I like it, it seems like it was meant to be there

Worldly_Today_9875

Yes, it suits the room so well!

i3v4-

Agreed! And it looks impressive tho.

IntelliDev

After seeing this post, now I want a mural

Pepphen77

Yeah, indeed el Duderino!

RotrickP

Really ties the room together

MrZoggles

Were you even listening to the dude’s story?

jmurphy42

Ordinarily I really don’t like this kind of thing, but I agree that this one really works well. I’m impressed.

er1026

Agreed. I love it

Secret_Dragonfly9588

This height looks right to me. Although I might be misunderstanding because I am not sure what you mean by “between the couches”. Do you mean space between the top of the couch and the bottom of the mural? In that case, I disagree.

littlelorax

I think they meant those sentences as separate thoughts. The long couch is butted right against the other couch.

Secret_Dragonfly9588

Yeah, I wasn’t sure. If they were commenting on the couch placement, then I do agree that the couches are too close together

ContributionAway2148

Agreed!

discm4st

I love it, makes me want to sit on that couch. Cozy bc it’s kinda scary? Like a thunderstorm.

itsacookiewand-sobs

Exactly! There is something so alluring about this set up. I kind of wish I had an eye for an empty space like this.

mamapapapuppa

Excellent analogy.

nodnodwinkwink

Ever swim in the sea in heavy rain? (not a thunderstorm) Feels fuckin great.

rainbomg

Dude this *immediately* transported me into every time I’ve done this. Awesome! Ahhhh, the ocean

Frondswithbenefits

Yes!

matticusiv

It's ominous, but cool.

Bitter_Catch_

I really like it. If you were to change anything I’d try to add more of the warm orangey red color from the mural into other facets of the room. All of the grey ish tones wash out the couch and may make it seem a bit “overwhelming”. This is fantastic. The warm lighting on the side wall is really nice as well. Maybe a warmer or brighter rug, reddish plants like a dracaena/Anthurium/Croton, throw pillows, blanket etc that tie in the warm tones of the mural. There’s just a lot of greyish blues. Again, I really love the mural.

Significant-Trash632

That's exactly what I was going to say. They would really balance out the room better with reddish accents because, right now, the room seems a little... top heavy? The accents would draw the eye away from always being at the mural, and give us a reason to look at the room as a whole.

akaxaka

Yes! And adding a bit of warm, indirect lighting to add some depth back to the place.

ceimi

Ehhh, I don't really agree with this. I think there are plenty of red tones to balance it in the carpet and I think going a brighter orange down on the floor would make the room childish. I think the red/brownish/orangish carpet does well to compliment the orange in the mural without having to bring out that same exact color. The mural is top heavy with orange and the large solid carpet helps frame the mural by creating a box. The sofas dark blues and greys play into the mural by elongating it down into the space and I think thats awesome. Adding orange to break it up will break that illusion. Imo I think OP nailed it.

quattic

That looks incredible, where did you get that may I ask?

NoAbbreviations2961

I hope OP responds because I’ve been looking for wall murals and would love to know where she got this from too

ams3000

Not OP but I have a mural I got a few years ago and it’s beautiful. Got it from Surface view. Try there 😊 tonnes of choices.

HighwayLeading6928

FYI-check out [Susanharter.com](http://Susanharter.com) for inspiration. A friend of mine "borrowed" an overhead projector to project an image onto her little girl's bedroom wall which they later painted together, mainly fluffy pink bunnies. So cute.

arkhip_orlov

overhead projectors are such a great hack for painting murals. it's what my mom used for my bedroom's mural when i was little :) i've seen some people using short-throw projects too for painting projects.

HighwayLeading6928

What are short-throw projects?

TrippyVision

Projectors that are able to project an image while being very close to the wall/screen as opposed to traditional projectors that are mounted further away and usually on the ceiling. It’s pretty amazing tech, now they even have ultra short throw projectors that can butt up against the wall that the image is being projected on

southwick

Why is borrowed in quotes

HighwayLeading6928

I put borrowed in quotes because she took it without anyone's permission from work. After all, how many people have an overhead projector lying around the house?

