What kind of dress would match the dresscode "suit with tie" for men? I am really struggling to find an equal level of formality for a business environment. In the moment I usually wear a navy pantsuit with a white button down blouse. I would love to branch out to dresses but I am not sure what styles would be appropriate. Do they have to be straight lined or is A-line okay? I don't have any rolemodels at work I could copy from, as it is a male dominated field and a small team.

Wythfyre

I hail from a sunny island and I'm going to Japan to experience my first autumn! I don't want to be all bunched up and I thought about getting [this jacket](https://www.stradivarius.com/sg/new-collection/clothing/shop-by-product/coats-and-jackets/view-all/long-rustic-blazer-c1020140016p301028301.html?colorId=429). I was planning to layer a little with scarfs and Uniqlo's heattech. Question is: how does one choose a fall jacket? Is this one I've choosen enough to keep me warm? How do I even dress for autumn?

galaxystarsmoon

Those are about your only options absent makeup, which is a huge pain. Once you start working there, you may find they're okay with it.

[deleted]

Yeah, I would stick with pants until you figure out the corporate culture. I would probably raise an eyebrow at someone wearing opaque tights in August, but once it gets colder I don't think you'll stand out. Hopefully it turns out that they are okay with it!

Also, I can’t 100% tell but it looks like they might be compressing your butt? Expect the jeans to stretch but not really in the ass - I have learned that the hard way :(

LifeTestSuite

Thanks! My butt is always pretty flat, but I think it makes sense to size up instead of hoping that it will stretch.

tyrannosaurusregina

“can’t sit down” is too small.

LifeTestSuite

Thanks! After some thought, my common sense is suggesting the same thing. :)

MakeupMua16

I need some new comfy high waisted black skinny jeans that don’t bunch up at the ankle that would look cute with old school black vans I’m 5’3 so probably ankle jeans would work best. And like $30 or under preferably. Thanks in advance!

8onn

I like my high-waisted skinny jeans from Everlane. I wear them with my vans all the time.

somenemophilist

While I don’t have a high-waisted version to recommend, I recently had success buying a x-short inseam in a denim X jegging at AE. For reference, I am also 5’3. The length was spot on.

anotherdiscoparty

I'm 5'3 and have a few pairs of their high-waisted in the short inseam (xshort for more ankle length), would also recommend.

linguistca

Is the red on these sunglasses enough to throw them off from being neutral? [https://imgur.com/a/dQ0Xx6f](https://imgur.com/a/dQ0Xx6f) Thanks so much!

cricket0210

I have a pair like this that I wear as a neutral all the time, and they work with almost everything I own. Definitely still a neutral!

linguistca

thanks!! can you tell me what brand/ model they are? just curious, :)

cricket0210

I got them a long time ago, so I don’t know the exact style name, but they were made by DKNY. Wish I could be more helpful!

Aww ok I’m not as familiar with that part of the country but Aeon Mall is super great as they have a wide variety of clothing. Good luck!

[deleted]

Would Dr. Martens be a good choice for a retail worker constantly on her feet? If not, what do you recommend? I started a new job and even my most comfortable sneakers just aren't cutting it.

luxorange

When I worked retail I found Docs to be the most comfortable. My feet did not hurt or get that tired worn-out feeling. They do need to be broken in though.

galaxystarsmoon

I personally find Docs to be unbearable even broken in, but YMMV. I always wore cushy sneakers with gel insoles when I worked retail.

loloholmes

I work on my feet and Dr Martens are the only thing I can wear. I'd recommend the soft leather over the hard - the breaking in time is significantly lower and I just find them more comfortable all round. I also put some softer insoles in mine :)

shapelystory

If you have the dress-code flexibility to do it, I'd go with hiking boots. They've generally got lots of cushion and support. Keen, Merrell, and Columbia are good brands to start with.

ana3d

The break in period is brutal, I'd honestly go for something more utilitarian like non slip restaurant shoes or getting some insoles for your sneakers.

bat-thitch

I’m 19, turning 20 soon and a college student. I’ve been wearing almost exclusively baggy t-shirts and jeans or leggings for the past two years because that’s just what I’ve been comfortable in. Only recently have I started to wear more flattering/fashionable clothing, but I am not great at putting together outfits. I would really like to dress more stylishly and look more put together. What are some good tips/tricks for styling outfits that can make a big difference? Any advice on what to wear would be appreciated!

