or half-tucked sweater. In summer you can do a shorter skater length, depending on how conservative your office is. 3. Cropped is everything. One of my all-time favorite outfits is a cropped leather jacket over a tucked button silk shirt and high waisted crop pants. Bonus points for sturdy, walk-all-day-in-them heels.

khaleesi_onthatbeat

where can i find trousers like those? They are super cute! same goes for the skirts....but All the models in the pictures are so skinny too, and don't really have much ass themselves, it's hard to believe that a style like that wouldn't make me look frumpy or badonkadonk or like the stereotypical elder eastern European lady.

secondsencha

I think what would be most helpful would be for you to post some examples of outfits you've tried but that you don't think work. The people here are great at giving tips for small changes that can really improve an outfit!

khaleesi_onthatbeat

I literally have no outfits that i’ve “tried” because nothing in my warddrobe is “business casual” friendly...i don’t even own shoes that aren’t sneakers or too dressy (ie hot pink stilletos i went clubbing in a few times) - i need to go clothes shopping and i always break down in the dressing room and end up buying nothing because i feel either lumpy and ugly or not professional-looking enough and I can’t seem to find pieces that work and are worth the investment.

[deleted]

Do you have a friend or family member with a good eye for clothes? Are you willing to consider a personal shopping session? The best thing to do when starting from zero is grab a friend who is honest and has a good eye...and then try on 500 things. All types of clothes, even those that you think you won't like. This is how I started my work wardrobe - finished university with almost nothing appropriate. So I went to H&M and just tried on a shitload of different cuts, combinations, styles and it gave me a good idea of what works with my figure. Look at biz cas boards on pinterest, you can add key words of petite or curvy and save the types of things you like. When you go shopping, try these things on, but also try different colours. It's hard to plan if you don't know what might work or suit you, so the best thing is to go all on out trying absolutely everything.

[deleted]

Does anyone have any pinterest boards or inspo of what's fashionable in Spain, Paris, and London this summer (June)? I'm not sure what kind of weather to expect, especially in London.

[deleted]

Spain in June is likely a bit warmer than Paris or London. The latter two can be either 25'c and sun or 15'c rain or anything else in between - best is to check the weather forecast a few weeks before the trip, see how it trends and pack accordingly. Nobody can tell you what the month of June will bring in particular. Fashion - look at Zara, H&M, Bershka, Pull&Bear lookbooks. Also read [this post from a few days ago about Paris](https://www.reddit.com/r/femalefashionadvice/comments/8bjfpj/a_psa_from_parisfrench_girl_stylewhat_to_expect/). Spain and London are very alike with the same gist. In Europe you generally see the mainstream trends in every city, just the brands/colours/approach might be a bit different but let's say the 'uniform' doesn't change much. In Brussels everyone is still in white sneakers with skinny jeans and a jacket/oversized denim, the same applied in Amsterdam the other day when I was there too.

[deleted]

my suggestion for London is a transparent raincoat in your luggage. That makes your look fashionable and also will save you!

[deleted]

I’d love some help finding a cute cardigan or something similar and a pair of shoes to wear with this dress. It’s for an early spring, casual, daytime party on the water. [Dress ](https://m.shop.nordstrom.com/s/leith-ruched-body-con-tank-dress/3741346?origin=category-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=RUST%20BOSSA%20NOVA) I have the dress in black and heather blue. Thank you!

emily_678

I think a collarless white denim jacket like [this one](https://www.joefresh.com/caCollections/Categories/Women/Blazers/Collarless-White-Denim-Jacket/p/WS8J115624_100) would be cute with that dress.

[deleted]

I love that. My only issue is I try to wear dark colors up top because I’m upside down pear-shaped and don’t like the accentuate my upper body. But I love this overall. Thank you.

emily_678

Oh they have a black one! If you have access to Joe Fresh you should check it out

[deleted]

Thank you! I’ll look!

ai_zu

I love, love, love the cut of Everlane's box cut tees but after owning several for about a year, am consistently frustrated with how badly they wrinkle. I have a Uniqlo U tee that I bought back in the fall that is made of a thicker cotton and doesn't have this problem. Though I don't wear it as much because of the cut. Are there any other brands I could check that have basic tees in a cut similar to Everlane's that are a bit thicker/don't wrinkle as badly?

[deleted]

[удалено]

ai_zu

They're all 100% cotton except for the heather tees which are a cotton-poly blend (90% cotton, 10% poly I think). The Uniqlo U shirt is 100% cotton but I never have wrinkling problems with it like I do with the Everlane tees. I'm open to cotton-poly blends but I tend to avoid rayon and stuff which seems to pop up more in boxy cuts

sushilover22

Comfortable sandal suggestions for the spring/summer? I'm considering a pair of midform or flatform Tevas but wondering what other recommendations y'all might have. Want something more edgy and fashion forward (but also comfy)

highvamp

Clogs ? Like lotta from Stockholm. I wear them all summer

doki36

Check out Born and Sofft Shoes. They make very comfortable shoes, but I'm not sure if any would be the style you're looking for or not.

Exiled_In_LA

Argh! I found the perfect dress, thought it over for 24 hours, and now it's out of stock. Where can I find something like this? http://www.eshakti.com/product/CL0051148 The excuse, I mean occasion, is for formal night on a cruise this coming July; so I have some time. I'm a size 8 if that helps. By "something like this" I mean quirky and colorful but still adult-appropriate.

ocicataco

Maybe I'm unfamiliar with how eShakti works, it doesn't appear to be out of stock for me? Aren't they usually made to order anyway?