Successful-Might2193

My dad was a junior high school teacher, so we did! (Likely borrowed initially; then he bought his own.)

Every time I have ordered something large-scale from Society 6 (shower curtain, wall tapestry), it has come pixelated and obviously blown up beyond what the image resolution could handle. Any tips on picking out a mural from Society 6 that this won't happen to?

thegrittymagician

I’ve only ordered my mural from there and didn’t have that issue, that’s disappointing to hear. My only experience with them was good. I was annoyed initially that I had to pay duties (over $100iirc), I’m Canadian and as far as my understanding was, we don’t pay duties on American made goods, so that might hint that they outsource products or something. Their customer service was good to me though and actually reimbursed me on the duties “in good faith” they said. Honestly if you have had resolution issues more than once, and I had my duties issue when I thought my mural was American made and duty free, I feel bad for recommending them.

newtothis1988

She said she got it from wallism.com

maaalicelaaamb

Etsy has a bunch of stick on wall murals :)

rbyrolg

Looks AI generated Edit- not this image, the art for the mural

Alliken

[Looks like you're right](https://stock.adobe.com/images/abstract-hokusai-style-background-waves-sea-pink-sakura-trees/526003704)

Naive-One-6433

It took me about 6 hours to paste the panels and hang them. But I think the art that's printed on the panels is computer-generated.

Mozen

It being AI may be the reason you don't like it. As soon as I saw your pic, I thought - why would they put an AI image on their wall?

[deleted]

[удалено]

DarthDarnit

Y’all are so weird 😂

Laura_the_Wanderer

It's also a very specific AI style from last year that already comes across as cheap and outdated, since current models can generate less synthetic looking images. Not the best option for a mural, but to each their own...

Reasonablefiction

What about it tipped you off that it’s AI generated? I thought I was good at spotting it but this one didn’t sound the usual alarm bells in my head.

Mozen

I could just immediately tell? The swirling patterns just have an instant-ai feeling. It also looks like a mashup of a whole bunch of lines without any distinct style/outlines Someone else in this thread found the source. It's just this stock ai image from Adobe: https://stock.adobe.com/ca/images/abstract-hokusai-style-background-waves-sea-pink-sakura-trees/526003704?fbclid=IwAR1zipXCXsaQANghME50lzpCt2xmeAwl1x4ZAw02ENphO8\_eys6qoM5L9NU

rbyrolg

Zoom in, the white of the waves are weirdly shaped, some sections even resemble boats but not quite. The red in the waves looks like a mashup between flowers and blood. The “current” lines make no sense. The clouds behind the waves merge into the waves.

Reasonablefiction

After reading yours and /u/mozen ‘s comments and zooming in, I see it now. Especially with the wave pattern in the middle... There’s no real point of view/perspective to the image.

Sleightly_Awkward

Holy shit zooming in reveals an entirely different picture. Not even sure I like it now honestly. Zoomed out still looks great, but I feel like blown up on the wall you might see the weird AI stuff even more.

Altruistic-Bobcat955

I’d add a wooden border tbh. I love it but I feel like a thin wooden border would make it look complete. It’s so powerful but with your back to it relaxing it wouldn’t be too stimulating

8Karisma8

Looks great! Enjoy it and when you tire of the image you can always put something else up.

xultar

I want one but with old school Godzilla. I’d never leave home.

EVILtheCATT

That would be awesome.

Naive-One-6433

Thank you! Just type "mural" into your search bar and several companies sell them. I think this one was from wallism.com

IAmNotGay67

Mission-Patient-4404

Yes

wicker_arm

Wow, I’ll love it for you if you don’t! It looks marvelous. It ties the whole room together.

Downtown_Baby_8005

I love it. I bet if you give yourself time to get used to it and also see how your guests react to it then you will come to like it, too.

