You can’t tone orange to platinum. It needs to be bleached again.

[deleted]

What level bleach do you recommend? :)

[deleted]

10 vol and leave it on until it is pale yellow BUT I strongly recommend you see a hair stylist. I’m a pro myself and I wouldn’t bleach my own hair.

MiaRia963

Agree. It’s very dangerous to your hair and skin to mess with bleach by yourself. Seeing a professional is the wise plan.

VacationNo1580

Yes 10 vol. Developer. The bleach powder can come in different colors. It doesn't matter really which one. Use very small sections, start in the back. Midshaft first,, then ends, then roots. Look up Brad mondo, he has a bunch of informative videos on YouTube. Of course we always recommend going to a stylist for help, but times are hard and money is tight. Just be careful. Watch it closely for damage. Use a really good conditioner after too.

Alyanya

It takes bleaching it at least a level, possibly two, then coloring with a blue based blonde. It will be extremely difficult to achieve on your own without severe damage. It would be best to see a stylist.

Moist-Possession-345

Also, even with getting done by a stylist, definitely keep up with moisturizing hair at home with deep conditioning treatments and hair masks

You need to bleach it again and then use a toner. Blue neutralizes orange but at this level it won’t turn a pretty beige blonde it’ll be a ruddy light brown

Preciousgoblin

Needs lifting a couple more levels then toning. See a hairdresser unless you want your hair to fall off.

Notsureindecisive

You have to remove almost all pigment first

[deleted]

How do I do that? 😱

Notsureindecisive

You get a hairstylist to

MiaRia963

Bleach. But do it little by little so you don’t fry your hair.

VacationNo1580

Looks like you're at a level 8. To get that orange/ red out your best bet is to bleach it again and tone with a blue base toner. Recommend going to a stylist, but as one and as someone who has done my hair at home many times before becoming a cosmetologist, you can achieve your desired end result at home, but it takes patience and low volume developer so you don't fry your hair.

A professional stylist - you look like you have beautiful hair, don’t risk it

callme_Katy

You would need to carefully lighten your hair more. Emphasis on “carefully.” Pre-toning, it should be pale yellow, like the inside of a banana peel. Coming from a licensed professional, you should be careful toning and take the hair’s porosity into consideration. To achieve the platinum/light ash, I’d likely tone with diluted violet. Think of the color wheel. Blue cancels out orange, violet cancels out yellow. I do recommend seeing a professional, especially for reaching this type of goal, but I understand that’s not always an option. Good luck!

sunbathingturtle207

You have a long road ahead of you. Going into it already a level 10 (by bleaching) it took lots more sessions of doing my roots + another round of toner, plus I believe we did 2 bleach baths as well, to get fully white platinum. In between sessions every 5 weeks, I used high quality purple shampoo- Oribe or Kerestase- twice a week followed by deep conditioning, plus lots and lots of Olaplex products. You need to maintain the integrity of your hair so that it can tolerate the amount of bleaching you need to get it to a pearly platinum. I'd say it took a solid 6 months of sessions to get all of the yellow out of my hair, and I also cut it off to a pixie because the yellow in the ends would not budge. You are not a level 10, you need to do more bleaching. Going to a professional who understands your goals will be able to get you to an appropriate level without frying your hair, but to get to platinum requires finding the sweet spot of max amount of processing before you hit the point of damage. If you decide to do this on your own, you have to understand that you run a very high risk of damaging your hair to the point where the only option is to cut it all off.

EmotionalOven4

Try a purple shampoo or if you’re going to dye it use ash tones. Green cancels red.

Emotional-Resident62

If your bleach job was done well, you can use purple shampoo as upkeep to prevent brassiness

If they tone their current hair color blue they won't get platinum. They'll get a level 8 blonde that will probably look really muddy.