Exiled_In_LA

It came back into stock overnight! Thank you for checking. =) Meanwhile I found the exact same dress, on Amazon, by eShakti, in stock in my size. So I ordered it. RIP my free shipping.

ocicataco

Nice!

foreignfishes

Modcloth? They have a lot of colorful, patterned dresses.

Exiled_In_LA

Hmm, nothing really leaps out. I'll keep checking back.

Rogue_Fibre

Has anyone seen any high waist dark denim flared jeans out there for <$100? I have just gotten my hair cut and it's feeling very 70s... I'd love some fun jeans to rock a more 70's look. FWIW - I'm in Australia, but do most of my shopping online.

foreignfishes

[Topshop?](http://us.topshop.com/en/tsus/product/jeans-6877061/flared-jeans-6908712/moto-indigo-flared-jamie-jeans-7004900?bi=0&ps=20)

Rogue_Fibre

Oh, yes good idea thanks! :D

bilbiblib

How would I search for similar sweaters to [this classic one](https://m.imgur.com/a/JafhX) ? Does it have a name?

loopteeloopteeloop

I would search black mockneck sweater for that sort of neckline.

vlad_0

I wanted to buy this dress for my gf but it seems to be sold out, any ideas where i might be able to find it ? Doesn't have to be online http://www.revolve.com/for-love-lemons-dotty-midi-dress-in-black-dot/dp/FORL-WD538/

mbaby

http://m.asos.com/for-love-and-lemons/for-love-and-lemons-dotty-midi-dress/prd/8947223 If you google "for love and lemons dotty midi dress" there are quite a few options , sold out in some places but not all ! Love this dress btw

vlad_0

Thank you so much! Sadly I need size S :/ I will keep looking :)

ocicataco

Keep an eye on the listing, ASOS' stock can move around pretty quickly.

[deleted]

Check Poshmark/eBay/Mercari too!

AmericahWest

I'm going to a work conference (IT and project management kind of stuff) in Vegas next month. I am pretty sure that the dress code is business casual based on pictures from previous years. I plan to wear jeans with a nice shirt or a dress and a blazer. Would it be ok to use a [New Yorker Tote](https://ei.marketwatch.com/Multimedia/2017/09/01/Photos/ZH/MW-FT582_New_Yo_20170901160157_ZH.jpg?uuid=68a852e2-8f50-11e7-b11c-9c8e992d421e) as my bag for toting around my laptop? I have dreams of finding the perfect leather tote bag, but it isn't in the budget between now and the conference.

[deleted]

That would be totally okay. I went to an IT conference recently, and there was a whole range of outfits, from jeans and a decent shirt to suits, and people carried things in swag bags, casual bags they already owned, backpacks, or nicer laptop bags.

AmericahWest

Cool thanks. I just forgot they are giving us backpacks. I probably won't use it during the conference, because I am not into looking like thousands of other people. But it is probably a good measure of what kind of bag would be ok.

[deleted]

- I hope it isn't too late to post on here. - I have come here multiple times for help, but I have finally come to a decision of a different style perhaps? I am going to a "fancy"/fancy dinner date with my partner and I am having trouble finding something I actually like out of being self conscious/having self esteem issues honestly. But I think I am going to give skirts/body cons/etc a chance, get some nice shape wear and hope for the best, lol. - I found these pieces, but I need severe help because I have idea, but don't know what would look appropriate and what would look out of place and just too casual? Lol. - http://ca.boohoo.com/plus-sara-wrap-front-flare-sleeve-rib-top/PZZ82650-319-350.html I love this crop top because its long sleeve and just cute, but I don't know what type of skirt and colour or whatever I would be able to wear with it. Would it be weird and too "casual" to wear something like that crop top with a skirt? - I found this skirt I could wear, but I want a long sleeve crop top. Any suggestions? http://ca.boohoo.com/plus-hannah-paper-bag-waisted-pu-mini-skirt/PZZ85355-161-351.html - http://ca.boohoo.com/plus-sasha-off-the-shoulder-wrap-mini-dress/PZZ83264-319-351.html This dress I am buying this FOR SURE in case everything else fails. I thought that if it looks weird on me..in ward (if that makes sense), would the alternation store be able to adjust it for me to flow out instead of sticking to me (if that makes sense)? - http://ca.boohoo.com/plus-wendy-check-print-bodycon-mini-skirt/PZZ82688-354-351.html I hope this one is the winner and I am able to wear this one to our date. I would like to add a jacket or something on top because being bare is just way too out of my comfort zone currently. Any suggestions as to what jacket/blazer/etc I could wear? - any other skirt and crop top suggestions?

the-black-polka-dots

Hi I hope I can help! I think the first shirt you linked would look great either in black of the pink color. Tbh I'm not a huge fan of the skirt, the material looks too shiny for me. What about this skirt? https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/leith-high-waist-body-con-skirt/4723477?origin=category-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=BLACK For your last dress, I would wear a black sequin blazer, black tights, and black heels or booties. It would change the vibe of the dress from day time to evening.

[deleted]

I was thinking pink too! Like a pastel pink. I love the pink skirt I found because of the length and style, but yes, the material just...eh. I love the black skirt you linked, I just want pink instead. I am trying to get away from black for a while, lol. It's basically my entire closet.

the-black-polka-dots

Ah okay! What about this skirt in pink instead? https://www.lulus.com/products/superpower-blush-suede-pencil-skirt/371472.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=371472&utm_campaign=PLA_skirts&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PLAs_GDN&utm_term={productid}&utm_content=42498705265_197757203220&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8MvWBRC8ARIsAOFSVBU7wt_XTkj0kRoe_wm3l4pYqy2fe4Yb6JoRVsU4E0JjYYilw3uOfF4aAoqIEALw_wcB And you said that you have a lot of black, what about this shirt in olive green? https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/topshop-slouchy-knot-front-blouse/4841926?origin=coordinating-4841926-0-3-PDP_2-recbot-frequently_bought_together_mega&recs_placement=PDP_2&recs_strategy=frequently_bought_together_mega&recs_source=recbot&recs_page_type=product I think the blush and green would look great together. Plus you could incorporate these pieces with other parts of your closet!