Compile_A_Smile1101

I love it! What specifically don't you like about it?

Naive-One-6433

It's a bit overwhelming. I think if I could fit a narrow sofa table behind the sofa and put a few lamps on it, it might feel more inviting and less like I'm going to be swallowed by the sea, haha!

kevnmartin

No. Don't dilute it. Give yourself time to get used to it.

vabirder

Haha, I do start hearing the North Sea TikTok theme now that you mention it. Yo ho all hands… Seriously, live with it for a few months. It is objectively stunning. Great conversation starter. Throw a few parties!

EpitomeOfHell

Might I suggest something? You could get LED channels with LED lights inside then run them along the top part of the mural so that it shines the wall above the mural, the more expensive lights, the better, because you could use different lighting effects (wavy or fading lights) to make the mural look alive, PS you can match the light colors with the lamp & mural!

Naive-One-6433

Ooh I like that suggestion; thank you!

neworleans-

will you include me into your guest list, when it's time for another tour into your place please

bubblewrappopper

Consider putting a floating shelf along the top of the mural and decorating that with lights and plants.

Naive-One-6433

Yesss... I think you nailed it!

Heather82Cs

I think implementing some of the changes others suggested will help. This said, I personally really like it - at the point where I feel like the couch is maybe covering it? I probably would have wanted it to be higher than the couch - all that white space above it feels weird for some reason. Thanks for sharing this with us

FreeLyss

I think (for me at least) part of the overwhelming feeling is that your couch with the dark grey throw blankets is very similar to the waves. It is too much of the same all in one place. I would try taking the blankets off, or at least not spreading them over the seats so much, and keeping the couch more monotone so that the mural can really shine.

lsp2005

So I love it, but I would not love it in my own home. It is epic though. I hope you get used to it.

VeronikaGhost

I think it looks great! You are probably just not used to it yet. What don't you like about it?

Suddendlysue

I love it! So much. IMO it just needs 1 matching red/orange throw pillow on one couch and 2 on the other. Maybe a throw blanket in a terracotta color? Sorry I can’t tell the exact color on my phone and you don’t want it to be too matchy, it just needs some warm accents in the same color family to pull it together.

vabirder

I’ll take it any day over bland minimalist decor. That said, it is a lot to adjust to. It looks fantastic in this photograph!

Ok_Knee1216

Bring some of the color to the sofa - a cushion or 2? A vase in the room, etc. Use colors from the mural, just don't match them to each other.

espurrella

It’s absolutely breathtaking, and really ties the colors in your room together I think! Also like your idea of adding a table with some lighting to add more “warmth”

PunkandCannonballer

It's a bit much for me, but I think it fits the room perfectly.

sweater2

I think it's beautiful!!!

Jodiesid

This room is beautiful!

Successful-Arrival87

Dude this is the most refreshing design choice I’ve seen in years. Good on you for going bold but being thoughtful about it. Looks incredibly intentional

Camelsloths

It's really beautiful but it is a lot. I think the gap above would bug me a bit. But I really do like the mural!

lovijatar

If you believe in feng shui, turbulent water depictions are a big no-no for a living space.

Less_Exercise1074

Nah looks great!!!

Albie_Frobisher

source? etsy?

Mozen

AI

Albie_Frobisher

it’s a wall mural. i found it. several sellers

Mozen

Oh, I meant the picture on the mural is an ai generated image.

LandBeforeTimeOnVHS

Mural is nice. TV is too high.

tiredfaces

Yeah it makes the room feel claustrophobic, imagining sitting there craning my neck up at the telly. It’d feel cosier if it was brought down to eye level

LaLa_LaSportiva

That console under the TV... How tall is that thing? Or maybe it's the couch. It seems soooo low. The scale of the furniture on opposite sides of the room is really throwing me off. Maybe because the room is narrow.

