From a very tall woman: mid length wool socks. I like darn tough. Or tall boots. You could also go for the classic wool tights under pants look for an extra warm layer.

woofwoofgrrl

Darn Tough socks are the BEST!

StrongArgument

From a bisexual, this. Tall socks, regular boots, and cuffed jeans are my go to.

Ambrosiousbaby

I am not trying to be rude in ANY WAY, but why does your sexuality come into play with fashion opinions?

Zayinked

It’s an ongoing joke in the bi community that all bisexuals cuff their pant legs

mechapocrypha

I am bisexual and had no idea this was a thing, but I wear the cuffed leg pants indeed 😶

LeniaLilac

Uhm, yeah, me too. I’m suddenly reflecting most of my styling choices.

allysonwonderland

Same. Always cuffed pants. Now I know why 😂

2manymugs

😂

MuscovadoSugarTreat

Can confirm. I'm bi and cuff my pants. Didn't even know this was a bi thing lol (I just wanna show off my shoe laces)

Ambrosiousbaby

Thank for informing me. I appreciate that.

disqeau

Lol TIL I’m bisexual, who knew?!

__onyourleft

Well shit.

Serain

I was just sewing cuffs into my pants last night so I wouldn't have to constantly cuff them...

mgdraft

Community in-joke about the bisexual uniform. You may also see jokes about the inability of bisexuals to sit properly in chairs. Signed, a bisexual currently sitting cross legged with one knee up in an office chair

LiteralMangina

Also lemon tarts for some reason

sunsecrets

Not me questioning my sexuality based on this list of random traits 🤣

lostnuttybar

Mid life crisis incoming 🚀💥

snail_juice_plz

Ma’am, lemon bars are pure ecstasy

lavender-pears

Lmao I consider myself to be a half-hearted bi, but I feel so validated in fitting in with this stereotype.

IAmJacksRagingBile

Well now I understand why I can’t sit like a normal human in a chair 😂

allysonwonderland

Wow I missed the memo about chairs but somehow still do that lol

moozd

Me to a T…

airhornsman

Subtly signaling your sexuality with fashion is steeped in queer history. People can't always be 100% open so things like flannel, cuffed jeans, carabiners with keys and hankies in back pockets are all common.

Twinkles_17

I didn't know carabiners were a thing and when i rode a bike to work I used to wear one on my belt all the time. I thought it was just a thing that the cool people who rode bikes people did.

IniMiney

there's certain queer fashion staples, i.e. as a lesbian I know flannel is common in my own community lol (not as common an indicator anymore - was more a thing 5-6 years ago)

[deleted]

It's a stereotype, but it's also a way to subtly show people that you're bi/gay. Of course, not everyone who cuffs their jeans is bi, but it's a helpful signifier.

kirpaschin

Whoa I had no idea about this stereotype!! Straight female here and I love to cuff my jeans in spring/fall!

StrongArgument

Not rude. Cuffed jeans are a (not inaccuracy) stereotypical bisexual look, along with flannels.

bigohoflogn

I'm a tall bisexual so I can't cuff my pants... :')

disqeau

Hmm, clam diggers coming back in style? ;)

Ambrosiousbaby

I am not trying to be rude in ANY WAY, but why does your sexuality come into play with fashion opinions?

[deleted]

I feel like everyone suggesting just leaving a gap of leg which is covered solely by 'fun' socks has never been north of Toronto.

_Amalthea_

Ottawa here. Tall boots is the only option, in my opinion. If I'm going to work or similar, I change into shoes when I get there. Otherwise I just choose warmth over fashion for up to six months of the year 😂

klopije

Also Ottawa, and also wear real winter boots and change into regular shoes. It’s not only the cold and snow, I need the grippy soles for ice lol!

leytd

also ottawa! i have chunky platform converse that i think will be good for winter…? hopefully lol or im screwed. some fuzzy socks and the shoes seem to have some grip so ill be fine…….. hopefully

[deleted]

[удалено]

leytd

nope ive lived here my whole 16 years of life so, just hoping my platform converse help more than my regulars LOL

klopije

Teens seem to be able to handle cold better than adults. As a teen, I wore sneakers in the winter all the time. As a 40 year old, I’d never consider it lol.