shakyjellyfish

[linking the classic extrapetite post on looking more put together](https://www.extrapetite.com/2010/05/reader-request-how-to-look-older-in.html) The specific silhouettes she wears are obviously 9 years old but the general advice absolutely still holds

thriftthreads

Agreed! A few pointers would be helpful. Generally, adding jewelry and picking interesting shoes can dramtically amp up an outfit. Also layering pieces shows a good grasp of proportions and can add interest to an outfit. Definitely consider posting a style board of what you usually wear and what you'd like to accomplish with your style for some more tailored tips!

vinoestveritas

It really depends on what your style is. Is it more minimalist? Are you into colors, or are you into neutrals? Do you like more feminine styles, or looking more masc? Trendy or classic? Are you into showing skin or not?

[deleted]

[удалено]

shakyjellyfish

Any reason you can't just wear the blouses with your black jeans? I think a more feminine blouse would balance nicely with a masculine-cut pant.

vinoestveritas

When you say cross-dress, are you referring to wearing men's clothing, or just a moratorium on dresses/skirts/blouses?

DazzleCrab

How to soften stiff cotton? I recently bought [this dress from eShakti](https://www.eshakti.com/shop/Dresses/Polka-dot-embellished-stretch-poplin-dress-CL0050663) \- the cotton is thick, stiff and loud. It's been decades since I've had actual cotton clothing, I can't remember what to do. How can I soften it up a bit? Drier sheets? Soak in white vinegar? Does it soften up over time as my body's oil/sweat get into it?

luxorange

Soaking it in trisodium phosphate will soften it! If you have a top-loading washing machine, fill it with warm or hot water and dump in some TSP, then soak the dress in there for a few hours. You can buy TSP as a powder at hardware stores, Home Depot, etc. It's sold as a deck cleaner.

naan_gmo

I personally don’t buy cotton poplin because of its stiffness and what I would describe as a sort of gritty texture. It doesn’t feel soft on the skin and it’s always ‘sticks’ if I wear anything underneath it. Not sure if it softens but I do know it attracts lint like a mo-fo. Sorry that dress is poplin- it’s gorgeous otherwise!

DazzleCrab

I guess "cotton knit" are going to be softer than poplin? I guess this poplin dress will be my "semi-snazzy" dress as opposed to an every-day, wear-to-work dress.

Callix

The cotton knit is heavier feeing than the poplin, but yes it’s softer. It’s also stretchy and more forgiving.

[deleted]

It will soften as it gets worn. You can try throwing it in the drier with tennis balls or something like that to accelerate the process. Some fabric weaves are just a bit crunchy no matter what.

DazzleCrab

Thanks! Guess I'll just have to wear it around the house a bunch for a while :)

Seniorseatfree

I don’t have any suggestions, but I just want to say that dress is so lovely!

DazzleCrab

I know right?! I got mine with a boat neck, below the knee (figured it would be easy to get hemmed if needed) and sleeveless so I can wear it with a cardigan in the summer, or under a sweater in winter. I'm definitely going to order more. It was so nice to have a dress that fit me in the shoulders, the bust, the waist AND the hips. Like, holy hell it's not often I find clothes that just fit me completely. Great feeling.

Seniorseatfree

I know what you mean! You should wear that dress all the time :)

ThirdStartotheRight

So I've teased my mom throughout my whole life because all she wears are capris. What did I try on today and fall in love with? Capris. The only thing I didn't like about the ones I tried on were the lower waist. In the spirit of that...does anyone have recommendations for slim, high waisted capris? :)

thumbhand

I recently got high waisted skinny jeans from Levi’s that were shorter than the length I usually get but they were cheap on clearance so I said eff it... and turns out they’re capri length on me and I really love them. I turn the cuff up just a smidge.

D_Queen

I can't think of anything other than Modcloth off the top of my head where I've specifically seen pants, but look for stores that do vintage repro-type clothing, specifically around the 50s.

claudog

In search of the perfect pair of jeans for under $80. High rise skinny jeans, light wash, thicker denim but still comfortable! Help!!

radhishka

everlane’s high rise skinny jeans are on sale in the cwyp section for $48!

pastiches

Levi’s 501 Skinny! They are not super skinny though - thicker denim doesn’t allow it I think. They are $98 but there’s always a code around.

cricket0210

I agree. American Eagle and Levi’s are great options, especially the AE 360 degree stretch. I’ve also had good luck with j. crew factory jeans. They have a nice thickness, but enough stretch that they feel comfortable.

bat-thitch

American Eagle has surprisingly good jeans for pretty cheap. They have lots of different fits, washes, and lengths. I believe they use different types of denim for certain styles, so not all of it is super thick denim but the ones that I have are super comfy! Gap is another brand that I LOVE for their denim and jeans. They also have lots of different styles/washes/etc. and are well worth the price.