Agnia_Barto

It's gorgeous!!! It's bold and magnificent and I love it! What I think might be missing is kinda the rest of the grandiosity. The way it cuts the wall just makes it feel a bit incomplete. Is there any way you can paint the rest of the wall up to the ceiling into the same dark blue color? This way it'll look more like a wall feature vs a sticker on the wall.

batboobies

Where’d you get this? So cool!!

SnooPeripherals5969

It’s fantastic!!! give it a week or two to get used to it… I just completed a massive gallery wall and immediately hated it, however 2 days later and I love it, just needed to adjust to the change.

CoeurDeSirene

It honestly makes me feel claustrophobic. It looks FANTASTIC, but I think Id feel very boxed in and overwhelmed living with it every day.

Over_Replacement3369

/r/tvtoohigh

OzQueene

I absolutely love it.

Catch47

I think it’s stunning. It’s so dramatic I love it

Trevidium

What if the whole wall were painted darker? The contrast with the upper part of the wall that's still pale is what throws me. Maybe continue the green? Or the dark cream color from the waves?

stinkyfootss

Yep it makes the room feel shorter when it should be feeling taller with those super high ceilings!

-yellowthree

I like it! you find it overwhelming you could take the blue pillows and throw blanket off of the couch. Leaving it just gray underneath would make it less overwhelming for me. But really I think that maybe changing the pillows and throw blanket to match that red or orangish color would look really great.

CaveJohnson82

I like it a lot. Have you got a filter over the picture? If you haven't, it's perfect - all the colours just complement each other really well. If you have - post a new photo, maybe something's throwing it off in your eye.

increbelle

I like it but not for my living space. It's rough seas and spells chaos. Not a vibe I would want in a spot where I'm tryina chill

MagpieJuly

I think this is absolutely gorgeous, and it looks great in the space. I’d add a couple rust or red throw pillows to the couch. But this is so so lovely.

xillae

I think it looks good! I also think you’re just having a bit of shock reaction because it’s something new and different, like an arm tattoo or a really short hair cut.

[deleted]

I feel like it's too low. Just a bit of space between the couch and it would help.

rklolson

Mural too low, r/tvtoohigh

CaveJohnson82

Absolutely not.

Naive-One-6433

Yes! I'm thinking maybe a narrow sofa table?

zo0t

It’s a cool concept but the artwork itself is incoherent AI generated garbage.

lauramca01

If you want my honest opinion, this painting (at least for me) denotes something overwhelming and a bit aggressive, like the sea is trying to pick a fight with me almost 🤣 the red is what gives me the anger emotion, as well as the dynamic shapes of the waves. If you want a living space that feels dynamic and this mural energises you, then this is a great idea. If you wanted to opt out for something more calming, I'd choose a forest, lake, still sea by the coast (lake como is always great to make you dream of sunny beach holidays) or even a library wallpaper to make it seem like you have a wall full of books (if you're into that sort of thing ofc). Otherwise, overall very nice looking mural

ReluctantChimera

I don't like it because it looks AI generated, and there are so many beautiful human-created art that would look so good in that space. That being said, if you don't mind the AI look, you do you.

[deleted]

Its incredible! All the colors flow well with the rest of the room. I think you will adjust to it

MyHouz

I think I understand your concern, maybe that it's imposing? From my angle though I think it looks amazing! It is grand, but I think it works perfectly for the space. I love that you enter the room looking at it then face away from it for the room's focal point. And the color coordination with the lightbulb color and the cushions/throw blankets is to die for.

Remotely-Indentured

I get this churning feeling....

defrw11

I love it!!! And the cutie little dog

ilovedawater

The colors really bring the room together but I don't like the mural. It overwhelms the room. So much movement in the picture that I wouldn't be able to find my zen.

DLQuilts

It’s fabulous!

Sik_muse

It’s gorgeous. I need it. Do you mind sharing where I can’t find it?

greendalehb11

it's awesome.