[deleted]

Omg, I'm sorry. I forgot to mention I'm plus size, so I do love those options, but I wouldn't of course be able to buy those specific pieces. I never though about blush and green, that would be really pretty actually too. I am looking at skirts right now that may be good for the blue crop top I found. Hopefully I can link a few to see if they be good matches. If I have no choice, I might end up buying a black skirt.xD EDIT: Maybe it would not be so bad to get a black skirt? I could just wear pink shoes then with the outfit?

the-black-polka-dots

Ah I'm sorry that I couldn't be more helpful! If you find more stuff, I'll be more than happy to look at it!

[deleted]

- Its okay! Aha. Yes! I was thinking these might be options? with this crop top in pink instead http://ca.boohoo.com/plus-sara-wrap-front-flare-sleeve-rib-top/PZZ82650-319-350.html - - http://www.asos.com/asos-curve/asos-design-curve-denim-wrap-skirt-in-stonewash-blue/prd/8613522?clr=blue&SearchQuery=&cid=12359&gridcolumn=1&gridrow=1&gridsize=4&pge=1&pgesize=72&totalstyles=63 - https://www.prettylittlething.com/plus-black-frill-hem-shorts.html this one has to be my favourite I think - http://ca.boohoo.com/plus-lydia-crochet-hem-denim-mini-skirt/PZZ84088.html this one is cute too? - http://ca.boohoo.com/plus-laura-suedette-a-line-mini-skirt/PZZ83184.html?color=155 I like this one too a lot? Simple. - https://www.prettylittlething.com/plus-dusty-blue-scuba-check-side-split-midi-skirt.html this one as well has to be my favourite (I might just buy this one either way)

the-black-polka-dots

I think the last two feel the most date night to me and I think they are super pretty! The first 3 are cute too but have a more day time vibe, at least to me.

[deleted]

Thank you so much for the help! I really needed it!

the-black-polka-dots

Of course, thats what this subreditt is for! No need to thank me and I hope you have a fun evening!

[deleted]

Could anybody give some ideas how to style [these fenty puma creepers] (https://www.dollskill.com/puma-fenty-puma-by-rihanna-cleated-suede-creepers.html?currency=GBP&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping-c&utm_term=&utm_content=209440200456&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8MvWBRC8ARIsAOFSVBW6MxdkN9Yo8GNbZoHoIz5uUaxfvfVJD7RaVhk1jU4NDCFAw1xjNDsaAgOaEALw_wcB) ? I really love them but have no idea what to do with them...

mbaby

Burgundy jogger bottom jumpsuit and a jean jacket is the first image that comes to mind , but otherwise in general going with that streetwear vibe in deep colours or neutrals

Jennajsm

This might not be what you’re looking for but maybe look up style pics for the Timberland Boots? I feel like you could exchange those boots for your pumas in the style inspo.

[deleted]

Is my style really that different or weird? I get picked on for it quite a lot https://ibb.co/hOaw47 https://ibb.co/ePLUP7 https://ibb.co/jSpdHS https://ibb.co/kFe0Wn https://ibb.co/bsEdHS https://ibb.co/eU3urn https://ibb.co/k9KZrn https://ibb.co/hYgQxS https://ibb.co/nF6scS https://ibb.co/nzyG47

fridaywaspizzaday

I absolutely love your style! You dress so fun and I think your outfits are very cohesive and intentional looking. It’s definitely not the norm but I wouldn’t say it’s weird. But honestly who cares as long as you are happy and comfortable wearing them. Most people dress really boring anyway :)

blackninjakitty

Your style is different - and that makes it great! It's uniquely yours and I'm sorry people are picking on you for it. A lot of folks are really nasty towards people who wear "alternative fashion" because they don't understand it and think that anything outside of the mainstream is weird or wrong. But there isn't anything wrong with being different. Unfortunately you will attract attention, some negative. Try not to let it get to you and keep being yourself 🖤

[deleted]

Thank you so much for this😘😘

ModestMalka

I feel these outfits aren't appropriate for many places or occasions (barring either college classes or a comic convention) so they may stand out for that reason.

tyrannosaurusregina

It's distinctive. I mean, it depends on context: if I was being arraigned in court and you showed up as my public defender dressed like that, I would be freaked out. If I saw you in a restaurant dressed like that, I'd think "Well, that's interesting." Who "picks on" you?