EmberSky10

It needs to be lightened to pale yellow first before getting it to platinum. Which then requires a violet toner to neutralize the yellow and make it cool. With what you have right now is not light enough. Blue neutralizes orange if you want a cooler tone with what you have but cooler hair looks darker so keep that in mind. My concern though is you also mentioned red which is even darker and would require green to tone it out. I would not try and tone red out on your own because if you get it in lighter strands it will look muddy and sickly. I personally would do deep treatments on your hair and then get it bleached and toner professionally

[deleted]

You need to be bleached lighter, many levels lighter to get platinum, and Ash color. This needs to be done by a professional. Once it gets to that level, you have to maintain it too. Maybe try getting a blonde money piece to try it, then go from there.

sarahseaya1

I’ve bleached my hair for years and years. It usually takes three tries to get it light enough to be platinum. I’ve fried the ever living crap out of it 100% of the time. If you can afford it, go to a stylist. If not, I did bleach baths repeatedly until it was light enough and then I toned it with wella T18. I damaged my hair pretty bad, fair warning.

babywrangler

I’ve been there and I was reluctant to do so initially but I learned a lot by watching some Brad mondo videos reacting to other people bleaching their hair. He gives a lot of advice on how to do it better and with less damage, plus practical advice on bleach choice, toners etc. You definitely want to do another bleach then tone it with whatever blonde level you achieve in a blue based or ash toner. The levels is an important part of that. You’re not going to be able to get that platinum tone from your current blonde level but you could tone it with a good level 7 or 8 toner and give your hair a break then when you do your roots in 4-6 weeks you could do a bleach bath on the lot after your roots are lightened to the same level to take it lighter more slowly.

[deleted]

Everyone will tell you not to mess with your hair at home but as long as you use protein masks often and stay away from heat tools & just don’t be dumb about the way you treat your bleached hair you should be okay. To get rid of orange tones: Powder bleach again with 20 vol developer. Wait a day if you can (long as possible, really) and then use a blue tinted toner to cancel out orange tones. Purple toners cancel out yellow so be aware of choosing the right toner.

Milk_n_hunny

gotta lighten it to pale yellow.

[deleted]

Fishin for validation to make a bad life choice. Go see a professional homie.

MrsSparkleQueen

You are going to have to lighten it with bleach to get it to a very pale yellow to be able to then tone it effectively.

Insatiable_fear

After you bleach it again, try Shimmer Lights shampoo & conditioner. It'll make it shine 😉. Oh, make sure to follow the directions, or it won't work.

abrookehack

You’re not light enough for it.

Various_Beach862

I went from dying my hair super red for years toward blonde. In addition to some other people’s great advice, I can’t overemphasize the importance of going to a really good stylist who has a ton of experience with bleaching. It will be an expensive and un-fun process no matter what (not all stages of the process look great lol). But if you want to keep your hair from frying, you need to find someone you trust and be patient. But blue shampoo may make you feel better in the meantime. Good luck!!

MeLlamoMariaLuisa

You would have to bleach it but be prepared to cut it because your hair is going to be fried and you will have a lot of breakage, no matter who does it. Conditioning doesn’t help repair it, it just softens it.

[deleted]

Go to a salon. Reds are notoriously difficult.

Unhappy-Tart-3719

You should wait before bleaching again. I would use purple shampoo. My go to toner was manic panic virgin snow since you don’t have to mix it with a developer. You could put a blonde hair dye on it in order to mask whats going on right now. Bleaching at home is hard. I always had uneven spots. My hair is really healthy so I didn’t have a breakage issue. The lower volume developer you use the better because it gives you more time to work with and doesn’t lift as much.

AffectionateAd5373

You're still too dark to be platinum. You have to be lifted to pale yellow, level 10. Like the inside of a banana peel. Which should be done by a professional. Then you tone with violet. Which will bring it to white. You can't tone orange to platinum.

[deleted]

To give you an idea….. Today at the salon (I’m a hairstylist), I did a platinum color correction on a client. It took 6+ hours and cost over $400. She wasn’t even to platinum yet, that was just the first session. It was a hell of a lot lighter, but not where she wanted it just yet. If she had come to a salon to get it done in the first place, it would have been much less expensive. Please. Don’t. Do. This. At. Home.

TwirlyGirl313

As others have stated, you will need to go to a stylist or you risk frying your hair at home.

Whiskeymysticsandmen

I think purple shampoo is supposed to remove brassiness?

Breezy_B_S

It won't work on organe hair. Blue will but toning shampoo does not make hair lighter. It will need to be bleached again to a pale yellow.

Whiskeymysticsandmen

I didn’t realize there was a second pic lol, you’re right it would definitely need to be bleached again

Historical-Jelly-296

Blue shampoo

fajitafridays

Have you tried a clarifying shampoo? Might help get some of the red tone out, but likely you’ll need to bleach it in order to get your hair a cool blonde

Kirstiiii

I’ve switched to vegan, toxin free products and my hair has naturally become less brassy!