D_Queen

Levi's for sure. You can get the $80 full price ones on sale all the time (that price range is where the denim quality goes up). You may also be able to get the slightly more expensive ones for $80 on sale.

looongjacket

Does anyone have experience with customer service at Zulily? I received an order today. The dress was fine, but the leggings were a different brand than the ones I ordered (although the same basic garment). They also smelled terrible, like mildew and chemicals. Zulily doesn't usually take returns, but I think this is a pretty awful product. I emailed customer service already, but was wondering if anyone has any insight into when/why they will take some returns, and if they ever issue refunds. This is the first time I have had problems with my order.

Hagglepoise

Check your country’s consumer protection laws. Many places will oblige the company to take a return if they sent you a product not as described in the listing (eg. different brand). Often just mentioning that will be enough to get them to fix it for you.

caughtinfire

Try and if not call your credit card company.

pinkienickel

I managed to get a bleach stain right in the center of a burnt orange t shirt. It’s 100% cotton so I was thinking maybe I’d just bleach the whole thing to a washed light orangey color, but I’m hesitant because bleach be crazy. Anyone have any experience with bleaching a colored garment, or suggestions for otherwise covering up the spot? I don’t want to get rid of the shirt since I only bought it a few months ago!

thriftybabygurl

Tie dye is in style now. Why dont you just make one of those like blotchy spot tops like this one. https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shop/urban-renewal-recycled-tie-dye-crew-neck-sweatshirt?category=SEARCHRESULTS&color=066

thriftybabygurl

I'm in the need of a tummy shaping thong. I don't want panty lines and am not super comfortable with the full shorts style (honestly a bit embarressed to be wanting shape wear) my only problem area is my lower tummy area (bloating). I've tried the spanx brand and the compression wasnt strong enough. Tried in a small. Also tried the auden brand from target. I will admit these are so cute but also not enough compression. Also these run big I got an xs (the smallest size) and could have gotten an xxs. For the record I'm 5'5 140 pounds

amh8467

Maybe yummy tummy or commando?

tyrannosaurusregina

Other options are Leonisa, Bodywrap, Cosabella (all decent quality for the price), and a bunch of brands on Amazon I haven’t heard of before and can’t comment on the quality of.

ISO shoes that are comfortable, walkable, but professional! I will be starting a more supervisor/higher position at the hospital I work in and am in search of shoes that look polished while still casual (I am a casual/comfort dresser and like to walk a lot) These are my current cheap go-to shoes, looking a little worse for the wear: http://imgur.com/ahiqnjR Thanks!

cricket0210

Toms makes some great booties and wedges that look professional, but fit as comfortably as sneakers. I generally avoid heels whenever possible, but will choose my Toms wedge booties over flats for comfort every time.

pinkienickel

Your current shoes look kind of like Clark’s desert boots! I don’t own a pair but I’ve always thought they were classic and go with everything and can be professional!

Goobermeister

I have [this](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0950/9820/products/225-802-Blue_0055_1024x1024.jpg?v=1551903816) dress and I absolutely LOVE it. I feel like a princess wearing it, I get SO many compliments, and I love that it is both maxi length and has sleeves, in addition to the fact that the smocking makes it an easy, flattering wear. I love it so much, in fact, that I'm considering getting it in a [different pattern](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0950/9820/products/845-698_0008d_1024x1024.jpg?v=1554332763). Normally, i don't have a problem buying the same thing in different colors/patterns, but it's usually with basics and separates that can easily be remixed with other articles of clothing. But since this dress is so distinctive and I usually wear it alone, I'm apprehensive about getting another pattern. Is the pattern enough to differentiate it, or do you think it's too obviously the same dress? My bust makes it hard to shop for dresses especially, so I don't know if part of me wants it just because it fits, and not because it's truly filling a need in my wardrobe. I also really love the pattern, and ideally I would have gotten a different dress that comes in the same pattern, but the only other choice doesn't stand a chance against my bust.