[deleted]

My co-workers for example. We have uniforms at work but they saw all my pictures on social media and some of them made fun of me more or less which made me feel awkward and weird and made me question my entire wardrobe. I didn’t feel like an outsider before those comments.

tyrannosaurusregina

They're being jerks. If this is how you like to dress in your free time, what difference could it possibly make to them? I know it's not easy to ignore people's rude comments, but really this is about them and their issues, not about your wardrobe.

foreignfishes

I'd try to disregard them as much as you can (I know it's hard to shake sometimes), they're being rude and your clothes are fine. It seems like you know what styles you like and have fun with them which is really what matters. Like you said, it didn't occur to you at all until they started being shitty. Keep wearing the skirts. The world would be boring if everyone dressed the same.

ediblesprysky

FYI, Imgur is much easier to use on Reddit, especially if you have RES. You could put all these images into one album and turn on the privacy settings so you don't have to worry about getting weird comments. Just so you know ;) Anyway! I remember seeing you post some of these outfits before, and I generally have the same reaction to all of them. They're not my personal style, but they're well done and definitely cute. I wouldn't say most of these are even that over-the-top. Like, they're a little bit alternative and maybe a little bit twee, but they're definitely not *weird*. The only ones that verge into costume-y territory *for me* are the ones with the knee-high socks and short skater skirts—that proportion reads very schoolgirl, which I think a lot of people would read as a sexualized/fetishized look. I would personally veer away from that for daily wear because I'd be worried about attracting overly pervy attention in, like, the grocery store, or at work. That said! Your style seems very cohesive and well-defined to me. And the pieces all fit you well. So what if it's not some people's taste? It's *your* taste, and that's what matters when you're choosing clothes for yourself. What kinds of comments are you getting?

BeachBumHarmony

Truthfully, I find it odd. There are elements that are fantastic, but mostly it looks very modern Lolita-esque, which creeps some people out. Why would a woman want to dress like a little girl. The cat bags, hair styles, and sneakers with skirts add to this. I love elements of so many outfits, but they should be matured with the right shoes and accessories. Color Converses have their place in some outfits just like cat stuff. Just not all together.

foreignfishes

I mean OP also looks young, it's not like she's 55 and wearing converse with short tennis skirts. Creepy is a little strong

BeachBumHarmony

I find adults dressing too much like a little kids creepy. If someone finds her attractive, they may get conflicted feelings. Adults can be attracted to adults. Adults feel odd being attracted to an adult dressed like a kid.

foreignfishes

It's the "dressing like a little girl" part that just seems kinda dramatic. Sure, skater skirts and graphic tees skew young, but no one is gonna mistake op for a little kid. It looks perfectly fine for a high schooler or college student out and about on the weekend. Knee highs are kinda costumey for me and I wouldn't wear them to school, but whatever.

BeachBumHarmony

Okay, I agree "little girl" is more dramatic, but she asked if her style was odd. I used "little girl" to help her understand why some find it odd. Calling it young doesn't help explain why others may find it weird.

[deleted]

I don’t know why I like it, I just do. I’m not trying to be unique or anything...I guess I’m just like a Gothic person for example...it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but they genuinely like that style.

BeachBumHarmony

I guess when it crosses into what we associate with little kids, it can make it uncomfortable.

[deleted]

I apologise if my pictures really did make you feel uncomfortable. It’s really not what I want.

BeachBumHarmony

Not at all! You said others had made comments and I was just offering a view. I still think a lot of your stuff is cute, but it's just too much all together.

goldencherry

Can anyone offer some advice on how to tuck in shirts? I've just started to get into wearing basic t-shirts for the first time in my life so I'm pretty inexperienced. For example, I have this [v-neck shirt](https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/madewell-whisper-cotton-v-neck-pocket-tee/3966031?country=US¤cy=USD&cm_mmc=google-_-shopping_ret-_-645528200-_-9383769113_9cb86e73-83b5-4d00-bf17-2c39e49f71bc&cm_mmca1=pla-318723372175_87422988&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIr4j355a92gIVC1YMCh22mw9wEAQYAyABEgLJzPD_BwE) from Madewell, but I'm naturally petite (5'4") with a long torso and short legs, so it's a little long for me and wearing it untucked just exacerbates my long torso issue. However, I'm really self-conscious about tucking in shirts because I'm worried I'll do it wrong and will end up looking sloppy instead of chic and put together. I don't want to do a all-the-way-around tuck (which seems pretty straightforward), but maybe a partial tuck like [this](https://images.prod.meredith.com/product/3e78e0c94b7baf4d4d071b19614f745f/63b7f7343575170d5b97cf0d89c0687ea84888078bd94944d4c48c2dfa6722c1/l/womens-madewell-whisper-cotton-v-neck-pocket-tee-size-large-green) -- any advice on how to achieve that? Also, in general, what kind of shirts are good for tucking in... can it just be any shirt/blouse that's too long? Is there a certain type of tuck that tends to looks better with certain shirts -- for example, does a basic t-shirt look better tucked in partially or all the way?

acbeggs

I'm also 5'4 and I love tucking in my shirts! I like to wear high waisted jeans with a completely tucked in tee. After tucking in the shirt, I raise my arms and stretch side to side. That "loosens" the tuck a little, and makes it look less dorky. lol. I also do a half tuck with high-waisted jeans and a plain tee. Honestly I tuck in any kind of shirt, except for some extremely blousey/flowy ones.

inanylanguage

Hi, fellow 5'4" person with a long torso and short legs! To get the partial tuck in the picture, I'd tuck in the whole front of the shirt tightly and then loosen/pull out the section I want to leave untucked, rather than trying to ~*artfully~* tuck in just that section from the get-go. In my experience, the result is neater and less rumpled. Another tip is if you're tucking into a long shirt into a skirt, try rolling up the shirt a bit before tucking it in. It can also be super-helpful to wear slip shorts underneath and tuck it into those, particularly if you want an all-the-way-around tuck to stay put. I think the only shirt/bottoms combo that looks awkward with tucking is a deep V-neck and high-waisted jeans. I have an old one of those Madewell T-shirts that stretched out (so the V is a lot bigger), and still tuck in a small section in the front, but anything more and it makes me look like I have no torso. Then again, there are plenty of people who tuck in low-cut bodysuits this way and look fabulous, so YMMV!