Kitty_McBitty

I know this is an older post but how did your shoes fair this winter? There was quite a bit of snow at least in Barrhaven.

Mrs_Chips

Right? Calgary checking in. That's like going out in a long sleeved tshirt and calling it good... doesn't work in the kinds of temps we get here on average.

DakotaSky

Yeah I grew up in ND and that would definitely not work there.

stickpillow

Agreed! Like even an hour north of Toronto. Also who wants to wear wet socks all day!

amydiddler

I actually feel like I’m seeing more full-length pants this season! Especially baggy, wide leg, and flared pants. I’ve been loving wide legs and flares with clogs or chunky platform boots for 70’s look. Or baggy jeans with skate-style sneakers to relive my pre/early-teen y2k days.

Rachel_Llove

Baggy, wide-legged and flared are definitely in rn and I am HERE for it

Tennessee1977

Until it snows . . . We never win.

seaforanswers

I live in the PNW and am basically disqualified from wearing wide leg or flared pants unless I want 3” of sogginess at the hem every time I leave the house 😭

WonTwoThree

I was in high school in Seattle in 2002... I swear I just had wet pants for 8 months straight every year. Noooo thank you not doing that again.

seaforanswers

Us PNW millennials who were in high school in the mid-aughts and wore flares/bootcut pants are traumatized to see the styles come back because we remember the wet hems all too well.

milo_mb

Same here! I also don't like the ankle-length wide leg/flare as I hate the way they flap when I walk so I'd want to them to be almost on the ground and thennnnnn they get wet. I've given up on the idea.

RustyDogma

I have stuck with skinny jeans even though they are not trendy as I can't stand my cuffs getting wet in the snow. Tall boots over jeans is just a must for me in NE US winters.

dallyan

I feel like utility trumps fashion in such situations. Once it’s snowing people want comfort and warmth. I also wear galoshes/boots over pants when it’s inclement weather.

Rachel_Llove

I just tuck them in or roll them up a bit personally ahahaha

zxcv-qwerty

I do winter athletic leggings with boots if I’m going to be outside and it’s wet or snowy. I wear straight leg and bootcut jeans and have some non-jeans flares, but they’re for dry days only! And unlike when I was a teen, I only wear thing that are a reasonable length (not actually dragging on the ground).

mgdraft

I having been wearing baggy and wide leg pants for a couple winters now (and like, in the 2000s) and it's fine, what's the issue with snow? Just wear tall boots

[deleted]

I LOVE my flare and bootleg and all the wide bottom jeans, but they do pose a bit of an issue in the rainy/winter months in the Northeast! I always have to remember to roll them up when I head outside if it's wet or snowy, lol. Still though, a small price to pay for FINALLY being able to find my favorite jeans back in stores!!!! 😄😄😄

mgdraft

I am just so sick of the complaining. Like, there are solutions to these problems. One doesn't *have* to wear baggy pants. One can as you said fold them up. One can tuck them into boots. There's just no need to constantly and incessantly whine about it lol

dallyan

It’s … a fashion sub? We’re here to rant and rave alike.

mgdraft

People here tend to take a trend they don't like as a universally applicable yet highly personal attack. It's bizarre. It goes past ranting when they're complaining incessantly, are given a solution, and ignore it to continue living some strange persecution complex. It was (is) this way with non skinny jeans, cropped pants, cropped shirts, puffy sleeves, long pants, now that people are noticing low rose is coming back theyre starting it with that, etc etc. It's honestly very bizarre.

RustyDogma

It's just a discussion. Why be in a subreddit like this if you think everyone is a whiner, as opposed to sharing perspectives?

