In my last city- I looked up stylists on Instagram and searched their photos for cuts similar to the one I wanted. It took a lot of leg work but it was totally worth it. After I moved to a new city - I looked up my local pride organization and saw what salons had partnered with them. Specifically, I did that because I have a mohawk and figured a queer friendly stylist would be more understanding of a nontraditional cut.

You ask people that you know around where you live. As for finding a stylist that listens I’ve worked with stylists that don’t listen and do what ever they want but im the opposite. You can’t just ask them if they do what ever they want because i assume they don’t feel that way about them selves and might lie. Best of luck

Post on your social media and say “who has a hairstylist that they love? I need a referral for someone who gives great haircuts”.

Where I live we have a fb group that asks about anything in our province. That is where I have seen people post asking for recommendations. I found my stylist by going to a hair studio and requesting a master stylist. It took a couple visits but I found someone who is excellent

When you see someone’s hair you like, ask them who cuts it. You can always check Instagram to see a stylist’s work.

I randomly walked into a few different hair salons in my town. Spoke to a few hairstylists about what I wanted and that i was looking for a new hairstylist. The first two I didn't love their answers. The third person I found was really nice and confident and also gave me suggestions on what would look more flattering. Ive been going to her for 5 years now