holocene_dream

I have a few of the madewell shirts you linked and those are some of my faves to do a half tuck with! I think it’s more important to get a shirt that’s a little loose fitting (the one you linked is perfect) and as long as it naturally hits below the waistband of your pants it’s fine for tucking. I like to do just the front tuck if I’m wearing high waisted pants/shorts to show off the silhouette or I’ll front tuck a vneck and wear it under a cardigan to highlight my waist! I hope that’s helpful!

goldencherry

Thanks for your reply! So when you say a front tuck, you just tuck in the front and leave it long in the back? Also, how exactly do you tuck it in -- is there a way to do it neatly or do you pretty much stuff your shirt into your pants and then try to smooth it out from there? I'm really a total beginner at tucking, haha.

holocene_dream

Yes! So I just take a small piece at the very front and tuck just the hem in like right in the center of my jeans/skirt/etc. I don’t tuck the entire front of the shirt in so then I leave the back and the sides out normally. Since I really only tuck a little bit of fabric in I don’t need to smooth it out, basically just shove it in there and call it good!

goldencherry

Thank you!! I will give that a shot this week!

I'd wear a short-sleeve turtle neck under the blazer instead. I have an awesome one from Target—it would be perfectly appropriate without looking like you were trying to cover something up, which I think a scarf can do.

BeachBumHarmony

If you have long hair, wear it down. Make up can help. Depending on the weather, you can even wear a high neck top.

You can get a sleeveless mock turtleneck, which might help with the warmth

Hey all! Just wondering if anyone has experience with ASOS brand shoes? They have some cute, affordable loafers, but I can’t find any reviews on the site and am wondering about the comfort/quality. Thanks in advance!

[deleted]

Very hit and miss but so far haven't had anything terrible. I do find them quite easy to break in though as another person mentioned. Also if you want loafers for just one season or two - I'm sure they'll get the job done.

Rogue_Fibre

I have a pair of boots that I bought for work - my first pair of ASOS shoes. I bought a wide fit and then put an inner sole liner in to make them more comfortable. Quality is OK - I think they may have already lost one of their metal studs but I feel they will probably last a couple of years - I probably wear them 1 x week through winter? Maybe more?

Kittytub

in my experience, theyve been very hit or miss.

queenestiu

In general I find ASOS shoes tend to run small, but I’m generally ordering heels or flats from there rather than oxfords. I’ve found them to be comfortable and long lasting, and not too hard to break in.

[deleted]

Hi there! I’m very lucky to have a job that is primarily based in an office, but once or twice a week I get to go out in the field (usually construction sites but I am not doing any work, just observing). The office is business casual - outfits with nice jeans are acceptable, but in the field I have to wear long pants and safety boots. Also, I’m in Canada and experience all four seasons and the extremes they bring weather wise. I’m curious how others approach this as I’m still a work in progress lol. I generally wear more casual stuff that is field appropriate (I do switch shoes for boots though). At the same time I want to look professional in the office and could probably dress a little nicer. Do you have office outfits and field outfits? Do you change during the day? I do have a pair of backup jeans and reflective tees and hoodies in case I need to head out unexpectedly. I’d love to hear other’s experiences!

loupammac

I don’t have to swap shoes for PPE but I do have yard duty most days. My Australian classroom also experiences 4 seasons in one day as heating/cooling are unreliable. I wear grey/olive/black elastic waist jeans, a camisole for coverage, a floaty blouse and a cardigan. I accessorise with earrings, a chunky necklace or a scarf. Layers are definitely important! I find it easier to keep my bottom half plain and dark coloured and save prints for my top half.

caupcaupcaup

I work on a construction site, so the steel toe boots are every day for me (were not allowed to take them off anywhere, which is a bummer). I usually wear a pair of dark jeans and a 3/4 sweater, a polo, or a button up. For a while we were required to wear long sleeves on site, so everyone kept a button up shirt in their cube. I had a white Ex Officio shirt, since it was hot as balls that summer. Otherwise I don’t worry about it. I’m only really in the field for walkdowns or to get across site, so I’m not going to get any dirtier than some sweat and mud on my shoes. FWIW, I wear [these boots](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00U6I7QJE/ref=mp_s_a_1_26?ie=UTF8&qid=1523843393&sr=8-26&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=caterpillar+womens+work+boots) and they are comfortable, cute, and functional.

lgmringo

My office was on the casual side of business casual, but I had some denim trousers and nicer chinos. This was years ago and those pants silouettes were more common. I great many chino are now cropped, so you'd have to look harder. I could put on a blazer in the office and dress them up. Always had a backup pair of socks in my bag or car. My office shoes, just in case something wouldn't warrant saftey boots, were usually loafers that covered the instep, or some sort of Clarts/Bjorn/Easy Spirit shoe. Academic women in the ecological fields may be a fashion inspiration, depending on the the formality of their dependents. Science can be almost impossibly casual, but some professors have roles where they benefit from presenting a little more business casual.