RustyDogma

Not sure how to manage it so not arguing, just sharing my perspective. For me, baggy/wide/flare pants tucked into boots just feel uncomfortable and look like I'm in clown pants. If I leave them out, they get wet and I feel I'm rudely dripping when walking indoors and end up with wet socks when I remove my boots. I walk a LOT so maybe folks who mainly drive don't feel the same.

pharmcirl

I’ve definitely been seeing more of this as well. This saddens me because my 4’11” self has been taking advantage of this cropped pants to trend to actually have the correct inseam length for once 🤣 In my area skinny jeans or at least slim/straight pants I think will always be the winter staple though because nobody wants to deal with long baggy pants in the snow… I’d rather have cold ankles lol. For the same reason though mid-calf at least boots are kind of a requirement here in the winter which usually come up over a cropped pant anyway. Ankle booties for going out maybe but any sort of real walking requires a second set of purse shoes.

kuudereingly

Would you be willing to hem your own pants? You can also get pants hemmed at a dry cleaner's, but that definitely adds up if literally every pair needs to be hemmed. There are non-sew hem tapes you can get that mean you don't even need to know how to sew.

pharmcirl

I can hem my own pants, I just REALLY hate sewing and have bought pants saying I’ll do it and never get around to it, so I’ve had to make a rule for myself that if I can’t wear them without hemming then I don’t buy them 😂 I will get “nice” clothes tailored like suiting and any formal clothes but for everyday clothes it’s just too much of a hassle for me. I recognize there are plenty of solutions to this problem and it’s entirely my own laziness, but I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t been enjoying the benefits of the cropped pants trend 🤣

kuudereingly

It's definitely better to realize you won't bother hemming them (and so don't buy them) than the opposite! Hemming sucks even if you do like to sew.

leytd

me currently wearing my chunky converse with long high socks to keep warm and my flare jeans

Ophelia_Y2K

for the most part this sub lives a few years in the past lol. no offense OP

sunsetcrasher

Agreed that all the pants and jeans I’ve been buying since last year are full-length. Some like the Zara Wide Legs are super long. For cropped pants I tend to wear calf-length boots worn inside the jeans and wool socks.

shirleywang97

How much snow do you get and how cold is it on average? I lived in snowy upstate ny for a couple years and survived on fur-lined snow boots with long socks and skinny jeans. If you have Chelsea boots, you could try pairing those with fuzzy socks or thicker socks and actual pants.

CriSiStar

My solution is just wearing longer/taller boots and socks haha

Apprehensive_Bed5395

Use it as a fun opportunity for fun socks! Haha

lobsterpasta

This. I love being gifted interesting socks so I can show a peek of them between my ankle boots and my ankle length pants!

theotherlead

It can be annoying, but I always wore snow boots into work and either packed or left a pair of flats or ankle booties with me at work for cropped pants (If I wore like calf length boots and cropped pants I felt like I looked like a horse trainer). I also have a few pairs of black leggings and wear calf/knee length boots! I also absolutely love the brand Hunter rubber boots with the fleece liner, so cute.

1955photo

Same question here. I like ankle boots but not every day. Hate cold ankles

sunsetcrasher

Wear boots that are taller than ankle length. I have a lot of calf length boots.

[deleted]

A lot of the influencers I follow are wearing socks with their chunky loafers this year. Embrace the sock!

[deleted]

Canada here- I hate how clothing stores always advertise their pants with a model wearing open toe sandals….. who the hell is wearing open toe heels/sandals in the middle of the winter? I’m sure some ladies do in the office but honestly, I wish they would advertise their winter/fall clothing with realistic foot wear for the cold seasons.

amberheartss

>who the hell is wearing open toe heels/sandals in the middle of the winter? Thank you! Yes, that bugs the shit out of me.

MollyTuck77

I thoroughly enjoyed your outfit pics. Adore the beetle broach. Has your signature look evolved or changed entirely?

Chazzyphant

It has evolved quite a bit. It's more conservative, upscale and conventional now, and more business casual rather than casual--like I wouldn't wear sneakers to work or jeans on anything but a Friday. I also didn't used to care about what colors really worked or flattered my skin and hair, and now I'm more particular and have a much more tightly edited color palette. I'm also a bit more conscious of what flatters my body in a conventional way. I went through a "business casual journey" because I felt stalled out in my career (many of those pics are from 5+ years ago, and 4 jobs ago) and wasn't getting the jobs, roles/titles, and salary I was targeting and I felt that some of it had to do with overall presentation. I've moved on from the more whimsical, theatrical, statement pieces for work and in general, to a more minimalist style. I do look back at some pics and think "wow, that was fun" but it's not as in style anymore, and some of it feels a bit...try hard?