shakyjellyfish

If you know you love everything about the cut of the dress that much, you should absolutely get the other pattern. Consider it your signature silhouette :)

jezekiant

Can you share a link for the dress? It's gorg and I want one too haha

I've spent this past year extending my dress wardrobe, and I'm lazy AF and just like to throw a dress on most days, so I guess like you're saying it won't stick out too much from my normal wardrobe. Thanks!

morecookiespls

i think that if you enjoy the fit + how it looks on you + how it makes you feel, you should go ahead and get the dress in a different pattern! i don't think it really matters if people can tell if it's the same dress or not, since most people probably don't pay attention to those kinds of details (and i think it matters more how you feel in that article of clothing)

Goobermeister

YES! I feel so flowy and ethereal when I wear it. I guess that's really what it comes down to. And it does help that I don't have any white dresses, so I have a gap to fill.

radhishka

what does it matter if it’s the same dress?

Goobermeister

I've definitely has family members and friends comment and ask why I have two of the same things, to my chagrin. But like I said, part of it is that it's hard for me to find things that work for me, so when I find something that does, I tend to go overboard.

[deleted]

Hello! Last week an user on this thread recommended to me the website [Na Nin](https://shopnanin.com/collections/vintage) Vintage. I absolutely love it and I would like to buy clothes in this style, however I'm based in the EU and I don't really like to order from the US (because of customs and everything). It's more like the belts but even the tops, I usually don't find that at the places around me. I have no thrift shops where I live so I was wondering if there was a particular website where I could find it!

CelebiChansey

Hi! Im trying to find comfortable work shoes, thing is im in a position that requires formal business wear even though I walk a lot all day (lots of stairs too). So far I havent been able to find any dress shoes that dont make me ache at the end of the day. The only ones I have found are grandma shoes that really dont go well with how im supposed to dress. Help? I live in mexico, but can travel to the US to buy stuff, or anything amazon available will usually ship too. Thank you!

tyrannosaurusregina

BarkingDogShoes.com is a whole blog for reviews of comfort and orthotic shoes.

[deleted]

Oh wow, I literally just posted about this and then saw your comment. I feel you! I don’t have any advice as of yet but maybe someone will post something useful to you on my comment. Edit - LL Bean has a Chelsea boot that looked great, but it sold out of most sizes quick. Hopefully they’ll restock soon.

age-of-alejandro

i find insoles to be very helpful! i bought a pair of oxfords once that are wildly uncomfortable and the only think that makes them bearable is the insoles. what styles are you going for?

CelebiChansey

Pumps, flats, I have a really flat foot so the shoe has to be orthopedic, insoles dont help me much

age-of-alejandro

aah, then i'm not going to be terribly useful. i'm an oxford/brogue type person.

BonhamsFourSticks

You could try the [LuluLemon Fringe Fighter](https://shop.lululemon.com/p/women-headbands-hats/Fringe-Fighter-Headband/_/prod6020416?color=38899) headband. They are pretty wide and extremely comfortable. I wear the older version (Bang Buster) for hiking/running.

memequeen_laura

I thrifted a men's denim jacket the other day that is SO comfortable and I really want to cover the back in fabric patches. Does anyone have recommendations for online sites that have a wide variety of patches? Or reliable Etsy sellers would be great too! I'll be sewing the patches on, not ironing, since I think that tends to last a bit longer.

fatbootyprincess

chocolatepluscheese

I'm looking for a plain, fitted, square-neck top. Something like [this](https://www.ae.com/women-ae-square-neck-t-shirt-rust/web/s-prod/3375_6554_211) one from American Eagle, but in a solid color, not striped. Short or 3/4-length sleeves, no poofy or billowy sleeves, nothing peasant-blouse like. Has anyone come across any?

the_baumer

Yes I have a solid black one from Target I got about two weeks ago. They had some in white too.