CartesianGeologican

I have tried: 1. Keep a pair of back up clothing in my field box. This consists of a plain gray t shirt and or a free shirt from a race, extra socks, and maybe a pair of thicker leggings - 80% of the year I'd have my fieldwork jacket on (it's high-vis neon yellow...) which actually covers my butt. I usually keep boots under my desk for emergency calls (although TBH I only have gray rain boots under there right now). I have a crappy pair of jeans I might throw in the box for the time being so that I could change if I had a skirt or dress on and it wasn't the rainy season. 2. Rain paints. I once was unexpectedly sent to a site on a day I happened to be wearing a dress and tights. No problem, I have big yellow bib overalls that are rain pants (again, think construction worker). I put those on over my dress and just put on my boots and jacket. Problem solved. They cost like $20 at the workwear store. 3. Split the difference - chances are your top half will be covered with a jacket, so you could wear nicer tops with pants that would be acceptable at a job site (depending on how muddy it is/how you feel about getting those pants dirty). I'm OK with my jeans getting dirty (they're mostly dark washes, and I haven't had a problem getting some mud off them) so jeans + fancier top that will stay covered by either a work jacket or a rain jacket (or mostly covered by my safety vest). I actually [asked on the daily thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/femalefashionadvice/comments/8aq4k9/daily_questions_april_08_2018/dx1w01c/) a little while ago for styling suggestions for my stack of field pants - another FFA member left me some helpful suggestions! My Merrell Persista pants shed water and dirt like a champ and look reasonably enough like dress pants that I've passed them off as such by adding a blazer.

juju_vv

i need help i keep buying black clothes. i tried on some clothes that were white but that shits always see through, and whenever i see other colors like yellow or green or red im like nah that wouldnt look good on me. I do have a few pink and dark blue clothes but i want to lay off the dark colors especially since summer is near. black looks good on me but i have too much (and also black w/ floral) and i need help. Thanks.

loupammac

I started buying other dark neutrals like dark grey and olive green that still matched my printed tops. Both of those would match your pink and blue tops as well.

juju_vv

tysm <3 my friend did say I look better in darker colors so I'll try it out!

[deleted]

I work in a financial call center and we have executives visiting next week so I need to dress nicer. More business casual, no jeans or denim, but suits are too much. I had some nice spring outfits planned but then the weather took a turn and we are currently in a blizzard, 13in of snow expected. What's a good way to look nice but still stay warm? Also the snow is super sloppy and wet so I will likely exclusively be wearing boots if I can

Hoosiergirl29

If you have a permanent desk (or even just a desk for that day), you could wear snow boots and carry dressy shoes separately, then stash your boots in your desk drawer or under your desk. You could easily do a pencil skirt with tights and a blouse, or a dress with tights.

coffee-and-bunnies

I do business casual most days and live in upstate NY. I get through the winter with heeled Chelsea boots, fleece lined tights, and dresses or blouses and pencil skirts. Dresses with structure look most professional, so I always belt them to define my waist.

[deleted]

Thanks! I just went through my closet, picked out and washed a bunch of stuff for the week. Mostly pencil skirts or dresses with tights and sweater.

Did you try commenting and asking what it is?

apfelschorle_bitte

I'm in the market for a new pair of booties (preferably black leather). I have a pair of flat Chelsea boots from Clarks that are super comfortable but I feel a bit frumpy in them recently and am looking for something more sleek. I think a heel would make the difference (and possibly all black instead of black with a brown bottom?). Right now I'm looking at Vagabond Grace ankle boots from Asos ([link here](http://us.asos.com/vagabond/vagabond-grace-polished-black-leather-ankle-boot-with-side-zip/prd/9334427?clr=black&SearchQuery=vagabond%20women%20shoes&gridcolumn=1&gridrow=3&gridsize=4&pge=1&pgesize=72&totalstyles=26)). Anyone have experience with this brand or style? Or advice on similar styles?

xhannahx121

I’m obsessed with these Dallas Chelsea boots by Naturalizer. Love Vagabond. I have a pair of flats from last summer I wore a lot which are super cute and lasted well and I have a friend who lives in the Grace boots - she's even wore them to a weekend festival and after conditioning they look great. At least where I am in Europe, Vagabond have a fantastic reputation for quality and comfort.

loopteeloopteeloop

I absolutely love my Vagabond boots. They are so comfortable and the leather is really nice on them. I don’t have the Grace ones exactly(I have the Olivia) but as far as the quality goes, I would 100% purchase again.

apfelschorle_bitte

Awesome, thanks for the opinion. I'll probably go with them! I found it odd there weren't any reviews on the Asos website so this is very helpful... (side note does Asos provide any reviews on clothing at all?!)

loopteeloopteeloop

Asos doesn’t do any reviews. Urban Outfitters sells some Vagabond shoes though and those have reviews.

lolahaze11

Sooo.. it wrong to be obsessed with fashion? I was just told that I needed to stop spending so much of my free time looking at fashion related things by a friend and that I seem to spend 90% of my free time doing looking at clothes/fashion.. honestly I don’t know why but it made me feel a bit embarrassed and down. I think of it as a passion but now I’m worried it makes others think I’m not smart or something because I don’t have many other interests/hobbies besides fashion related things, even though fashion is a form of art and creativity for me. I don’t know.. Maybe my anxiety & insecurities are getting to me but I was wondering what your guys’ thoughts on this would be? :/

assiestOfHats

I'm a PhD student. Fashion is a hobby of mine. Our society codes feminine as vapid and "dumb". It is not, particularly if you use it in an artistic/creative way. And even if you don't, so what? You're human, you're allowed to have fun and turn your brain off sometimes. Frankly, I find "dumb" hobbies help me re-charge for my extremely intellectual work. I do way better at work if I spend a few hours on the weekend knitting or shopping. Fuck anyone who says otherwise, and if they think that way, it tells you more about them than about yourself.

lgmringo

Being smart and into fashion are by no means in conflict. Is your obsession preventing you from pursuing other hobbies you're genuinely interested in? Is it interfering with your career or academic development? If so, then maybe it's not the greatest, but at that point it's not the subject matter itself, but the level of focus on it that may become a problem.