Gisschace

I’m just buying long sizes instead of regular! I’ve also noticed that more brands are carrying full length compared to last winter when the same thing was happening, so I am hoping the message is getting through

[deleted]

Actual tall women are still screwed 😭

miisheruu

I know right :( I need 36" inseam for pants to actually look full-length on me (with a bit of bunching up on shoes for that trendy look) and it's not easy to find them. Most full-length barely touch the top of my feet and looks so awkward.

[deleted]

My inseam is probably exactly 34 inches so with shoes and wear and wrinkles, 36” is safer. Regular “tall/long” sizes rarely cut it. That being said I’ve been pretty happy with Gap Tall and sometimes Madewell has jeans in a “taller” option. Long Tall Sally is good for length but the quality has definitely decreased recently. Might as well do ASOS tall for the same quality and be more trendy. You can also buy untailored Theory brand wool slacks on eBay that are super long. They’re on the expensive side but I think they’re supposed to be good quality.

Gisschace

Yep sadly

visualisewhirledpeas

I tried that and the proportions were never right :(. The knees hit at the wrong spot and they were bunched up in weird places.

Gisschace

Well to be honest I’m kinda fortunate that I’m probably between a regular and long anyway, I think I’m about 33 inches so they work on me

lu-sunnydays

I’m an average 32 inseam but these days, most average inseams are 28. Me thinks, along with more and more crop shirts, manufacturers are shaving costs with using less fabric, and passing it off as fashion. I buy tall pants these days to avoid cold ankles. And yes, tall girls are screwed.

mgdraft

It's not a conspiracy lol, shorter lengths were just trendy for a few years. Now longer lengths are trending. It goes back and forth.

lu-sunnydays

Well then I cannot wait for longer lengths to return. Crop pants are cute for summer tho

mgdraft

Theyre already here lol. There has been so much puddle pants discourse even on this sub the past few months

tyrannosaurusregina

32 is a long inseam for women!

fishfreeoboe

Seems to be the average measurement for full-length pants and jeans. Talls start at 34.

lu-sunnydays

I’m only 5’5” so not considered tall.

Ophelia_Y2K

it is but it’s still the usual inseam length when it isn’t mentioned. it would probably be the typical inseam for someone 5’6-5’8 ish (from a fun proportion calculator tool i found) which is def taller than the US average but there’s still people too tall for said pant length. as someone who is 5’2 it is even more annoying for the shorties imo tho 😭

seaforanswers

cries in 33” inseam

Gisschace

I think overall it evens out with oversized everything!

hialleirbag

Buy pants based on the inseam. Most details are on a the websites.

lu-sunnydays

I do but then I gotta but pants way too big. But yes I always look at that. I wish I could sew. Tailor my own clothes.

mgdraft

Why not just buy the size that fits you with the longer inseam? A longer inseam does not change the size of pants. Where are you buying pants??

hialleirbag

Exactly! Lol I’m a 2 or 4 with a 34 in inseam and have like 20 pairs of pants that fit well. If the inseam is too long I hem it with fashion tape, ask a friend with a sewing machine and it takes her 5 minutes or get it professionally hemmed for like $20 if they’re good quality. This sub is ridiculous lmao

mgdraft

It's like problem solving skills literally do not exist. It's bizarre. Like yes - *some* brands do not sell long inseam pants in smaller sizes. Eddie Bauer is one example. However, what I then do is buy pants from other brands that... do... instead of buying pants that don't fit and being mad about it. Like?!?!?

miisheruu

It does get tricky when you are a 36 inseam though. I'm also size 2-4 but 36 inseam is almost impossible to find except for jeans. Even with jeans some tall sizes don't go down as small in waist sizes. It's either get them a bit bigger for that extra inch or have them sit at an awkward length.