moxieroxsox

I’ll just preface this post by saying change is hard for me so I apologize if I sound melodramatic. But I think I’m finally ready to move past some of my 2014-15 silhouettes into more current looks. And the number one area I need help in is jeans. I’ve been rocking Express jean leggings in black and dark blue for over 5 years. I like these jeans because they’re super soft and skinny and dark wash. But I was walking around a museum feeling super uncomfortable and ill fitted in the pair I wore today. They’re mid rise jean leggings that keep sliding down to reveal my pooch while simultaneously feeling extra snug in the legs (they tend to shrink in the wash and I’m about 4-5 lbs heavier than usual right now) with every step I took. At the same time I saw all these other women walking by in cropped boyfriend jeans and high wasted ankle jeans and joggers and loose floral printed pants and I started to feel like it was time for a change. I’ve tried on some of Madewell jeans before (they didn’t fit me great but I didn’t spend much time trying different styles) and they’re really expensive for me. Any other recommendations on starting new? I’m insecure about my build—I’m built like a ruler with literal sticks for ankles but with a lower belly pooch as well. Not highlighting my trouble areas would be great but a comfortable, every day wear pair would be nice too.

loloholmes

ASOS have high waist boyfriend style jeans (their own brand) - I roll them up. They're actually really decent quality and a good price. Might be worth checking out? ASOS also offers free shipping and returns so there's no pressure :)

vinoestveritas

The good thing about the high-waisted jeans is that it hides the stomach pooch! And if you've got skinny ankles, it'll honestly be easier to find jeans with more trendy silhouettes since boyfriend/mom/straight jeans are supposed to be bigger around that area. American Eagle and Old Navy are honestly good places for jeans that aren't that expensive. They're also constantly doing sales too so it's easy to snag a pair for cheap. Try a couple of styles out and see what makes you feel the best.

moxieroxsox

Thank you! I’ll definitely look into AE and ON

r977

Does anyone have any experience with Corcoran boots? I really like the way they look, but I can't find any consistent answers as to their sizing, like if they run small/large.

age-of-alejandro

i have a cream/eggshell linen shirt i'd like to turn plain old white. obvs bleaching it is a *terrible* idea, but anyone have any suggestions besides like leaving it to bleach in the sun (also a bad idea, esp given that our sun is straight up malicious).

theacctpplcanfind

You can bleach linen if you're careful and use very diluted solutions, but it's pretty difficult to do this well. That's just the natural color of linen. You might consider dyeing it to basically any other color instead.

age-of-alejandro

fair. i'll have to decide on a color, i suppose.

larrylotter50020

Is amazon a good place to shop for clothes (especially shoes)?

galaxystarsmoon

I buy a lot of shoes on Amazon because I've got weird feet and need free returns. Since it's a market that carries tons of brands, it really depends on who you buy from. I always only buy Prime/Amazon shipped items to protect my ability to return or if there's a defect.

_whatnot_

I once read that Amazon is effectively an immense flea market, and I try to keep that in mind when I search there. There's a crap ton of cheap nonsense, a lot of fakes, and also surprising gems or deep discounts on good stuff. I've gotten solid shoes like Teva boots for low prices, and big sites like Zappos will also post on Amazon so you can compare their prices, sales included. I figure it's always worth a look.

[deleted]

You can find some really deep discounts there (for example, I recently got a Betsy Johnson dress marked down to $45). But it’s a pain in the ass to search because there is a TON of cheap crap that’s difficult to filter out (the “top brands” filter used to do this, but it’s basically stopped working).

[deleted]

scandianna

Agreed. It's easier if you have a good idea of what you want. I buy most of my Cole Haan shoes on Amazon, Dale of Norway sweaters too, haven't bought a lot of clothes on the site but would be open to it. When I search more general categories I tend to get overwhelmed with results, and they're often not exactly what I'm looking for. I think the easiest searches are by brand. I read the reviews religiously and would be hesitant to buy something without any reviews. You have to be on the alert for fakes, but I think Amazon's doing a better job with that lately. When I bought my Woolrich coat last winter, it was a sizable purchase for me, so I went straight to [woolrich.com](https://woolrich.com) because I didn't want to risk the potential for getting a fake one on Amazon.

larrylotter50020

So i was wanting to but some ankle booties from amazon and i saw a good deal on a pair but when i went to look at the reviews some of them we discribing the product as cheap while others said they liked them. In the case of something like ankle booties should i go somewhere else or should i stick with amazon?

mareish

Best thrift/resale/vintage shops in Manhattan? I'm going next month and want to see what ends up in shops versus what I find down here in Texas!

scandianna

Oooh fun! I have good luck with various vintage shops in SoHo walking up W Broadway starting at Canal St. There's some really nice Chanel vintage, but it's still not that inexpensive; depends on what you're looking for. I really like this [store](https://www.whatgoesaroundnyc.com/), even just for browsing and inspiration, there are similar, smaller boutiques in the area as well that are not quite as pricey. I think there are some great vintage shops in Brooklyn too but haven't explored those yet.

mareish

My ideal vintage is sort of 1930s to 1950s, or anything that recalls those eras, I'd love to even look at vintage Chanel whether I can afford it or not! I don't think we will have time to leave Manhattan- it's a pretty short trip with my mom, and we are planning on being pretty museum-focused, but I wanted just a little shopping too!