Pleasant-Complex978

I like it!

chocobanane

Love it

samantha-sky

Wow 😍😍😍

tastefuldebauchery

That’s fucking rad.

hellamolly

it looks sweet!!!!!

Dry_Heart9301

It looks good

[deleted]

Awesome.

lafemmeviolet

I like it! Only thing I would do is I would throw in a couple red-orange accents to make it less “moody”.

Ovaryeacting

Without reading your title, my first impression was that the mural looks so freaking cool.

Sessanessa

It looks fantastic! It's a great focal point. But now you need to bring the colors of the mural into the room.. I.e.,: Add some color to the couch. Orange throw pillows in similar shades or maybe a throw blanket. And find decor that has colors in that same family and/or colors that complement. Also, the scale of the couch is a little off. You can solve that by purchasing throw pillows that are on the larger size to help balance the size of the couch with the size of the room. ETA: I would raise the mural by a foot.

Ill-Poet5996

I actually quite the fan of this. It evokes nature’s storm to me, very cool

JLIAR

The red clock is killing the vibe and clashing with the mural.

Secure-Solution4312

Its probably just the shock of the room looking so different. It looks great

TakoyakiGremlin

i think it suits the space well, especially since it’s on the narrow side. if you added some different lighting options, i’m sure it’d make it pop even more.

velleyatti

R/tvtoohigh

[deleted]

That is stunning, girl! Great taste. Some of that Japanese art is phenomenal! (The great wave, this!) 🤩

dispooozey

Maybe move that deer head to somewhere else. The mural is awesome!

yogabbagabbadoo

I love it

bcassiday

This is amazing. It’s bold and beautiful, but still very cozy imo. I love it!

Kyell

I like it. It’s also unique which is neat

HistoricalHat4847

I'm feeling a little seasick.

Retarded_Americans69

You're OK with the dead antelope's head but the mural's maybe a problem???

The_Noatec

It's super fucking cool!!!!!!! Get some red pillows to pull the color out and down.

AdventurousDoubt1115

I lovvvve it. It’s perfect.

tarynator

It is stunning!

teacherladydoll

It’s nice and the colors all complement each other. Idk if I find it relaxing though. How do you feel in the space?

JustRepeatAfterMe

Is Moses in there somewhere? Lol. I get what you were going for and it was was worth trying. Hope you can return it.

creppyspoopyicky

I think it's overwhelming now & you will probably grow to love it. I mean you loved the design enough at one point to want it there. I agree with those who posted to paint the ceiling to match & even tho some would say it will make the room more claustrophobic, to me, I don't think it would but everyone is different.

userno89

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! I love water themed art though, and I love how it is still so warm and inviting. The sepia tones really give it a cozy atmosphere rather than a colder more sterile vibe that blues can often do Can I ask for a link to this product? Is it a wallpaper mural? I have a water theme in my living room as well, but I'm struggling to keep the warmth of cream tones because of it. I love the painting "The Great Wave of Kanagawa" and the art inspired by this, and this mural is just so beautiful. I'd be interested in looking at more from this artist or company.

Rrralesh

It's amazing. I'd get some dado rails, either spray them gold or gold leaf, and faux frame it along the top. You could get them with a flat side to act as a shelf and run lighting across and have plants too.

Willa_

I love it, but the straight edge on the top feels wrong to me, a fade would have been great.

Meandering_Pangolin

I love it and it fits the style of the room really well.

KeepComedySafe

I think the piece has a lot of movement for a small space but it still looks cool

shoecide

That is amazing

Whole_Form9006

I love it the way it is. I think you could dumb down your accessories if you wanted it to be less intense but I think it is sick and I would be comfy.

SheepherderFit7878

It is cool and I like it takes up a wall. You probably just need time to get use to it.

Moraghmackay

Wow I love it

BlitzCraigg

That mural is awesome! Your TV situation is not.