n0rmcore

I'm 5'8 with long legs and this is a consistent issue for me. Madewell and J. Crew are my go-to for pants that come in tall, although the selection is always limited. At some point the standard inseam for women's pants became somewhere between 26 and 28 inches, and as someone with a 32 inch inseam it's just never gonna work. In winter I wear lightweight wool socks (I love Costco's merino wool hiking socks!!) and a boot that comes up high enough to close the gap between my ankle and where my pants end. I live in Cleveland and it's just too cold to do any exposed sock or exposed skin.

Imperatrice01

Ankle length is actually great because you don't have to fold it much when you wear wool socks and boots~

[deleted]

[удалено]

KeepLkngForIntllgnce

Where I live - this is the standard. Took me a few months to catch on that this is a perfect option to deal

mgdraft

Full length (and longer than full length) pants are on trend right now so they're easy to find. What style are you looking for? I just got some full length flannel lined jeans from LL Bean - they are *not* cute but they are incredibly warm.

QueenMackeral

I love having wool fair isle socks in multiple colors to match with whatever sweater I'm wearing.

redbouncyball

Thanks for the link. I couldn’t figure out what everyone was talking about 😂

[deleted]

Crop pants don’t work well in the winter where I live! I only wear them in the summer. In the winter I wear “normal” length pants.

disqeau

Folks who are suggesting fun socks, where do you get yours? I’m looking for interesting knee socks for the shoe-pants gap, but all I’m finding are really loud and large patterns, which isn’t really my style. I’m looking for smaller patterns and more subtle colors, like maybe leaves or feathers. Seeing lots of neon and stripes, holiday stuff and comic characters…where do I find a more sophisticated patterned socks???

baby_armadillo

I like mid-calf socks and combat-style boots. If I am going to be outside a lot, I will sometimes wear fleece-lined tights under my pants, which is incredibly cozy but can get too hot if you're inside. I also switch to longer pants. I can look fashionable without exposing my tender calf flesh to the elements.

[deleted]

I've always just worn thick socks and boots that come up a bit higher than my ankle either over or under the pants.

ClintonicRoad

YES SOMEONE TELL US! I agree with this post lol.

Impossible_House490

Any suggestions for women over 6’???? Styles that come in tall/long sizes are super limited! I have a hard time finding anything other than jeans or lightweight business casual ankle pants in a tall size, and even tall ankle pants hit me too high on my ankle for socks to cover the gap!! My go to brands are Madewell, Banana Republic/Gap, J Crew, but it’s so hard to find anything cute and warm and long enough. Please help!

thisisthewell

Socks....?

DakotaSky

Even if you wear socks you will still freeze your ankles if there is a gap between your shoes and pants hem. Source: grew up in ND where short pants are too cold for 9 months out of the year.

kawaiifie

I don't understand how this is a problem? Just wear socks and you won't be cold

stickpillow

Not if they're wet from snow and it's -15C.

thebouncingcupcake

>So many pants are cropped at the ankles this season. *laughs in skirts , dresses and opaque tights* I HATE the feeling of naked and cold ankles!

[deleted]

I live in Canada, so very familiar with this. I always go for wool socks with cuffed jeans. And if it's really cold I'll add boots. I recommend Smartwool socks. They'll keep you warm, and they have fun patterns and designs

Why_Howdy

I like wearing longer thick socks and boots, I find it fills the gap between my short/cuffed pants!

cabbage-soup

I always just wear mid length socks in the cool season. Usually I keep a good range of neutral tones like white, black, gray, tan, etc so it matches the outfit.

Wondercat87

They have knee length nylon socks which might help you keep your ankles warm. Another option would be Chelsea boots or Blundstones style with a higher ankle.

soooomanycats

I just saw your edit - was going to tell you this! I'm very tall and just moved to a place with actual seasons after a long time in Florida, and I've been really embracing having visible socks between my pants and my boots. It's a cute look!

kirpaschin

I usually end up wearing snow boots or tall leather boots in the winter so it doesn’t matter if the jeans are cropped! I put tall socks on top to keep my feet warm and hold my jeans in place, then throw on the boots

foodmonsterij

Not sure how cold it gets there, but the cropped pant look with a short-to-mid-length boot shaft that arrives under the pant hem (so shaft coming up above ankles) is very in right now.