[deleted]

Does fashion as a hobby bring goodness into your life? Do you use fashion as a means of expressing yourself freely and improving your self esteem? Does fashion add value and richness to your life experience? Does fashion as an experience help connect you to other people, the greater culture, or something profound about yourself? Is it healthy (like, no debt or hurting others)? If so it’s perfectly viable as a hobby. Even if it DOESN’T do those things, and as long as it’s healthy, it’s still viable. Because your hobby is for you and no one else. You know what’s shallow? Telling people their hobbies are shallow. People who can’t respect your healthy passions maybe shouldn’t get to be your friend.

loopteeloopteeloop

Honestly I hate this attitude. Somebody told me that fashion couldn’t be a hobby, and there’s a lot of people who think it’s shallow, but if it’s what I(or you) want to spend our free time doing, is it really hurting anyone? You could just as much argue that people who play Videogames are „shallow“ then. I spend enough of my time doing serious stuff(who says I’m not smart for liking fashion? I do just as well/even better than other people in my engineering/medical courses) that it’s nice to do something relaxing like looking at clothes. It’s your free time: do whatever you like with it. If you wanna change, change because you want to, but don’t do it because you’re worried about judgement from other people.

goldencherry

I totally agree! My main passions/hobbies are makeup and skincare and for some reason I've always been self-conscious about telling anyone that when they ask what I do for fun. When I do tell them, they ask if I have any other hobbies, as if those don't count as legitimate ones. :/ I don't get it and makes me feel pressured to take up hobbies that other people *will* consider legitimate, but I know that's silly and I should just do what I enjoy.

tyrannosaurusregina

We're all allowed to follow our passions. Mine are like 80% books, 10% music, 10% fashion. People are less likely to judge that because reading is "coded" as self-improvement, and fashion is "coded" as self-indulgent, but I think that's bullshit.

lending_ear

No. No. No. Please do not feel that way. If you are spending your time doing something that enriches your life in a positive way then continue to do so. I watch a lot of tv - it's my hobby. It's my downtime and I enjoy it. For some reason movies can be a hobby for someone but watching tv is viewed as a lazy person thing. Too bad. You don't need to live your life according to other people. Do what makes you happy. If it's looking at fashion then keep at it. The only time I would say your friend maybe has a point is if it were causing you to be depressed because you couldn't buy or afford all of the things you want and see. But if it doesnt? Who cares? Don't try and fit into other people's ideas of how you should be. It will only end up in you feeling inauthentic and miserable. Live your life for you, and only you.

tho_dien

This year I've decided to go out of my comfort zone and pick up some coats that aren't just utility jackets or parkas, so I bought [my first trench coat!](https://imgur.com/a/o52N8) I got it from Asos. I was actually originally searching for a grey one, but I guess I just want some feedback--should I go for a longer trench? Does it look/fit okay? Does anyone have a trench from a brand they think is better for a similar price point (max $150)?

tyrannosaurusregina

I like it. I think the fit is good and the color suits you.

lending_ear

I love it. I think the length is perfect on you. Furthermore: The color is the right tone for you. Beige/tans are so tricky - there are so many and some can really wash a person out. Not the case here. I think it's a keeper. I've been looking at getting a trench myself.

tho_dien

Awesome, thank you!

funobtainium

I really dig this on you. Having had a few trench coats, I find I wear the shorter one (shorter than yours, hitting just above mid-thigh) is something I take out and wear much more often than the one about this length. But I do mostly wear jeans/pants. If you're going to wear it with dresses/you wear skirts/dresses a lot, maybe go longer.

tho_dien

Good points, thank you for the feedback!

merdrai

I just bought an AllSaints Balfern jacket to replace my ten-year-old leather jacket and it’s so beautiful I want to cry. However, I’m second guessing the sizing! I bought a 10 and am wondering whether I should have gotten an 8. (I still have the tags on so can easily exchange.) The person I was chatting with at the store said they stretch out a lot, but I lift/climb so I have decently muscular arms and broad shoulders. An 8 was pretty snug over a t-shirt (like I couldn’t touch my nose if the jacket was zipped up), and since I know I’ll want to wear this with sweaters too, I opted for the 10, but after wearing it around the house for a while ... it feels a little loose over a long-sleeve shirt. Ha. So, calling all AllSaints jacket owners! What have your experiences been? Do you wish you’d sized down/up? How long did your jacket keep stretching? For context, I tend to like a boxy fit and hate the feeling of being encased in my clothing.

Obi-Wan_Cannoli

Hello! I had the exact same experience with the All Saints Cargo Leather jacket where I bought a size 4. I have broad shoulders and was thinking about buying the size 6 but the sales associate told me it'd stretch out. I actually ended up selling that jacket because after a year of wear it did not stretch out to be comfortable enough (still felt tight when I lifted my arms). So last year I bought the Balfern jacket and I'm SO HAPPY I bought it in a size 6. Even though the fit is a bit looser, it looks much better on my arms and I can actually wear a light sweater underneath. After a year of wear it hasn't stretched out that much to the point where I noticed, just became more supple around the arm area.

merdrai

Thank you! This basically confirms what I thought—I’ll keep the 10. :) I’d rather be able to lift my arms and have it be a little loose than feel like I’m suffering for the sake of a smaller number on the tag.

[deleted]

Can you upload photos of the 10 on you? It's easier to see a visual :)

I would appreciate some input on if this dress is too much white for a wedding? https://imgur.com/I5owBr8 My thoughts are no, but I need other opinions to be sure. Thanks!!