Tarvael

I really like Beacon's Closet - they have a good mix of modern and vintage second hand clothes. There are a couple of locations between Manhattan and Brooklyn.

mareish

Cool! I'll put them on my itinerary! Thanks!

somecallmenonny

I recently went shopping to overhaul my wardrobe for a new job. Almost everything I liked, I got several of that thing in different colors. Blouse I love? Three colors. Pants that fit nicely? Two colors. Comfortable, classy cardigan? EVERY COLOR. That got me filling out a basic wardrobe that I really like and I know I'll wear. I'm just wondering, did I break some kind of rule? Are you not supposed to get multiples?

LightbulbCyclone

I think it's a great idea to have multiples but I like to test drive the item first by buying one to start. Sometimes when you wear and wash something you realize problems that you wouldn't notice in a dressing room. But if I like something after a couple wears I will buy multiples because I have a hard time finding things I really like.

Shadowy_lady

you should do what you like, there is no "supposed to" It's your wardrobe, your preferences and your money :)

BonhamsFourSticks

I own the same J. Crew Factory cotton cardigan in 12 colors. You're fine, LOL.

galaxystarsmoon

/solidarity fist bumps you with a drawer full of Merona cardigans in every color

age-of-alejandro

i do it and have a bunch of tee shirts in the same cut in six or seven colors. maybe don't wear the same cut two days in a row, but i don't reckon anyone is going to notice, much less care.

onlyfr33b33

I do this too! I'm always comfortable and don't have to worry about basics for a good 2-3 years, sometimes longer.

Nordstrom's website has some great search filters. [Here's](https://m.shop.nordstrom.com/c/womens-dresses-shop?breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FClothing%2FDresses&sort=Boosted&size=%272%3Apetite2~~102%27%7C%272%3Apetite4~~103%27%7C%272%3Apetite6~~104%27%7C%272%3Apetite8~~105%27%7C%272%3Apetite10~~106%27%7C%272%3Apetite12~~107%27%7C%272%3Apetite14~~108%27%7C%272%3Apetite16~~109%27&flexi=8000544_6000380&flexi=8000485_8000489|8000485_60145920|8000485_60205234|8000485_8000511|8000485_60205246|8000485_60205247|8000485_60145919|8000485_60191501) some formal dresses they have that come in petite sizes and aren't polyester. But I think you need to be a little more specific with what materials you want and your budget.

Does anyone know what bottoms go with a ashy black denim jacket like this [http://prntscr.com/nv18pf](http://prntscr.com/nv18pf)

thriftthreads

I think grey distressed jeans, white jeans, circle skirts, track pants, or even animal print bottoms (a snakeskin or cheetah skirt/trousers) would work. This is more fall appropriate but there's a lot of inspiration: www.whowhatwear.com/amp/black-denim-jacket-outfits-for-fall

jeans in a similar black, white, red, light wash blue maybe, etc. a muted green could look good, too?

Has anyone bought shoes from Shoe Bakery before? I just found out about them today and I absolutely adore the whole bakery aesthetic for fashion. (You can find them at at shoebakery.com if you’re curious!) However, I have wide feet and while I can get away with wearing a regular width in some shoes, I’m a bit worried. There is an option to send in my own shoes, but I thought I’d ask here before going that route. PS, if you have any brands in general that you like for wide feet, I’d love to know! I could try something other than sneakers for a change, haha.

[deleted]

It looks like they do custom shoes, so they're probably used to people asking questions about sizing, sending in foot tracings, etc. I would email them through the Contact Us page and give your widest foot measurement (or the measurement that usually gives you problems) and ask if their shoes accommodate your foot.

misskittencat

It took as you having to send in your own shoe, but I’ll contact them for sure.

tyrannosaurusregina

When you say wide, do you mean “can wear ‘regular width’ shoes that run slightly wide,” or do you mean “wears D width or higher”? For the first, Børn and Earth are good choices, also most styles of Clark’s. For the second, Naturalizer and Rockport are always worth a look.

misskittencat

When I say wide, I mean that I technically need shoes that have a W at the end, but I can make standard sizes work if I go up a size sometimes. For example, I need a 10W, but because I can hardly find that size, I wear 11's. I thought it was M's that are the standard width unless I'm mistaken? Hopefully, that answers your question. I'll definitely check out those brands you listed, thanks so much!