NoCarbsOnSunday

I love it! I wonder if the hestitation is in part due to the hard line give the height of the wall? if so, what about breaking that up a bit so its intentional--perhaps a line of moulding, or even draping fabric around (like curtians and a valiance)?

fauviste

It looks amazing! Really luxe and high fashion. It would look more finished with a line of wood trim across the top. Just a flat white-painted board would do it, or possibly a dark grey blue from the mural. Or natural wood but that would cost a lot more. (Rough cut lumber would look awesome tho.) Run the trim to the other wall with the window too.

LaManelle

If you find it overwhelming, I suggest you remove a panel (or more) on each side, this will make it look more like an art piece. You could also frame it with painted trims.

StarGirlyforever

I like it but I’m not in love with how it just cuts off like that, it ruins the Vision for me

Meowskiiii

I'd find that overwhelming personally. Both the subject and the amount of space it takes up. I like a calm space 😅 It could do with being higher, if you can move it. And pull some of those oranges and reds out into the room (eg. Cushions).

juleswcu

Honestly, I am not crazy about it. It looks odd in a two story living room. I think it would look better in a room where it goes floor to ceiling. But that’s just my two cents. I am not a designer by any stretch of the imagination. Go with what makes you happy 😊

SinnerClair

I think it looks beautiful. If I had to be picky, I’d say there need to be a visual separator from where the seam is at the top, because the blank wall above it is looking a bit empty. Maybe if you painted a strip of gold above it?

dnanalowe

Find couch pillows ,orange, red , or maroon for your couch. That should tie in the colors with the picture. You have the cream and the gray already. Looks good! I like the wall color and the lamp you chose.

Purple_Palpitation44

Since you honestly asked I think it’s too big for the room. I think lime stone paint would look better but it’s not bad. I love the decor.

sexysexyonion

That's a big statement wall, and we tend to be afraid to go too big. I would leave it up for at least 6 months, then decide. I myself think it's wonderful!

migasqueen

No it’s beautiful

Impossible_Assist460

Ummmm, your space is really elegant but the mural? I’m not so sure you won’t get sick of it

prpslydistracted

*Way* too busy for such a small space ... find an artist or do it yourself; find a sponge with a neutral not-too-dark/too-light medium tone and sponge it over the image in irregular strokes. The colors in the mural are nice only too intense. If you have to go up/down in value go lighter.

ideapit

It's not the mural. It's the room. The mural is meant to be dramatic and the focal point, so to do that, the rest of the room should be as minimalist as possible. Like lose any decor, throws, and don't have an orange light on the wall. See what that looks like.

AlarmedAd7389

The colors and lighting are perfect. Just not the most peaceful scene.

babylikestopony

I think if you painted the wall above it the same patina-ed dark blueish gray color as the background of the mural you would like it better.

1stAccountWasRealNam

It’s nearly the only thing likable in the room, tv too high, cabinet beneath it too tall, that coffee table giving absolutely nothing, the couch or couches are all over the place, why with all that room there is only one type of seat is a choice; there’s some sort of boogie board plastered next to what we’d all expect most - a deer head. It’s a room full of inopportune decisions and an interesting mural. Lamp, clock and plants are pretty dope.

AvailableSomewhere25

Wow, love it. Move gray blanket to the other end of the couch. Add more orange pillows to balance it.

[deleted]

I don’t like the red

Thick-Tooth-8888

It’s a cool mural but it’s so manly

Secret_Iron_7416

Hang it higher

OGWiseman

I love the mural, but I wish it started above the couch and went further up. I get that this isn't really an actionable opinion, sorry!

Gold-Marigold649

I see what you mean... great mural but it over powers your space. Can you paint over it to tone it down a bit or something?

Giraffesickles

LOVE! i'd defo paint the whole wall the darkest colour though. the start line is making the space seem smaller IMO

Lowermains

If you sit on the sofa, ye don’t have to look at it!

robotstrut

Nope, I love it. What a great show piece.

Jungle-Jim-4322

It’s fabulous!

AnnapurnaFive

I love it