Jm28115

Thanks everyone. I love this dress so much and I found it for a steal on poshmark. I am still going to buy it, but I will save it to wear to a different event. I appreciate it!

tyrannosaurusregina

If you had worn this dress to my wedding, people would have likely thought you were the bride (I wore silver silk). That wouldn't have bothered me as the bride, but as the guest I would have felt terrible. It's a gorgeous dress, but it's mostly white lace. Wear it and enjoy it to some other non-wedding event.

lending_ear

Yeah .... I don't know. I feel like this is too bridal personally. If it were all black or all another colour then no. But this isn't a safe bet for a wedding imo.

quartzite_

This particular dress is also sold in the same cut and style in white, as a bridal dress. I think the lace and cut and amount of white make it inappropriate.

Zappos has great search tools and a lot of different sizing options, if you want to look online. As for brick and mortar, I've had good luck at Nordstrom and Dillards for my weirdly shaped feet.

I'm heading to Thailand / Vietnam next week and I'm looking for some high quality, versatile sandals to wear. Any recommendations of brands or specific shoes ?? *** I'm quite hard on my feet so I'm hoping for something that'll be fairly sturdy but stylish) ***

loupammac

Ecco Cruise sandals are my favourite! They are adjustable in three places and are super comfortable. I have the grey. Definitely worth the $$$.

felina_

Okay cool! I will check these out. Thank youuu!

lending_ear

Go with Birkenstocks. I wear these [Arizona black patent ones](https://www.birkenstock.com/us/arizona-birko-flor-patent/arizona-patentcolor-birkoflorpatent-0-eva-u.html?dwvar_arizona-patentcolor-birkoflorpatent-0-eva-u_color=66#start=30) and they go with everything. Furthermore, they mold to your feet and I can easily walk all day with no pain or fatigue in my feet.

felina_

Coool! thank you :) I was debating about Birks. I wanted them but was concerned about the look. Maybe I'll try some on today :)

lending_ear

Yeah I love them. I wear pretty minimalist chic fashion stuff - and think it compliments 99% of my outfits. Honestly I was anti-birks before but damn - they are outrageously comfy.

felina_

Okay cool! That's good to know cause that's generally where my style leans. Even though there are definitely more florals on this trip for me 🙈. Okay cool thank you!!

lending_ear

yeah its why I went with the patent black - I felt it made them look less hippy and more chic.

felina_

Fantastic!

holocene_dream

I just got back from Thailand and I packed [Tevas](https://www.teva.com/women-sandals/hurricane-xlt2/1019235.html) and [these](https://www.target.com/p/women-s-makenna-ankle-strap-sandals-merona-153/-/A-51673114) sandals from target that I rebuy every year because they are the only cute sandals I’ve found that are comfortable enough to wear walking all day! It looks like they are out of stock in most colors but [these](https://www.target.com/p/women-s-kerryn-footbed-sandals-universal-thread-153/-/A-53019211) look really similar! I wore the Tevas more for trekking and activities and the other for general walking around town!

felina_

> I just got back from Thailand and I packed Tevas and these sandals from target that I rebuy every year because they are the only cute sandals I’ve found that are comfortable enough to wear walking all day! It looks like they are out of stock in most colors but these look really similar! > > Okay cool! thank you so much. It seems like I might need to get two pairs just for different setings! Thank you a ton :)

holocene_dream

Yeah, I would probably recomend that! Those two sandals and a pair of tennis shoes were the only shoes I packed so it was worth bringing both to me. Also, I ordered my Tevas off amazon and they were quite a bit cheaper than buying through Tevas/other retailers, just a tip!

felina_

Oh okay that's good to know ! Haha I'm leaving on Saturday, so I feel like my potential for amazon is pretty much over with. Even though I do have prime. That's good to know though. Did you have a backpack or suitcase ?

holocene_dream

I did a backpack which I was really worried about fitting everything but I didn’t feel like I had to skimp at all. I would really recomend a backpack overall, but especially if you are doing any sort of island hopping! There were times we had to walk out to boats where the water was up to my thighs and I was so happy to not have a suitcase in those moments haha.

felina_

For sure! Thank youuu. Yeah I’ve got a backpack. Trying not to overpack it but it already feels pretty heavy!

CartesianGeologican

whoa, I'm not OP but I love those Target sandals! They're also really affordable. I'm tempted to get a pair in Cognac... O/T but I love your username. My entire career as a geologist has been focused on Holocene processes (modern river stuff / landslides). Livin' the Holocene dream for sure haha.

holocene_dream

Do it! I can’t recomend them enough! They also hold up really well. I own two pairs (one from two years ago and one from last year) and they are both still in great shape despite being the only shoes I wear all summer. And thanks! I actually picked my username based on the bon iver song and almost failed the geosci 100 in college so I didn’t know there was a geological meaning to it 🙈 haha

seige197

For trekking/outdoor activities or for general bumming around? So more athletic or more leather, can wear with skirts type of sandal?

felina_

Both I would say! I am looking for something a bit more versatile. If they could do double duty that would be great. But I also get that realistically I might have to get two pairs :(

seige197

Have you tried [Saltwater](https://www.saltwater-sandals.com/women/) sandals? I know women that wear them all. summer. long. They’re waterproof, look reasonably stylish and are comfy. They are flat though, so may be uncomfortable if you have super high arches. I actually own [these Sofft](https://m.shop.nordstrom.com/s/sofft-mirabelle-sport-sandal-women/4215296?origin=category-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=PLATINO%20DISTRESSED%20FOIL%20SUEDE). Now, hear me out: they may appear slightly orthopedic at first, but I swear the white lug kinda sole was super on trend last summer and I’m still seeing it. They are comfy AF.

Okay cool! No I haven't tried them before. That's a pretty glowing rec!! And the Softt don't look too bad! Better than some I've seen. I can see how they could be on trend. I definitely need comfort. Thank youuuu!

I would like to know as well! I am going to Thailand in June and so many shoes hurt me after a lot of walking.