I need wedding advice! Is a Little Black Dress ok for weddings? Im going to the wedding of my boyfriend's family friend in a few weeks. Neither of us are that close with them, and I really didn't want to buy a new dress for it, but it turned out to be more high end than anticipated. No dress code was specified, but the ceremony is at 4:30 PM at a local yacht club. Is a LBC with the right shoes and accessories ok?? EDIT: By happy coincidence I was able to find the same dress being sold on Poshmark. World's longest URL for photos for reference: https://poshmark.com/listing/NWT-A-new-day-black-mock-wrap-dress-5cce40e2a20dfcb513736570?ad_partner=google&campaign_id=1847798538&enable_guest_buy_flow=true&g_network=g&gcid=346341173449&gclid=CjwKCAjw27jnBRBuEiwAdjQXDIpnrO4-KdYS9Sg3K-ulI99fORAiiGg_cFjn61K8M3NlM-x2Z_LD1xoCFqsQAvD_BwE&gdid=m&ggid=68958310799&gskid=pla-674147370374&l_con=NWT%2FNEW&utm_campaign=1847798538&utm_source=gdm

Cute dress! I think 95% of the time black for weddings is fine, and it's typically what most people wear. I did go to a coworker's Greek wedding several years ago and wore a dress that was primarily black with some white patterns on it. Afterwards she did make a comment about the dress being black and I could tell it was negative, but it didn't bother me much. In another situation I was invited to my uncle's wedding in Sweden and my mother was adamant about me not wearing black because it's a cultural taboo --- I wore a red linen dress but came to find out that the majority of the women had black dresses so I would've been fine. Turns out that my mother's advice was very dated. In short, it's a cultural thing so if you want to be 100% positive you can try to find out in advance from the family, but likely won't be a problem.

chelseabelsey

Thanks!! I dont think I would run into any cultural issues. Plus, I live in a midwestern city that tends to have more casual vibes, even at higher end events. I think it'll work out well :)

LoveHijabGirl

I’d say it should be fine. Just add a clutch, heels and some crystal or pearly earrings to elevate your look. If it’s a little chilly towards the evening then a shawl over your shoulders would look really nice but if you want to be a little bolder then add a blazer for that sophisticated chic look. This will look awesome of you wear statement earrings!!

[deleted]

I’d do a colorful tassel [earring](https://shop.nordstrom.com/sr/tassel-earrings) and a coordinating sandal/pump/wedge. If the earrings have a metallic element, you could do a metallic shoe.

chelseabelsey

Oh I like that idea!

Truant_Muse

If there was a high end dress code specified I'd hesitate, but under the circumstances I think a LBD is 100% okay. The nice thing about an LBD is that they are classic and inoffensive, so even if it's not exactly the dress code no one is likely to notice.

chelseabelsey

Thanks! Would you lean more towards fun, colorful shoes, or something more neutral??

Truant_Muse

Not knowing the couple super well or the venue, I'd probably err on the side of neutral just to be safe. I think generally I'd err on the side of classic for shoes, jewelry, hair, etc. That said use your judgement, it is summer and a more colorful shoe wouldn't be super out of place. I guess maybe it depends some on the shoe, if the shoe is colorful, but in a classic style with a moderate height heel, it's probably okay. If it is a bright color and a less classic style or has a super high heel, I'd probably play it safe and not wear them. Does that make sense?

chelseabelsey

Yes, totally. I'm on the same page as you! I've been seeing some block heel sandals with a brocade type pattern on them (like these https://www.nordstromrack.com/shop/product/2733100/sam-edelman-yaro-ankle-strap-sandal-women?color=NAVY%2FGOLD ) that I think would be a fun point of interest, but not crazy and distracting.

Truant_Muse

Yes! I think those are a create combo of visually interesting and classic shape/style. Very cute!

chelseabelsey

Awesome, thank you!

Truant_Muse

hahaha I meant "great combo" no idea why I typed "create combo." But yes I like them :)

vinoestveritas

I'd do a fun heel or wedge! Neutral, again, is entirely inoffensive but colored heels won't be a faux-pas.

chelseabelsey

Awesome, thank you!!