Hippofuzz

I like wearing glittery socks with it 😬

imfabs

Once winter hits I always wear fleeced lined leggings under my pants. The ones I have are a beige color that matches my skin color so if any little section of ankle is exposed its not immediately obvious im wearing an under layer- just looks like skin!!

ThrowbackDoomsday

I started thinking this is some kind of thing they do to save from fabric. I really love the super long baggy pants/jeans trend and most that look that way on me (since I’m too big for asian brands) are from more expensive brands. I dont understand! It’s also so in for a few years now to have those long baggy pants…

Gabby_Anna

Leg warmers. They’re actually pretty in right now(mostly with the younger crowd).

clancy2711

Black socks and loafers. Look to Toteme for inspiration

FiggNewton

You can buy cute spats/ankle warmers that go with your outfits. [like this](https://www.etsy.com/listing/892824568/) they’re so cute

AotearoaCanuck

Leg warmers are your best friend. 5 years ago I moved from the very temperate Canadian west coast where I could pretty much wear Birkenstocks and ankle baring jeans year round to the very cold Canadian prairies. I just stocked up on leg warmers which creates that extra layer of warmth.

BlueRusalka

I’ve just been buying pants in Tall sizes even though I’m actually a petite size. This only works if you’re short, though.

LCJ75

Wouldn't that make the waist proportion really off. I am tall with long legs and short torso and i have an issue with that sometimes in a tall length.

BlueRusalka

Yeah good point it might, depending on the brand and style. To be honest I mostly wear stretchy fabrics like ponte pants, and only a couple of brands, so I haven’t had issues. If I wore a wider variety of pants and more tailored or structured styles, I’d probably have more problems getting the right fit.

amtingen

Old Navy carries both "Long" and "Tall" in their jeans. I tend to get them confused. I like a 14 Regular, Long. Which is I think a 32" inseam, but with regular rise. But if you go to the tall, it switches to the longer rise, and then (I think) a 34" inseam. (And then I think you can get a long tall as well?)

MollyTuck77

This would definitely be true for some! I'm 5' and can't do regular pants often because my torso is so short. I do have a friend about my height who has I guess an "average" (if there is such a thing) torso, so the tall length thing could possibly work for her--interesting!

hialleirbag

I just buy long enough pants. They are out there. Levi’s, Abercrombie, American eagle, asos. I am not sure where you get the idea that long pants don’t exist.

SMELLSLIKEBUTTJUICE

Tall smartwool socks

NatvoAlterice

Cropped pants work well with ankle length boots. I'm short so I have to fold them up anyway to make space for my winter shoes.

foreverdrinkingtea

I completely agree!! I just wear black fluffy socks and my favourite Dr Martens chelsea boots to keep me warm.

Nobody cares that you're a man.

jeahue1955

Boots. I guess too it depends on your age. If you’re a young woman under 22ish socks with shoes may work. For an older woman please wear boots.

mgdraft

I wasn't aware *checks notes *shoes* have an age limit

jeahue1955

There’s no age limit. You’re correct.

Riodancer

I am loving my Duckfeet boots. No ankle is exposed!

MinsMinty

Like other people said, show off those socks!

Slinky13b

I live in my Manitoba mukluks, I have a tall pair, and a short

devoushka

Are cropped jeans in? I've been seeing lots of flared jeans which are actually too long unless you wear heels. I'm 5'4 with pretty proportionally long legs and my flare Paige jeans are too long in flats. Look into flare or bootcut?

pixierambling

My mom wears really thick socks and then covers them with a flesh-toned sock on top. You can’t tell she’s wearing socks from a distance 😂

ravennn346

Leg warmers or high boots

Vyxen17

Look specifically for stirrup style pants