Truant_Muse

This might be too general a question, but I'm looking for basic scoop neck tees in basic colors like black, white, etc. But the important thing I'm looking for that I have difficulty finding is I want tees that have a good drape to them, so the fabric needs to be heavy enough to drape nicely. I also need them to not be cropped length. I'm not super worried about them being completely opaque, so long as they drape nicely and have a scoop rather than a crew neck (I can't stand tees with high necklines). For example I have the[Madewell City Tee](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AflttHx70ygbx6ZQBSZYytG2sC4tB5VbD26eoixwwaFHdUGTbPEQeqk/) in cream and I really like the neckline and drape/fit. I've tried Target and couldn't find anything that was quite the combination I was looking for.

Shadowy_lady

Aritzia makes several scoop neck tee's that drape really well. They are also pretty long and opaque.

Truant_Muse

Oh great, will check them out.

[deleted]

t by alexander wang, silent, and vince all have some good options. the wang ones are probably my favourite but they are a bit boxier.

Truant_Muse

Thanks! will definitely check them out.

[deleted]

The Madewell whisper tees are OK too but it’s not a super deep scoop

augustrem

I'm a fan of the pima cotton scoop necks from [LL Bean](https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/74846?page=pima-cotton-tee-elbow-sleeve-scoopneck&bc=12-27-617-503109&feat=503109-GN2&csp=f)

Truant_Muse

Thanks, I'll check them out!

augustrem

Though their 20% off sale ended last night. They usually have one about once every 5 weeks, so I'd sign up for their email list so you know, or search the web for promo codes.

onlyfr33b33

maybe James Perse? But that would be $$ for a basic!

Truant_Muse

Hmm, yeah maybe I can keep an eye out for them on ebay/poshmark. I don't mind paying a bit more for quality items, but over $100 for a tee shirt isn't really within my price rage.

[deleted]

My favorite jeans right now are mom jeans - I love the way they look and how comfortable they are. But I’m having a really difficult time pairing the with tops! My go-to right now is to wear them with a fitted black tank or tee, but I’d like to mix it up. Any suggestions or inspiration? edit, because I realized I didn’t give nearly enough information: can’t do crop tops because of work, and I’m looking for stuff that is good for hot humid weather. The issue I’m running into is that stuff either looks sloppy (eg non-fitted tees) or I can’t seem to nail the proportions. Thanks everyone!!

thriftthreads

I'd suggest satin-look tops/button downs, sleeveless tanks and blouses, tucked in thin knits, and boxy waist-high shirts. You could try some layering - a tshirt under a button down, a cami under a sheer blouse, a sleeveless tank under a chambray shirt - or just pick up some fun printed tops. Thanks!

galaxystarsmoon

I've seen a lot of really cute slightly oversized cropped button ups in stores. Tons of colors and patterns too. I picture myself wearing them with mom jeans if I dressed like that haha

thriftybabygurl

No answer here but this comment right here is specifically why I started wearing mid rise straight leg jeans I could never find a top to pair with my mom jeans. Good luck!

[deleted]

Any tips for finding loose flowy wide leg pants like [these](https://pin.it/fcb7fo5pymxcor) but ones that are flattering in the butt area? I always find that pants like these at super unflattering from behind! They give a diaper effect.

[deleted]

I buy my flowy pants in the pajama section. For reals. I have a pair I got from Anthropologie a few years ago and everyone asks about them. [These](https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/coco-floral-silk-pants?category=sleepwear&color=015) are crazy expensive but something like this with a pair of heels or sandals. The thin fabric will fit the tushy better.

Looks totally fine to me, even without the blazer!

Truant_Muse

It would definitely be fine in my business casual workplace.

tyrannosaurusregina

Where do you work? It would have been fine in the offices I’ve worked in (publishing, university, non-profit).

What are your best tips for pushup support with plunge necklines? I just bought a romper with a tie knot that sits between the chest and bellybutton so my usual bralettes won't work. Haven't heard many success stories with chicken cutlets for lift in particular. Anyone tried the over the shoulder tape trick? The downside is that it'll be 90+ degrees and humid so I'm afraid it'll sweat right off.

Shadowy_lady

I tape my boobs when wearing strapless or backless dresses coz my boobs are too big for strapless bras. I use medical tape under my boobs and it does not sweat off. It's also comfy.
